i have been saying for ages that im going on a diet, well actually i kind of just plan on eating less/healthier choices and exercising more. i have no clothes that look nice on me anymore and i detest seeing myself in photos.
the time is now! i am now at my biggest i have ever been and im hoping that if i feel i have to check in every week it may give me more motivation,
i know roughly what i weigh but will weigh my self tomorrow morning, i would like to lose around 4 stone (if i achieved this i would still be overweight but it is what i weighed when i met dp)
so... what is your story? how much weight would you like to lose? why?
I have been low carbing since 7 Jan and lost 16 lbs.
Tis the best diet ever and have weighed in every week on MN for support.
It goes agains all weightwatcher rules though.
I would like to be 11 stone so have about 1.5 stone to go.

I have a very small bridesmaid dress to fit in to make my poor pregnant SIL very happy so I need to lose about 1 1/2 stone. For my own happiness a bit more would be nice but as long as I get in the dress then it's all good!!

im easing myself in gently, for breakfast i had cereal, had some left over roast chicken and salad for lunch, also had strawberries and a pear. im having pasta this evening but i will have a smaller portion than i would normally have. i think portion size is a big problem for me.
ive walked a fair bit at work today and plan on taking the dog a hour long walk this evening aswell.

I have lost exactly that amount before but struggled with depression last year and gave up exercise and ate rubbish and before I knew it I am back here! Terrible week, humiliating trip to Alton Towers and then had to give up a snowboarding course yesterday due to generally being (and feeling) fat and unfit...
So moving on and being positive - plan is healthy eating using myfitnesspal, gradual return to running and spinning and 30 day shred. Portion size is my main problem, I like cooking and I like healthy food but just generally eat way too much.
Am very interested in low carbing convert, what are your general meals convert? Are you just going for general healthy eating loho?
Breakfast would be eggs and bacon and mushrooms cooked in butter
Too full for lunch so might have some celery and cheese
Dinner tonight is tuna fried in butter served with broccoli and anchovies and celeriac mash made with butter and cream.
Tis such a lovely way to eat!!
No carbs or sugar and once you have gone through the first 2 weeks it is simple!

Yes anchovies just going for healthy eating and doing more exercise to start with, if I struggle I may think about a more structured diet to give me a kick start!

Wedding is in 4 months. SIL ordered dresses but they've come and seem to be loads smaller than they should be, all three bridesmaids can't fit in them. She's very upset and is unexpectedly pg, due 6 weeks before wedding so I have promised I will get in the fucking dress!
Hi Anchovies, low carbing is good for me because I'm quite a fussy eater and I've got the willpower of a gnat.
Breakfast is usually scrambled eggs and sausages and bacon, lunch some cheese and ham/salami/cold chicken, tea, tonight I'm cooking chicken breast with parma ham and mushrooms in a creamy cheesy garlic sauce.
The thing I'mreally struggling with is alcohol. I like a drink and would generally have at least one drink maybe 5 nights a week and quite a few more on one of those nights. I've got some vodka and diet pop but it's just not the same. I really really want
5 a bottle of bulmers tonight.
Can I join too? I'm doing 5:2, tried to up my exercise but managed to break a bone in my foot last week, so that's not really a help! I will weigh when I go upstairs to bath DS!

I find it really hard to stick to something, tried cycling/zumba/pilates etc but there always seems to a reason (excuse) not to carry on.
Just now the only exercise I'm doing is walking, DD has persuaded me to join her horse riding next week in the holidays, not been on a horse for years so I'm hoping it will come flooding back! Really looking forward to it but Its not something I will be able to afford to do every week though.
I'm off to read up on 5:2, I've heard a lot of positive stories about it but not sure what its all about!
I'm also trying to be positive anchovies, its too easy for me to fall into the negative way of thinking and start binging on crap!

OMFG. Have just weighed myself for the first time in a year (since DS was born). 11 stone, 8 lbs!!! I am officially a fat fecker - I'm only 5ft 3!! Guess that means I need to lose at least 2 stone I've only done 1 fast day so far, but I did find it ok. I'm alright not eating if I'm busy at work.

Need to lose about 5 stone in total but am aiming for 2 stone by August. I was doing really well about 18 months ago, gym 3 times a week, really toning up
under the flab, but then had an emotional blip and returned to comfort eating. Been through some major life changes and go some counselling, now I'm ready to tackle my body!
Like the 5:2 idea, but don't know how practical it would be in family life. My 4yo is a faddy eater, so "Mummy is not eating today" is not ideal for role-modelling! I've had some success with low GI diets before, so will try a Low GI, high protein menu.

