To run concurrently with BIWI's Low Carb Bootcamp - the 30 Day Shred challenge! Come and chat about all things Shred here, and feel free to moan talk about other types of exercise too.

Oh God, now I actually have to do it! <wibbles>

abbierhodes Fri 04-Jan-13 12:05:57

Can I join? I have the DVD, have done it twice about 3 months ago! I keep saying I'll start again but I'm too goddamn lazy! Perhaps if I have to report back to you guys I'll drag my arse off the sofa!

PrettyPirate Fri 04-Jan-13 12:10:45

Well done starting this!! I'm in!!!
Will start on Monday when kids go back to school, don't know why but I can't stand them joining in -that's why they have just dance game-.

I did shredding more than a year ago and i seem to remember not to do it every day, need to leave yourself a day (or two) between to let the body rest. So 30 day shred takes about two months or bit more.

After a week I found level 1 not challenging enough and did level 2 - that was great workout. Never got to level 3, this time it will happen!!

Kracken Fri 04-Jan-13 12:11:59

Ooh, I'm in! Bought DVD a year ago and it's still in the wrapper! grinWhat day are we going to start?

Kracken Fri 04-Jan-13 12:14:28

Pretty pirate, what results did you get? Were you more toned? I don't know anyone who's done shred, but I don't have much time to exercise so hopefully it will suit me. My arms, thighs and tummy are SO wobbly and I really don't want another summer of covering up!

TooImmatureMincePies Fri 04-Jan-13 12:19:32

Abbierhodes, of course! I'm hoping that having to report back will force me to do it too.

Kracken, I thought I might start tomorrow when DH can look after DD. I go back to work on Monday after 10 months off on mat leave, so I want to have started before then (even if it's only 2 days before).

PrettyPirate, I thought you could exercise 4/5 days out of 7? Not sure, though - my trouble is that I stop for a day off and then never restart.

TooImmatureMincePies Fri 04-Jan-13 12:20:15

Kracken, if you Google 30 day Shred before and after, you get some pretty amazing pictures.

PrettyPirate Fri 04-Jan-13 12:21:03

I did running too and gave up shredding after 4 weeks (2-3 per week). Kept running for couple of more months, did 5K and that was the end of my exercise. I did feel fitter and toned (esp my arms), although didn't keep an eye on my eating and that's why didn't have great results weight-wise (think lost about 5 kg but that came back quite quickly).

Now determined to do LC properly and use shredding as toning up tool rather relying on that to lose weight.

PrettyPirate Fri 04-Jan-13 12:24:17

I think when you start shredding and haven't exercised much before then it's important not to hurt your body too much and give it time to rest a day. Need to read again about it, not sure now if I'm rightblush

prettybird Fri 04-Jan-13 12:26:06

I was doing Ripped in 30 before Christmas. I've finally got to Week 3 (had had two lapsed attempts before, when I only got as far as Week 2) - god knows what Week 4 is like.

After the wee break for Christmas slobbing relaxing, I'm debating whether to start again at Week 2, start again at Week 1 or continue at Week 3.

I've also done the Shred in the past. I still remember the first time I got to Level 3 being totally incapable of getting off my elbows in the "elbows to plank to elbows again" exercise in Circuit 3 (can't remember its proper name) - and being so pleased 2nd time round that I could now do it! grin

I've also just signed up to a 6-8 week road cycling coaching sessions, 3 hours on a Saturday morning. I wasn't sure that they wanted an overweight, 50+ year old - but the lady taking them says that I'm just the sort of person they're aimed at....

They start on the 19th - not sure what I've let myself in for! hmm

froufroulala Fri 04-Jan-13 12:29:52

Can I join please. Have just ordered it so will start as soon as it arrives, am scared already shock

LucyVFood Fri 04-Jan-13 13:00:25

froufroulala, I'm worried too! Think I'm too unfit blush

Lavenderhoney Fri 04-Jan-13 13:10:34

I want to join;)

I did the shred last year, but I have a slight injury which stopped me exercising. It's better now I think but I haven't exercised for 6 weeks now. I also have 6pack in 6 weeks which i should do plus Pilates. I also have a zumba DVD somewheresmile I am a sahm with dc one at school one at home all the time, plus dh works all the time and is away a lot, so I have to do stuff in the home.

froufroulala Fri 04-Jan-13 13:58:18

Lucy I know I am unfit !!!

I'm in, thanks toomuch!

I will start on Monday, but not yet sure whether I will attempt every day or try doing every other day with a run in between...

I hate exercising indoors but also find it hard to get myself out in the dark when I get home from work during the winter, so I may well need lots of nagging encouragement. Dp will be back to his rugby fitness regime though which will help

Gah sorry, meant tooimmature!

MulledwineGless Fri 04-Jan-13 14:59:52

I'm in - got a wedding 3 weeks today so would like to tone up a bit

Oh christ guess Id better put my name down here too grin I'll start on monday too when the kids are back at school. I must say though, my arms started looking so fab when I was using it properly months a while ago

I'd best go and scrabble about in the dvd cupboard now to find it....

cathyandclaire Fri 04-Jan-13 16:12:09

I'm in!
Errrr... from Monday I think, got to kick the carb Flu first!
For anyone waiting for their DVD delivery the first section (enough for the first ten days ) is on You Tube...should keep you going until Amazon get it to you. We will all have six packs by February grin

Mrsrudolphduvall Fri 04-Jan-13 17:27:24

Can I join in???
I did my first one, she keeps you going!

I'm fairly fit, belong to a gym and had apersonal trainer every week in 2012.
However I've reached the point where I think I've done everything with her, and it was so expensive.

So I have my last session with her tomorrow ( haven't told her yet blush) and figure if I do the Shred, plus gym and pilates that should be enough.

I'm 6 feet tall and about eleven and a half stone...I'm 52 and have found the weight piles round the middle if I'm not careful.

So will be starting the shred properly on Sunday.

diabolo Fri 04-Jan-13 17:51:10

I'm joining.

Just finished Day 2 of Level 1 and I am buzzing.

I could barely get out of bed this morning, groaning when I walked down the stairs etc and thought there was NO WAY I could do it again today, but I did. I can do everything apart from a full press-up, I have to do the cheat version, but I am determined to get there. I haven't exercised for years apart from 2 x 2 mile dog walks I do each day.

I need to lose a stone so am combining shredding with 5:2 and Dry January,, so hopefully will see some real results by 31st.

Kracken Fri 04-Jan-13 18:24:26

Thanks for responding ladies, the before and after pics are astonishing! I have a busy day tomorrow and out in the evening so will start Sunday, promise!

I started LC on weds so hopefully by sun I will have a bit more energy too. Not sure if I'm in ketosis, I have some pee sticks coming tomorrow which show whether you're in ketosis or not- handy!

TooImmatureMincePies Fri 04-Jan-13 19:30:30

Oooh, lots more people! Welcome, everyone!

I know I am unfit too. I haven't done anything except walking the dog and carrying DD around since she was born (she's 10 months now). My tummy is horrendous - I'm hoping toning helps with the wobbly loose skin folds. sad I'd also better go and scrabble around for the DVD and the set of DH's weights I was using last time I tried this. And my sports bra and trainers...

Lavenderhoney Sat 05-Jan-13 09:57:05

Tested my injury but getting to the gym and running/ walking for a session. Went well with no pain, so I am pleased I can get in there when I can now.

I will start the shred tomorrow or Monday. And dh and I have stopped drinking and dh has stopped smoking which is very hard for him and he is a tiny bit grumpy even thought its not even 24 hrs.

Mrsrudolphduvall Sat 05-Jan-13 11:02:48

Sacked the personal trainer this morning, but she made me do a very hard session first!
Shred tomorrow morning.

TooImmatureMincePies Sat 05-Jan-13 12:48:10

Well done you, Mrsrudolph! And well done to you and your DH, Lavender.

I'm going to start today...later, when my lunch goes down a bit.

Notfootball Sat 05-Jan-13 16:52:23

I'm in too! I started on 1st Jan on level 2 because I did 10 days of level 1 in Nov/Dec and couldn't bear to start from the beginning again. Did day 4 today. I completed the shred in 30 consecutive days last year and lost 30 cms all over, definitely worth it.
Like you MrsRudolph, I carry weight around the middle, so hard to shift! I'm also off the booze for the month, roll on February!

TooImmatureMincePies Sat 05-Jan-13 20:55:29

Okay, I did it! <pant pant, gasp gasp> L1D1 down! Did girly push-ups, though - needed to ease myself in gradually. God, I hate the lunges!

PrettyPirate Sat 05-Jan-13 22:35:15

Well done TooImmature !!! It does get easier I seem to remember

diabolo Sun 06-Jan-13 10:27:36

Day 4 today of 30DS and I don't hurt any more.

Does that mean I need to move up to Level 2 already?

