Is it possible?
Oh help how do I do it?!
By my calculations you could lose 54 lbs by August,
Aim for 2lb a week, eat strictly 1200-1500 calories a day. Do more exercise- take every opportunity to move about- every little helps.
Good luck! I might join you in this, but I'm going for 20lbs by 24th march first
I need a buddy or ten so please do join me
Right 1st day of shred tomorrow. That should be hell fun.
all right. I will be your buddy. how did the shred go? today, I am starting on trying to get back to normal healthy food and healthy eating and smaller portion sizes. And a walk at lunchtime. I would like to loose 37-38 pounds by summer so the same weight loss level. My interim goal is 22 lbs by end March.
Looks like we're all in a similar boat then.
I went to bed hungry last night <miserable>
But on the scales this morning I had lost weight so that's a massive consolation!
why did you go do bed hungry? did you not eat enough? how about some hot water or herbal tea?
today's menu is porridge with raisins for breakfast, salad and a boiled egg for lunch. Maybe half a slice of rye bread for lunch if I really hungry. winter vegetable pie from bbcgoodfood for dinner to disguise my weight loss plans from DH. I will do my best to avoid eating anything else.
felicity sorry forgot to say - WELL DONE on having lost a bit this morning
Shall we have a weigh in on Fridays? Today I weigh 12.11
It's a fast day (I'm doing 5:2)
At my parents at mo having a cuppa with my mum then home to put baby down for snooze & I will shred!!
ok. 12 stone 8.4lb today. Had porridge, avoiding snacks so far.
Can I join you? Can't start until Monday because I am hosting/sharing a huuuuuge celebration weekend from 12pm today and I know there is no point beating myself up about it!
Daren't weigh myself but I know I am in the region of 40 - 45lb overweight and I am on a show-your-body-more-than-you-ever-thought-you-would holiday in August. With athletic friends.
ive just done the shred
well done only how was it?
I have done my 30 minutes walk.
why did you go do bed hungry? did you not eat enough? how about some hot water or herbal tea?
Ok yesterday I ate breakfast and lunch at work- so limited choice. I worked from 7.30am-4pm and then 6.45pm-11pm.... I ate-
2 slices of toast and marmite and a satsuma for breakfast,
for lunch, 1 tortilla wrap with a small ladle full of chicken mixed with onion and peppers and fajita spicy sauce, then a helping of salad- cucumber, tomato, coleslaw, beet root, and a banana.
Then for dinner I had a sandwich with low fat cheese, healthy living salad cream tomato and cucumber, a handful of grapes and a mouthful of super thin (waitrose variety) popcorn (a whole huge pack is only 100 calories and I literally had one mouthful). Then during my evening shift I had a green apple.
I drank water and about 4 cups of black tea throughout the day.
I think that is probably actually quite a lot, but it's less than I was eating last week iyswim so yes, I did feel hungry. And hot water doesn't stop me feeling hungry, but it's a nice idea...
12.11 and you want to loose over 50lbs OP? How tall are you?
fair enough felicity I am feeling a bit hungry too today although I am sure I have eaten enough to keep me going. I will make the winter veg pie now and eat it slowly. I didn't manage not to snack at all. But I had an apple instead of my usual 3 digestives and a slice of cake. I am telling myself it will get easier as I get used to not being overstuffed.
Yes I think you are right, I reckon the first weeks the worst for hunger, but I find weeks two and three the worst for wanting to give up!
I'm 5ft 7
I ideally want to be 10 stone
The shred was ok but I've been to soft play with the children after school and now I'm home and I'm exhausted. I may have had a small bowl of chips at the play centre
Ah sorry, forgive my shite maths!
10st is about a st and a half under the top of the NHS 'healthy' weight bracket.
I'm the same height as you and considerably heavier
ah, I am 5ft7 too. only I also find it calories are just there saying - "consume me" when out. I went to see a band yesterday and just didn't want to only drink water. I had a glass of prosecco when out and a hot chocolate when I came home. One day at a time. Today's menu - porridge with raisins. Remains of winter veg pie for lunch. Beef and mushroom stew with a bit of rice for dinner. Maybe I will force myself to walk again today.
Today's menu has been awful nutrition wise, (and eating small regular meals wise) but quite tasty and low calorie...
I have had, 200 calories of popcorn (made up of a variety of flavours- DH did the shopping
). A 700 calorie Romana goats cheese and spinich pizza express pizza, a glass of apple juice, a glass of Rosé and some grapes!