I weighed myself yesterday and was shocked. 14st 1lb. That's almost 2 stone heavier than I was a year ago after having my DD!

I ate OK today - but had roast beef and potato gratin left over from yesterday.
I am going to try and low carb - cutting out bread / potatoes / pasta. I'll also try and stop my evening snacks /sweeties / crisps
wine after DD has gone to bed.
I would love to lose 4 stone My sister is getting married in 8 months and I don't want to feel like a beached whale.

The girls/women/followers are all lovely, supportive, friendly etc and there's a great recipe thread.
No matter how you decide to attack your weight loss, I suggest you get Dr John Briffa's book - Escape the Diet Trap. It's £9 in WHSmith and as cheap as £3 on eBay or almost free from the library of course. SO so so worth it - a very interesting read.
Low carbing I'm down 20lb/9kg in 9 weeks and I'm doing it as a vegetarian <no eggs>. It's great because you never have to be hungry.
Exercise - I 'shift my bum' most days. I walk fast enough to be a little short of breath, but not out of breath - so I could talk, but not sing (thank god I can hear you say!) 30 mins pretty much every day -though I didn't walk at all yesterday and only about 10 mins today.
Was pleased last night that I didn't give in and have a drink but feeling a bit fed up today. We live in a pub so our socialising is going downstairs for a drink and I'm really missing it. I have been comfort eating to make myself feel better too which is bad, I have stuck to the low carb foods but I just eat for something to do. This should be so easy, just don't put the fucking food in your mouth!!! It's not easy though. Sorry, need to snap out of my grumpiness
Ok, today is another day! Not feeling hungry at all yet so might tidy up a bit and go on the cross trainer before I have some breakfast.

WhyI are you just cutting out bread/pasta etc of are you going for full low carb? I find the evenings tough too, DH works late a lot and I'm sitting in front of he tv by myself picking at junk food!

I've been trying to stick to 3 meals a day and 30mins exercise. I've either been walking or doing a dvd.
Its been working well but I've had some very bad nights recently due to non sleeping baby, and am veryb sleep deprived. This has led me to no exercise since Friday and stuffing my face. I'm really annoyed with myself and need to get back on track.
I need to lose 3 stones but will be happy with 2 at the moment.
I can't bear the thought of being this fat in the summer. I want to be able to wear summery clothes and feel ok.
I've always avoided going out and turn down invites sometimes because I feel like I look shit in everything I wear. I don't want to live like this anymore.
Well I had porridge this morning for breakfast, had a buffet lunch at work- which resulted in Me felling sick because I ate way more than I should have! We were having a wee party though so it doesn't happen often! I'm not planning on eating anything tonight because I'm honestly not hungry!
But I done well to decline the creme egg brownie someone made and brought in! It looked bloody brilliant aswell!
I'd also like to be able to buy some nice summer things this year, I hate going into shops and trying stuff on, some days I can't seem to find anything that fits me or flatters me. (Presuming of course we are going to get a summer and it stops snowing!)
Well I had a pretty rubblish day... had an early appt at the hospital with DD that turned into a 4 hour marathon - and I'd had nothing for breakfast and nothing with me - DP went to get me something and came back with a packet of digestive biscuts! so I ate a couple
Had to go to work straight after so have just had a cereal bar, fruit and juice (I was late - so no break and can't get away to get anything proper!)

That kept me full til 12 and then I had moussaka that dh had made. Really delicious.

Also, we're all still doing it, it's just the gaps between the Bootcamps gives BIWI a bit of time to remember she has a life outside of MN , but if you have any questions, they will get answered by someone.
It is much harder to low-carb as a vegetarian <no eggs>, especially one who follows Briffa (who doesn't approve of soy/quorn products - for good reasons - so although I don't avoid them totally, I try not to eat too much of them). I'm not sure if dairy is slowing down my progress or not (it does for some but not for others), but I'm losing weight and if I had to give up dairy (again/during this) as well I'd probably stop low carbing & would stop losing weight - therefore, dairy is helping me lose weight
Breakfast - whole avocado, 25g of cheese & 25g of roasted seeds (I don't weigh it out anymore, I know what it 'looks' like)
Lunch - tomato, mozarella, basil, rocket, radish, pepper with olive oil & black pepper.
Dinner - Bubble & Squeak - the low carb way Intentional Left Overs - cauli, leeks, brocolli, bok choy, brocolli stems (the hard stem part sliced and fried - YUM) & mushrooms (fried then added). YUM. As good, if not better than 'normal' B&S.
Certainly not feeling hungry or deprived and still losing weight - what's not to love!