TooImmatureMincePies Sun 06-Jan-13 10:46:29

Good for you, Diabolo! I ache all over. blush As far as moving up goes, how easy is it to complete? Can you do all the press-ups properly, and are you following Natalie and getting right into every squat/lunge etc? If you are, I would say move up, but if not, I would stay at Level 1 for a bit longer. I once tried Level 2 and it is much harder - you need pretty strong arms/core to manage the bloody jumping press-up things.

Notfootball Sun 06-Jan-13 10:56:36

Well done Diabolo! I second Too, it's advised to do ten days on each level to maximise your strength before moving on to the next one. Level 2 is actually the hardest of the 3 so I would recommend that you continue on level 1 but if you feel ready for a challenge then go for it.

Just read this to motivate me to do day three of L1 shred. I have a short break before going back to work so trying to fit in some good habits in the next 2 weeks. I am trying to do ww using an unofficial pro points app. Not great at managing portion sizes but at least I am eating more mindfully and refusing seconds and reducing carbs. I have a big birthday in May and a holiday late June. I would love to lose 2.5 stone as on my 5 ft 1 frame it is a lot of excess. Currently a size 16 with a lot of wobble. I am making do with food cans rather than proper hand weights just now which is a bit of a cop out but will get some light weights this week.

NoelHeadbands Sun 06-Jan-13 12:50:02

Omg I'll do it then, if I MUST

<throws self around dramatically>

I have the DVD, I'll start tomorrow <sob>

Yoghurty Sun 06-Jan-13 13:18:17

Ok, can you count me in too, please? I'm starting the LC bootcamp tomoro with everyone else- and just completed my first shred workout.

I found it manageable but couldn't do the bicycle crunches at all! I now feel a bit shaky and already a bit achy (I haven't done any exercise except walking the dogs for MONTHS) but I need to do this- I'm getting married this year and want to look good in my photographs- and obviously feel better and be healthier grin

How many consecutive days do you all shred on?

diabolo Sun 06-Jan-13 14:00:05

I thought I should stay on L1 for at least 10 days, so I will and just push myself harder and "do" Natalie all the time,

Thanks for the advice.

TooImmatureMincePies Sun 06-Jan-13 14:00:40

I'm not sure, Yoghurty - I have heard that you're supposed to have the odd rest to let your body recover, but I'm not sure how often. Anyone know? Congratulations on being engaged!

Lavenderhoney Sun 06-Jan-13 14:31:31

Well I bought some new scales today. I am starting tomorrow with the shred and the low carb boot camp. So last glass of wine tonight, last roasties..

I've downloaded the shred onto my iPad so I can hide in the bedroom and do it. Even my ds age 5 can do proper pressups it's embarressingsmile

froufroulala Sun 06-Jan-13 15:22:58

Looked at the shred on level 1 on youtube (thanks Cathy) yesterday. Started today & didn't get past the warm ups blush !! Am so so unfit it really opened my eyes. Will carry on but will be so slow compared to all of you,

NoelHeadbands Sun 06-Jan-13 15:47:15

You won't be slow compared to me froufrou I promise

Lavenderhoney Sun 06-Jan-13 17:13:12

Or me, I used to run 5k in less than 30 mins. I can barely lumber to the scales nowsmile

abbierhodes Sun 06-Jan-13 19:16:32

I just did level 1 for the first time. Found it hard going but I finished it and I'm kind of buzzing now! Am determined to complete the 30 days this time round. Am also doing Paul McKenna. I have 3 stone too lose and I'm not stopping until I get there.

abbierhodes Sun 06-Jan-13 19:17:32

Froufrou, the last time I did it I found that some days I completed it and other days I didn't, so don't give up!

TooImmatureMincePies Sun 06-Jan-13 21:26:47

How the hell did it get to be half past 9 and I haven't Shredded yet? <slaps self with wet fish>

Mrsrudolphduvall Sun 06-Jan-13 21:35:12

Am planning to get up about 7 tomorrow and doing it.
I'm at my best first thing.

Will let you know grin

TooImmatureMincePies Sun 06-Jan-13 22:06:48

Did it! Day 2 down. Only 28 to go...

Kracken Sun 06-Jan-13 22:53:57

Ok, I have to admit to a shred fail! BUT, am ill with stomach bug and all shaky and pathetic. Very annoying as was LC weds-fri this week then got ill yesterday and all I can eat is crackers and the odd bit of fruit so now off LC too. Fingers crossed I will be better tomorrow and back on LC!

Well done to everyone who shredded and good luck to those starting tomorrow, I hope to join you soon!!

Brianstorm Mon 07-Jan-13 01:02:19

Count me in - starting at a reasonable hour today...

cafecito Mon 07-Jan-13 01:16:59

Hello, can I join? I bought the DVD in 2010 or 2011, did level 1 for a couple weeks and had noticeable results just from that, then stopped. BUT I intend to start tomorrow morning (ok I intended this on jan 1st, but hey ho..) so will shred first thing. Have bought 2kg handweights from john lewis, had some 1kg ones but they felt too light (have been doing pilates and got stronger since I last shredded)
I'm a bit scaredy though. and have creaky floorboards so I have to do it in my itchen grin

cafecito Mon 07-Jan-13 01:17:43

can I jjust check- it's 10 days level 1, 10 days level 2 10 days level 3 right = 30 consecutive days?

cafecito Mon 07-Jan-13 01:19:24

lavender how do you download onto an ipad? <stupid question> I've just gt an ipad mini - will it be too small to shred from? my laptop needs repairing so wll be using that

Toddle Mon 07-Jan-13 01:46:26

Can I join please. I started two days ago so tomorrow/today is L1D3 for me.

Cafecito I'm doing it on YouTube too as I don't have the DVD. I tired it a couple of times on the laptop but it wasn't loading fast enough. I've got a iPhone I used today and just stood It up on the sofa in front of me. It was quite hard to see what was going on when I was on the mat but I seemed to remember what was coming next.

Today was far less enthusiastic then yesterday because my muscles hurt so much. I did it before dinner today and I'm aching everywhere still so i dread to think what tomorrow will be like

Yoghurty Mon 07-Jan-13 08:50:11

Urgh. Don't know what possessed me, but I was shredding at 6:30 this morning. As someone said down thread, I didn't have as much energy/enthusiasm as yesterday, and when I finished I wanted to crawl back into bed!

I didn't thou, I got in the shower and I'm on my way to work. My 'plan' was to do it every morning like today as when I get home in the evening, I don't want to do much more than walk the dogs and cook dinner! I'll see how I feel in the morning thou!

Oh and thanks, Tool smile

Lavenderhoney Mon 07-Jan-13 09:14:43

Cafecito, you download it from videos. You can buy level by level. I don't know about the iPad mini, someone on the geek thread might be able to help though. Once you have paid for something you can delete it and then re download if you want.

Mrsrudolphduvall Mon 07-Jan-13 09:44:28

So Much for getting up at up at 8.30, but have done it.
It's a hell of a long 20

Shodan Mon 07-Jan-13 09:49:38

Don't mind me.

I'm just sitting quietly, in my corner, waiting for the dss to be out of the house so I can start the 30 day shred.

I am already supposed to be a v fit energetic-type person but I fear I'm going to suffer...

Notfootball Mon 07-Jan-13 10:16:39

Well done Yoghurty! Doing it first thing is definitely the way to go. I'm going to do it tonight when DCs are in bed but from tomorrow I'll have to get up before DH and make the effort. Means I'll have to stick to my other resolution of going to bed early.

I was up most of he night with a sick DD.have had a brisk 45 min walk and aim to shed when she has her aftenoon nap.

Shodan Mon 07-Jan-13 11:34:17

Actually that wasn't too bad. Got shaky legs now but otherwise is ok.

The proof will be whether I carry on with it though...

TooImmatureMincePies Mon 07-Jan-13 13:10:39

I wish I could do it first thing, but as I have to be out of the house by 7 it's just not going to happen! My slot is later in the evening after DD's in bed and my dinner has gone down sufficiently. I'll try doing it earlier than 9.40 tonight, though.

KatyPeril Mon 07-Jan-13 13:21:52

I want in! Still waiting for the DVD to arrive and then I'm on it grin

Lavenderhoney Mon 07-Jan-13 13:29:17

Did the shred level 1 and did some Pilates.

I have 6 pack in 6 weeks which I will attempt later. I tried to join in, ended up panting and watching after 2 mins and turned it off. Had to see to dd anyway!

KatyPeril Mon 07-Jan-13 13:30:43

What time of the day are you finding is the best time to do it?

TooImmatureMincePies Mon 07-Jan-13 14:11:25

Katy, you can get at least Level 1 on YouTube free as a temporary measure.

Blimey, Lavender, Shred and Pilates and possibly 6 Week 6 Pack! shock [awe]

beela Mon 07-Jan-13 14:20:08

Can I join you?

I've been shredding twice a week for a couple of months - long enough to get to level three, anyway. I've lost about half a stone without really altering all the biscuit eating anything else, so it must be doing something.

