thatlldopigthatlldo Mon 17-Sep-12 11:38:27

I'm in. New to the thread.

Groovee Mon 17-Sep-12 06:25:13

Well done on all those losses.

Sorry about your foot Cinnamon

I weighed in at Euston station yesterday on the most wobbly scales ever. I'd gained 4lb and dh had gained 5lb. We'll weigh in on Saturday next week as away again for a wedding.

I agree with Cinnamon. I think the scales are wrong. You need to stay with the same set of scales.

PurpleGeekyGirl Mon 17-Sep-12 12:30:19

I'm in and new to the thread too. Am purplebeetlebug on MFP if you want to link up smile goal is to drop 4kgs before conceiving. However given I bake for a living it's not proving easy confused

Newbies feel free to add me, same name as on here smile

Groovee Mon 17-Sep-12 21:34:49

Hiya Grooveecar from MFP xx

Yay new people already smile welcome!!

My piece of news is that I've been to hospital and have managed to break 3 metatarsals, bugger!! angry sad

jchocchip Mon 17-Sep-12 22:07:58

Bugger!! sad Hmmmm it did sound like you had DONE SOMETHING to your foot. What's the prognosis? How long to heal?

No idea, I have a temporary cast until Thursday when I go to the fracture clinic when thy will decide what to do with me and put a more permenant cast on with a boot so I can hopefully walk rather than now where I have crutches. Dh is an expert in bone breakage so he's already telling me what he thinks and to ignore the drs hmm

omletta Tue 18-Sep-12 06:51:06

I'm cornwall1234 on MFP, feel free to add me if im not added already.
I've not been very good at logging things recently and haven't been very active as I've been having a childcare crisis and a drop in motivation, but I am going to get back to it. MFP is fab.

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 18-Sep-12 07:35:16

I would like to join please and will add people if I may, thanks grin

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 18-Sep-12 07:40:08

ChicMama25 Tue 18-Sep-12 07:40:39

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 18-Sep-12 07:54:27

OK I know I'm talking to myself but I've figured it out now blush

tiggy114 Tue 18-Sep-12 08:08:27

Oh cinnamon what a pita, hope you are on the mend soon

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 18-Sep-12 11:31:21

I joined MFP 18 months ago, then didn't use it. I put in 1500cal/day at that time, can't remember why that figure. Anyway I can't find anywhere on the site to change it or to find out how many cals/day I should be having, can anyone advise, thanks grin

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 18-Sep-12 11:32:14

Oh and off to bed as I'm Down Undah. Hope to read some messages tomorrow morning.

MammaTo2boys Tue 18-Sep-12 11:40:21

Hello Can I join the thread. Had DS2, 3 months ago and have a lot of weight to lose and I enjoy baking too much and of course eating lots of it, esp when I was pregnant.
I have already been using MFP, I was 12st exactly after giving birth ad I've now dropped to 10st 13lbs with the help of MFP and running, but sometimes need support not to go off the rails, nearly on a daily basis blush.

Happy to meet you all smile

Groovee Tue 18-Sep-12 13:28:54

Just replying to cinnamon from the last thread. We normally weigh in at Boots near home but were in London so we thought we'd weigh in. We were both very doubtful of the weights given as the machine wouldn't stop wobbling.

Will weigh in usual place on Saturday instead this week and see how we fare.

Emandlu Tue 18-Sep-12 13:30:40

Hello, glad I found you all on the new thread!

I've not been doing MFP over the last 2 weeks as we went on holiday but I only put on 1lb while we were away so I'm dead chuffed and I'm back on MFP properly now.

Groovee Tue 18-Sep-12 13:31:15

Well done Em x

Kaloobear Tue 18-Sep-12 19:45:17

Hiya, I'm Chadpie on MFP-please add me if you'd like smile signed up ages ago, decided to do WW instead and have now started MFP properly for maintenance purposes. I lost 5st between November and June and am very, very keen not to put it back on!

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 18-Sep-12 20:29:01

Can anyone answer my question in my previous post? Thanks

Hermione go onto 'goals' it will be at the top above the status update bit when you are on 'my home'.
When you click on it it will give you the choice of guided or custom, custom you make it up yourself, guided it does it for you which I prefer smile

jchocchip Tue 18-Sep-12 21:45:38

Hi
HHH go to settings then update diet/fitness profile and put in sedentary and lose 1lb a week to start and see what number it works out for you!

omletta Tue 18-Sep-12 21:49:44

Kaloobear - 5st in 8 months OMG!

HermioneHatesHoovering Wed 19-Sep-12 01:58:01

Thanks grin

Kaloobear Wed 19-Sep-12 12:29:39

It was a lot faster than I expected it omletta!

Kaloobear Wed 19-Sep-12 15:06:07

How do you find people by username? The only way I can see is to send an email to friends, but I don't want to do that, I just want to find some of you!

Kaloobear Wed 19-Sep-12 15:09:27

Ah never mind, found it!

Kaloobear i',m power1969 if you want to add me.

DeeJoyHoy on MFP

11lb off so far. Having a very bad week though.

I have been using MFP but am worried if I added you lot, you'd be able to see how much I weigh!
Can friends on the app see how much each other weighs?

No mygirl, just how much we lose.

Only weightloss is visible to others even friends mygirllollipop so don't worry. Even if it was were all here for the same reasons and no one would judge smile

readyforno2 Wed 19-Sep-12 20:25:23

My mfp name is nicolemarie1503
I need a kick up the arse now and again. Lost 11 pounds so far but got 3 stone to go (at least).

ihatethecold Wed 19-Sep-12 21:44:40

Fab. New thread. I'm on mfp as pinkjan4288 if any newbies want to add me grin

I've upped my cals from 1200 as I wasnt losing at all even though I've lost inches through exercise.
I always eat back my exercise cals but I've decided to eat a bit more

I think because I don't have much to lose my bod will want to hold on to it!

jchocchip Wed 19-Sep-12 21:46:48

Far too much comfort chocolate eating today, think I am going to have a rough few days. Will be ok next week. Will just have to run a very long way to run it off...

readyforno2 Wed 19-Sep-12 22:10:36

How do you change your cal intake? I'm pretty new to it and also how do I factor in breastfeeding now? It used to be in the food bit but now comes up with n/a..
Had a really bad day today, totally pigged out. Need to get more self control

I don't know how to do it manually but if you change your desired weightloss or activity level it will change. On my phone app breastfeeding is still under food, just tried it and you can go into the meal you like and search breastfeeding.

readyforno2 Wed 19-Sep-12 22:22:37

Yeah it's still there but doesn't take the calories off anymore iyswim?
Ok thanks I thought maybe there was a manual way of changing it. I only ever use the app so thought it might have been through the website or something.
Thanks anyway.

smirnie Thu 20-Sep-12 07:41:37

Can anyone help me with a question? I logged on to the website for the first time to change my username to the same as on here. Since then every time I open the app I have to sign in with my password. I can't see a box to tick to 'save password'. It's not the end of the world, just annoying when I'm in a rush!

Sparklingbrook Thu 20-Sep-12 09:59:16

Hello all. I am on Day 2 <excited> New to MFP but really like the look of it.

Haven't had a good look at it all yet, but I think I can do it. I am coming off some tablets that made me put on weight so I think it's now or never.

If that's the case, I will add those of you who have posted your name.
Have just moved and the kids are in school so really going to push the weight loss. Have a number in mind for a 'big' birthday at the end of the year.

Another one here who can't see how to add people by username ...........

tethersend Thu 20-Sep-12 11:13:10

Can I join in?

