Right then. Back to normal tomorrow - have been doing really well until today. I started being all healthy again (apart from wine at the weekends, obv) last Wednesday and had managed to shift 4lbs of the 12lbs or so I'd put on over Christmas blush

Am signing up to this thread if that's ok. Am joining MFP too, but scales are in the shed and it's too dark to trot down and get them tonight, so will start it all tomorrow. I lost 3.5 stone 3 years ago, and kept it off for over 2 years but its crept back on again over the last year. Bastard chocolate.
I have very little motivation though, so am really hoping a bit of virtual fat club will do the trick!

I don't want to think about my thighs, or weighing my boobs, although I would often like to get rid of my boobs. Having a mammogram was one of the most intensely painful moments of my life, and I'd be very glad to have a lot less to squash. <wince>
DH is out and I'm not hungry but I feel picky. The sweet bag is calling me. Help me resist.

Chub, I have been making a concerted effort since just before Christmas to paint my nails, cleanse tone moisturise, just be a bit more groomed. Gets your head in the right place for feeling like you are worth the effort for losing weight iyswim.

And I so needed to do something, the just jumped out of bed look is fine on a 20 something, not so good when you are 39 and 3/4.

I have decided to give up chocolate completely for a while, I will be like an evangelical ex-smoker "no thanks, I'm chocolate free". Only I can't just eat one square, I'll eat the whole lot, and fun size doesn't work for me. I think it's just easier to wean myself off, it's been 4 days without it and it's getting easier. sounds like drug addict
I'll still have occasional cakes and biscuits as I like them but don't go into a frenzy for them.

I'm going to attempt a chick pea and squash curry tomorrow, I hope it's not ming, not following a recipe just using up what I have and making it up as I go along. hmm

OK I admit I got the cals wrong and it is 381 cals for my Aubergine, but you could probably put more toms and garlic and less mozarella or half fat mozarella, which I didn't use this time. Also I would perhaps in future cut out the breadcrumbs, nice but not that bothered to be hones. Aubergine logs at about 20 cals per 100g and it is filling and a good alternative to meat!

After snorting my way through the last thread I was inspired to put my fat ass on the scales because my chicken fillets for pert norkage, which I thought I'd left at a pal's wedding, appear to have somehow got lodged under the skin of my waist and are very prominent whilst jean wearing.


I couldn't fecking read the scales. I'm only 5ft 3 - it isn't that far. I had to put on glasses.

I've put on a stone. And I still had half a stone to loose!

I'm 40, need to lose a stone and a half and from now I can't be naked to weigh myself. I bet glasses add pounds.

I don't look that bad in the mirror but perhaps it's because I hold my tummy in and don't wear my glasses

I'm a week behind you all. Thank you though for inspiring me. I'm now on it!

No, but I have scoured the house in rage looking for my glasses when I have been actually wearing them.

YY to them falling off , along with much wriggling to keep hair out of eyes. It took ages for the needle of doom to settle. And I was caught naked except glasses, on the scales mid-afternoon by my DH and smallest boy. It was a shaming experience to rival being caught snogging in the graveyard by Father Patrick.

Today I ate a mince pie before I realised I had to act. This evening acting consisted of one gin and slimline tonic instead of half a bottle of wine. <sigh>

I think I'm going to have to log the food and exercise on MFP.

403 cal Gammon and bean stew

Serves 6 (careful with portion control, suggest take half out before eating to limit!!!!)

1tbsp olive oil
800g piece of gammon unsmoked
1 finely chopped onion
200ml white wine
1thyme sprig
2 carrots in chunks
2 parsnips in chunks
400g flageolet beans drained and rinsed
400g butter beans drained and rinsed
4 medium potatoes cut in half
200g frozen petit pois

Heat oil in saucepan, add gammon and brown on meaty side (about 10 mins)
Remove from pan
Add onion to pan and cook for 5 mins til soft, return gammon to pan, pour over wine and sizzle for 1 min
Add thyme, carrots, parsnip, beans, pots and eas pour ove 400ml water, season cover with lid and simmer fr 1 hour
Remove gammon from an, take off fat and discard, cut meat into bite sized chunks and serve- can be done with bread

Thinking might take pots out and serve with steamed kale or summit grin

Can I join please? Started MFP at last week. Would like to lose 3 stones this year. Gradual build up of reserves since I met DH. Sure my hair has got heavier however....