I've managed not to have anything since my massive lunch so I don't feel so bad for over indulging.

Hi, can I join? I'm on day 11 of the Easyloss Virtual Gastric Band iphone app. I lost 8lb in the first week, have loads to lose as currently 17 stone and also just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so the time is now really. I'm doing low-GI and much smaller portions. Felt great yesterday when I could wear my jeans again but today I just feel pissed off and cross. Especially wanting to scoff a big easter egg but really won't as my dad died from diabetes complications at 59 and didn't get to meet his grandchildren. I can't allow that to happen to me but feel a bit down as this will have to be a change in my eating habits for the rest of my life. . Sorry, having a shit day, hopefully checking in here will give me the encouragement I need.

Morning all. I have been very very bad. <hangs head in shame> DH has been working loads lately so took me and the DCs out for tea last night to an oriental buffet type place. I caved. The little tiny creme brûlées were to hard to resist
and the chocolate fountain Then we went downstairs to do the quiz and I had lots a bit to drink. I woke up this morning with such a bad headache which I think was partly down to the sugar I had.
However normally I would think, well fuck it, I might as well have a bacon sandwich but I haven't and am back low carbing. I think I need to realise I can have a slip up but as long as I don't then give up its not the end of the world.
Chipping will nip over to the thread and wait for the next bootcamp, am off to work now so when I've got a bit more time.

Convert, I think a buffet type place must be the ultimate challenge. I think you've done great by not giving up, it's got to happen sometimes. We're off on holiday to Devon next week and I think it wil be tough to avoid treats all week.
I was good this morning - made a breakfast fritatta type thing It was OK (I don't really like eggs!) DP loved it! But I am hungry again and didnt bring anything to work with me - Is there anything I can buy handily for lunch In Boots / tesco / M&S?
Try cold meat and cheese or prawn mayo sandwich filler stuff.
Thankyou - I had some chicken pieces and some bagged salad from M&S. Cannot afford to do that every day though so will have to get more organised.

I've had a really busy night, problems with the car and getting DSS organised for a weekend away so not had time to think about food too much!

I find it easier during the week to be "good" because there aren't as many opportunities to eat crap!

I lost about 9 kilos last year with BIWI's low carb bootcamp, then fell off the wagon, and have put it all back on. I am currently 96kg - I have no idea what that is in stones.
I was doing a media course today, and did a fantastic TV interview, but when it was played back, all I could see was my massive round face .
So anyway, I have been feeling quite low recently about having put on so much weight - I have had my thyroid tested, and it is fine apparently, so I can't keep hanging around hoping for some miracle diagnosis - I just need to lose the weight. I don't know if anyone else has the constant critical voice every time you pass a mirror, but if someone else spoke to me the way my inner voice does, I would cut them out of my life in an instant. I think seeing myself on TV today has spurred me into action to shift the weight, again.
So now that I have bared my heart, my plan is to go back on the Harcombe diet, which is basically lowish carb with lots of veggies. I think I need to stick rigidly to no wheat / alcohol / caffeine / sugar. I already cycle (sort of) once a week and do pilates - but I think I need to add an extra 2 sessions of exercise - maybe a walk and an hour of DanceStars?
I will feel very virtuous eschewing Easter Eggs this weekend.

Loho, you sounds really positive, have you got the car sorted? I do find weekends harder, mainly because DH is at work for most of it so in the evenings I usually have an drink or two and something nice to eat.

