How about a lovely new thread where we can pat each other's backs and applaud the virtue of all the exercise we're going to do to get rid of the skinny fat, and just be stronger and fitter?

What are you going to do? I'm not a massive fan of Jillian, so I'm doing different Tracy Anderson DVDs. I just did the post pregnancy one and may need some the therapy it was so hard ;)

fruitnfibre Sun 02-Dec-12 11:25:20

I`d love to join you - my DS1 described my upper arms of feeling lovely and soft like JELLY last night!!!! I wear a small size 8 but am just bones and loose skin - not nice.
I hide myself in clothes, I would love to feel more confident with my body.
I tried Shred last year and loved it but it really hurt my knees - so gave up!!
I`ve got the 10 minute solution - Target Toning for beginners DVD, so planning doing that tomorrow and might add in a 30 minute very slow walk to the nursery with DS2 and a 15 minute power walk back.

gracelesslady Sun 02-Dec-12 11:32:07

Hurray! smile

AnnaFurLact1c Sun 02-Dec-12 12:06:50

Hello, I'm in!

Am 5 foot 4, 8 stone 13, BMI of 21, size 8 and I have zero core strength, no real muscle tone and I am untoned to the max.

Fruit - that describes me... I have loose skin and am skinny in parts. It's not great. I look fine in clothes however.

I have a kettle bell - might do something with that?

Shall we set some personal goals?

Unfortunately I have just had a car accident and have a broken nose so give me a few days! I shall blether on about my exercise plans on here in the meantime however.

gracelesslady Sun 02-Dec-12 13:00:44

Oh Anna! Belther as much as you need. Hope you heal quickly xx

gracelesslady Sun 02-Dec-12 13:09:55

That'll be blether.... X

kaumana Sun 02-Dec-12 14:12:02

Count me in too! Have been aiming to improve my overall tone for some time now.

I've been doing zumba, body pump and body attack once per week but think I need to do Body pump twice to really see a difference. Unfortunately I've pulled my achilles so may not get to any classes this week so will concentrate on doing some core conditioning at home and borrow DS hand weights which are 5kg each.

gracelesslady Mon 03-Dec-12 09:45:57

Kaumana hope the Achilles improves quickly xx

How's everyone else this fine freezing snowy morning? I got up at 6 and did the post pregnancy workout again, apart from the arms bit at the end because children were getting up by that bit. But to be honest, my arms were killing me from all the planks so I reckon they've had a decent workout anyway. I feel a bit stronger. I think this was the fourth time I've done it and I didn't swear at her as much today. Must be an improvement... Now, must not bask in my virtue and eat biscuits all day smile

Ephiny Mon 03-Dec-12 10:49:05

Thanks for starting the thread, what a great idea smile

I went for a swim yesterday, made me realise how out of shape I am. Only 10 lengths but it hurt, arms and legs were like jelly afterwards blush. I'm going to try to go weekly, and also start doing a mid-week gym session to do some resistance work.

AnnaFurLact1c Mon 03-Dec-12 11:33:35

Cold and bruised but raring to go! As soon as I feel better I am going for it... operation get fit!

How old is your baby grace?

gracelesslady Mon 03-Dec-12 12:27:32

Ahem... The, urm, baby is 3.... slinks off in 3 year post natal flabby shame

gracelesslady Mon 03-Dec-12 12:28:07

Ps ephiny, you're welcome smile

GordonIsAMor0n Mon 03-Dec-12 15:04:41

Pissing myself at ' post pregnancy workout '

I am Anna under another name change. I name change on a regular basis these days but am a very long standing poster.

gracelesslady Mon 03-Dec-12 15:29:57

gracelesslady Mon 03-Dec-12 16:24:43

Ok.... moving swiftly on from the very post natal state of my skinny fat body... Gordon, you were talking about personal goals. I am 5 ft 3 no idea what my weight body fat or bmi are but if I put batteries in the whizzy flashy scales I could find out. I don't really care how much I weigh but I guess body fat percentage could be a useful thing to know. I'd like not to have a muffin top. I'd like not to have the wodge of fat around my arse. I'd like to feel as confident out of clothes as I do in them.

I think if I do one of the DVDs I've got 4 or 5 times a week all those things I'd like might actually happen!

colette Mon 03-Dec-12 19:21:27

gracelesslady and all , I have been doing Tracey Anderson post-natal - it's really hard but really good.great for toning arms
My baby is ....... 9 !blush and I can't really describe myself as 'skinny fat' my bmi is 25 ish. Can I join anyway?

kaumana Mon 03-Dec-12 20:17:40

Thanks gracelesslady, don't think it's a bad one so will be ready to tone my butt shortly grin.