I'm also having a dry January, and will try to up my shredding to 4-5 times per week. Just done session one for this week smile

Yoghurty Mon 07-Jan-13 14:45:24

Oh my god. I'm sat at my desk at working cursing Jillian Michaels! I'm aching! Oddly enough, it's my armpit/shoulder area from the push ups and chest flies- I thought it would be my thighs or 'abs' smile (they are under there somewhere)

I'm thinking I'm going to try and do all week of mornings, and have the weekend off.

Notfootball Mon 07-Jan-13 16:02:37

According to a personal trainer on the radio, 20 mins of exercise in the morning = 60 mins in the evening. Not sure how true that is but I find it hard in the morning as I am a lot stiffer, and in the evening I'm more flexible, Jillian-flexible not Anita/Natalie-flexible!

I just did L2 D6 a couple hours ago, god knows how with 3 little people running in and out and 'exercising' with me.

Standingonlego Mon 07-Jan-13 16:09:02

I found all the stuff for 30 day shred levels 1,2 & 3 on you tube. View for free and no "dog ate my DVD" excuses possible!

Standingonlego Mon 07-Jan-13 16:09:44

Day 5 level one later today!

diabolo Mon 07-Jan-13 17:09:51

Oh God!

I've just finished Day 5 L1 and I tried to "do" Natalie all the way. I think I'm dying - my arms and legs feel like jelly and I'm sweating so much I look like I've been dunked in a swimming pool.

LucyVFood Mon 07-Jan-13 17:16:41

Bloody hell.

I am so unfit. It was embarrassing, I'm just glad no one was watching. However, I did it (well, kind of, in a very pathetic fashion) although the bicycle thingies at the end nearly finished me off. I'll have to do thirty days at level one!

Salutes those who do this on a regular basis

LucyVFood Mon 07-Jan-13 17:17:51

That was just supposed to be a star, not bold! That was my day one btw, I hope there'll be a day two...

Yoghurty Mon 07-Jan-13 19:23:01

Diablo- grin to 'do-ing Natalie'! She doesn't look like she's breaking a sweat at all, does she?

At least me and Anita are 'shining' under the lights smile

IslaValargeone Mon 07-Jan-13 19:43:36

I'm joining in, first day today.
The rest of my post reads exactly like LucyVFood's post at 17.16

IslaValargeone Mon 07-Jan-13 19:45:01

I shocked myself at my lack of ability with pressups.
I did the wimpy modified version and still could only manage 3 ffs blush

abbierhodes Mon 07-Jan-13 20:39:53

Can someone answer a question please?
I really don't want to give up but I'm still hurting like fuck a little sore from yesterday! Do I power through?

Toddle Mon 07-Jan-13 20:41:51

Done d3! I found it a lot easier then the first two days. I was able to push myself a little bit harder too on some of the moves.

I'm you yoghurty I'm aching there too much more then expected. I had to sleep on my back last night as it was to painful to lay on the front of my legs!

Toddle Mon 07-Jan-13 20:45:58

abbier is power through. You would struggle to be less fit then I was! I was sick although a tiny bit twice the first day I did it. The second day I was hurting so much so I couldn't do everything to quite the extent of the day before. I did it and it felt good going to bed knowing I'd done it. I've just done day three think posted at same time and I was definitely dying today. AF has appeared for the first time since having ds and I felt like a train reck but I did it and it was 1000% better then day 1 smile

Toddle Mon 07-Jan-13 20:46:31

That should be yes.

abbierhodes Mon 07-Jan-13 20:52:29

Right. I will do it in half an hour! Wish me luck! (If I don't post again someone send an ambulance!!) grin

TooImmatureMincePies Mon 07-Jan-13 21:32:54

I haven't done mine yet...and I feel v full of tea. Is Day 3 really easier? It's getting late and DH moved everything today so I don't know where my trainers/sports bra/weights are now.

Still, today was a bit pants in most respects, so perhaps if I do the Shred I'll feel like I did something meaningful? My deal with myself is that I have to complete the Shred before even thinking about ttc again (2 babies 363 days apart; SPD; ELCS with second: no tummy muscles whatsoever. I worry about the SPD in a 3rd pregnancy unless I do what I can now to strengthen all my muscles). <gets broody, brought on by first day back at work after mat leave>

L1D1 done! It was NOT fun but not as bad as I remembered, but I am still crap at press ups

Whendoigetadayoff Mon 07-Jan-13 22:17:44

Did first day of L1 just with OH. Wasn't as bad as expected but its all go isnt it? I like it though as you just dint get chance to stop or slow down so it goes fast - was pleased fitter OH was just as knackeredas me. first time weve exercised together since we used to to gym when i was pregnant 6.5 years ago. Used tins instead of weights though so that made easier. What are the weights supposed be?
We did via You Tube on TV to see what it was like and are going to aim to do every second evening. We know we won't manage every day so are trying to be ambitious but realistic and I know I won't get up at 6.15am to do it!
Just need to try do earlier than 9.30pm!

I almost didn't do it today as sick DD would only nap on me. I managed to fit it in before bed.which is just as well since diet was a bit rubbish today.

beela Mon 07-Jan-13 22:25:35

I don't think there is enough stretching at the end, but even just adding another 5 mins of stretching helps with the stiffness the next day, and it still only takes it to half an hour.

Toddle Mon 07-Jan-13 22:35:10

too yes it definitely felt easier. Maybe because I couldn't give it 100% on day 2? I also need to get fitter before the next baby. Although mine will be a bigger gap! I had a horrific pregnancy with pgp, so that another benefit I hadn't thought about

cafecito Tue 08-Jan-13 00:56:08

Right I have not shredded yet blush I never manage it in the morning - so I am going to have a new rule - shred before bed (I realise this is not ideal but it's just not happening in the mornings) wiggle I will catch up with you!

cafecito Tue 08-Jan-13 02:16:22

I just shredded!! I feel better now smile abck on track, so jan 7th I shall count as day 1 for me- 29 to go!

cafecito Tue 08-Jan-13 02:17:07

*back - clearly all those side lunges have left me unable to type. I think 2kg handweights was optimistic of me that killed my shoulders

Mrsrudolphduvall Tue 08-Jan-13 07:42:31

I consider myself fit bit I can only do easy pressups as I have a shoulder problem.
Don't think I'll ever do proper big girl ones.

Is it a huge leap between beginner and level 1?

i agree beela and i do more stretching too

cafecito my biceps seem to be much stronger than my other muscles so i use heavier ones for them and lighter ones for shoulder presses etc

mrsr i seem to remember there is a bit of a leap between levels 1 and 2

NoelHeadbands Tue 08-Jan-13 07:54:02

I'm starting today. I did mean to start yesterday but.... <slaps self>

diabolo Tue 08-Jan-13 08:43:49

I love Shredding! I'm doing 5:2 and having a Dry January in combination with shredding and I've lost 6 lbs in a week and can do up my belt an extra hole this morning.

Day 6 for me a little later on today.

1.5 lb loss this week despite no rigid dieting just trying to be sensible. I am sticking with the shred and will get some proper weights.

Lavenderhoney Tue 08-Jan-13 10:01:44

I'd did the shred day 2 - still have to stop and pant. I keep all the stuff in a box in the bedroom so I can just go in with the iPad, get changed and go. I do it before lunch as there is no other time what with drop off and dd is quiet around then.
Then I do the Pilates in bits as I go along. I'm nt sure when to do the six pack, it's a bit longer and I am not very good at getting the dc into bed and asleep at the moment.

I'm not sure I like jillian tbh...

CrunchyFrog Tue 08-Jan-13 10:33:48

Just done day one. have crept back up in weight (was 16 stone this time 2 years ago, 10 stone 3 at lightest in the summer, 11 now so need to nip it in the bud. Didn't find it too awful, but feel terrible now! Starting lowish carbing today too.

mum2twoloudbabies Tue 08-Jan-13 10:39:37

Just found this thread, please can I join. L1d5 just finished it's starting to get easier and that's from someone who hasn't really exercised in 2 years after a crappy pregnancy. Although reading this thread I daren't even contemplate L2 confused to scared to even look at it.

I am following food dr diet and shredding must lose 1.5 stone by end of feb for holidays.

lavenderhoney I don't like her much either now I know the routine I did without her VoiceOver today which was a big improvement!

mum2twoloudbabies Tue 08-Jan-13 10:40:51

Oops meant end of march, although that much by end of feb would be amazing grin

Shodan Tue 08-Jan-13 11:04:47

L1D2 done. (Shred) Not too bad although my press-ups are pants (we do 'special' press-ups at karate- the kind where you dip your elbows about 1 cm while furiously nodding your head after a sadist sensei has barked out "Right! A 1000 press-ups all round for being wusses". But I digress...)

Also the first day of quitting smoking. I think maybe I'll ignore the ironing and crawl back into bed grin

PrettyPirate Tue 08-Jan-13 11:20:54

Well done everyone!!!