Although scales were down again this morning so that's good can't control the urge to weigh several times a day
It seems unless I starve myself for days I don't loose a pound
I'm not starving myself but definitely hungry and a bit irritable by the time mealtimes come round. And tired because I am not used to moving so much.
Today, porridge and raisins, lunch: lentil soup from a packet dinner: salmon, rice and salad. And a walk.
Only, that doesn't sound good, how are you planning your menu?
This week I'm aware that I'm loosing weight just by eating less because its the first week of my diet, a couple of weeks down the line I fully expect to have to be more careful with types of food as well.
Why not sign up to my fitness pal if you are doing calories. You can set your goals etc on there and log all your foods.
only I am only going to have lost anything this week because I have cut all biscuits, chocolate and cake snacking, drinking mostly water and scaled down my portion size. And I'm going to do some time of exercise daily for 30 minutes to an hour.
groovee Thanks for the tip, might do that later when I level off in any weight loss. Until then I am trying to get used to less huge portions and healthier food as normal.
Freedom I do that any way. I walk the dog daily & am very active. No biscuits etc and am on myfitnesspal
is it any good my fitness pal? i imagine it to be a bit of a hassle
Only I think the closer you get to 'healthy weight' and you are only abt a stone off that, the harder it is to loose weight, I think you have to accept no weight loss on the odd week, you should get some next week with perseverance- I know that feels crap though,
Goodness me i can't be near healthy weight range I am massive >.<
What size jeans do you wear? I reckon, based on the info you've given that you can't be bigger than a 14, ergo you are not massive.
Overweight yes, but healthy weight for your (our) height is 11st 6- or at least it was when I last checked the NHS weight calculator thing- google it if you don't believe me
I my dear am massive, you are not!
I do myfitnesspal and have lost 50lbs in 24 wks with another 60lbs to lose. You can lose 40lbs by August if you find a method that works for you. good luck.
wow! well done chookkeeper
good luck everyone with staying focused and disciplined this week. Do you all have special events or reasons for loosing? Or a particular outfit you want to fit into? My reasons are health, vanity and a lovely red dress I have only worn once that I want to wear again.
opps - losing not loosing
My reasons are health, vanity, the fact that none of my nice clothes fit and <shhh looks around> TTC
The scales are well down on where I started- now need to hold strong this week!
Gah. Not a disciplined day today. the menu was all right. Porridge, bit of rice and left over beef stew for lunch and roast chicken leg and veg for dinner. It's the yoghurt, banana and 3 digestive biscuits and tea with sugar which I inhaled today and no exercise that pushed me off track. Nevermind, new day tomorrow.
Morning!!! Keep going freedom you'll get there.
Is there any snow where you lot are?
I weighed myself this morning and I'm 12 st 9
I want to set a goal, to get to 12 stone by end of Feb?
Well done on the weightloss!
Add me on myfitnesspal if you like, same username as here. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, started last monday, needed to lose 50lbs by August, plus I wanted to lose a stone by half term.
So far I have lost 10lbs. I'm eating around 1200-1400 cals a day, doing couch 2 5k, cycling and walking. I did try shred, lasted 10 mins and hurt my knee!
Have you thought of c25k? It's really good imo, I'm now on week 2.
I lost 4 stone 3 years ago, but have piled it steadily back on since. It IS doable.
oh and my weakness is chips too!
I'm 13 stone and 5'6 - I've already lost a stone, would love to get down to 10 stone eventually.
I'm a bridesmaid in mid-Feb so want to lose as much as possible by then. I'm having 1200 calories (or less) a day and logging it all in myfitnesspal...I love that app, think it's brilliant for keeping an eye on what you're eating and logging weight loss makes me feel good too!
Must admit I'm crap on the exercise front. Have a 14 month old ds so am hoping chasing after him will be burning lots of calories
Going to a dressmakers tomorrow to see if she can let out my bridesmaid dress, bastard thing won't zip up over my hips at the mo. I really want to be able to fit into it and look good by mid-Feb.
ohhh - well done only! We're not even at Friday weigh in yet.
I'm still not telling you much lighter than me people what I weigh
But I also weighed myself this morning (technically I started last Monday, but wasn't brave enough to weigh myself till Tuesday) and so in my first 'weighed week' I lost 5 3/4lbs! Which isn't bad going
.
If I can lose 2-3lbs per week from now on I'll be ahead of schedule.