Out of interest has anyone done a pilates class at a a local gym? Worth doing so?

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea Mon 03-Dec-12 21:18:34

Can I join please?

I've done pilates kaumana, it's great for stretching, relaxing and stress relief IMO, and for starting to build core strength, but not great for really good strength or for weight loss.

Gracelesslady my baby is 5 today! blush Time to get serious about the belly fat now I think!

The only thing that has worked for me is weights - heavy ones, like kettle bells - combined with hard swimming sessions.

I go to an outdoor fitness session about once a week (sometimes more) which is a bit like British Military Fitness but with a lot less shouting.

My goal - to be strong! I'm not going to worry particularly about my weight, more about the weight that I can lift. E.g. I can swing a 14 kg kettle bell for a minute, I want to work up to a 16 kg.

Strong is the new skinny smile

kaumana Mon 03-Dec-12 21:49:23

Strong is what I'm aiming for too. grin]

gracelesslady Tue 04-Dec-12 09:37:14

Hello! Welcome to all the new folks! I've just got in from work, I'm hoping for a full two hours sleep so I'm not planning on doing any exercise today, other than staying vertical when required. Delight me with tales of kettle bells swung and press ups completed for when I wake up. Ta muchly xx

bluebird68 Tue 04-Dec-12 16:52:24

Hi all, wondered if someone had started a thread for this and very glad to see someone did. I got my DD to take my measurements on Sunday so i know my starting point. I'll follow the NO gym workout book for a few weeks and see how i get on (looks easy but it will get me back into the swing of doing strength training on a regular basis). I already walk very fast to work 3-4 times a week plus extra so have cardio covered. My goal is to lose at least 2 inches from my widest part and an inch from my waist and feel firmer by my birthday in 10.5 weeks time!

gracelesslady Tue 04-Dec-12 17:51:43

Oooh what's the no gym workout?? I like the sound of no gym.

Feel urgh. You know how I got up at 6 yesterday to do my exercise DVD? Well I've had about 3 hours sleep since then. I hate working shifts. I feel like I'm walking through treacle and looking after the kids is so difficult. Am going to have a glass of wine and an early night and hopefully do workout again in the morning. When I might feel like a person instead of a zombie...

Colete do you find that weird parts of your body hurt?? Like in the legs bit when you're kneeling on hands and knees, the leg I'm working hurts a bit, but it's the supporting one that really hurts sort of deep inside my bum muscle? (Or is this just me?!)

colette Tue 04-Dec-12 18:31:17

Re. pains in other places know what you mean , think she mentions the supporting leg might also hurt and that's good !
Good luck with your goal bluebird68.
Just done Davina power of 3 for a change and it felt quite easy confused am hoping its because TA is harder.

TalkinPeace2 Tue 04-Dec-12 18:34:22

Anybody with a Wii in the house, pick up a copy of Wii Fit and the board (very cheap second hand at cashconverters now) and work through all of the balance / yoga stuff : great for core

if you have a gym membership, have a look at BodyBalance - looks easy through the door. Is Not.

gracelesslady Tue 04-Dec-12 19:14:44

Colette I gave up on Davina! Compared to shredding, running and Tracy, I just found it time consuming and nowhere near challenging enough. Never did her power of 3 though and frankly, I think any kind of exercise is applause worthy. I'm drinking wine and eating crisps. Back to virtue tomorrow grin

colette Tue 04-Dec-12 19:25:08

that's probably why I found it so easy then ! enjoy the wine

Good tip about wii talkinpeace

bluebird68 Wed 05-Dec-12 12:41:18

thanks colette
well i power walked this morning and then did the home exercises which took no time at all.
this week its box press for upper body, crunches for middle, and lunge and kick for lower body. I managed 20 of each except lunge and kick so shall up the challenge on the first 2 and work towards 20 on the last.

i'm full of admiration for those who can do hard core stuff but its not for me, though i used to love outdoors running and some people hate that- that's something i'd like to start again.

my plan (as i want to write it down) is to continue with my power walks to work and back- i work either 3 or 4 days a week, and first thing in the morning to do the above mentioned exercises.

on non working days i'll do either outdoors running or DVDs that will help build muscle tone . I've ordered a new one today- Strong body, ageless body with Erin O'Brien , was almost £10 so better be good!!

gracelesslady Wed 05-Dec-12 13:53:50

Sounds like a fab plan bluebird. I've just done a mega walk for about an hour and a half, in snow, with a buggy with very little wheels. Properly hard work!!