First day L1 here, supposed to start yesterday but friend came around and then run out of time.

I feel all jelly now. Used 1.13kg weights, I do keep lighter ones at the side but didn't use them at all. DS did, he loves copying me, he also said 'this lady looks bit cross' grin. I explained she HAS too look cross, otherwise mummy wouldn't copy her properlygringrin

Day 2 tomorrow. Unless I can't move at all..

PrettyPirate Tue 08-Jan-13 11:23:16

* I also do few minutes of extra stretching in the end, don't think she does enough on dvd.

ScaredySquirrel Tue 08-Jan-13 12:12:56

I did day1 too today - inspired by you (dvd sitting on my shelf since I bought it in the summer). Also combining it with 5:2 and cutting out all chocolate/cakes etc (I am addicted to sugar, and never used to be).

Hope to lose the still pregnant look 8 months after having the baby (am down to pre-baby weight, but stomach still looks 5 months pregnant) and stop my arms flapping when I move them.

KatyPeril Tue 08-Jan-13 12:15:29

It arrived! Wish me luck......

PrettyPirate Tue 08-Jan-13 13:08:59

Good luck Katy!! smile

TooImmatureMincePies Tue 08-Jan-13 13:47:47

I failed to do it last night - bad! I will do it tonight, I will, I will! Think might put DD to bed before I have dinner and do it before I eat...unless I get home starving. Hmm.

LucyVFood Tue 08-Jan-13 18:45:09

Day 2. I didn't want to do it but DH shoved me upstairs with the laptop as soon as I got in (DVD hasn't arrived yet). He knows me so well; if I'd sat down I wouldn't get back up.

That woman is cruel. The bicycle things: why? Why? Why at the end?

I'm a bit trembly and my thighs hurt from yesterday. But I'm glad I did it smile

Mrsrudolphduvall Tue 08-Jan-13 18:53:46

Just done mine.
Just anout to have M and S curry grin

LucyVFood Tue 08-Jan-13 19:01:36

Meant to ask, is anyone on here on My Fitness Plan? If so, what do you put the Shred down as? I've been saying aerobics so far.

cafecito Tue 08-Jan-13 20:30:24

I have not done day 2 yet but 'must shred before bed' so I shall then (though I'm eating curry first mrsrudolph blush probably not the best idea

I just started with myfitnessplan today. I have managed to meet the 1200 cal target with the help of l1d5 of the shred I think I put it down as circuit training but not sure if that is the best option or not.

TooImmatureMincePies Tue 08-Jan-13 20:41:01

Must Shred before bed too, Cafecito! Am aiming to start soon.

TooImmatureMincePies Tue 08-Jan-13 21:44:29

Did it! Bloody knackered - today was much harder than Sunday! L1D3 - think will try not to skip a day for the next 4 or so. Stopping and then restarting seems to be hard going. Or it could be that this is day 4 of the low-carb bootcamp and I'm feeling a bit carb-fluey. confused Who knows?

cafecito Tue 08-Jan-13 23:13:48

ouch, did it!

Standingonlego Tue 08-Jan-13 23:53:11

Another "shred before bed" person here, just done day 5 level 1. It is getting a bit is my calves that are really sore! Agree with the more stretching needed comments.

Hey all, a bit late to the party but I've been thinking about doing this for a few days so thought I'd look for like minded (crazy and sore) people to help motivate me.

I started a diet in October and have lost a stone so far (but put on 3lbs over Christmas), but I'm WOEFULLY unfit so wanted to do something bouncy as well.

I've downloaded the vid, think I'll start tomorrow.....sounds crazy but I'm thinking of getting up early and doing it before anyone gets up. I have a 2 yr old who doesn't nap and I don't think I'll have the energy in the evening.

Mrsrudolphduvall Wed 09-Jan-13 08:44:52

I've just done mine and am now enjoying porridge.

A question for you shred experts...once I have done the 30 days, is there another dvd to do?

beela Wed 09-Jan-13 12:27:43

I just shredded while my poorly 2yo watched a postman pat special on the laptop on the sofa - he would usually be running around causing havoc (well, actually we'd usually be out at our outdoor toddler group today) so I took the opportunity. Not sure if that makes me a bad mum or a dedicated exerciser?

I was doing L3 but I have started from the beginning with heavier weights and different bits ache now.

I spotted Natalie having a rest on the static lunges on L1 while Jillian was looking at Anita shock - so that's how she manages it without breaking a sweat.

mum2twoloudbabies Wed 09-Jan-13 12:34:28

grin I spotted that too beela and shock at L3, it makes me shake just thinking about it.

TooImmatureMincePies Wed 09-Jan-13 13:25:28

Mrsrudolph, I am by no means an expert, but you can either go back to beginning and just use heavier weights, like Beela, or try one of Jillian's other DVDs. She's got some called things like No More Trouble Zones or 6 Week 6 Pack, but I think they're all longer than the Shred. I like knowing that it will all be over in 20 minutes!

froufroulala Wed 09-Jan-13 17:02:52

The DVD arrived this morning. Although I haven't progressed beyond warm ups yet blush I have tried to improve my fitness in other ways so wish me luck I start properly tomorrow. And well done to you all, you inspire me.

IslaValargeone Wed 09-Jan-13 17:14:35

TooImmature I know what you mean about knowing it will be over in 20 minutes. It seems so much more manageable, although having said that I did find myself shouting "Thankyou Jesus" at the end of my first session!

Am away with work so have failed to do L1D2 so far. Sounds like a good excuse but if I were more dedicated I would be doing it in my hotel room! Have done plenty of walking though. I WILL do it tomorrow night!

LucyVFood Wed 09-Jan-13 18:45:19

Day three. I did it, but I was muttering 'Bitch' at Gillian under my breath, especially when she said she wanted my legs to burn angry

I was not in the mood for it today but since I had just bought an exercise mat it seemed a bit pathetic not to. So pleased I did it now .Level 1 day 6 over.

TooImmatureMincePies Wed 09-Jan-13 20:47:21

Arf at muttering 'Bitch' under your breath, Lucy! Yy, I don't want my legs to burn, thank you very much.

I don't ache as much today (Shredded three times in 4 days; haven't done it today yet but I WILL), although I did give myself a day off high heels too. 2 days running of heels after months and months of not wearing them = v sore feet! I'm going back on them tomorrow, though.

TooImmatureMincePies Wed 09-Jan-13 22:12:58

Have done it! <preens>

<collapses in sweaty heap>

I think I'm getting worse, not better! I seem to be able to do fewer press-ups now than I did on Day 1. I did phone it in a bit, though - maybe on my days off I should try to do it earlier in the day and not last thing when I'm already knackered.

Yoghurty Thu 10-Jan-13 07:26:14

Urgh. Well, I haven't shredded since Monday and this morning was day 3 of level 1. I shouldn't have taken a break- I found today harder than day 1! It was like I hadn't exercised at all!

If it's this hard, I really don't think I can do 30 days sad

At least I'm sticking to the LC bootcamp!

Ok.....just finished L1D1

<<falls over....throws up....dies >>

God that was really hard. I'm ok with the strength and abs exercise, it's the cardio that gets me. I get this allergic reaction when I overheat and have only recently been diagnosed and given meds for it, so I literally haven't done any cardio since cross country running at school.'s done now. It was made more amusing by my DD (2) running around me whilst I was doing the jumping jacks, flapping her arms up and down like me shouting "WIIIIINGS!!! WIIIIIINGS!!!"

froufroulala Thu 10-Jan-13 12:22:46

Finished my first proper attempt an hour ago. Have just recovered enough to post, after bringing back up my brekkie. Still its a start.......

Question for ladies who have been doing it a while, or who have done it before....

My arms and legs STILL feel like jelly after a few this normal? I can handle it, but was wondering if there's anything I can do to combat, what I would guess is, lactic acid build up. Do any foods help? I know when my DH works out he has to eat a lot of protein straight after, but that's to build mass obviously which isn't what I want to do.

mum2twoloudbabies Thu 10-Jan-13 17:52:38

Done it. L1 D6 took a break yesterday, big mistake. Really ached today but I've done it. managed to get much closer to Natalie so maybe at some point I will be able to move to level 2 shock.

Also first weigh in 6lbs in a week, amazing.

scarletlady02 you may need to stretch longer lots on here have found she does too few stretches at the end.

I might try that thanks....I'm REALLY starting to stiffen up now. It hurts so much <<cries>>

I WILL do it tomorrow though....I'm determined....

Toddle Thu 10-Jan-13 20:19:17

I still haven't shredded, Family turned up unannounced confused

I imagine it will be worse so late and after I've ate.

6lbs! That's amazing. Have you been doing anything else other then the shred?

TooImmatureMincePies Thu 10-Jan-13 21:11:45

I did it - L1D5!