I did a bit of research into natural appetite suppressants and one of the things that came up a few times were linseeds (flax). I have to say on the days ive had a spoonful of them, I have definitely had less of an urge to eat. But perhaps I'm just imagining it?

I think some are. But today's seem pretty accurate - 15 mins swimming, 160 cals or something, 20 mins weight training, 67 cals.

I don't care really - I never eat the extra it gives iyswim. Just eat the allowance up to 1200 and the cals burned off is a bonus.

I have had a terrible false start to this whole enterprise. I'm so greedy that I couldn't bear to throw out all the Christmas lovelies so have eaten all manner of calorie laden crapola since the weekend and have done no exercise.

Surviving on soups and the "healthy" ranges of ready meals is starting to get rather dull! and everyone's recipes are making my fingers twitch to start cooking

Weighing boobs had me laughing! I actually went hunting for the scales last night but couldn't find them confused I actually think DP might have hidden them from himself as he has just as much weight to lose as I do even if he won't admit it grin

Ah, snice, I have been there far, far more often than I'd like to admit and it sucks. I've gone down the route of simply not having any of that stuff in the house, otherwise I stand no chance - clearly I have no willpower.

I read a really interesting book a while ago (I'll try and remember the title later, it's escaped my mind) which explained the link between exercise and mood really well. Since I've been exercising every day I've stopped craving the "bad" foods so much, it took about 4-5 days of exercise before the cravings stopped though.

Oh, I know - you just have to choose to replace it with something else. I used to be able to eat a whole pack of caramel digestives plus a pack of foxes double choc chip cookies plus a 2 litre bottle of diet coke during one film on consecutive Friday and Saturday nights every weekend - so as you can see, I was really bad!

That was 2 years ago now. I started by cutting down for a couple of weeks and then just not buying the stuff so it wasn't in the house to tempt me. It took a lot of willpower initially to get off the bus (stop was right outside the shop) after work and walk past the shop to go home without stopping to buy something. I literally had to talk to myself (in my head of course!) and say "I will not walk into the shop, I will go straight home."

I used to use food as a reward and to cheer myself up, then I switched to beauty products/make up etc and now I'm happy to watch Lisa Eldridge's make up tutorials and not even waste money on beauty stuff I don't need! It's honestly been a revolution, although it was in fits and starts.

Oh I love peanut butter and can't keep it in the house. Skippy's is the best. Yes, it's delicious on hot buttered toast.

I am going to attempt a cleanse tomorrow. Wholesome, clean foods. So the Peanut butter cups had to go < via my mouth >

I am going to do a weigh in in the morning and take it from there I think and then commit to losing some weight. I am about 9 stone 6 I think after christmas, so that probably means I am in for a horrible shock as I am guesstimating that. Don't think I'm too far out though.

There's nowt wrong with tree trunk thighs when that are strong and lean but it sucks when they chafe. Sumo squats and lunges are your friends here.
Also don't be afraid of the big weights. It annoys me nO end when women moan about getting too muscular. You are not going to get muscles like Chyna unless you work out and diet like Chyna.
Also to you pears out there it is easier to bulk up your upper body rather than shrink your bottom with training.

Just dug out my measurements list- I measure at the beginning of every month, and I have 20 inch thighs. But in may last year they were 24.5 inches! I would recommend writing monthly inches, it's interesting to see where the weight comes off! Since may I lost 8 inches off my waist and 4 inches off each thigh but only half an inch off my arms!

I remember last year measuring my waist with dd's shatterproof ruler (no tape measure in the house).

Didn't work very well.

Then XP looked at me as if I was a complete moron and said why didn't I use a piece of string to measure my waist, then measure the bit of string on the ruler.

I just huffed and puffed and said 'YOU find a ball of string in this house then dumbass'

I ended up doing it with a dressing gown cord. That didn't work much either.