Have lost 6 kilos in six weeks with MFP and want to keep going!

The calorie allowances for exercise seem overly generous though... Can you alter these?

Sorry smirnie, no idea why that has happened I never have to do it, have you tried settings?

Welcome Sparklingbrook and tethersend! Yes you can adjust the calories when you add the exercise the curser is next to the time, just click next to the calories and you can delete them and type in whatever you like smile

Been out today to hospital and then shops as well as school for the first time this week. Crutches are bloomin hard work and I've been sweating big style but they also hurt my hands sad

smirnie Thu 20-Sep-12 16:40:15

Yes, Cinnamongreyhound, I've looked everywhere. Seems strange it's only been since I logged on the website

EightToSixer Thu 20-Sep-12 16:45:32

Oooh, I'm on a new thread. I was just clicking through to read from my last post and I'm here. Well done cinnamon, hope the foot gets better very soon.

I'm wonderboy74 on MFP for anyone yet to add me smile

ChookKeeper Thu 20-Sep-12 19:50:49

Here you all are!

Sorry to hear you're having such a rubbish time cinnamon hope you're not stuck in a pot for too long.

Weigh day for me today and another 2lbs gone, making 24lbs in 8 weeks grin. I'd really like to have lost 3 stone by Christmas.

Anyone else got a Christmas goal?

Sparklingbrook Thu 20-Sep-12 19:59:03

This is going to sound daft but I just can't bring myself to get on the scales but have started anyway.

I have trousers that I would like to fit into. Can I just see how that goes rather than get the scales out? I really can't face it.

GeekLove Thu 20-Sep-12 21:14:05

Still holding steady under 10st 7! My weight tends to fluctuate over the month and is currently at 10st 4. Slow and steady does it but then I am attempting to cut out sugar, eat more protien and do Jillian Micheals 4 days a week.

smirnie Thu 20-Sep-12 22:05:25

Sparklingbrook, could you measure your waist instead? There is an option on the app to put waist measurements in.

ChookKeeper

I'm also aiming for 3 stone for christmas (that be half way then). But I've also said to DH that I won't be logging during christmas/new year week as I want to enjoy it and not be thinking about not eating things IYKWIM.

readyforno2 Fri 21-Sep-12 09:31:46

I'm 11lbs down so far. Haven't lost this week though sad
Hoping for at least another stone by Christmas. I'd go for three but don't want to disappoint myself.

Sparklingbrook Fri 21-Sep-12 09:35:39

Yes thanks smirnie I think I would feel better doing that. I nearly got the scales out this morning but thought better of it.

nearly 3lb off this week, hooray!!!!!

ChookKeeper Fri 21-Sep-12 19:40:26

I would urge everyone to measure themselves. It's too easy to think your body shape isn't changing but seeing the measurements is a real boost.

When I started I knew I was really 'in the zone' to commit to this for the long haul. The first week I not only weighed myself but also had my photo taken front, side and back and took measurements of my neck, bust, waist, hips, each thigh, calf and upper arm.

The plan is to measure at the point of each stone lost. By the time I'd lost the first stone I'd also lost 11 inches including 1 inch from my neck grin. 4lbs to go until the next measuring session.

I really don't want to get to goal and regret not seeing how I looked at my heaviest.

ChookKeeper Fri 21-Sep-12 19:41:01

Well done KatieScarlett that's great.

Sparklingbrook Fri 21-Sep-12 21:56:39

How important is the fat/carb/protein thing? ie to keep within the limits. I have gone over by 2 in the protein today.

exercisejunkie Sat 22-Sep-12 10:59:31

Hi All,

I stuck to my guns and didn't weight until i'd done a full month and i've lost 7lbs so pretty pleased.

one issue i've had is that i keep having dizzy spells and find I have to eat pretty much every 2 hrs, I'm trying to stick to low GI snacks so my day generally looks like:

breakfast: natures plus protein shake (i'm dairy and gluten intolerant and many gluten free cereals are very high sugar and fat so this works for me)

snack: oakcakes or a banana

lunch: tuna or turkey salad sandwich on GF bread with an apple and some unsalted nuts and seeds.

snack: banana or oakcakes depending on what I had earlier!

dinner: could be anything, fish, chicken, GF pasta, rice noodles stirfrys, shepherds pie,

i've also given up my fizzy drink habit and severely limited my haribo habit both have def helped!

That's a great weight loss Exercisejunkie, I would suggest checking your hydration and iron for dizzy spells. I have been lightheaded for a large part of my life but I do have low blood pressure. I went to give blood earlier in the year and was sent away as Hb too low. Have been taken iron supplements since and it does significantly reduce my dizziness smile

claretandamberforever Sat 22-Sep-12 15:03:43

Hi, new Mumsnet user. I'm on MFP but my name on there is bantamgirl75 if anyone wants to add me.....I registered for it yonks ago but only started using it recently. I've been on a VLCD and now have switched to JUDDD

ihatethecold Sat 22-Sep-12 20:14:35

Sparklingbrook.
My protein is always over and my carbs are always under.
I have no idea whether it matters or not grin

Sparklingbrook Sat 22-Sep-12 20:18:19

Oh that's ok then ihate. I am just concentrating on the calories for now. Day 4 today, and I can't believe I am sticking to it. grin

PunkInDublic Sat 22-Sep-12 20:52:40

I am loving myfitnesspal! Thank you to everyone on this thread and old ones for pointing me in the right direction.

I'm eating out of boredom and depression (no job, alone in a new place) and I've put on two stone in 8 weeks. Today was my first day, I'm full, I've came in under my calories and I've measured my belly and and various other places so I can watch them shrink back down.

Does anyone else have evening hunger? I've had good meals, snacks and water and I still want to pick.

readyforno2 Sat 22-Sep-12 23:58:42

Nights/evenings are the worst for me. That and a lack of self control grin
Frozen grapes are very good though. Really sweet and take ages to eat so you don't eat as many

PunkInDublic Sun 23-Sep-12 01:02:04

Frozen grapes sound good. I used to use them for teething pain for DS. Low cal tonic water with lime got me through tonight, poured into champers flute and pretended was bubbly.

hurricanewyn Sun 23-Sep-12 07:06:39

Frozen banana is another good one - it mashes up still when it's frozen & is like a creamy icecream.

Yes to evening pickings, mainly through habit and boredom.

So I do sewing either embrioderies or at the moment I'm making one similar to this. Because I've found if my hands are busy then I don't pick.

tiggy114 Sun 23-Sep-12 09:06:09

I use mfp on my phone in an app. Does anyone know how i find out exactly how much i weighed at my last weigh in? I found the graph under progress but it doesn't give an exact weight, only the line iyswin.

PunkInDublic Sun 23-Sep-12 09:56:18

Sounds fab Hurricane, something DS would enjoy too so could do as a pudding we could all have instead of me having different.

readyforno2 Sun 23-Sep-12 10:14:45

Frozen banana does sound good, will need to give it a try. Thanks!

hurricanewyn Sun 23-Sep-12 14:26:31

tiggy - if you go to reecord todays weight it'll still have wgat you put last.

PunkInDublic Sun 23-Sep-12 16:20:55

Does everyone weigh in everyday? I know I'm lighter than yesterday but I assumed that's a water loss. Haven't recorded it.

readyforno2 Sun 23-Sep-12 18:07:49

I only weigh once a week, at the same time/day each week. It's difficult not to weigh every day though

I was terrible in the evenings but I don't think it's hunger more habit/boredom/tiredness. I bought small things to eat in the evening to satisfy the cravings but also low calorie hot chocolate or just hot water helped me feel full and give me something to do and I think will power has a lot to do with it too, you need to decide that you'd rather lose weight then nibble in the evenings (I know easier said than done!). Once you stop though it becomes easier. I also found going for a run in the evening meant I didn't want to eat when I got back.