LucyVFood Thu 10-Jan-13 21:21:25

I did day four. I had less stamina than day 2 or 3 and I haven't lost even half a pound sad

CrunchyFrog Thu 10-Jan-13 21:25:16

Have just done level one again - so twice in 3 days. I'm managing fairly easily in that I can do it with minimal "want to die," or more logical "want Jillian to die" feelings. But feel really shit afterwards.

I've been on steroids for asthma though, so I think my general levels of energy are poor.

I failed to fit it in today I was working flat out to get paperwork done all evening too. So I ended up 50calories over mfp allowance. L1D7 tomorrow no excuses.

Shodan Thu 10-Jan-13 22:40:23

L1D3 done today after a day's break due to insomnia and sheer wimpiness making me feel like it was too much to contemplate yesterday. Felt much more able to keep up though and positively springy afterwards!!

However I went to karate tonight as well so god knows how I'll feel tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed for a better night's sleep.

Day 3 of no smoking too! Huzzah.

cafecito Fri 11-Jan-13 01:21:47

L1D5(or 4? lost count) complete <collapses>

BunFagFreddie Fri 11-Jan-13 02:33:46

I had this idea about doing the shred twice a day. Anyway, after a few days I am very sore it hurts like buggery and having second thoughts. I just got to level 3 before Xmas, but had a break over the festive period. Doing it twice a day probably won't do any harm, will it?

If anyone wants to join me on a foolhardy twice a day shred, I'm game if you are.

Btw, not every single day, just 5 days a week.

Lavenderhoney Fri 11-Jan-13 03:22:38

Btw, " just 5 days a week" made me laugh.

Well I have let team shred down as I couldn't do it yesterday, had to wait in with workmen, take dc to unscheduled docs and I was in too much pain to do anything. ( if anyone knows anything about ovarian cysts please look on my thread on general health sorry I can't link on the iPad)

I hope I can do it today but I doubt it. Its agony and I was crawlingsad

For those of you who are looking for post shred DVDs she does " ripped" and 6 pack in six weeks, which I planned to do along side the shred, but now sadly might have to wait for the agony to stop. If I'm back I'll post.

BunFagFreddie Fri 11-Jan-13 03:40:48

Sorry to hear about the ovarian cysts. I hope you feel better soon. Are you getting decent pain relief from the GP? It sounds like you could do with some of the strong stuff. It doesn't matter if you miss the odd day, it's the overall picture that counts. smile

I like the short Gillian Michaels ones, because they fit into your day. Have you done ripped and 6 pack in 6 weeks before? Are they even more difficult than 30 day shred? I have killer buns and thighs on DVD, but it's longer and more evil than shred and I'm too scared to use it at the moment. I'm walking like John Wayne and I've disovered muscles that I never knew existed thanks to my "shred twice a day plan". I'm trying to shift Xmas poundage and I've stopped smoking. I'm hoping to replace smoking with exercise instead of comfort eating.

Hope the pain eases off Lavender.

I'm not doing it today, I've decided, I need a day of gentle stretches so I'll probably just do the warm up and cool down bits, and chuck in some yoga or callanetics.

I feel almost as fucked as I did after labour!

Hope you feel better soon Lavender x

And to anyone else that can shred every day after no exercise for're a braver woman than I grin

mum2twoloudbabies Fri 11-Jan-13 12:09:14

Toddle I am following the food doctor 30 day diet as well, it's not all down to the evil queen Jillian.

I am shredding later so long as it all goes to plan.

And twice a day must be sheer hell.

Mrsrobertduvall Fri 11-Jan-13 13:19:57

I am up to day seven of level one and ok so far.
I am getting sick of hearing "the neck doesn't come to the party"

I do feel full of sleeping better too.

beela Fri 11-Jan-13 13:21:12

Twice a day shock - you are a brave lady.

I didn't do it yesterday as I was too tired (poorly DS, no sleep), so I had a bath instead. I was planning to have Friday as my day off, but perhaps I'll make myself do it tonight...

Did a weigh-in on my wii fit board on Wednesday night, -1lb. Better than nothing, expecially considering all the Christmas chocolate I am still finishing off grin

BunFagFreddie Fri 11-Jan-13 13:29:15

Twice a day is a killer. I haven't been this stiff for years and had forgotten that being fit is actually quite painful. Easing off until next week seems like the wisest thing to do.

I'm going to just do it the once today. On the good side, that's bloody luxury now!

I weighed in this morning and I've lost 2lb.

I managed L1D7. I was procrastinatng and DS said pointedly " it is time for your exercises Mummy" so I had to do it! I confess t phoning it in a little and my neck did come to the party.

poohbearrules Fri 11-Jan-13 16:41:27

Hi ladies ! Can I ask a question? I haven't read all the thread so apologise if this has already been answered. I haven't exercised in probably 18months and do have problems with my Achilles and calf on one leg ( old age probably!) is the shred something a complete beginner can do or should I start with something a little gentler? Can't really incapacitate myself, I've got a 5 month old! Really really need to lose the baby weight though blush

BunFagFreddie Fri 11-Jan-13 17:10:38

There's a low impact version Poohbear. Try that and do some extra stretching. I have the same problem and I'm ok with it.

poohbearrules Fri 11-Jan-13 18:16:56

Thanks. What's the dvd called? Saw one one amazon for beginners but only plays on region 1 players. Don't want to get the wrong one and kill myself! Might need to unpack the box with my trainers in as well and dust the cobwebs off!

prettybird Fri 11-Jan-13 19:42:16

BunBagFreddie - I'm doing Ripped in 30 at the moment (got up to Level 3 before Christmas but I have started back on Level 1). I think it's harder than the Shred - I'm certainly stiffer when I start it again.

There are also a couple of exercises in Level 2 and Level 3 that I physically can't do (I have short arms) so I've had to work out my own alternatives.

I haven't dared look at Level 4 yet! grin

LucyVFood Fri 11-Jan-13 20:33:37

L1D5! I feel MUCH better than I did yesterday. It was okay! I didn't swear at Gillian and I did most of the stuff without stopping. Still no weight loss though sad

Toddle Fri 11-Jan-13 20:53:45

Woohoo! L1d7 complete. This is the first exercise I've done in about 3 years. I had ds 6 months ago and suffered horrendously with pgp couldn't even walk to the shops. I'm very impressed with myself for doing it for a whole week. Level 2 is getting too close for comfort though.

BunFagFreddie Fri 11-Jan-13 21:05:09

The 30 Day Shred DVD gives you lower impact options poohbear. You can do the more difficult ones if you want to.

prettybird I've heard people say some really good things about ripped. I'm going to try that after the shred so thanks. smile

Keep at it Lucy and Toddle. It really does get easier. I have lost 2 pounds since Xmas, but that's more to do with not stuffing my face and drinking every day. blush Fwiw I started the shred at the beginning of December and I only lost a couple of pounds by Christmas, but I lost inches which came back over Crimbo and then some.

prettybird Fri 11-Jan-13 21:31:41

Level 2 of The Shred is my least favourite one - especially Circuit 1. I hate all the mountain climbers and plank jacks in the aerobic bits and the Chair Squats with V raises.

I found Level 3 more copable with I'm not going to say easier wink

poohbearrules Fri 11-Jan-13 22:21:29

Thanks bunfagfreddie, I'm going to order it now. No time like the present! Got four weeks till christening, hope I can still walk and maybe half a stone lighter, or is that too optimistic?! You all give me hope!

Notfootball Fri 11-Jan-13 22:23:43

prettybird I'm with you on the v raises, my shoulders kill me and then she gives us some more plank moves! I'm on L2D9, cannot wait to say goodbye to level 2 after tomorrow.

BunFagFreddie Fri 11-Jan-13 22:40:22

No probs poohbear. I'm sure you'll notice the difference. smile

I'm with both of you prettybird and Notfootball. Level 2 is a killer and the V raises really hurt! Level 3 is definitely more copable with.

I'm still going to do the shred in the morning and evening, but I'm going to bring it down to alternating days. I might end up doing myself a wrongun otherwise.

When I'm feeling braver I'll try a bit of Ripped, 6 pack and killer buns and thighs.

cafecito Sat 12-Jan-13 00:40:30

L1D6 done! much easier today, probably because I just did it just now when I got home (I was veeeery cold) and my windows had been left open...and I actually wanted to jump around and warm up. try it at home - subzero temperatures!

cafecito Sat 12-Jan-13 00:41:50

NO to twice a day. Just NO grin but I am trying to do other stuff as well as shred (I need a rapid result to keep me going) today I walked 3km, wednesday I did shred + zumba (and could not walk the next day)

So....I managed to do L1D2 despite REALLY hurting still....I actually feel better after exercising. A bit wobbly but nowhere near as bad as the first day. Tomorrow will be the key, I'll see how I am then.

Mrsrobertduvall Sat 12-Jan-13 14:01:02

Did day eight this morning at 8am, and had brisk walk too.

I went for a brisk walk today as well....made my aches and pains MUCH better. I swear I was breathing better as well. There's a hill near us that normally gets me puffed out when I push the buggy up it. Seemed easier today.