- re snow, yes we had a few inches but it's melting fast. Cat doesn't like it though!
are we doing a friday weigh in still? I am 12 stone 3 lbs today. Which is 5.4 lbs less than last week so I guess the first week went ok. I signed up for fitness pal. I admit, it is quite good.
How are you getting on? I am doing 27 pounds by the end of March. Doing a plan online, 6 down 21 to go. Weekend of 40th birthdays (not mine yet) this weekend, can feel the resolve weakening and the Prosecco calling...
I've lost one more lb since Tuesday- which isn't as exciting as last weeks progress but healthier I suppose! It was SO hard to avoid the amazing looking fish and chips at work lunch sitting just now, but managed a jacket potato and salad.
It's very snowy and cold here too!
well done on resisting the fish and chips Felicity and another pound down is great! All in the right direction. I am enjoying playing around with calories on fitnesspal to see how much food (volume) I can scoff without going over the daily goal (1200 calories a day net) Doing lots of walking to be able to eat more.
So far today I have eaten 600 calories, about to cook dinner (chicken and potato and veg) and have a glass of wine, tomorrow it'll be 2 weeks in, only 8 to go before goal week!
I'm impressed by your exercise Freedom, in the cold I can't motivate myself to do it... I'm hoping it will come as I start to look less hippo like...
I just love eating Felicity. And if I exercise more, I get more calories to eat. I live in Foreign Lands where they are used to snow so walking in it is ok as we're well equipped with boots and ski underwear to keep warm. I'm actually eating a bit over 1500 calories a day but only once I'm sure I've walked off 350 at least to even it out. That is about 1.5 hours walking for me. Have a great week. Might check in on Friday latest for a progress check.
Well Tuesday weigh in has arrived, and I have lost 2 3/4 lbs this week. A healthy weight loss for week 2 I think!
8 1/2 weeks to goal and 11 1/4lbs to loose, think its doable.
If I can just keep motivated... How are you doing Only ?
WELL DONE Felicity very inspiring.
It's definitely doable if you really want to do it. Easter 2011 I weighed 13 and a half stone and by the Christmas of 2011 I weighed just over 9 stone. So I lost 60 pounds in 8 months. I stuck to under 1500 calories a day and cut out most carbs and all crap. I lost between 1 and 2 and a half pounds a week, never more than that. Good luck.
hmm, nothing lost since last friday. I am eating the right amount of calories and still walking. I haven't put anything on but how can it be that I am not losing anything at all? I'll be back with a weigh in tomorrow.
Have you joined another thread only?
Sorry to hear that freedom- are you eating the same number of calories that you are burning off walking?
Don't forget times of the month change things, I notice that with my obsessive weighing every day! On the first 2 days of my period my weight goes up by 1-2 lbs which can make it seem like I haven't lost anything and then it suddenly drops again,
I am yes. Maybe that is why. Perhaps I need to up my exercise. It is after all only 11 days since I started. I must be more patient.
Yes it is all about patience which can be tricky!
I'm through the ravenously hungry stage now, and trying to distract myself with imaginative ways of eeking out the calorie allowance instead!
Oh and avoiding the staff room after school- cake/biscuits is never going to be a good idea!
I have just calculated my kg into pounds and compared to last week. I have lost something. hooray! I am 12 stone 1.76 pounds this week which is 1.24 lb less than last week. not much but at least it isn't a gain. feeling a bit more motivated.
That's great! It's all progress!
<just checking in for a smug celebration>
See earlier comments about times of the month, but my weight has been going up and down all over the place this week, and I know it will probably go up again...
But as of a quick weigh in this afternoon I've dipped under the stone marker and now the front number reads something new, something a tiny bit closer to socially acceptable

So now to celebrate I'm off for a walk to waitrose (approx 45 mins each way), to buy something nice but in calorie budget for dinner!
woo hoo felicity good work. enjoy your in calorie meal.

Weight still spiking up and down in a confusing fashion!
Yesterday was my official weigh in day and scales showed I had lost 1 3/4lbs last week, monday and today scales were a further 2lbs down.
but at least it seems to be going the right way....
keep going felicity
Don't worry, I'm not giving up yet!
I forgot to weigh in yesterday but today I am 11 stone 13.5 pounds which is down 1-2 pounds from last week I think - in the right direction anyway.
yay well done freedom
only are you still with us?
How's it going Freedom?
I'm still plodding on, slow progress is being made... Blimey it's boring though!
mmm, as a result of stuffing my face I am still 11 stone 13.5 pounds. Thanks for the nudge Felicity. I am getting back on the wagon tomorrow. Glad to hear you are going well.