Might do a Tracy DVD later if I recover sufficiently. How's everyone else getting on?

kaumana Wed 05-Dec-12 21:36:05

Great work ladies! Went to BodyPump tonight which was fab. Did the press ups on my knees to protect dodgy ankle but tried to put more effort into the abs to make up for it.

I also received a two week free pass for to the gym so have invited (Shanghaied) a friend to join me in my endeavours.

gracelesslady Wed 05-Dec-12 22:11:05

Kaumana (or anyone else who knows!) what's body pump?? Xx

TalkinPeace2 Wed 05-Dec-12 22:14:51

BodyPump is a Les Mills choreographed free weights class
deeply addictive and does a world of good with as little as 1kg weights on each end ....

gracelesslady Wed 05-Dec-12 22:25:14

That sounds hardcore and fab! I loved doing the shred (only real experience with using weights) but it really and truly did nothing to change my shape or sculpt anything. Was so disappointed after months and months of work to see no improvement. Makes me wary of doing anything like that again - any of you got any ideas why this happened to me?

TalkinPeace2 Wed 05-Dec-12 22:27:11

detailed technique matters - like holding elbows still for bicep and tricep work
also a teacher will egg you on to push yourself where a DVD cannot see what you are actually doing

kaumana Thu 06-Dec-12 07:24:46

I lurve Body Pump. I've not been doing it for long but am seeing the benefits already. I'm going to start doing it twice a week.

I have the shred dvd which is currently collecting dust on the shelf.. it is good but you don't have the motivation that a class gives you.

bluebird68 Thu 06-Dec-12 08:20:40

i did a body pump class pump at the gym a few times years ago- really enjoyed it! didnt go long enough to see any changes.

had a row with DP last night- well a disagreement but we don't row so i didn't like it. Told him of my exercise plans and he basically said it wouldn't be enough and if i was serious to go running- he's a running freak. I do like running but am postponing starting again- its been almost a year since i last went, and running won't help upper body. He doesn't have a problem with how i look at all , just doesn't have faith that doing exercises in your living room will help in any way at all. We did make up -in the nicest way possible later on.

Then stepped on scales to see body fat, sure enough its far higher than i'd like (24.5% today ,it does fluctuate slightly due to water in body but not by much) so my middle aged body is turning to fat and the muscle is dropping away. Makes me more motivated .

gracelesslady Thu 06-Dec-12 11:42:49

Sorry about the row bluebird. Running is brilliant but you're right - it only does legs bum and cardio! Probably fine if you're blessed with natural upper body strength and you've never had babies to ruin your abs wink

I've just done the TA post pregnancy DVD and managed to do about 5 of the double leg raise pikes with a weight. Feel hugely chuffed but bit knackered. There is absolutely no way I could have done that workout in the first year after I had my kids. It's so hard. Still, despite people's reservations about the limits of getting fit in your living room, I think this might do it. Need to check my body fat and everything. Will try and remember in the morning.

TalkinPeace2 Thu 06-Dec-12 15:01:04

point out to your dh that variety is king
I swim miles, do pump, yoga, pilates, balance, walking
but can run less than 50 yards due to old injuries

kaumana Thu 06-Dec-12 22:19:51

Bluebird- glad you made up with your DP grin.

In the interest of variety, I did a Zumba class tonight, good fun and I did work up a sweat. I used to love running but my knees can't take it anymore and as Gracelesslady has said it doesn't help with upper body strength.

Graceless- Of course you can become fit without the need for gym membership! My motivation however, is sadly lacking hence plenty of fitness DVDs on the shelf. I need someone to shout at me! Well done for today!

gracelesslady Thu 06-Dec-12 22:50:05

Thanks kaumana - let's shout at each other! I planned to get up this morning and do my DVD before the kids got up but the alarm went off at 6 and I just couldn't get up. Hence doing my exercise at 11am with a 3 year old lying on me and I Can Cook on in the background... I WILL get up early tomorrow!! grin

kaumana Fri 07-Dec-12 13:43:23

Graceless - I just pictured you bench pressing your 3 year old, that would definitely work out your chest and arms. Oh, and drop and give me 20!

gracelesslady Fri 07-Dec-12 19:49:58

Oh the shame... I'm wearing a hair shirt and considering self flaggellation for I have done no exercise today. Unless getting children to and from school over sheet ice counts?!