LucyVFood Sat 12-Jan-13 19:55:11

Oh yeah! Day 6, bring it on!

I enjoyed it today! Reckon by the end of next week I'll be able to do it all the way through without substituting some slightly pathetic moves in places to give myself a five-second breather. I'm still easy girl though, not hard as nails Natalie.

I know that sounds a bit sad compared to some of you lot (TWICE a day!?!) but it's good for me, honest.

TooImmatureMincePies Sat 12-Jan-13 20:00:46

I didn't do it yesterday...I had a Friday feeling and just didn't want to. However, I have done it today, so L1D6 is down! Level 2 scares me - I've heard very bad things about it and I tried it once and it was hellish. I've blocked the details, though.

I still can't do real press-ups. I used to be able to, so why can't I now? I have a new rug and my hands seem to slide on it, but the carpet felt just as slippery. Must stop phoning it in mid-press-up! The rest of it is getting easier, but the press-ups are vile. I know Level 2 feature lots of plank-type thingies, so I need more arm strength!

L1d8 today and it felt ok and I even managed a couple of normal press ups not just the knee ones. I definitely need to buy proper weights as the water bottles are only 600g each and they feel too easy now so I have definitely improved since L1d1. I blew the mfp calorie allowance on 5 prosecco cocktails tonight and although I did dance a little it won't have compensated for them.

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 13-Jan-13 10:23:53

Despite getting in at midnight after much wine and pudding (!) I have done day nine.

Is anyone looking like Natalie yet?

You are all doin so well - I have been hopeless and only done it once this week. I am now at pil's house until tonight, but from tomorrow I will start again no excuses. Will start from day one again I think

LucyVFood Sun 13-Jan-13 19:18:02

shock After midnight Mrs? Wow, that's what I call dedication.

D7L1 gone. Get me exercising on a Sunday!

Lavenderhoney Sun 13-Jan-13 20:01:18

I'm going to get back on team shred tomorrow! Doc said no reason why I can't continue. However due to dh having to manage the dcs alonesmile which he did very well, I had 4.5 hours of housework this morning. Non stop! Everywhere was a mess, toys, clothes etc etc.

Still it's all lovely now. Looking forward to rolling my eyes at Gillian exhorting me to gruntsmile

A bit late, but I'm in.

I've been shredding since 1 Jan, just did L2D1 tonight (after having a break Friday and Saturday), but my knees are killing me! Does anyone else have that? Do you all have proper trainers or do you do it in bare feet?

Keep going, everyone! My legs turned to jelly the first few days, then it suddenly got easier.

prettybird Sun 13-Jan-13 20:47:47

You need to be careful in L2 on the lunges to think of your torso going up and down and rather forward and back. That way, you don't go over your knees and put pressure on them.

I actually prefer to do the Shred/Ripped in bare feet on a thick rug/carpet (and a sprung wooden floor) as I can then feel the "suspension"/absorption of the impact when I'm jumping as I land on my toes, through my foot and then bend my knees. I did ballet for moany years and that was what I was taught to do.

TooImmatureMincePies Sun 13-Jan-13 21:42:57

BabyLabyrinth, I tried it once (I mean, it was few months ago and I did about 5 days and then gave up) without trainers and it definitely made my knees sore. Doing it in trainers this time feels better. My floor is plywood over cement, with carpet and a rug covering the stains, so perhaps on a sprung floor it wouldn't have hurt. I was reading about barefoot running, hence why I tried it barefoot, but maybe you have to adjust to the barefoot thing first before trying to Shred!

Anyway, L1D7 is down!

<wonders what Natalie's tummy looks like> Anita's is quite scarily ripped!

Toddle Sun 13-Jan-13 23:48:04

Just done L1D8. I didn't do it yesterday and it was much harder after having a day off. Or I guess it could also be I've only just done it at 11pm when I usually do it at 11am grin.

My knees don't feel too bad. The right hand side of my left shin is really hurting though. Had a quick google and shin splints came up confused (as close to a confused looking face I could see). Ill ask dh in the morning.

I think I can see a little difference to my waist/under bra but that's about it. Dh said my bum is a bit firmer but probably wishes he didn't when I asked him if he was trying to imply it was saggy before. Is anyone seeing a difference on themselves or the scales?

BunFagFreddie Mon 14-Jan-13 00:44:53

I would love a stomach like Anita's, but I don't think it's going to happen unless I starve myself. No chance of that!

I did the first couple of days in bare feet, then switched to trainers (although they're not proper sports trainers, having never owned a pair of those!). I think I should invest in some though. I don't know how to do that type of soft landing in bare feet when I'm concentrating on not dying!!!

Maybe I wasn't focusing on my torso enough - it's hard the first time, I think, to get it completely right. I found I only got "good" at Level 1 after a few days, because I was able to remember how to do the exercises correctly straight away, instead of having to wait for Jillian's instructions (which annoyingly often come on the second round of each exercise ...)

Today I can barely walk, but not in a good muscle-jelly-leg-syndrome way ... More like knee-damage way sad I think I'll have a couple of days' rest before I try Level 2 again!

Toddle, I've lost just over 1 kg (of 4 kg to lose in total to get back to pre-baby weight), and I definitely feel like it's making a difference to my jelly belly core. I bet you've lost inches around your middle - did you do any before measurements? BunFag and TooImmature I would LOVE to have abs like Anita (or Natalie, I'm not fussy), but I agree, you need to diet at the same time ...

Mrsrobertduvall Mon 14-Jan-13 11:53:40

I have finished level one....looking forward to tomorrow, if only to hear a different commentary!

beela Mon 14-Jan-13 14:10:52

I think I'm starting to tone up a bit - woohoo! But I forgot to do any 'before' measurements so I can't prove it.

I got to L3 before Christmas, but only doing 2x per week. Then I went back to the beginning with heavier weights, but because I had done it before I got bored quickly. So I have invented Beela's 7 day shred:
2 days L1
2 days L2
2 days L3
1 day off grin
...begin again.

I'm on day 5 today. I quite like mixing it up a bit.

I've been doing it every other day but I did it today and am going to start doing it every day now as I'm past the initial "scarily stiff and unable to walk" phase.

I also invested in some weights today as I've been doing it with tins of beans grin

How student chic of me!

L1d9 done. I wimped out yesterday but today I put the effort in and I do feel ready for L2. Note my weights are too light and I still can only do a few full press-ups. I am doing the full Natalie for the other exercises though which I couldn't do when I started. My underbra strap is much looser however I haven't lost much weight but I only started mfp 6 days ago. Stricter dieting this week.

cafecito Tue 15-Jan-13 00:11:41

I've got a bit bored of the shred - I like beela's method. Anyway, I skived yesterday (did 2 hours of samba instead, so I think I can justify not shredding)- did yoga and zumba today but WILL now go and shred before I do anything else. Yes it's after midnight, yes I know I know, but if I don't do it I will quit altogether. Then I will only have 2 days L1 to go and onto L2.

I'm doing this instead of what I normally do (extreme pilates) so I don't really know if I will see a difference (but this is free and my pilates sessions are frightfully expensive, which I cannot justify right now).

However I did wake up today and had a much flatter tummy, so I am going to stick with the shred til end of L3 and see if it makes a difference.

Thank you all for keeping me motivated!

cafecito Tue 15-Jan-13 00:14:43

on my feet I wear trainers but not running trainers, more like crosstrainer shoes that I can be worn for dance etc. I have found, surprisingly, that wearing them makes my ankles and knees hurt a lot less (discovered this by nearly wrrecking my legs in a zumba class in air/gel running shoes) now wear my flat soled trainers to anything that makes me jump around, like kickboxing, or the shred.

BunFagFreddie Tue 15-Jan-13 04:37:06

I think I'm toning up, but haven't lost weigh because of quitting smoking.

What make are your trainers cafecito? I could do with a new pair.

beela Tue 15-Jan-13 08:25:23

Ugh, another 5.23am wake up call from 2yo DS ruined my plan for early morning shredding.

But I WILL shred later on, even though I am so tired I just want to lie on the sofa all day. Just had to tell someone, to make sure it happens grin

I usually shred barefoot but my feet keep slipping on the mountain climbers and I have to stop. I might try trainers today.

Woohoo!! First day of shredding with no rest day, so two days in a row. I'm pleased with myself! Was definitely more challenging with the weights but I managed it.

I do it barefoot as well as I only have skate trainers (not really appropriate).

Is it worth investing in a pair of trainers? I'm finding L1 fine with bare feet, but don't know about the later levels. I don't have much of a budget so some cheap recommendations would be appreciated.

L1d10 done ! now watching can see what i have to look forward to...

Mrsrobertduvall Tue 15-Jan-13 19:32:07

I am having a days break before L1 and L2 as I've been working all day and have just had sausage and mash.

I did do Pilates as well hesterday, so I feel a break is ok.