My last weight is at the end of the line on my app tiggy114.

PunkInDublic I weigh every day most of the time but now I've been maintaining a while I find the urge to weigh as often has reduced! When I went on holiday I couldn't weigh and found that I managed to maintain without seeing my weight every day which reassured me that I was making the right choice whether I knew my weight or not.

Made Lorraine Pascales peanut butter squares today, they have 375 calories per square which is scarily high!! I cut mine into 25 instead of 16 which took it down to 240 but I think I will still have to give them away to stop me picking! Dc will help I'm sure. Shouldn't have been surprised considering the ingredients were butter, sugar, peanut butter, digestive biscuits and chocolate! Reeeeeaaaaaalllllllllyyyyy tasty though wink

OnlyWantsOne Mon 24-Sep-12 14:44:20

You lot - please add me
onlywantsone

I need some support and motivation!!'

Sparklingbrook Mon 24-Sep-12 14:56:50

I have to go out for a pub lunch tomorrow. It's too early in the regime for me. Any suggestions? It's a Hungry Horse. I was thinking Baked Spud with beans?

Sparkling

If you put in hungry horse in MFP they have lists of their dinners so you can work out the calories before you go.

Sparklingbrook Mon 24-Sep-12 15:15:12

Ooh do they where thank you for that. My first meal out on day 6-not ideal. And I know my friend will be all 'is that all you are having'. sad

I really must have a look at more of the site than my daily food habits.

I always look when I'm going out because then I can adjust my calories/exercise intake for the rest of the day.

Sparklingbrook Mon 24-Sep-12 17:07:46

I am going to get my 3 mile brisk walk in first where and earn some calories back. I can't believe I have nearly done a week, and it's going really well.

OnlyWantsOne Mon 24-Sep-12 17:15:35

I am very hungry sad

Day 1 and I have zilch idea what to eat for dinner. Any suggestions?

Doesn't help that it's pissing it down with rain!

nimbs Mon 24-Sep-12 17:22:18

yay 6lbs gone - hopefully for good ;) Has taken 6 weeks though - a long old slog, hopefully will get back into the swing of things again.

Quick question for those who have lost weight - do you have any friends who say that you've lost too much/must stop now etc? I am finally in the normal range for my height - and am definately nowhere near the minimum limit so am not underweight (by any stretch of the imagination) but I keep getting comments like that. I can only think that it's because they have only known me as much larger than I am now slimmer it looks odd?

As a teenager/young 20s, when I met my DH I weighed less than I do now - definately didn't get any comments then? If you have had stuff like this how have you fielded the comments, it's beginning to annoy me as I still have a little way to go so not sure how much more I can suffer them!!

Anyway - hope everyone else is getting on ok - am sat watching Gordon Ramsey bake cakes - maybe not the best when am tryikng to cut back!!

Sparklingbrook Mon 24-Sep-12 17:42:48

I have the nibbles but I am distracting myself. The DC are having Pizza and chips before footy training and it smells fab. This is the point I usually hoover up what they leave.

I am having a baked potato with Tuna and a huge salad-much later.

Hungry horse have some lighter options which have the calories next to them, I had the blackened tuna and jacket when I went there a while ago Sparklingbrook, good luck!!

Onlywantsone, I have the same dinners I always had just smaller! Any lean meat will allow you to eat more or fish, jacket/ new potatoes are good if you can have them without butter and lots of veg! I also have spag Bol, curry, roasts, fajitas just can't have as much, check out calories on the fajita dinner kit before you eat them- it doesn't include the chicken or peppers!

I have the same problem nimbs have lost 5 1/2 st so do look a lot different, it's just that I had a small frame under all that blubber so I'm not really that thin. I think people get used to you as you say and you just look skinnier than a person who's been that weight for ages. My bmi is now 22 so in the middle, I could be a stone and half lighter before I get into too light but I think that would be too light for me. I have been told off by a couple and told you're not losing anymore are you?!?! by lots of others. Dh reckons its jealousy but I'm not the synical. He says they like having a fat friend who they always think they look better than and now I'm thinner than them. I like to think if they're real friends they wouldn't have that attitude but maybe I'm naive!

nimbs Mon 24-Sep-12 20:23:06

Thanks Cinnamon - hoping that it's not jealousy - and unlikely as they are all very slim/toned but more that they can't see me as I am now without remembering how I was iyswim? It's just rather annoying! I get the you're not losing anymore - or oh my god you've lost sooooo much weight (cheers for that confused - will just let it go!

I never get any comment, except for dh and mil. My mum lives a distance away and doesnt see me often, so really should notice the difference, same as sis but neither comment.
It is really disheartening tbh.

Oh should mention I have lost 28lbs, so 2 st, which I think is more than enough for a comment or two hmm grin

nimbs Mon 24-Sep-12 20:50:29

That's frustrating monster esp. after 2 stones!! Even a - wow you're looking well - would be good!! Has made me slightly paranoid at how fat everyone knew thought I was!

I think the baggy clothes must of hid my fat well grin

Have you got clothes that fit now MonsterBookOfTysons? Boo to your mum and sister!

I always think that nimbs! Everyone comments when you're getting thinner but no one says 'wow you're piling on the lbs, better get some control!' I have a friend who is naturally very thin and people ALWAYS comment on her size, she finds it really upsetting as lot of the comments involve suggestions she's anorexic. She always says why is it ok to comment on a thin person but not a fat person. I know if someone had said something about me being too fat I'd have been gutted but I may not have spent so much of my life as big and it doesn't mean I don't get hurt by the 'too skinny' comments I get!

OnlyWantsOne Mon 24-Sep-12 21:52:46

I have no clothes. Sob

RGPargy Tue 25-Sep-12 07:56:24

Oooh hello!! I thought it had gone a bit quiet! I didn't know there was a new thread!! grin

Cinnamon do you have a recipe? I am following one from the allrecipes website but if you have a better one I will happily try it out!!

RGPargy Tue 25-Sep-12 07:57:44

Ps - i like the look of the mobile site. Seems easier to use than the app!

I don't know if it's a better one but it's easy and tasty smile. It's an american recipe so uses oil rather than butter but it makes it very moist. It's quite a runny mixture too so be careful if you're using loose bottom tins!

Carrot Cake

175g Plain Flour
2 teaspoons Bicarbonate of Soda
1 teaspoon Salt
300g Sugar
2 heaped teaspoons Cinnamon
240ml Sunflower oil
2 large Carrots (peeled and grated)
4 Eggs

Sift flour, bicarb., salt, sugar and cinnamon into a bowl. Add oil and mix well. Add eggs and blend together. Add carrots and stir well. Bake at 180C; middle shelf in an 8” cake tin for 45-60 mins. Leave to cool.

225g Icing sugar
6 triangles Laughing cow cheese (approx. 100g any cream cheese)
1 teaspoon Vanilla essence

Sift icing sugar into a bowl add the cheese and vanilla and mix well until it is well blended with no lumps. Spread over the cooled cake.

RGPargy Tue 25-Sep-12 09:05:51

Wow thanx for that! It's pretty much identical to the one I have! Fab! Will set to work after breakfast!

Cinnamon yes I have 10 jeans and some 10 tops. I did it for me really so I will get over it grin
Hi RGPargy, nice to see you grin
I want a calorie and fat free baileys cake, i think i may be dreaming grin

lisbapalea Tue 25-Sep-12 09:54:15

Morning everyone - am loving the carrot cake recipe but think I need to hold off as my weigh in today tells me I have gained a pound.