Hi Beryl love your name! I have a secret hope that my thyroid is underactive my Mom's is so I live in hope. I do have that constant voice. When I get undressed at night I can see in the full length mirror and I just think I look so fucking disgusting. I think photos of yourself, or like you being on film make you realise how you really look.
I haven't heard of the Harcombe diet, what kinds of food do you eat?
The Harcombe diet
You really need to read the book to fully get the theory, but to summarise, she reckons that a lot of people suffer from a combination of hypoglycaemia, candida overgrowth, and food intolerances. These result in feeling rotten, and having massive food cravings.
She has 3 basic rules, although there are also other nuances:
1. Don't mix carbs and fats (which includes protein). In practice I don't do any carbs such as porridge or brown rice, but she allows it.
2. Don't eat processed foods
3. Don't eat the foods that feed the conditions (which in my case is wheat, and most probably diary).
In effect, this means that I do a healthy low carb diet, with no wheat, alcohol, sugar and caffeine. She suggests no mushrooms too.
Tonight I had a pork chop served on a bed of raw fennel with a cream sauce. Breakfast was spinach and egg, and ham salad for lunch.
No the car isnt sorted yet but its still drivable, going to get my dad to sort it tomorrow night! Its getting quite old and I'm seeing an increase in the number of things going wrong with it! Its never let me down yet though! (Well apart from the million times I've forgot to turn the lights off and the battery goes flat or when I run out of petrol- actually its a wonder it still runs!)
Oopsy I had a chinese takeaway for my tea! It was DP's idea, its just the two of us tonight, which NEVER happens so thought we would treat ourselves. I don't even feel bad about it- it was really good!!! I will regret having it tomorrow

I weighed myself today... I've been very strict no carbing for 3 days - and wanted to see if it made a dent... It did - I weighed 13st 7lbs. That's down from 14st 1lb on Sunday night! 8lbs?!

PIL have the kids tonight and tomorrow so have made a deal with myself, if I have a few drinks tonight then I will have no easter eggs. Bloody lovely PIL bought me a massive galaxy one. I've been really good with food and I'm finding I'm just not that hungry most of the time. Alcohol is my only problem.
We were with friends last night and they and DH were all drinking lots, I did have a couple of vodkas but really resented not joining in properly with them. Maybe I should move out of the pub

Alcohol is my vice, and I think it is one of the main reasons why I struggle with my weight, so it helps me to cut it out. Having said that, we had friends round for dinner last night, and I had some cava, but I am back on the straight and narrow today.
How did everyone do over the weekend? Are we all ready for weigh on day? I'm 10st10lbs. So another 3lbs off this week even though I've been cheating. I'm going to have a full week with no being bad and see how much I can lose if I really try!!

I have not been very good and I'm ashamed to say I only lost a measly 1lb haha, I really am going to be better this week though, saying that I don't drink and I only had a wee bit of DD's easter egg which makes me think again I need to cut down on portion size, I'm also mad for fruit juice and drink tonnes of it since I cut down on fizzy diet juice, I will limit myself to a wee glass with my breakfast.

Good news that you lost Loho, fruit juice is really bad, some contain as much sugar as full fat coke. I bet next week will go really well if you cut that down.
I'm still not feeling at all tempted by chocolate or anything so really happy about that. I did 20 mins on the cross trainer this morning, and 20 sit ups but the sit ups nearly killed me!

I love Easter Eggs... I've been a bad tempered twat all weekend because I really really wanted one (I'm not really a chocoholic but I am an Easter Eggoholic!) and I have my period - really really not a good combination, but despite MN, the TV, the radio and everyone else banging on about hot cross buns and easter eggs, I've avoided them (I need a gold star please). If Angie Greaves mentions easter eggs once more I'm going to have to reach into the radio and slap her silly!

Hello Can I join? Have tried a few threads in the past which I've failed to stick to...but now I'm determind!!! Weighed myself this morning so start weight is 63.5kg (10st) - I'm 5ft4.
Have 3 dc under 5 and I'm working 3/4 days a week plus studying with OU 16 hrs a wk...so time is scarce!
Going to try the low carb route but will allow oats and brown rice at first and see how I get on. I've just downloaded 30 day shred on itunes so will attempt that later hopefully!!

I have just bought the John Briffa book - its massive will take me a while to get through it!
I am still sticking to my low carb. DP is now trying it too - but he misses his massive bowl of porridge in the morning... says he feels hungry all day without it.
Briff is one of those things it is easy to dip in and out of. Enjoy.

Weight has crept up since December last year, am off on holiday the middle of May. Have put on 10lbs I used to always be 10st, am 5'8", although clothes do still fit, I tried on my bikini,and I look like I'm made of cottage cheese.