LucyVFood Tue 15-Jan-13 20:49:56

Is anyone not moving on from level one for a while? I don't feel there's any point until I can do L1 comfortably! I'm under no illusions about how 'ripped' I'm going to be at the end so just want to carry on till it's not challenging enough hmm

BunFagFreddie Tue 15-Jan-13 21:22:18

I did the same as you when I first started it Lucy. It took a while. I'm on about day 10 of L3 now, and I still haven't got my 6 pack. I'm more toned though.

Toddle Tue 15-Jan-13 22:23:58

Well here comes level 2 blush

I took it easier today as I was worried about my shin hurting again but it still hurts sad. I may try it with trainers tomorrow and see if that helps as I've been doing it on a hard floor.

I couldn't wear the waist belt I usually wear as I'd ran out of hole on the skinny end! I dug a old one out and it fits gringringrin

What size weights are you all using?

cafecito Tue 15-Jan-13 22:45:49

well I'm definitely flatter of abs than I was, and I think my bum is less hideous, and I'm only just coming to the end of L1! Maybe it's my magic mirror being nice to me ;) not smaller though, as trousers still too small hmm

bunfag I waled into a 'sporting feet' store and complained about my lack of zumba and bouncing ability in my shoes and they pulled out a pair by N balance that's being stopped but is excellent (but didn't have my size) and a pair by Asics, that do not look like they offer any cushioning at all but they really feel much better for indoor non-running activities, anything where you have to move your feet quite quickly- these in black/blue. But they're £20 cheaper in the asics store I went into and I think john lewis stock them (the bigger ones do anyway) and they come in half sizes. They are boring I guess but they withstand hours of dancing and jumping.

cafecito Tue 15-Jan-13 22:46:17

waled haha not wailed, walked... (though the former more apt.)

cafecito Tue 15-Jan-13 22:46:38

or whaled, even..

cafecito Tue 15-Jan-13 22:48:21

toddle I use 2kg weights which I find easy for everything, except for the lateral raises which KILL my arms with them

BunFagFreddie Tue 15-Jan-13 23:05:15

Thanks cafecito. My bum is less hideous too. I wasn't overweight when I started, but gravity has taken its toll over the years. I would like to lift my arse and flatten my tum! It is happening slowly.I use 2kg weights too.

Toddle, L2 is evil, but the plus side is that you'll be relieved and pleasantly surprised when you start L3.

retrocutie Wed 16-Jan-13 04:04:19

I have this and want to start, but I always seem to find excuses not to do it. At the moment, it's because I need to move the coffee table and it's too heavy... will make a mental note to ask DH to move it last thing tonight so that I can start Shred first thing tomorrow.

prettybird Wed 16-Jan-13 10:24:25

Just done Day 3 of Level 2 of Ripped. Really didn't want to do it (am coming down with a cold) but am pleased that I did. Felt like I was going to die in the plank jacks followed by mountain climbers in circuit 2 (with squat thrusts in the aerobic bit in circuit 2 shock) but got through them without going to the "easier version" ok, I did the mountain climbers and the squat thrusts slightly slower than they were doing them grin

I'm also on Boot Camp and I've lost 10 pounds since I started last MOnday shock I need to buy some new jeans and although my current jeans are a size 14 (and worn wearing through at the crotch something that never happened when I was slimmer blush) they have obviously stretched as when I tried on jeans just before Christmas (only slightly heavier than I am now), there was no way I could have bought a 14. sad

L2d1 done. I was useless and I feel dreadfully unfit!

prettybird Wed 16-Jan-13 11:39:26

L2 of the Shred is the worst one imho - so you've done well! It will get better! smile

TooImmatureMincePies Wed 16-Jan-13 17:31:09

I was v bad the last two days and skived off Shredding. I told myself I would get up early and do it this morning but then DD was up for an hour at 3 and I slept in as a result. I will do it tonight!

Mrsrobertduvall Wed 16-Jan-13 18:26:37 too.
I don't like L2 sad

on another note, I wish Jilliam would wear a sports bra.

I think I need a sports bra! When doing the butt kicks I have to hold my arms in a sort of weird boob cradle position to stop them bouncing too much.

Day off yesterday but by I wish I'd done it....I wasn't aching as badly as I'd convinced myself I was....

Did it today that's L1D5

Lavenderhoney Thu 17-Jan-13 15:07:55

Ok I'm backsmile dr says to its ok to exercise but he recommended I do Pilates and stretching. So I am going to stay on the thread for support to keep at it. I have to lose the weight round my tummy and hips, he said. So I have 2 weeks til my next appointmentsmile

I am skinner everywhere except there. He said after my cs's it will be harder due to muscle damage from the ops. He's such a ray of sunshinesmile

BunFagFreddie Thu 17-Jan-13 21:51:20

L2 of Shred is definitely the worst.

ScarletLady02, you do the shred without a ports bra?! shock You're a braver lady than I am!

cafecito Fri 18-Jan-13 00:48:16

Ladies, I have not shredded since Tuesday. [eek] I will shred tomorrow! double shred, even.. on the plus side I have done other stuff (circuits, dance, pilates...) but no shred, just can't face it any more! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah *first case of shred induced breakdown

anyone else play it but wear headphones with music to drown her out? I don't mute it totally because I still need to hear when I have to do things (don't always see the screen) but yeah, anyone who does not obliterate her voice after L1D2 is braver than I

I will start level 2 on Monday, have sunday off

Mrsrobertduvall Fri 18-Jan-13 07:55:23

Dh has decided to do it as well.
He is confidently doing L1 and saying "this is great".

He doesn't know what is awaiting him on L2.

I missed a day yesterday, but will be carrying on today. And it look as if I'll be in the house a lot this weekend, so will be shredding regularly!

I don't have one BunFagFreddie....think it might be an investment I need. I'm not massive in that department but still...

LavendarHony - have you looked into Callanetics? It's gentle stretches but AMAZING for strength and toning, I can send you links if you like. I do a lot of it on my non shred days

Toddle Fri 18-Jan-13 11:29:12

l2d3 today. I don't seem to be getting that I want to die feeling like I was expecting. I think there seems to be bigger pauses between changing over moves. I'm really struggling with these lunge backwards then forward things. Not physically I don't think, just the coordination grin

Wow very brave. I got a sports bra but was still holding them with one arm for skipping and jacks. I found a sports crop top bra type thing in primark the other day £4 and over the bra works wonders. I hope it's just because I'm still bf'ing ds they need this much support hmm

Toddle Fri 18-Jan-13 11:31:10

Yes cafe it's quite annoying having to listen to her again at the start of level 2 whereas before I just got on with it in front of the telly. On the bright side we have no more about the neck not being invited

I skipped it yesterday. Just done L2D2 and with the proper weights I bought yesterday (only 1kg but that is 400g more than the water bottles i was using up to now). I struggle with the plank squat thing and the plank jacks and the high knees and those side twist jumps and as for double jump rope just forget it! Very much with Anita apart from depth of lunges . Also I don't find L2 flows so well but perhaps when I am more familiar r with the exercises it will be better.

beela Fri 18-Jan-13 14:40:47

On the subject of sports bras, does anyone else think that Natalie has had a boob job?

Perhaps I should concentrate more on getting to the end of the exercise segment and less on what everyone else is doing (I am very easily distracted).

BunFagFreddie Fri 18-Jan-13 23:03:23

ScarletLady02 , I am well endowed, so the shred would get messy fast if I didn't wear one! The shock absorber sports bras are really good.

I've never really noticed Natalies boobs, but I'll have to check them out when do the shred in a bit. grin

I've noticed that the shred has got way easier, but I also thing that quitting smoking has made a huge difference. Before quitting I used to be coughing and wheezing and I'd feel like I was going to die.

Lavenderhoney Sat 19-Jan-13 12:03:42

Scarlettlady, I am doing the tummy callenetics from an old book I got off eBaysmile but please send me your links as any extra really helps. Will just doing the callenetics help get rid of my giant world class entry muffin top?

Can anyone post some motivating toning weight loss round tummy over the last week or so? I need a bit of direction and a big stick- am doing the ny low carb woe too, which I like, just need to get back into it. I have liked being off and have found time has expanded to fill my excerise time.

BunFagFreddie Sat 19-Jan-13 12:11:52

Jillian does an abs workout.

Mrsrobertduvall Sat 19-Jan-13 12:27:41

What weights are we all using?
I am on 2k....
Did day 3 level 2 and am having trouble with the last plank twisty things.

L2D3 done! getting easier, just. Only 1kg weights but I have always had strong legs and feeble arms.