Stupidly busy day, at work tomorrow.... I really and totally promise I'll do something on Sunday. I should have got up at 6 today but body not willing and I am weak..

slinks off hiding face in mortification

gracelesslady Fri 07-Dec-12 19:51:12

Ps kaumana, thanks for the shouting! Do you respond better to yelling or cajoling?

kaumana Fri 07-Dec-12 22:20:51

Yelling works for me otherwise I try to get away with the least effort <tad lazy emoticon>

I should wear a hair shirt too as have done bugger all today as well. However, trying to walk over sheet ice surely counts as ice skating, so don't feel too bad. smile

gracelesslady Sat 08-Dec-12 07:06:24

Ok - batteries in the scales... I weigh 8 st 8 and a half and my body fat is 26% and I'm 5 foot 3. 26 seems a lot??? I'm off to work.... Happy Saturday everyone smile

bluebird68 Sat 08-Dec-12 12:50:44

you're similar to me graceless. I'm 5.2 weight 8.10 and body fat is 24.5%
i'm a couple of pounds over my usual weight and would like to tone up, drop my body fat and increase my muscle. My cousin is my inspiration she is only a few pounds less than me (same height exactly) but her body is so different.
anyway new DVD came today but busy with family stuff today so tomorrow it will be. Oh and those exercises i did the other day? wow i ached the next two days. This morning i was late for an appointment and ended up running half the way (in my coat with bag flapping behind me). was hard but enjoyable, must do again but properly next time!

and no one should feel too bad about skipping a day of exercise, our bodies need to rest too and if there isn't time then there isn't time , as long as over the week you're doing more then that's the main thing and just build on that.

bluebird68 Sat 08-Dec-12 12:52:40

i should say my cousin exercises loads and has a very toned body for a woman in her mid 30s. she is a fair bit younger than me but i don't see age as an excuse , just means you have to work harder and maybe eat bit less than before.

TalkinPeace2 Sat 08-Dec-12 19:45:56

PLEASE do not rely on "body fat scales"
I had my body fat measured as part of a cohort research medical study - full body bone scan thingy
with a BMI of 23 it put my body fat at 24% ....

work on 'pinch an inch' - far more reliable

shithappensx1000 Sat 08-Dec-12 21:03:10

Hello, please may I join. Not really trying to lose weight, currently 5'6" 9st 2lbs. Size 8/10. But I have been trying to tone up and get fit for the past few months. At the moment, I'm doing 3 or 4 runs a week and swimming once a week. When the weather is better I also cycle.

bluebird68 Sat 08-Dec-12 21:08:33

that sounds about right though. my BMI is around 22 and my body fat 24% (roughly).
It got down to 19% when i dropped a few pounds and i was happier. I prefer body fat measurement than BMI as it says more, scales don't reveal full story and BMI is just based on that weight and height. I can definitely pinch more than an inch on almost every bit of my body, several inches in places...

I think going by how your clothes fit - especially those without lycra- (which has a lot to answer for) is probably the best gauge.

gracelesslady Sun 09-Dec-12 15:54:05

Hi shithappens!

Talkinpeace... Sorry for being dim but I'm not sure what you mean. Is the body fat to bmi not what you'd expect? I think having more than a quarter of my body as fat seems like a lot but then I know women need fat just to function, and we have less muscle than men.... No idea really what it ought to be confused

TalkinPeace2 Sun 09-Dec-12 16:06:48

the scales do not measure WHERE the fat is, nor are they accurate - within 5%
the nurses on my cohort study think that should be banned!

pinch an inch
I'm 47, 5'5""
can still pinch an inch on my tummy and back of hips - nowhere lese
BUT unless you can pull a hollow under your ribs, you carry too much visceral fat ...

thebluenailbrush Sun 09-Dec-12 16:25:02

i've name changed- i often do. I like the american council on exercise's chart on fat levels as you can define which category you go into. Even when i was only 19% fat i still felt flabby and needed to tone up. I was slim though- undoubtedly so, but far from emaciated as i was well within the healthy BMI for my height.

According to a chart i saw today, although my waist size is fine for my height ideally it should be smaller. Nurse i saw recently for a health check said it was envious but at 26.5 inches and a height of only 5.2 doesn't feel envious to me. I guess we all know when we feel ok about ourselves and letting things slide too much is IMHO dangerous.

the top link is interesting as it shows a young man's body change as he starts lifting weights, the final stage is most impressive, he loses virtually no more weight but drops body fat and looks so different. Wonder if there is a woman's story out there?

janglebells2013 Sun 09-Dec-12 16:33:30

i done part of a dance dvd today. i wish i could get motivated to do the hardcore jillian dvd i have so i could get properly toned and feel like id done something. but i enjoy the dance one, at at least im moving! hopefully once i learn the moves properly itl be more of a work out.

gracelesslady Sun 09-Dec-12 16:34:36

I can pinch a LOT of inches.... Having done some reading it seems hardcore cardio plus serious weight lifting is the way forwards but like I said previously I did the shred for a few months and it did nothing! I was a bit anaemic and my diet wasn't brilliant (not terrible either, but not perfect) so maybe this was why?