I have discovered the delights of Special K Cracker crisps, they are very yummy and only 92 cals for 21. Crisps are my main weakness so while these are a great replacement, I bought 4 boxes and they're calling me. If they weren't in the house I wouldn't be wanting them.

Lunch went well. I wasn't even hungry today and counting down the minutes until it was time to eat.

I am also not measuring my thighs until i start exercising. I have a cross trainer and i have been known to shred but I tend to find I stop 'losing' weight as the fat becomes muscle which weighs more and I find that disheartening. So I aim to lose half a stone then hit the exercise and will use the measurements then to prove i am getting smaller even when the scales otherwise!

Morning - well, t'is only 10am here.

Ok - so i weighed myself and have lost 1.5 lbs - so am back to just under per- Christmas weight. Only 50-60 lbs to go - hahahaha.

Anyway, that makes me feel better. Yesterday was ok, but I got home from taking ds to scouts and dh decided to be helpful, and made dinner for the first time in aaaaggggeeess. He is great at loads of things, but not cooking. So we had pasta arrabiata and garlic bread. Not exactly a great meal hohummm, but I was careful and only went over my calories by a little.

Tonight could be a disaster, so I need to be careful. We are going to a friend's surprise birthday dinner at a Brazilian steak house - so meat sweats for sure. Atkins - anybody?

I ahve made sure I start well - no fat yoghurt. blueberries and cashews for breakfast and I am still stuffed, so there is an alternative to porridge! These are the types of changes I need to figure out!

Fern I have just made dinner for tonight. I was a bit worried because I don't see this as a healthy or diet meal. I have made potato and mushroom curry (also has aubergine in it). I accurately did the calories as I went along and it is only 309 cals, plus another 176 for 50 g rice. It is very yummy. It's on the bbcgoodfood website. The only thing I do differently is use fry light instead of a tablespoon of oil. I'll freeze half and then that's an easy meal for next week as well.

Trouble is, the smell is making me hungry now grin

Well, I fell off the wagon a bit and skipped breakfast (wasn't hungry, so forgot) and then had McDonalds for lunch. <slaps self> I already have soup in the fridge at work (currently pretending to work) so I know I'll have a healthy dinner. Pretty carb heavy though, as it's leek, potato and cheddar soup.

I've done Ripped in 30 today so I don't feel too bad. And the builders have promised hmm to finish the kitchen today so I will get the painting done tomorrow and clean everything and I should be able to get all the kitchen stuff out of the spare room and into the kitchen. Then I'll have no excuse not to have healthy homemade food! I've felt a bit like I've had one hand tied behind my back trying to eat healthily with only a microwave to cook with!

I'm definitely going to have to meal plan for nutritional purposes - I know I don't get enough calcium/iron etc. I'm finding MFP a bit annoying with the layout to check the vitamins bit, as I can't see how to access that bit on the website, just on my phone? I think I'm going to find it a real challenge to meet the carb/protein/fat ratio and get all the daily requirements of calcium etc - I find that much more difficult than just counting calories not that I've calculated I could keep within calorie limits and eat at McDonalds every day, oh no

Brilliant day until 4.30, had a long walk, steak and garlic bread for lunch, and a hot bath.

Then I picked up the kids.

DS2 whinging as soon as he was in the door. DS1 lost his footie socks. Both had excessively muddy boots. We are having new fridge freezer delivered tomorrow (I hope. It's from Currys) so I had to empty old one, defrost, unplumb, clear magnets off, etc.

Put kids tea on. All fine til I try to microwave veg. Microwave door no longer opens! It did yesterday. So I threw my toys out, served them pork chops and potatoes only (they were thrilled!!) and poured a double vodka and tonic. Please don't flame me hmm

And it's DS1's birthday tomorrow. He is only having a friend round to tea so I hope the oven doesn't blow up before I cook the pizza...

Oh and DH is away, as he always is when there is any domestic problem. It's like the house saves up its issues (flooding, kitchen ceiling collapsing, skylight window falling in, birds in the house, etc) til it's just me here. I can cope, but it's a PITA when I have to juggle it with the kids and everything else.