Lavenderhoney Sat 19-Jan-13 16:49:37

Ok, had a burst of energy and did l1 and the 6p6w. Feel better already, am going to plan my week so I can find the time each day. It's very hard, and I don't feel like it at night by the time the dc are in bed and I have tidied I just want to lay downsmile
I use 1 kg weights, trainers and a really good sports bra, plus I wear gym gear, all alone in the bedroomsmile

cafecito Sun 20-Jan-13 00:48:51

Hmmm.. I still haven't shredded, not since Tuesday I think shock I'm terrible- motivate me! quick! I have 2 or 3 days of L1 left to do before I start L2.. think the monotony got to me. I know they're meant to be consecutive days but I'm not starting at the beginning again grin Now I've just quit. If I don't restart now I never will..

beela Sun 20-Jan-13 09:24:20

cafecito - DO IT NOW!!

If you are bored then challenge yourself by moving up to L2 wink

cafecito Sun 20-Jan-13 11:52:22

Hi beela- I needed that [sile] I'm so naughty I need a shouty voice. I will, I must do it today. Maybe even L2...! will update later..

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 20-Jan-13 11:55:10

Done L2 today, day 4.
I am getting better but still can't do planky abs twist so am doing crunchies instead.

Feeling nicely tingly.

Lavenderhoney Sun 20-Jan-13 12:05:42

Done mine for the day, shred and 6w6p- Just have the callenetics to do now. Im going to do l2 tomorrow. I am nt sure how I found the time, just ran for bedroom after shopping with dd, got changed and stuck on the iPad. She is quite helpful, counting my jumps etc.
I can do pressups! I wish I still couldn't they are horrible!

cafecito Sun 20-Jan-13 12:24:28

smile rather

cafecito Sun 20-Jan-13 12:26:31

wow lavender-! ok I can't do it now but will make sure I do it before bed. shred before bed. right. thank you for remotivating me!

tbh after only a week of doing it I noticed some difference, it seemed to work that fast at toning- right... remotivated.... will be back - have nice sundays everyone!

L2d4 done . DH helped DS (4.5) to make motivational banners. "go Mummy go", "Mummy we love you but go faster!" and "Mummy go ba-ba" Not sure about the meaning of the lastlast one. They were held aloft at strategic points and made me laugh at least!

LucyVFood Sun 20-Jan-13 17:49:53

I'm still doing level one but have only had one day off since we started, so feeling rather pleased with myself.

I actually kept up with most of it today too, and felt great when I'd finished. Don't think I'll ever be 'shredded', but so what!

Love the motivational banners Kitey, wonder if I can convince the kids to be cheerleaders or something?

Yoghurty Sun 20-Jan-13 17:54:10

<shamefully slopes back onto the thread>

Well, despite my good intentions, I didn't shred at all last week. No excuses, just lazy sad

I've stuck to the LC bootcamp and although my weigh in is not until the morning, I've already lost 8.5lbs in the last 2 weeks.

I do need to tone up thou and get back on the shred wagon. These abs don't come for free, ladies smile

Well done to everyone else who is doing so well x

DS responds well to rules and routine so as soon as i said I wanted to do my exercises every day he has been keen to remind me in a firm voice "Mummy you NEED to do your exercises now"! I find the cold motivates me too cos I k ow I will be warmed up afterwards and even more after a hot shower.

L2D5 done! Half way through. I am not losing masses of weight.although i am only reducing carbs and calories and not doing lowcarb bootcamp. I am definitely more toned esp shoulders and upper back so my bras fit better. I suspect I would need to shred for 6 months alongside dieting to really see a difference. I am definitely other due back at work until 4 Feb so the real test will be if I find the energy and time to continue the shred then.

Lavenderhoney Mon 21-Jan-13 18:04:47

L1 done. Will move on to l2 tomorrow. Did 6p6w as well but had to stop halfway through as dc were very bored and silly. Did callenetics after they went to bed. Doc called and left message whilst i was doing it, about pelvis and discs so will call him tomorrow and get the full story. Just in case i shouldn't be doing excerise DVD's.
Well done all those keeping going. I am slimmer everywhere I think except my tummy. I've just washed my jeans though, so it might be false hope they were a bit baggysmile

cafecito Mon 21-Jan-13 23:24:44

<tiptoes in> ok I still haven't done it, I'm a shred dropout- I'm doing crazy hours (currently sat in a hospital under strip lighting sneaking onto the computer in my break)- will re-join you lot when I get back into the shredding! I certainly saw a difference after only a week, and I must confess I miss it (my back aches now, I think it helps with that)

well done everyone! keep it up! (chuck some banners my way ;) )

L2D6 yay! Whoop! I confess I was dropping out a bit of the last circuit but better than nothing I suppose.

LucyVFood Tue 22-Jan-13 19:43:16

Hard work today. I wasn't feeling it. Not sure every day is sustainable to be honest sad

poohbearrules Wed 23-Jan-13 12:12:03

I'm seriously rubbish! DVD arrived but still in the wrapper blush. My current excuse is we've got builders in. Pathetic I know! Motivate me ... Please?!

prettybird Wed 23-Jan-13 13:02:38

Honest pooh - you'll feel better once you've done it, rather than having the DVD sitting there in its wrapper glaring at you! grin

I'm on Day 3 of Level 3 of Ripped in 30 - it's getting easier I'm just about able to do most of the exercises - at least, better than the first time I tried Level 3 before Christmas.

Once I've done Level 4 (ie after next week), I'll go back and do the Shred. It'll be interesting to see how well I do in the press-ups and the V-raises. I'll also think about buying the 6 Week 6 Pack.

Doing this in conjunction with Boot Camp has been great: I'm back in my Size 14 jeans (although not comfortably enough to go and buy a new pair yet even though I need to as one of the seams is going as I still wouldn't fit in to a new pair) and my stomach is definitely flatter (even dh is telling me so! grin)

Only another couple of pounds and I'll have lost a stone since we started! shock

Mrsrobertduvall Wed 23-Jan-13 20:41:17

L2 day 6 done.
My arms ache tonight..

Dh is doing well on L1.
He is looking forward to L2grin

Lavenderhoney Thu 24-Jan-13 09:39:20

I had a day off yesterday as I didn't feel very well and dd was very poorly indeed and needed me, she gets quite scared as she struggles to breathe unless on the nebuliser. Another chest infection I believe. Docs later to confirm.

Today back on it, but will do l1 as had the day off. Then 6p6w but the first part twice as I can't keep up on the 2nd circuit so it's demoralising and I give up. Have been doing calenetics as I go today.

Very pleased as in my other pair of fat jeans, which I couldn't get into at new year!smile

I have been trying to shred on and off through January. I have an event next Tuesday so I'm trying to make up for lost time by doing Level 3 Shred followed by Level 1 6W6P. I have a few days of work at the moment so have time to do it. Then will switch back to just shredding.

L2D7 done. I didn't manage it yesterday. it is getting easier. lavender hope your DD gets better soon.

Mrsrobertduvall Fri 25-Jan-13 07:09:12

Cat peed on the exercise mat yesterday sad so by the time I washed/disinfected and killed the cat, I was not in the mood!
But am going to do it now after my cup of tea.

L2d8 done. Looking forward to L3

Lavenderhoney Fri 25-Jan-13 18:33:10

Thanks kitey, she is ok now, it's a virus and she always goes down like a sak of spuds.

Mrsrobertduvall, that's awful! Is your cat normally attention seeking?

I did l2 today but was so puffed I didn't do6w6p aftersmile I did l1 yesterday and the 6p6w and it was ok, so def l2 a step up. Those horrible twisty jumps- hate them.

Dh kindly fed the dc whilst I did my thing. Ds asked if I was trying to be thinner and I said no my darling, I want to be fittersmile don't want him to start thinking that way.

L2d9 over. But last night's haggis weighed me down rather.

L2d10 done. I skipped yesterday because I didn't feel like it (my gran died at the weekend and I have ignored the diet for a couple of days). My weigh in was v disappointing this morning but I hope it is just water retention cos the a good reduction in body fat%.

Ponks Mon 28-Jan-13 22:38:43

Kitey - sorry to hear about your Gran. Don't beat yourself up about your weight or exercise when something like that happens. You need time to recover.

Thanks Ponks I appreciate it. It really brought home to me how much emotion and food are linked for me. I had an immediate urge to eat junk. I just baked a load of bran and malt loaves for the freezer which helped.

Ponks Tue 29-Jan-13 20:28:00

Oh god I am the same. When I am stressed or depressed I eat almost anything that's around. The loaves sound good!

I am due to do L3d3 today. I have lost 5lb since the start of January. Trying to stick to 1200 cals a day but actually eating an average of 1350 a day. The shred is definitely helping me tone up. Size 16 jeans discarded now and I am more comfortably in my size 14 jeans than when I was last this weight. Body fat has reduced by 1% according to the scales. Still 2 stone to lose though so I need to find a way to keep going over the next few months.

Ponks Fri 01-Feb-13 23:04:43

Fab news about the weight loss and toning up Kitey! Well done! Hope you are feeling ok.
I'm doing Shred 2 and starting to find it a bit easier - I have a lot of weight to lose too but finding the effects of the Shred are v motivating - great feeling when DH comments that I look a lot more toned.