I run quite a bit but not since the summer cos I had a hip injury. It's still tender now sad

shithappensx1000 Sun 09-Dec-12 22:16:07

My scales often say error when working out my body fat, but is usually 24-26%
So how do I tone my arms and inner thighs?
Legs, bum and stomach are not bad from all the running (and bit of swimming and cycling) I do.

gracelesslady Mon 10-Dec-12 09:32:26

TA PP done. And did 10 double leg/with weight proper pikes. Ta da!!

Hope everyone else is having a cheerfully exercisey Monday x

kaumana Mon 10-Dec-12 10:45:39

Morning all! Feeling a bit stiff today as upped my weights on squats and lunges at a class last night. Going to the gym tonight to try out the Powerplate, will try out the different exercises on it and report back.

Shit - have you tried tricep dips, push ups etc?

gracelesslady Mon 10-Dec-12 23:34:30

I've been to yoga tonight - lots of Ashtanga style sun salutations and many planks... My poor tummy is wondering what's happened to it!!

shit you could try Tracy Andersons mat workout / it's about 5 or 6 pounds on amazon and has the toughest arm workout ever. It looks so easy but is SO difficult and really great for strengthening your arms without lifting weights. It's only about 8 minutes long for the arm section of the workout. Yoga's pretty good too. I like it cos it complements running really well, stretching out everything that gets tight with running, and there's plenty of postures that use your arms supporting your body weight which is good for keeping them toned and strong. HTH xx

thebluenailbrush Tue 11-Dec-12 08:53:09

graceless thanks for the DVD recommendation but according to amazon uk, its not yet released

is this the right one??

gracelesslady Tue 11-Dec-12 12:54:00

I don't know!!! The mat workout I have is the one with a pinkish cover, the one at the top of the list if you put "Tracy Anderson mat" into amazon. That looks like the US version. Or maybe she's releasing a new DVD?

TalkinPeace2 Tue 11-Dec-12 13:08:59

new BodyBalance routine rolling out across the UK at the moment - a good time to start as even the experts will not know the routine so EVERYBODY will be getting it wrong!

kaumana Tue 11-Dec-12 16:59:00

Never got a shot on the Powerplate as everyone in the gym was looking for a shot, ended up doing another Body Pump class as everything else was fully booked. I thought it would be really hard as I had done the same class the day before but strangely not so much. Hmmm..May have to really rethink the weights I'm doing.

All the Les Mills classes will be starting new routines shortly, (in my gym after the new year) which inc Body Pump, Sh'bam, Body Balance etc which does make it a good time to start.

TalkinPeace2 Tue 11-Dec-12 17:31:12

pump two days in a row - you'll hurt tomorrow afternoon ....

kaumana Tue 11-Dec-12 17:45:24

As you've said, I've been hurting all day, god knows the pain I'll feel tomorrow!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea Tue 11-Dec-12 20:38:30

I have been hiding because I have not been exercising blush and feeling ashamed at my lack of effort in comparison to the rest of you.

But, did an outdoor exercise class on the beach tonight. Consisted of:

Warm up stretches.

20 press ups, 20 high knee jumps.

Rugby-type drill, one person holds pad and braces, the other person drives with their shoulder up and down the beach while the first person tries to stop them (exhausting and kills your quads).

20 double kettle bell presses - with 2 x 10 kg bells (i.e. kettle bells from the ground, lifted and pressed above your head.

20 lunges while holding 2 x 10 kg - interspersed with single kettle bell presses.

35 more press ups, 35 sit ups - both using a bench to hang off for extra pain.

50 metre bear crawl.

200 metre sprint.

Warm down stretches.

I'm knackered but happy smile

gracelesslady Tue 11-Dec-12 21:07:54

unexpected..... ow. And kudos. Do you live somewhere other than the uk? There's nothing that could persuade me to exercise on a beach today wink

gracelesslady Tue 11-Dec-12 21:08:57

kaumana kudos to you too. Stretch woman, stretch!!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea Tue 11-Dec-12 21:14:00

graceless - no, unfortunately, it was bloody freezing! And dark. grin

Although it's all very zen stretching while listening to the waves.