Ok rant over. I am not going to raid the Pringles grin Hope you're all having a better evening and fabulous food

Freezing baked goods is a great idea; I made muffins the other day, but I only ate one and now the ones the dc and dh didn't snaffle are in little bags in the freezer for packed lunches.

I love baking, it's hard to do it though and not eat any. Thankfully I hate coconut and almonds and them lot <points> love the disgusting stuff, so I make raspberry almond buns or Bounty cake. and cry in the corner with a pear!

Anyway I feel better now I have had a bath and a nice cup of tea.

Portion control is definately my downfall.
Tonight I wanted 30g of cheese - DH estimated, them we weighed it and it was 90g.
Using MFP certainly makes me more aware of the vast quantities I eat.

Mnd you, I should have known, we have been known to buy an M&S dine in for two and buy extra side dishes - and I wonder why I am overweight...

Raspberry almond buns sound lush! I used to run my own catering business so baking feels a bit like work still but I'm getting back to liking it slowly. I still have lots of ingredients to use up as well, but as long as I don't eat them (often) it doesn't matter.
And yes portion control is really hard for me too.

Am having a sneaky vodka or two, after a week of abstinence - top tip for spirit drinkers, put ice and mixer in first and pour alcohol on top. The flavour stays in the ice all the way to the bottom, so you keep the taste.

Just a quick word of earning regarding MFP, a lot of the entries are incomplete. I'm sure everyone is checking them anyway but thought I say just in case.

The pasta sauce I had today, for example, scanned as a completely different make and when I looked at the nutritional breakdown all they'd entered was the total calories, nothing else at all. Nice try!

I'd initially entered a normal sized portion and was properly chuffed. When I entered the details correctly I hastily changed my mind. I ended up with 2 sodding tablespoons of it and still went over on fat sad

I am v hourglass. Though waist has widened. Used to have small waist, big hips, big top of thighs, legs slim from mid thigh down. Now a bit more blurry round the edges.

I feel relatively ok about it, my wine is still the first glass and wasn't huge, my snack was a bath oliver biscuit with quark (suprisingly nice!) and about 5 tangfastics hmm and for lunch I made relatively good choices - dried meats and fish with a sauce and I didn't eat the chips (did eat some yummy bread) and some cheese - still to log it as until I do am kidding myself grin

Tbh the only healthy thing about me is that I always drink loads of water.

I don't drink tea or coffee and am not keen on squash or pop. Water is actually my drink of choice.

I haven't bothered logging it on MFP because its just not something I think about, I easily get through 3-4 pints a day because most days its all I drink.

Long time fatty delurking after Having read both threads!!

Have lost 2lb this week pre poo, and needed a cup of tea so will save the power of the poo for another week!!

A couple of things I found Helpful, if im having trouble sticking my calories I count them mid day to midday - I find it easier to eat healthier during the day and stick to a low number of cals until lunch, then getting in from work with only 290 cals!! Id think blow it and eat the fridge!!

Changing your calorie goal is done by going to your profile and changing the amount you want to lose per week. I changed from 2lbs to 1lb and my calories went up from 1200 to 1360.
I have a friend who drinks the vinegar from the pickled onion jar when she is feeling a bit bunged up. Apparently, it works a treat. grinShe certainly lost about 4 stone.

Just had shredded chicken tikka in a pitta with lots of salad and am now stuffed to the eyeballs. Been to Sainsburys to buy food for entertaining tomorrow - won't be the best meal and I'll definitely be over calories but will log it faithfully.

Wow - everybody is doing such a great job - even at the weekend!

The gym was great this morning. I am the ultimate exercise-o-phobic. But I am really enjoying going to the gym - having a Personal Trainer helps, as he is great a showing me what to do properly, so I am not just wasting my time on the weights and things. I figure that the cost is worth every single cent - if it helps me lose weight, get healthy and stay healthier longer! My dh and ds go to Taekwondo, and the gym is my thing.

I even signed up for a spinning class tomorrow evening - it's going to kill me, isn't it? It will be my first time, but it looks like serious exercise.

The first time I had a PT session - I literally could not walk down stairs for 3 days. I had to either walk sideways, or go down on my bottom. My dh just laughed his head off every time I walked down stairs.