Struggling a bit with the low carb - going to stick with it and just hope I get better at avoiding the chococolate come mid-afternoon!!
Just did day 1 of 30DS - have had a high protein muesli for breakfast and going to have an omellete for lunch and bbq for dinner so will just eat the salad and protein.
chipping we are always tight for time in the morning. I work shifts so DP often has to get DD up ready, fed and out for 8. He usually just grabs what's in the fridge - cooked ham / cheese etc. He loves the cooked breakfast - but doesn't have time for it each morning (and bacon / sausages every day is not ideal) I will see if he can make himself some boiled eggs or something while he is getting Dd ready.
My weight loss has predictably slowed a lot this week. I've lost 1lb. But I'm sticking to low carb. Next week I am going to do more exercise.
I've a weekend away with friends in May and want to be noticeably slimmer by then!
Thanks Beryl I am steering clear of bread, which is a shame as DH makes ours and we have some amazing bakeries down here. I know it really affects my weight.
We are going up to London for the day tomorrow to do the Museums, I'm just worried all will go wrong. Luckily the restaurant in the science museum is pretty good. Managed to convince DH we don't need to go to Chinatown, refusing crispy duck and pancakes would be nigh on impossible,suppose I just have to think of my saggy, pale, bod in a bikini!

far too often most days Some of the restaurants in the museums are worth going to London for I think it was the V&A (though could be wrong) where we had a lovely lunch! Still, most of them should do a good protein salad if nothing else. The Duck would be fine, just without the pancakes.
Making the thing with low carb is that it's a bit 'all or nothing' having muesli for breakfast means you wont be low enough in carbs to get into the fat burning which is how low carb works
unfortunately. I hope you get time to read the Bootcamp threads and maybe you would even consider joining us on the one that's starting soon? (the 'guidelines' are on a spreadsheet if you want a 'cheat sheet' on how to low carb with good results?!). Avoiding chocolate once you have got into the fat burning stage is really easy - honest. I have been whining about wanting Easter Eggs as I love them, but that's only Easter Eggs because it's Easter not chocolate per se, if you get what I mean. On the whole, low carbing is easy and rewarding and if you eat meat - very easy.
WIRL <I like that - WIRL, great NN> Would DH eat boiled eggs cold? If he would he could do them the day before. I believe a couple of those and maybe some greek yogurt (total or lidl) would keep him going. (I say believe as I don't eat eggs, but it seems to work for lots of others).

It's starting on the 29th But there are a gazillion 'back threads' you can read and a current thread where we are all chatting. Not sure if I linked to it earlier or not, but it's HERE You definitely don't want to be doing half and half or you'll end up putting on weight
I def. don't want that happening!!! Ok so my plan now is 30ds with balanced eating trying to keep calories down with mfp...whilst I read up on the low carb threads. And then can start bootcamp on the 29th hopefully well prepared! What sort of results am I likely to get? I have until 29th June to lose a stone (maybe 1 and half stone) and get toned so not too rushed. Thank you
Weight this morning is 9st 12lb very pleased with a 2lb weight loss this week - particularly as I've struggled a lot with motivation. This will surely motivate me for the rest of the week

Hi everyone, not been on for a while as been quite busy in RL.
Well I've put on the 1lb I lost last week which I feel really shit about, I thought I had done really well this week, done loads of exercise and been pretty good with eating.
When I was at the gp recently she asked if I'd like to see "the lifestyle advisor" I said I would try myself first but as I clearly can't lose weight to save myself I'm now thinking I might go back and ask if I can meet with her/him.
I've no idea what to expect though
When I lost weight previously (a few years ago now!) I done it by keeping a diary and counting every last calorie- I became totally obsessed with calories and food and its not a path I want to go down again as my dd is 9 and I'd hate for her to pick up on my food hang ups.

loho try not to worry too much - I've experienced static weight and even gaining a lb when doing a lot of exercise all of a sudden - if you stick with it you will prob start to see the weight drop off in the next week or so. Maybe you can tell us what you've been eating and you can get some pointers? Also I think the lifestyle advisor would be great to see

Have been really good today - break: high protein muesli, lunch: lots of salad with tin of tuna and olive oil, snack: slice of cheese, dinner: lamb, carrot and garlic casserole with roasted squash...very full now!
Loho I keep a food and exercise diary (with daily weight), but don't count calories. It helps me to look back at times when I have lost weight really easily to see what I was doing / eating. It also helps if you stall or start to go the other way - it can help identify what the cause may be.
Have you had a look at any of the bootcamp threads? I find it works for me, but it's a sort of all or nothing way of eating - you can't really have porridge in the morning, or pasta.
Am I the only one here?
I was about another kilo down, but I have been up a kilo, down a kilo over the last week or so.