Not so zen shaking the sand out of your pants after someones barrelled into you on the beach!

gracelesslady Tue 11-Dec-12 22:48:32

Ok double kudos then unexpected and grin at sand in your pants!!

gracelesslady Wed 12-Dec-12 18:00:55

Have done bits of TA PP. kept having to stop to attend to kids tea which was cooking. Still, feel proud that I perservered and did a bit of everything (tummy, legs/bum and arms)

Everyone ok?

colette Wed 12-Dec-12 20:56:34

Must get back to TA, am impressed with everyone especially exercising on the beachgrin

kaumana Wed 12-Dec-12 22:40:17

Thanks Graceless have done my stretching..ouch

Wow, impressed Unexpected! Wish I had a beach nearby but would want it somewhere warmer smile

gracelesslady Fri 14-Dec-12 16:47:38

Hello folks, how are your Fridays going? I was out of the house from 7am till 10ish pm yesterday, so didn't do any exercise, funnily enough.

Today have had a bit of a full on with the kids and the house, should do a Tracy DVD but can feel an evening of beer and telly beckoning. Is anyone else being virtuous?!

TalkinPeace2 Fri 14-Dec-12 16:53:42

Mile swim, hour of Yoga, hour of BodyBalance
ready for wine tonight.

kaumana Fri 14-Dec-12 17:14:53

I'm getting ready to head out to a Christmas party so does shaking my thing tonight count as exercise? I shall also be doing repetitive arm raises too grin

gracelesslady Fri 14-Dec-12 17:21:49

Talkinpeace, you need that wine. I am overawed.

Kaumana - wish I was coming with you!! Sounds like the best kind of fun grin

rubydoobydoo Fri 14-Dec-12 23:13:32

hi - mind if I join you? smile

I am 5'3", a size 8-10 (an 8 in Asda, a 10 in Top Shop!), I run about 20 miles per week (I've been slipping a bit lately and getting demotivated with the dark nights but have just about got back up to 20 miles per week again and am already feeling better for it!).

As someone said earlier on this thread, running only really tones your thighs and bum - and although I have great thighs and bum I still have lumpy bits in the middle!

I've decided to do something about it and I've enlisted a personal trainer. I had my assessment yesterday and apparently I have great BMI (and "a lovely pulse"...?), good weight and I impressed him with my cardio on the treadmill - I am 31% fat shock
(I am aware that this figure is probably exaggerated slightly to make me think that I DEFINITELY need a personal trainer!)

Anyway - i've booked a circuit class tomorrow, and have a session in the gym with my personal trainer on Tuesday to hopefully whip me into shape - or at least point me inthe right direction!

gracelesslady Sat 15-Dec-12 07:12:40

Hop on board! And if the personal trainer gets your body fat down, tell us step by step what he/she told you to do!

I did my body fat again the other day and it was 27%. I know scales aren't accurate but they can give a trend, and that trend's going in the wrong direction!!!

Happy de-skinny fatting Saturday everyone grin

rubydoobydoo Sat 15-Dec-12 15:02:44

Just back from my circuit class - that was EVIL! I was crawling between exercises by the end and wasn't the only one.
I think I'm really going to feel that by the time I stop trembling! I've booked it again for next week, anything that hurts that much must be doing SOMETHING! grin

gracelesslady Sun 16-Dec-12 22:43:24

How you doing ruby? Hope you're not too sore. Working all weekend and start nights tomorrow so my exercise has been limited to remaining vertical when required wink

rubydoobydoo Mon 17-Dec-12 17:24:03

My abs hurt! I really didn't feel like I was crunching much but I must have been! Thankfully I can now lift my arms up past shoulder height again - just about!!

I hope the personal trainer goes easy on me tomorrow....

kaumana Fri 21-Dec-12 18:12:50

I'm still here! but have been sadly lacking .... I've ordered new gym gear which should motivate me.

ruby Well done!

gracelesslady Fri 21-Dec-12 18:24:19

I'm still here too but shamefully have done no exercise in a formal sense, all week. Too bloody busy with work kids and Christmas

Am I a bad woman if I just leave it till after the big day?!

rubydoobydoo Sat 29-Dec-12 23:20:49

OK, too much Baileys and chocolate over the past week - it's time to start getting fit again!
My first personal training session was great fun - he had me doing boxing, and although it hurt for a good two days afterwards it felt like a great workout.

The second one wasn't so great - we have a problem loud neighbour who'd kept me up most of the night before, had work all day, and I was sooo knackered I'd just lost all my stamina . I was OK on the treadmill, running seems to come as second nature now - but the second he put me on a spinning bike I was dying and kept having to stop cos I was feeling sick! Luckily my trainer was nice about it and cut the session short for me - I have the second half of it tomorrow lunchtime!