I have gone off the boil with mfp and need to get back on it, as I was feeling so good about myself. We keep having friends over for dinner / lunch at the weekend so I cook lardy delicious food and seem to think that it doesn't count if it's the weekend, or if I am eating with lots of other people! Hmmm, not sure my logic is quite right!

I don't think it's meant as a mfp recipe lisbapalea, it was from a question about RGPargy's baking for others from the old thread smile Try dishing up a smaller portion so you can keep the calories low and still eat the nice food.

Just wondered if you were drowning your new svelt figure in too big clothes that was stopping others from noticing MonsterBookOfTysons smile

RGPargy Tue 25-Sep-12 14:07:19

Arse. My carrot cake sunk in the middle sad I checked it after the specified time but it was nowhere near ready so back in for another 10 mins (twice) by which time my oven opening had made it sink. Oh well, thankfully no one is paying me for it and it is just as a favour for a gym friend! They should be grateful for anything they get! lol wink

Well done on the size 10, Monster!! That's fabulous! grin

RGPargy Tue 25-Sep-12 14:07:44

Oh and it's deffo not an MFP recipe!

OnlyWantsOne Tue 25-Sep-12 15:19:34

Having an Indian take away tonight with a friend. What should I order etc to not through me off?

I have 1000 calories left today - but I may have a cuppa and a biscuit before then!!!

Have just pushed phil and teds round the block taking 1/2 hour at fast pace. What do you think that burns off?

Sparklingbrook Tue 25-Sep-12 15:23:48

Isn't it best to go for dry indian stuff, and steer clear of the sauces?

readyforno2 Tue 25-Sep-12 19:11:00

I could never have an Indian. Korma is my curry of choice and I can't have an Indian without having loads of naan bread and onion bajis (sp)
Well done on the size 10!! That's what I'm aiming for. 14/16 just now.

HermioneHatesHoovering Tue 25-Sep-12 23:27:54

I'm having curry tonight! grin Chicken Tikka Masala. Have done some googling and it seems to be 1300 cals with the rice shock 'Tis OK though as have a 2000 deficit from last week so fingers crossed it will be OK confused

RGPargy Wed 26-Sep-12 06:36:51

I love curry but have to admit we have it so often in this house I am a little bored of it!! shock

Hermione

DH says the Hairy dieters ones (korma/jafrazzi) are nice. I've made then for him as I don't like them.

Sparklingbrook Wed 26-Sep-12 06:51:23

Well I weighed myself. sad There are 11 more pounds of me than I had guessed. Even more to lose. Gutted. sad

RGPargy Wed 26-Sep-12 08:18:36

I have a great recipe for a low cal and low fat diet. In fact, with cauli-rice too the whole thing is about 350 cals per portion and is very scrummy!!

OnlyWantsOne Wed 26-Sep-12 09:34:14

Who oooo I've lost 4lb

Well done OnlyWantsOne, what did you have in the end? I was going to say something that I say quite often so I didn't say it again. I genuinely believe that you can eat what you want if you just cut down on portions. Share a rice with someone else, don't eat lots of side dishes and have lean meat in the curry. I always have vegetable dishes when I go, not for calories but because I prefer them and I feel it's a bit more authentic. We were planning to take the boys to an indian restuarant for the first time as they all love curry at home but that will have to wait now as I'm loosing so much income with my broken foot!

Sorry you feel sad about that Sparklingbrook but it just means you have a new starting point and nothing else. It might make your journey slightly longer but you can do it and don't let it knock you off course and stop your good work.

Sorry to have led you astray RGPargy, perhaps my oven is a bit warmer or my tin is wider than the recipe says so cooks quicker!

Sparklingbrook Wed 26-Sep-12 10:06:51

Thanks cinnamon. I have been on MFP for a week so thank goodness I didn't weigh last week. sad

I am even more determined now. At least I can be sure that's the heaviest I will be. Looking forward to next Wednesday to see some progress.

PunkInDublic Wed 26-Sep-12 10:46:50

Hi, I've added OnlyWantsOne on my MFP but I'm PunkInDublic on there too if anyone wants to add me.

RGPargy Wed 26-Sep-12 14:44:34

Cinnamon - oh don't be silly, it's completely not your fault! I know that everyone's ovens are different. Mine can be a little temperamental so it's all a learning curve for me and my oven grin

bexsybooboo Wed 26-Sep-12 22:11:01

blush waves hoping she may be remembered a little wink and welcome back?!

cinnamon thank you for message smile

I am hoping to get back in to MFP from Monday.

Sadly I have had a rough couple of long months.

Started with work related stress but am thinking that was a distraction and currently I have asked my oh to leave was a hard decision to make but sadly it had to happen for my emotional wellbeing and for us to try and be happy for our children, but yep not going as planned sad and is very up and down at home whilst he is still living here.

I have managed, not sure how but to maintain my previous weight loss of 3 stone but still have 3 to go.

I need to start running again to help with my mind set and for a chance to breathe on a evening even just for 30mins.

Am aiming small to start with and hope to lose 1 stone before the 14th December blush

Well I am going to aim to read new part 5 thread ready for my logging on Monday smile

Hope it was tasty anyway RGPargy!

I have been to hospital today and had my cast off. I've got a boot with a huge heel so I can't walk on the broken part but its more of a shuffle than a walk! I have no cast and the boot is removable so it means I can have a shower and may be able to swim if I can figure out the logistics of getting in the pool! X-ray in two weeks and then fingers crossed I can walk properly smile. Then I'll start thinking about running, obviously after talking to dr.

X-posts bexsybooboo!! So glad to see you again and sorry to hear your news. It's never easy to make a decision like that and I hope that it becomes easier as time goes on and then life will be better for you in tw long term. Well done for maintaining through all of that too! You will definitely be remembered by most and supported by all when you Ome back Monday smile

bexsybooboo Wed 26-Sep-12 22:25:18

Thank you cinnamon smile

Will be up to date on thread and MFP by Monday wink

Tobermory Wed 26-Sep-12 22:29:03

Hello everyone.....can I join?

I found MFP a few months ago and have lost 4.6 kg since end of April. I had the summer holidays off, prob not my best idea and gained some of what I lost.
But back on the wagon, I weigh less now than I've weighed in years though do have a scary number of kgs to lose.

So, how do I stay focused?
Any tips?

readyforno2 Thu 27-Sep-12 00:26:57

Has anyone downloaded the virtual gastric band app? Am considering it but don't want to waste the money if it's not any good.

Stropzilla Thu 27-Sep-12 14:53:57

Just discovered MFP, am jumping on the bandwagon! Also starting Slimming World Tuesday, so I'm going to use MFP for extra support and ideas. I'm on as Sherija so please add me if you can, I haven't worked that feature out yet.

I'm 15.5 stone, and have had a horrible pregnancy and recovery which is my excuse and it's staying that way, but it's time to grab the blubber by the love handles and throw it out!

monstersX2 Thu 27-Sep-12 17:34:11

Can i join too please, started reading this just over a week ago and started mfp straight away. Have lost 5lbs so far. Just wondering if you all eat your exercise calories or if you try and stay within your food calories? Well done everyone, you've been an inspiration to me!

RGPargy Thu 27-Sep-12 19:23:09

Welcome back bexsy and welcome to all the newbies! Feel free to add me - same name as here.

The carrot cake was yummy cinnamon. I made it for my friend at the gym so a few of us had a slice while we were there (it would have been rude not to!) but I made her take the rest home lol.