My day went to ratshit really, 4 cocktails, bruschetta and some chicken satays, then home, bag of crisps, bite of cheese, then to gym and 5000 m on the rowing machine pissed and a desultory lift of weights.

Home with a hangover and scouring the house for something to eat, fuck all in without cooking (urgh)

Signing in for the Day. Not had as good a day as yesterday as was out for lunch at I-Ls. But still avoided all carbs until 630 but then fell on a pizza with my mouth open. Only thing keeping me within sight of my 1200 calories today was the run to and from the doctors with DS because his chest infection is getting worse.

Doublemum - I cooked it in the low oven of an Esse (like an Aga). I stuck in in with some barbecue marinade, a chopped up apple and some ginger syrup and left it for 9 hours. Then I removed the fat, shredded it and mixed in some ketchup, worcestershire sauce and wholegrain mustard.

It was very nice. There was loads left over. Usually I'd pick at it but I've left out enough for tea tomorrow and lunch on Monday and frozen the rest.

wise a diet tip I used was count from midday to midday, or 5pm til 5pm if you eat most of your calories in the evening, then count them first. You could (well I could) cope during a work day on only 200 - 300 cals in the day if I get all my calorie allowance in the evening!!

Not sure how you'd do it on mfp and Im not saying its a great method but when I did WW it helped me keep within points!

I didn't Shred yesterday so that was two days without blush. It's soo difficult to do with 2dc around. On weekdays dd2 will just potter around me jumping around like a loon but with both dc here it's ner enough impossible.

STBXH took them to the park this morning though and I used my childfree time to excercise shock I think I deserve a medal for that.

Stood on the scales this morning for the first time in 3 days and since Monday (when I started eating better and Shredding) I've lost 4lbs!

I have no idea what to do for dinner. I was going to do the Chicken and white bean stew Pooh linked to earlier in these threads but I forgot to get the haricot beans and cannot face a supermarket with two dc in tow on a busy Sunday so I'm going to have to think again.

I have been brutally honest with my food diary for yesterday and it was not great. I gained 700 calories via exercise and I wasted much of that, as we went to an impromptu party at our Taekwondo DoJang. Chicken wings, noodles - aggghhhhh. At least I was driving so I could not join in the drinking games....dh slept in the basement and I bet he is not looking very pretty right now! I also did the cleaning after the party, while they continued drinking, and I walked the dog - so that will help a bit.

Anyway, I have a spinning class tonight, so that will likely make me work very hard! I'm off to walk the dog, as dh is probably still passed out on the couch still asleep.

Tbh we just sat around a table in a couple of local pubs, no fancy wine bars or clubbing or anything, so all I did was enter one pint before I left then I just changed the quantity on my phone each time I got back from the bar.

I know it's not exactly 'correct' to have logged it over the two days but it's really helped me to stay on track and not just give it up as a lost day iyswim.

Well I just want to cry this morning. Just weighed myself and I appear to have re-gained the 4lbs I lost over the last week! WTAF?! I feel so disheartened and ANGRY. I know I did some good eating on saturday but I was only about 400 cals over and I definitely had cals left over from other days to absorb that.

I am pissed off. Also, I am wondering whether my anti-depressants are to blame. I am sure that they are the reason I stacked this weight on in the first place (started taking them last January and have piled 3 stone on in that time) and I am wondering whether they are stopping me from losing the weight?

Pfffffffft. I'm not giving in though.

How often are you weighing? Have you tried measuring as we'll maybe? My weigh-in day is going to be Wednesdays so might bite the bullet and start measuring from this week.

I don't know anything about anti-depressants but it does sound very coincidental. Your food diaries look really good, you haven't cheated, I can't see what else it could be.

Keep going though, don't let it dishearten you for too long. You can do it chief!

Oh Bups, please don't lose heart, I weigh on Wednesdays and this morning had a sneaky peek and it looked like I was 2lbs on. I know I am not though. Clothes feel looser etc.

Could you ask your GP about the anti-d's?

What about upping exercise? Would help you lose inches and tone, boost your metabolism? The 10 minute solution DVDs are a fab starter. Much less difficult than the Shred and you can fit one 10minute one in or do more.