I've got three more sessions as Crimbo presents - DP put a disclaimer in with my card saying it's cos I enjoy it not cos he thinks I'm fat!!! (good man grin )

IslaValargeone Sun 30-Dec-12 10:45:41

Can I join in?
I got some kettlebells for Christmas, have no idea what to do with them but will be starting on Jan 1st.

rubydoobydoo Sun 30-Dec-12 16:33:01

Hi Isla and welcome!

My trainer handed me a kettlebell today and I had to sort of lie down and twist from side to side with it. I had to do lunges with one in each hand at circuit class too. I think their sole purpose is to make exercises harder than they already are!

I finally had a good workout today - off for a run later too to get rid of the christmas pud! grin

IslaValargeone Sun 30-Dec-12 16:56:11

Oh ruby you are very dedicated.
I'm so shockingly unfit and weedy I'm quite intimidated at the thought of starting anything, but I am desperate to have less goosh on my lower half.
I will be taking some measurements to check my progress.

kaumana Mon 31-Dec-12 18:56:53

Got new gym gear so am good to go in a few days.

gracelesslady Mon 14-Jan-13 22:06:59

Hello!!! I had to really hunt to find this thread.

I've done some exercise. Not loads, and I did say some bad words. But I did it. Am proud.

How are you lot doing? Xx

sweetkitty Mon 14-Jan-13 22:18:42

Hi can I join too? I've done 10 days of the Shred (second time doing it) but for various reasons haven't shredded in 3 days, will start again tomorrow.

I'm 5ft 4, about 8st 10lbs size 8, I carry all my excess weight on my bum and hips, saddlebags ahoy! No core or upper body strength, hate running, never really exercised before. I want to tone up and get fitter.

gracelesslady Mon 14-Jan-13 22:26:42

Hurray! (For the joining not the saddlebags though yours can keep mine company!)

Well done on the shredding. I did it 2 years ago and it's properly hardcore. So kudos to you xx

rubydoobydoo Tue 15-Jan-13 12:39:25

I have my last session with my trainer today - I can't afford any more sad

He's going to do me a plan to follow by myself though smile

He's had me doing a lot of boxing, which I really enjoy - so I've talked DP into letting me get a punch bag when we move! (It turns out he's wanted one for ages anyway but thought I'd say no hehe!) I've also been to a couple more circuit classes which are starting to hurt less so something must be going right. I daren't measure my fat again just yet (I was really cold last night so had to get some more Baileys to warm me up!)

I've still been running too, I did a very cold 6 miles on Sunday.

gracelesslady Tue 15-Jan-13 14:06:15

Ruby, boxing sounds awesome. I could do with punching something today. Going to make do with swearing at Tracy Anderson later!

gracelesslady Tue 15-Jan-13 23:09:15

I did the arms bit of the mat workout. Every part of each arm was crying by the end. It is SO hard!!! Will be worth it though when the bingo wings disappear grin

choceyes Wed 16-Jan-13 10:10:40

Can I join in too?

I'm a size 8, 5'2 and 7st 7lbs. My arms and legs are fine, it's just my middle I have to work at. I've had two pregnancies and 2 c-sections close together so my abs are shot! My body fat is 27.1% as measured by a home machine, so I doubt it is very accurate. Although it made sense for DH, 16% body fat, which is normal for a very fit bloke which is what my DH is (road cycles 1.5hrs a day and plays squash a couple of times a week too).

I'm doing Zumba 3 times a week as I really enjoy it. I'm going to do some MuTu ab excercises to help reduce the mummy tummy. And do the Shred maybe 3 days a week. A big challange, but I am sick of the fat around my middle, and it's not healthy either. I look 5 months pregnant especially by the end of the day.

I'm also cutting down on sugar (just had a Shapers choc bar blush) and wheat do help get rid of tummy bload. I don't miss not eating wheat though, that's not the difficult bit. but I'm struggling with the sugar!

kaumana Wed 16-Jan-13 23:12:54

I'm back! Have been sadly lacking in effort over the hols but now I have my new gear I've been motivated.

Started back at the gym last week, combo of weight and cardio training and have been in a world of pain, serves me right for doing nothing.