Glad to head that your foot is slowly on the mend now too. I bet you cannot wait to get back in it!!

Hi Newbie mfper's feel free to add me, same name as on here!

Welcome Tobermory, Stropzilla and monstersX2! I personally rarely eat my exercise calories but I know at lot of others do eat them back and there are some theories that it's better to eat some back. My theory is that if I can manage to not eat them back that my weightloss will be slightly higher that day. On the subject of staying focussed I think the trick is not to deprive yourself of everything you like, have foods you enjoy just in smaller amounts. Treat yourself to something extravagant occasionally but then have a smaller/lower calorie meal at some point during that day. Also I have found the weight loss itself and the fact that I feel so much better and can buy smaller clothes is very focussing and motivating.

Glad the cake was good RGPargy, I personally love it! I really don't like nuts and so it really upsets me when you eat cake out and you find someone has put walnuts in something they're calling carrot cake. In my understanding if it has walnuts and carrots it's a passion cake. That's my personal moan of the day grin

2.8 lbs this week, who hoo!!

Well done Katie!

magicalrealistmum Sat 29-Sep-12 08:17:47

Hi all
may I join the new thread- I have been using mfp on and off for 18 months and have found it very helpful when I manage to log.
I have lost about 10lb- and would like to loose another 14lb. I have just started to log again, and am inspired by the impressive determination and achievements of the mumsnet mfps!
I cycle to work 5 days per week and I will add C25K and weekly swim this weekend.
One difficulty is I struggle to prioritise exercise, another one is eating healthily with family!

Feel free to add me- DizziD on mfp,

RGPargy Sat 29-Sep-12 10:49:48

Am currently at another fitness weekender. Not as fun as camber but maybe that's just my mindset today. Feeling a little deflated lol. Probably just tired. Off to do spin now. Wish me luck!!

jchocchip Sat 29-Sep-12 21:39:44

someone kick me - I've had an emotional eating week and just polished off far too much chocolate on the train back home sad Don't want to weigh myself but I will tomorrow morning...

Groovee Sun 30-Sep-12 12:58:31

Gawd things have been hectic here. My dad has been in in intensive care since Tuesday. I weighed in this morning and have lost since I started 17lbs. So very happy with that in 10 weeks.

Well done to those who need it and (((hugs))) to anyone who needs them x

Sparklingbrook Sun 30-Sep-12 13:38:29

Hi all. Day 12 and all going well. If I can be achieving that in 10 weeks Groovee I will be overjoyed. Well done.

I am struggling a bit with things that don't have obvious calories though. DH made me a sandwich, two slices of a small bloomer loaf, 3 slices of Bernard Matthews Wafer thin turkey ham, and a 'dollop' of Celery Nut and Sultana. How do I go about working it out?

Groovee Sun 30-Sep-12 16:16:36

I put things in singularly like 2 slices of bread, then 2 slices of ham, 1/4 of a cucumber then butter which I've weighed

I weigh everything ( have scales which go down to 1g) so weigh and input to the gramme.

Sparklingbrook Sun 30-Sep-12 18:09:16

Thanks, any scales recommendations?

Mine are weight watchers but Argos do some here.

Hi. Can I join?
I have been on mfp for three weeks and have lost about 7lbs. I have a lot to loose! Just want to be a size 12 again ( for the first time in 20 years!). I am currently a size 18, and thats tight!
Using mfp and doing zumba and a bit of jogging and yoga (which I love).
Would love to add people as friends on mfp, I am listed under the same name as here.
Groovee I hope you Dad is okay.

Welcome magicalrealistmum, that sounds like an impressive amount of exercise!

Don't know what to say jchocchip, just remember how good it felt the last time you stuck to your calories and lost weight to get to your lowest weight so far on mfp. Can you perhaps not buy the chocolate so it can't tempt you, or just a small bar? How was your weigh in?

Glad to hear about your weightloss groovee, sorry to hear about your Dad, hope he's well soon smile

I agree sparklingbrook, enter things individually it's more acurate. Any digital scales would be good. Bread is in mfp per slice but it does give weight, ham is also per slice and things that are dollops are often by tablespoon (15g).

Sparklingbrook Sun 30-Sep-12 21:03:08

Thanks for that where-I will invest in some.

I may have to watch my dollops cinnamon as they are generally naughty things like mayo or coleslaw.

Eye opener today. 2 foamy banana sweets=94 calories. shock So not worth that.

I also have a set of measuring spoons which I think help to see what a tablespoon look likes IYKWIM. I think the trouble is we forgotten what actual portion size should be as we so used to just putting things on a plate.

Sparklingbrook Sun 30-Sep-12 21:58:00

I have a set of those somewhere where. I will rummage them out. Thanks for reminding me.

I was interrogating DH earlier about the dollop size of the Celery Nut and Sultana. He said more than half a tbsp but less than a full one.

I know this is a naughty question but what can I replace my foamy bananas with sweet-wise?

Frozen banana. Freeze in the skin then slightly defrost and mash so you get a sort of icecream.

I like frozen grapes as well, as you get the sugar hit but take longer to eat so I don't eat as many.

Sparklingbrook Sun 30-Sep-12 22:22:46

That sounds like something to try where. I am so fed up of Muller Light yoghurt.

I am planning to read all the MFP threads with a notebook and pen at some point for all the tips.

I get a lot of ideas from skinnytaste website. It's American but she give you the calories and the breakdown of protein ect as well.

Hello, I'm pretty late to this thread but can I join? I've been on MFP off and on for ages. I loose a little bit, then loose motivation and put it all back on again. I really need some help and a big kick in the bottom!

Welcome glenthebattleostrich!

Will have a look there wheredidiputit smile

jchocchip Tue 02-Oct-12 08:25:41

oh dear, can't seem to get back into logging food. Counter reset as I must have missed a day. sad

I need to sort myself out and waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread isn't helping!

localcrackpot Tue 02-Oct-12 15:17:13

Hello, I'm on MFP usually (hiatus due to stinking, stinking cold which can only be treated with pudding) and I'm polishedteapot, so please feel free to add me if you like smile

Sparklingbrook Wed 03-Oct-12 07:34:06

Came in under calories every day.
Walked 3 miles briskly every day.

After one week I have lost one pound. sad Gutted is an understatement. Isn't it supposed to fall off the first week? Feel like crying TBH.

Sparklingbrook Wed 03-Oct-12 09:32:30

I have had a thought. I started MFP 2 weeks ago but didn't weigh myself until last Wednesday. So the big weight loss must have been the week before but I wouldn't have known. Oh yes, that must be it.......

jchocchip Wed 03-Oct-12 17:32:46

depends if you have a lot to lose. I would be quite happy with 1lb a week. It is more sustainable than a big loss. Are you drinking your water? I find that makes a difference...

Sparklingbrook Wed 03-Oct-12 17:48:58

No water drinking jchoc. blush I will make a real effort this week. I have a fair bit to lose, I am 11lbs heavier than I thought I was. blush I am coming off some tablets that I think were attributing to my weight gain.

I lost 5lb the first week Sparklingbrook but then settled into a 1-2 lb loss a week. You could be right the last week was your big loss first week but try to see 1lb loss as a positive. You need to eat 2500 calories less than you're using in a week to lose a lb so that's not an easy thing to do. Plus if you had been gaining for a while you will also have had to decrease you calories by more than that to stop the gain too. Try and think that every small step is a step on the way to the new you.

Kick kick jchocchip wink you can do it you've got this far. Get back to logging everything and then start worrying about keeping under your calorie goal after that.

Wow, it's quiet here the last few days.

