By wheresmyfroggy on Sun 20-Jul-08 23:29:03 First off, for those who don't know I am Hatrick's DH
Just a quick one to say that all the mooching and whinging has finally ended for us as we were joined by Cassius at 5:18 this afternoon. Weighing in at a respectable 8lbs 10oz.
We went from wonderful organic home birth plan to OMG! 3 midwives, 2 obstiatricians and 1 paediatrician in a delivery suite at East Surrey hospital, but Hatrick and little Cassius are in good health and everything was fine thanks to the wonderful team at the hospital.
Hatrick will fill you in on all the details in good time.
Good luck to all those still waiting and congratulations to any that have arrived since this morning!
My goodness- do you have about 7 kids now? Every time I come back from a mumsnet break you two are delivering another little hatfrog! What wonderful news. Many congratulations.
Thank you for all the lovely responses, Hatrick and Cassius are home now and all is well.
For those of you who were expecting us to announce a baby called Nico, I came in with a last minute (well last two weeks really) suggestion of Cassius and it just seemed to fit when he was born.
Ianismum - Cassius is mine and DD3's favourite song at the mo and is where the inspiration came from.
Woke up on Sunday to little but fairly obvious contractions so had a bath and tidied the kitchen etc to try and encourage them to step up. The girls and dh got up and we had breakfast nd I opened my cards and presents- all the time trying to downplay the contractions
At about 11 we called the del suite to ask for the community midwife to be sent, she called back to say she would be 40 mins and hed lots of gas and air for me. Lovely. This is where it started to turn ..........
40 mins later and contractions about 3 to 5 apart no midwives yet. Then the phone rang, it was the mw to say there was not another mw available to partner her so my homebirth was not possible
So was transferred by ambulance, lots of lovely gas and air and a very lovely paramedic. Arrived at East Surrey and they had prepared the new midwife led unit for me, they were so apologetic that I had had to go in. They were keen to break my waters but I refused, ds's head was still high and water was in front but I had a horrid feeling about his position so wanted to give him time. Had lovely rest of labour, chilled, contractions fine [midwife said she had never seen anyone smile through contractions before ] dh and I actually had a really nice couple of hours - very odd.
Then my waters broke and here is where it got petrifying, there was mec in the water so the midwives were concerned, checked me and I was fully dilated but his head was not feeling right. I was transferred to del suite where it became apparant that he was distressed [hr was dipping alot] so he needed to get out BUT his head was presenting oddly so I had to not push for four contractions whilst an obst repositioned him externally and internally. I was pertrified and it was agony, dh was amazing.
After ten mins I was allowed to push and a ventouse was used- but kept popping off so was abandoned and I had to push like mad whilst 7 people cheered me on. At last he appeared and i had a lovely cuddle, dh sobbed and the obst delivered the placenta. Ds was whisked off by a paed and checked and was fine.
Anyway he was given back to us and we hada proper look- he was in no way a Nico, so dh suggested Cassius and it suited him to a tee.
Anyway he is rather sweet [some pics on profile] the girls love him and dd3 cannot leave him alone.