Going to try and do more body pump to tone up arms, core etc and I'm pondering pilates but as I do body balance, should I bother hmm

Have noticed a bit of toning happening especially round my tum, yay! so keep witb it ladies.

gracelesslady Wed 16-Jan-13 23:18:57

Welcome aboard choceyes! And hurray for the toning kaumana xx

I have done sod all exercise today, but my arms are still sore from
yesterday so presumably my muscles are doing something even when I'm not!

gracelesslady Thu 17-Jan-13 18:16:49

Mat workout done!! grin

kaumana Thu 17-Jan-13 19:29:42

Body Balance done!

gracelesslady Thu 17-Jan-13 20:07:49

gracelesslady Fri 18-Jan-13 21:52:30

Tracy Anderson post pregnancy abs arms and bum - done! (Having a beer now. Ssshhhh.... don't tell Tracy...)

kaumana Fri 18-Jan-13 22:24:37

Well done, Graceless, I'm having a glass ( bottle) of wine post planking grin

rubydoobydoo Sat 19-Jan-13 19:48:56

I've been to the later circuit class today (I was too hungover tired for the 2pm one but there was a free slot on the 5pm one so I booked that instead.)

It was with a different trainer and I don't think he was as good as the one who does the earlier class so I need to behave and have an early night next Friday! grin

As an added bonus the gym was very quiet at that time, so after the class I thought I'd have a go on the machines - and I've now worked out all the ones I need for the training plan my PT did for me! I also did day one of the programme - only without the treadmill as I'm going for a run tomorrow if the pavements aren't too icy. If they are, I can always go back to the gym and use the treadmill - I just find it a bit boring running on the spot.

Well done everyone!

kaumana Thu 24-Jan-13 22:08:19

Hello all!

So far this week I've done Zumba, Body Pump and Body Balance and have booked in for a training programme on Monday for the gym, god help me..

I have noticed a definite change in my shape, so am motivated to keep going + purchases in the sales of gym gear make me feel better.

Well done Ruby!

Stick with it ladies

rubydoobydoo Sat 26-Jan-13 12:52:18

I'm awake enough and booked onto the 2pm circuit class this week! smile

I've also done the first week of my programme - on the last day it involved 20mins on a thing that looked likean escalator going backwards, I did 100 flights of stairs on it! It looks so easy when other people are on it - it's NOT! I even did the spinning bike part. I HATE spinning.

Good going kaumana - DP says I feel firmer to touch now so my programme must be working! My clothes feel looser too. I think I need some more gym clothes, I just either wear my running stuff or throw jogging bottoms and a t-shirt on at the moment.

gracelesslady Sun 03-Feb-13 10:04:20

Hello???? Anybody there?? Hope you're all to busy exchanging body fat for muscle to report back!

Started the 30 day shred yesterday. I love Tracy but it takes so fecking long to do her DVDs and then you still need to do cardio afterwards. Loving getting everything done and dusted in half an hour. Will see how the knees get on with it this time - did it about 18 months ago and having previously had no bother with them, the complained vigorously about it.

Felt ok, hard but ok, yesterday so maybe I'm just that bit stronger and more capable this time.

kaumana Mon 04-Feb-13 21:36:10

I'm here! [ waves at Graceless]. I have the shred not done it in ages though but remember my knees hurting.

On that note did a cardio tennis class on Friday and my knees and calves are still hurting!

I have got definite tone in my arms now, still got some work to do on the bum and tum. Was due to do a class tonight but a snowstorm hit so have ended up watching tv while gazing at the yoga mat. {newly bought} feeling guilty .

gracelesslady Tue 05-Feb-13 00:49:12

Hi kaumana!! Snow's a reasonable excuse I think!

Third day of level 1 done. I love Jillian. She's awesome grin

rubydoobydoo Sat 09-Feb-13 15:40:06

I'm still here too! smile

I'm not fitting ALL of my training programme into a week as it's 3 days a week, but I'm letting myself off cos I go running some nights too! Just started week 3, and my arms are definitely looking more toned, and I can sort of see my abs slightly so long as I'm lying down and stretched out a bit!

I just had my best workout yet at the gym - I have no idea where my energy came from. I got there early for the cicuit class so did 20 mins on the treadmill (with some hill sprints too!) - did the circuit class which didn't hurt as much as normal so what I'm doing must be working - then did the strength training bit of my progamme afterwards. I have a feeling I'm going to hurt everywhere tomorrow!

Well done gracelesslady and kaumana - I can't do workout DVDs as our house is too small - I tried Insanity last year and kept knocking the lightshade off and falling over the sofa! grin

proseccoco Fri 30-May-14 08:17:25

Bad form, I know, but this old thread is perfect for me.

I'm 5'10 and a size 10-12 with a bmi of 19.5. I don't want to lose much more weight, but I have a pregnant-looking tummy and flabby upper arms. I'm going to try and do Body Balance, Body Pump and one run each week - am usually v exercise-averse so this will be a right miracle.
Right, will RTFT and hopefully get some tips.