I am still hobbling around on my boot and feeling happier than I was but still finding it really hard. Still can't drive and dh is getting grumpier by the day! I posted in AIBU as he was a pretty grumpy the other night and I was really upset. I have been eating more crap than usualy but that was a combination of a grumpy dh, totm and feeling fed up myself! I am now 58.7Kg so less than my target so ok. I am concerned after a comment from RGPargy on mfp that I may be already losing muscle though sad. Missing running and fed up of walking taking so long but otherwise I'm ok.

Hope everyone is doing ok smile

Sparklingbrook Fri 05-Oct-12 11:28:30

Hi cinnamon glad you are feeling a bit happier.

I am quietly getting on with it. Struggling to get the water down but all good otherwise. Two weeks in already and I haven't waivered.

Cinnamon you will build the muscle up quickly if it is that, don't get to down.
My dh is being grumpy to, very irritating grin

3lb off this week, 19lb off so far!!!

I'll be a skinnie minnie by christmas if it kills me wink

Sparklingbrook Fri 05-Oct-12 17:36:02

I can't wait to have lost 19lbs Katie that's fab.

I've been at it for 10 weeks though sparkling grin

Would have been more if it hadn't been for those pesky mini party-ring biscuits......

Sparklingbrook Fri 05-Oct-12 18:40:52

So did you go astray at all in the 10 weeks Katie? I am still in the 'scared to deviate from plan' phase.

Yes, at least once a week blush

The microwave sweet popcorn I ingested before checking the calorie content (900), being the most memorable...

And the aforementioned mini party rings

And my mac and cheese addiction

etc.

Sparklingbrook Fri 05-Oct-12 19:23:30

Oh no- 900 calories Katie shock Did you just stop eating for the rest of the day/week?

It was an evening snack sparkling sad

Everyone in the house laughed themselves hoarse at my idiocy.

It was slim pickings till the next weigh-in. Oddly enough, I put on a pound that week..... wink

Sparklingbrook Fri 05-Oct-12 19:42:07

I have just had 2 Starburst sweets and a wine Gum. sad

RGPargy Sat 06-Oct-12 19:45:16

Hi guys, just bookmarking!

RGPargy Sat 06-Oct-12 19:48:22

Sorry cinnamon, I didn't mean to upset you. It might also be that when you use your muscles, they retain water to aid their recovery. Maybe it's just excess water from lack of use that's coming off.......? Hope you are doing ok. smile

Sparklingbrook Sat 06-Oct-12 20:15:48

I weighed in on Wednesday and I have weighed myself today. Nothing. sad

Sparklingbrook

Are you eating all your daily calories (not including your exercise ones) and drinking enough.

I find if I eat less then my 1200 daily calories then I don't lose but if I eat my daily calories and drink at least 6 drinks then I lose.

Sparklingbrook Sat 06-Oct-12 20:23:28

I am thinking if not logging the exercise because I don't want to eat those calories anyway IYKWIM.

I do always come in under calories, I am not managing all the water still though. I will try to eat and drink more, as it doesn't make sense at the moment.

Thanks where. I am reassuring myself that staying the same is better than putting on.

Sparklingbrook Sat 06-Oct-12 20:52:46

I came off the anti-depressants that I think were responsible for my weight gain last week. I think this is going to take longer than I thought but I am not going to give up.

Don't be daft RGPargy! It's really hard with everything taking so much longer and relying on dh but I'm pain free most of the time now which is good. Been more positive since I got my boot and can walk. Got x-ray weds and once I can walk with give it a couple of weeks before I have a go at a gentle jog. My foot is still swollen but nothing like as big as it was!

I think you need to see it as a lifestyle change and long term sparklingbrook, rather than instant loss. Think of it as you want to be healthier and you're making changes to make sure you are rather than focussing on the short term weightloss. I agree that drinking water makes a difference, I keep bottles in the fridge and change them regularly so they are nice and cold. Some days I have to force myself more than others, it also helps you not to get too hungry too. Just try not to get down about it and comfort eat if you can. I don't know a lot about antidepressants but I'm sure they do affect your body in lots of ways so give it time smile

Sparklingbrook Sat 06-Oct-12 23:27:08

Thanks cinnamon. I won't give up. Walking 3 miles a day as fast as I can can't actually be doing me any harm can it? grin

I have got a water filter jug so I am going to make a determined effort. I can get 3 glasses in with meals. I am also going to down one as soon as I get up, and when I get back from the manic walking.

Stepmumm Sun 07-Oct-12 19:49:47

Hi all, newbie to the thread here. Been using mfp for a while (only on good days though!), lost a few stone but losing motivation and starting to put it back on so need fellow dieters to keep me motivated! My name is CalsCal if you want to add me. I'll add those names on here if thats okay x

Oops, I totally forgot about this thread after the old one dropped off Threads I'm On. blush

Still plugging away with MFP, was doing pretty well until our holiday in Italy last week - a few too many pizzas, cappuccinos, gelatos and pinot grigios have caused me to gain 5lbs in a week. So feeling a but miserable about that, as I was doing very well before I left and had just bought myself a size 12 winter coat, three sizes smaller than last year's one.

We basically have NO money this month though thanks to car tax/insurance/MOT, tenancy renewal and of course aforesaid holiday falling at the same time. (Knew this would happen, but needed the holiday!) So stocked up on cheap veg at Aldi yesterday and it's going to be a cheap and healthy few weeks.

mackerel

Asda had in their fresh fruit and veg section packets of veg soup and leek and potato chopped veg for £1 for 600g or 4 serving so only have to add stock.

Welcome stepmumm have accepted your request smile

Welcome back MackerelOfFact, sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down about your gain. You'll be fine getting back into it especially with your purchase of lots of fruit and veg!

Supervixen80 Mon 08-Oct-12 15:42:10

Hi all!
I am going back on the MFP wagon after not using it since my dd was born 9 weeks ago. Really need to shift about 20lb of baby weight and I am doing 5:2 diet except I may do 4:3 to start with. I am bf so depends on how it all goes, I will have to see how dd reacts to me dieting.
I am rachelr1980 on MFP!
Good luck to all on our weight loss journeys xx

Stepmumm Mon 08-Oct-12 19:19:25

Thanks to everyone who's accepted my request/added me CalsCal. Its kept me motivated today, much needed after the many many meals out last week :/

RGPargy Tue 09-Oct-12 11:07:59

Hi everyone smile

Well i'm pleased to say that even after having a couple of weeks off the wagon, people are saying i'm losing weight and also when i weighed myself I will still the same weight (phew!). Am back on the wagon again today, but I have decided to relax the low carbing a little as I always find it such a struggle and end up going completely off the rails. Whereas before I wouldn't be having bread, pasta, potatoes and rice etc, I am now going to allow myself to have a little bread, spuds and a little rice too. I know that i cant have too much tho otherwise it plays havoc with my tummy but that can only be a good thing at helping me portion control. I will still follow LC principles and snack on high protein things like boiled eggs and almonds etc but I wont beat myself up if i fancy a bit of toast! smile

How's the foot now Cinnamon?

Welcome to the newbies and please feel free to add me on MFP (same name as here). The more encouragement the better! grin

It's getting better by the day RGPargy, still trying to keep off it as much as possible as that what I was advised but I'm doing school run twice a day in my boot. I have another x-ray tomorrow so we will see what they say then, I'm getting quite nervous now as it feels much better and I don't want to have to have surgery and go back several steps!

