Do You Approve All Comments?

Tee2072 · 08/08/2011 20:25

or have open commenting?

I do have comments screened, but only the first time you comment on my blog, so help catch SPAM.

If it's a legitimate comment, I approve it.

Even one that just came through about my son and was he ill so much because he wasn't breastfed. Hmm That one made me mad (how rude!) but I let it through.

So do you let all comments through, no matter what they say?

I do but then it's such a rarity I'm happy to let the weirdos eccentrics have a shot

I don't have an approval system for comments as I wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to comment. I have only deleted a couple of comments - mainly because of swearing or 'you're a posh stuck up bitch' type abuse. I don't mind really but I get a lot of GCSE and A Level History and Art History students reading my blog and wouldn't want their parents getting on my case about the language other commenters use!

(Before anyone asks - I have a very effective spam filter so only get a couple of spam comments out of thousands breaking through a month, which is easily dealt with.)

I have to approve all comments. Not that I get any malicious, chicken hating visitors. But I do occassionally get spam.

ha at malicious chicken hating comments.

I don't but I have noticed that I got more spam on Blogger than I do on WP (and I am getting more comments now than I used to).

I haven't had many odd comments, and would only delete if they were abusive or offensive.

I get a fair bit of spam, but the filter always picks that up.

I let everything through that the filter does. I don't think I've ever had to delete anything afterwards.

Hmmm... I have approval set up, as I like to get notifications when people comment. But I don't have word verification, so its easier for people to comment.

I don't actually get as many comments as I would like :) so at the moment its manageable. I can imagine those people that get hundreds of comments for every post won't have them set up for approval.

My spam filter catches some but not all, so the approval thing comes in handy, as I can just reject the comment instead of having it in there and having to manually delete it.

Yes, I do. My blog's meant to be a supportive place for parents, so I don't want them reading shit from people who are just commenting to stir things up. I have a comments policy, and I make it clear that I am delighted to post reasoned, sensible, respectful debate - I have no issue with people disagreeing with me. But I have had people be close to abusive before, and I just can't be bothered to engage with that, let alone share it with the world!

I don't allow anon comments if they're only anon to hide behind a nasty comment, personally. I'm happy to debate, but not with cowards!

I have even let Anon comments through although I usual comment back suggesting they actually leave a name next time. It cowardly, for sure.

I have open comments but a spam trap where you have to put in a code first. I also allow anonymous comments - I never take ofence at people who hide behind anonymity to insult me.
