Kyte's DS2 is here! - positive CS story

Due to various complications, I had to have a cs for ds2.

I'm more of a 'natural' type of mama, so I was feeling pretty nervous/anxious in the run-up to the op....but I needn't have worried.

I had a great surgeon and mw who tried to make the cs as nice an experience as possible:

We walked (well I hobbled) into the anesthetic room and were greeted by smiling faces. The team made sure that I felt at ease and explained what they were doing as they hooked me up to various monitors and as they did the spinal. They also took great care to move my legs at the same time etc (I had PGP) and so I felt I was in safe hands and by the time I was wheeled into the operating theatre I actually felt genuinely relaxed about the op and excited to see ds2. In fact I was so relaxed that the mw kept telling dh to reassure me because she thought I mustbe trying to hide my nervousness by grinning widely grin

As I was wheeled into theatre, I could hear my U2 album playing softly in the background (ds2 seems to like U2) and they had turned the lights low. Everyone was in a really upbeat yet relaxed mood and it was contagious.

They then put the screen up for the first cutting part, but lowered it just before ds2 was born. As his head appeared I didn't notice anyo of the blood etc, I was just staring at his bawling face as it emerged. Tehn they gave me immediate skin to skin contact, the screen wnet back up while they sewed me up and the mw helped ds2 to 'baby crawl' up my chest and self-latch so that he bf moments after being born in theatre (and covered him in a blanket). After a little while she took him to be checked over and then dh got to have a cuddle too. Then I was given him back and we were wheeled into post-op where ds2 had another cuddle and feed.

A truly wonderful experience and with great post-op care, we were able to go home 48 hours later. smile

Kyte I'm so happy that you had such a positive experience and are obviously still glowing from it smile. And envy that they let ds2 do the breast crawl. How special.

Thanks for sharing that - it sounded calm and lovely - not something I would have associated with CS. And congratulations!

Aaaaw Kyte that is really, really lovely, esp the bit where he got to crawl up your chest and self-latch. I've always wondered if that actually happened in real life!

Lovely story, congratulations. You've just described exactly how I wished ds's section had been (stupidly I forgot to ask for skin to skin or have the screen down!)