RGPargy Tue 09-Oct-12 13:56:16

Oh it must be so frustrating cinnamon! I hope all is well at your x-ray tomorrow but no doubt you will still have to take it easy for a bit even if they give you the all clear! Good luck!! grin

jchocchip Wed 10-Oct-12 21:09:46

How did you get on cinnamon?

Thanks for asking!! I don't have to wear my boot anymore but can only wear flat shoes and no running until 8 weeks after I broke them so another 4 1/2 weeks and no driving for 3 more weeks sad. He said bones haven't moved since last x-ray so won't now and try to stay on even surfaces confused. Pleased its healing well but not so chuffed about driving, only have one pair of flat shoes I can get on as foots still a bit swollen. Fingers crossed school run tomorrow isn't too painful!!

jchocchip Thu 11-Oct-12 07:44:56

Well that is good progress - though frustrating at least you know the bones are healing well and you will be back to running in a month... Sounds like you won't have to have surgery so that is great news. Try not to do too much!!!

RGPargy Fri 12-Oct-12 06:09:08

I agree ! It's deffo good progress cinnamon! You will just have to be patient as these things take time. Just try and remember how much pressure and weight the bones in our feet take and maybe it'll help with the frustrating and long wait for them to heal, iykwim. smile

Thank you both! It's really improving daily so that's good. Didn't like bein in a shoe but that's getting more normal too. Back to the hospital today with ds1 who's having his adenoids out, got appointment yesterday and he's having his pre op today, lots of notice there then!!!

Groovee Sun 14-Oct-12 10:47:23

I've lost another pound this week. That's 19lbs off. Dh lost another 2lb this week too.

Sparklingbrook Sun 14-Oct-12 13:00:34

Wow Groovee how long has that taken? Sorry if it's in the thread somewhere-I still haven't read it. It's on my 'to do' list.

4lbs for me so far. smile

Groovee Mon 15-Oct-12 13:03:28

19lb in 12 weeks and 20lb for dh in 10 and a half.

Sparklingbrook Mon 15-Oct-12 14:26:01

You must be really chuffed Groovee. Have you much to lose? Are you and your DH in competition? grin

I have just set up mfp - I am more used to weight watchers but how do you find out the calorie count for all foods? Things like eggs, fruit, veg etc. obviously if I have the packet I can do it but not sure

Sorry if its really obvious and I'm just missing it!

Groovee Mon 15-Oct-12 20:57:31

I just input what my item is to the search bar to find the calorie content.

We're turning into a competition lol as I hate being beaten.

jchocchip Tue 16-Oct-12 06:33:45

marking place. Not doing very well at the moment sad Don't think I like the dark mornings - difficult to fit a run in! Keep resolving to log everything, then failing and eating chocolate.

I had lost 9lb before putting my weight into MFP so my total is 16lb but I'm finding the weight loss isn't as fast as I would like.
So I'm going to start using Wii Fit Plus again.

Oh no I lost you all, fell off my I'm on list. Still plodding along here maintaining. Got a horrible cold which really isn't making me want to eat!! Starting to think being a healthy weight is a bad thing, sickness bug, broken foot and cold in the last 6 weeks sad

cakeaddict Wed 17-Oct-12 09:29:45

Hello,
I've been lurking a bit on here but haven't posted before. Just wondered how long it took you all to see results?
I've been following MFP for about 3 weeks now (and broadly sticking with it), and don't seem to have lost a single ounce. I thought I would have seen something happen by now, so starting to get a bit discouraged. I don't have much to lose - just want to shed half a stone to feel a bit better & lose some flab.

tink8181 Wed 17-Oct-12 14:55:18

Hi

Could I join you? I've been trying to loose using mfp for a while but I'm stuck in a bit of a rut and I'm struggling to get going again. I've been finding I keep loosing motivation and have been going way over on my daily calorie allowance sad

tink x

cookieowner Wed 17-Oct-12 16:17:59

hi
havent been on here for a week or 2 as moving house so no internet, im still going with mfp but it does seem a slow process , im losing 1-2 a week though and on 1200 calories a day

RGPargy Wed 17-Oct-12 18:40:43

Hi everyone. Just bookmarking! :-)

jchocchip Wed 17-Oct-12 20:41:22

Hello everyone Comfort eating here again. Taxi driver nudged me off my bike on my way to work so I'm a bit bruised and scratched. That tarmac is sharp! Going to have a bath now and try again tomorrow. mfp, NOT cycling to work. Think the dark morning got me by surprise. I work flexi so can go in between 7.30 and 10. Guess I was just too early sad

RGPargy Wed 17-Oct-12 22:09:20

Oh no, choc, Poor you!!! I love cycling but the roads scare me sometimes. I guess in the (not-so) light of very early morning, it's difficult to see cyclists as the sun is coming up but it's still dark. Tis a very odd sort of light. Hope it doesn't put you off though. I also hope, more importantly, that you are ok!!!

Both DP and I have only been half heartedly eating well. I dont know if it's because things are busy at home at the moment or whether it's because winter is drawing in and I, for some reason, feel the need to eat stodge. I hope not! The next fitness weekender is at the beginning of March so I really really do want to lose some weight before i go. I say this every time and i always end up going there pretty much at the same weight as the last one. Must make more of an effort this time!

Hello and welcome cakeaddict and tink8181! grin Feel free to add me on MFP. Same name as here. smile

I made some cupcakes for the girls at the gym today (how wrong is that statement!!). They went down really well. I am very pleased because i finally managed to make my cupcakes look nice lol. I made Baileys flavour and vanilla flavour. They were absolutely delicious - apparently hmmblush

Sparklingbrook Wed 17-Oct-12 22:13:24

Hello. Got really bad back pain which came on out of nowhere. No walk for 2 days and fell off the wagon a lot bit today.

Is there any way to keep your username on MFP, but scrub all the previous stuff and start again? I can't face logging all of today's snacks. sad

RGPargy Wed 17-Oct-12 22:15:26

If you dont want to log today's snacks then just dont log them! Start afresh tomorrow. Look after your back and be kind to yourself! smile

Sparklingbrook Wed 17-Oct-12 22:24:23

Thanks RG. I'm so fed up-only been doing it for 4 weeks and off the rails already.

RGPargy Wed 17-Oct-12 22:27:49

It's hard to keep going, I know. I am currently only half on and half off the rails lol. It's all in the head and if your head's not in it, you will probably keep falling off or keep having "treats". Try again tomorrow and try not to worry too much about today. Worrying about what you've eaten now will not get rid of the calories you have consumed so just learn from it and move on. Chin up. smile

Sparklingbrook Wed 17-Oct-12 22:30:42

I have just come off the ADs that I think were to blame for the weight gain, so I imagined it all falling off me, but no. sad

You are right though RG. I will weigh in tomorrow and get on with it again.

tink8181 Thu 18-Oct-12 10:40:35

Thanks RG will add you smile

Had a bit of a day yesterday, I thought I was doing ok and then had a bit of a rubbish afternoon at work and munched my way through a 120g bar of orange and shortcake galaxy and a load of party rings sad

Had a good thunk and chat with the dag when we were walking round the field this morning. Going to try and get my bum in gear and stop making excuses for falling off the wagon! (we'll see how long it lasts!) I came in to work via the supermarket and have got a load of fruit to munch on through the day rather than me heading for the biscuits and chocolate. Fingers crossed for a better day today!

tink x

Hi boringnamechange, the easiest way to find calorie count is to add something to a meal and use the search function at the top. Just have a scan through as some people have under/over estimated so I tend to go for the average if I don't have a barcode to scan. Although I have had something totally random pop up when I have scanned a bar code so don't always trust that either!

