DS (my second baby) arrived on Sunday in a very relaxed and easy homebirth. Niggly ctx started at 4am, but they weren;t enough to call out a midwife until 2pm. Until then i ate, napped and stayed in bed reading.

I was very lucky as the midwife on call was one who had done all my antenatal appts, and someone i trust and like very much. She popped over for an hour or so, chatted away to me and decided to head home for a quick dinner to await my next phone call. Back to bed for a rest until 4pm, wheh i decided to get on my gym ball as ctx were still only every 10-15 mins, and sore but OK. Within about 5 mins they were one after another with only a few minutes between them, so i was very relieved to have my gas and air set up. DH phoned MW and said things were hotting up but not to worry as i was coping. (I was less convinced!)

Managed to nibble on tiny bits of pizza in between huge ctx, and at 5.15pm MW was back and was pleased to find i was 8cm dilated. Second MW was on her way by now. Pain by this point would have been unbearable, but for the support of MW and knowing i was nearly there. Pushing stage only lasted about 20 minutes, as i just wanted it over.

He arrived at 6.50pm. I was lucky to get away with no grazes and a little 2nd degree tear, as he was 10lb2oz, and after the head a little fist came out and punched the air much to the MW's amusement! My waters were intact until the second before he was born, and MW explained afterwards she'd burst them to get him out quickly as she was worried about meconium in the waters. It was all so calm and i didn't realise any of this- he was absolutely fine once he was out.

Apparently labour ward was chaotic that evening and delivery suite was full, which makes me even more relieved to have been in my living room with 2 lovely MWs looking after me. All in all I couldn't really have asked for a better experience. DH was pleased that he didn't have to watch me suffer too much, as it was all very controlled and calm- he knew i was in safe hands and could sit back and observe quietly. We're all very happy.smile