Hi cakeaddict, I started losing straight away but I have lost 5st 10 so I was considerably more overweight than you are! I would suggest giving it a bit of time and drink plenty of water smile

Welcome tink8181 we'll try to help you keep on track!

1-2lb a week is good going cookieowner, keep it up smile

Sorry to hear that jchocchip, I hope you are feeling better today! Blimmin taxi drivers hey! Don't assume it's your fault because it was a bit darker than normal.

Glad the cupcakes were good RGPargy grin

How are things bexsybooboo, if you're still reading?

jchocchip Thu 18-Oct-12 18:35:30

I don't think it was my fault, but also I think that its October and I do know how difficult it is to see when driving in the dark. I think he will look out more carefully for cyclists now!

Hello all. I'm doing really badly at the moment. I seem to have been about 200 cals over every day this week - I think it's the cold weather and darkness setting in. Not good.

I mentioned way back on one of the earlier threads that I wanted a size 10 dress to wear to a work do in November. It turns out it's earlier than I thought it was (start of Nov rather than the end) and I'm disappointed that I'm not quite a size 10 yet. Some size 10s fit nicely but others won't even do up. I'm behind where I wanted to be at this stage by about half a stone, which is annoying! I'm creeping towards the 3 stone mark but progress is v-e-r-y slow (see above!)

Groovee Sun 21-Oct-12 10:21:12

Hi everyone, lost 3lb this week taking me to 22lb loss in 14 weeks. I never manage to hit a target dead on lol. My next target now is 6lb by Christmas as we have 3 birthdays coming up. I can see me having my slimmer body for Florida next year :-).

Dh gained 1lb. So I'm ahead again.

If anyone wants to add me on MFP I'm Grooveecar. My diary is open and people can get a hint of what I eat and get inspiration if you are struggling xx

audley Sun 21-Oct-12 16:05:39

Hello, hello, just found this. I am Clinsell on MFP and have no friends yet ;0)

Sparklingbrook Sun 21-Oct-12 16:08:48

Hi all. I fell off the wagon then got run over by it. sad

Had really bad back pain since last Monday. Now easing thankfully so will be going on a very tentative walk tomorrow to see if I can do it.

Because I couldn't do the walk I got all 'I can't be bothered' and stopped the plan.

Tomorrow is the day. Again.

jchocchip Sun 21-Oct-12 16:41:11

Hmmm, I like Saturdays because it's parkrunday and I can come in under, but now its Sunday and I'm over already sad Think I will go out for a run and try and get back into credit...

Well done Groovee!

Welcome audley smile

Come sparklingbrook and jchocchip, you can do it! Make today a great day!!

cookieowner Mon 22-Oct-12 17:30:42

ive lost another 5lb so now 1 stone 1lb since i started in mid september
really pleased mfp is working for me!
A long way to go though still

audley Mon 22-Oct-12 21:18:12

Thanks cinnamon, cookie - wow is that 5lbs in one week? Can't wait to see what happens on my first weigh in ;0)

cookieowner Tue 23-Oct-12 10:55:43

No 5lb was over 2 weeks as couldnt weigh last week as in throes of house moving!

MonsterBookOfTerrors Tue 23-Oct-12 11:00:16

Hello smile
Any new mfp's feel free to add me, same name as on here smile
I have not been posting much as had a lot of personal rubbish to deal with
hence hardly ever coming in under
But am trying again now smile

audley Tue 23-Oct-12 21:02:49

I see cookie, would still be mighty pleased with that! Hope you are enjoying the new house smile

Hope you're ok MonsterBookOfTerrors! Have you changed mfp name to terrors too then?

jchocchip Thu 25-Oct-12 17:09:06

struggling with the munchies here, wondering if it is totm or just the time of year...

Probably both jchocchip!!!!

audley Fri 26-Oct-12 09:54:14

Quick question, does anyone do a body pump class and how do you record it? Thanks

jchocchip Sat 27-Oct-12 19:32:22

haven't done bodypump yet since I started mfp sad I would wear a hrm once and use that value. From what I remember, it is a mega burner more energetic than running for an hour...

What a horrible weekend, really doesn't make you feel like eating well or doing exercise!

Made some chelsea buns today, don't think I will eat many as dh LOVES them. It's really nice as he doesn't like a lot and usually doesn't eat what I bake (would bake more if he would eat more as then baking wouldn't = me eating loads!)

Hope everyone is still plodding along nicely smile

RGPargy Mon 29-Oct-12 22:23:41

Wow lost you all!!!

I do pump and use my hrm to record my cals burned. Not sure about it being harder than running for an hour tho. It would depend on the weights you use. Also it is strength training and only a little cardio so completely different. On average I will burn between 350-380 cals per class and I don't lift light weights! Good luck and enjoy!

RachelHRD Mon 29-Oct-12 22:32:00

Hi all smile

New to this thread but DH and I have been using MFP for the last six weeks and I've lost 23 lbs so far and he has lost 25 lbs smile

Have been finding it surprisingly easy although it's a bit disheartening when you hit a 10lb target and then your calorie allowance drops!!

Got lots more to lose but it's heading in the right direction and I've had lots of compliments from friends smile

RGPargy Tue 30-Oct-12 08:09:28

Hello and welcome Rachel! Well done on yours and DH's losses. You've done amazingly well!

jchocchip Wed 31-Oct-12 07:06:43

hi rachel, its a lovely feeling when it starts happening!
Heck, too much chocolate. I'm going to have to go cold turkey...one day soon. ;)

Welcome RachelHRD, that's fantastic weight loss. Well done to you and your husband.

MonsterBookOfTerrors Wed 31-Oct-12 21:37:05

Hi Rachel, feel free to add me same name as on here.

I am happy, fil commented again as to me looking even more slim, nobody has commented since he last said it months ago grin

RGPargy Thu 01-Nov-12 06:52:47

Well done monster!! grin

MonsterBookOfTyFawkes Thu 01-Nov-12 21:25:55

Thanks RG grin
Newbies I have been giving out my wrong name as forgot I was under a nc.
MFP name is MonsterBookOfTysons

That's nice to hear MonsterBookOfTyFawkes smile

I have put on 1.5Kg in the last week, have spent the last two days being more careful and have lost 700g of it. I'm happy that I have the willpower when I need it and that it's shifted as quickly as it arrived. I should be ok next week as it's back to school so back to walking miles pushing three under three smile

Groovee Sun 04-Nov-12 10:09:51

Gained 2lb last week. Lost 2lb this week. Still need 6lb loss to my 2st by Christmas, fingers crossed x

jchocchip Mon 05-Nov-12 07:21:57

hmmm have had a number of people remark that I have lost weight this week which is good, I suppose, I am quite a bit lighter than this time last yeaar and much fitter thanks to c25k, but I have put some back on by not logging, eating too much. Really must get back into this...

Groovee Mon 05-Nov-12 07:32:02

You can do it Jchocchip xx

Hello all, I'm still plodding on MFP despite very little in the way of loss over the past few weeks. I'm fluctuating all over the place, partly TOTM, partly having some pretty excessive days, partly stubbornness on behalf of my flab.

BUT... when I first joined MFP back in May, I said I wanted to wear a size 10 dress for a work do in November. I am very happy to report that I did exactly that. smile I am still about a stone behind where I wanted to be by now, but I'm feeling pretty good about myself after some of the incredible comments I got throughout the entire evening (and the next day at work!) Quite surreal. "Stunning," "absolutely tiny" and "stole the show" were all used. blush

Anyway, back to reality. I want another stone off by Christmas!

firstpost Tue 06-Nov-12 15:19:10

Hello smile Just here to say THANKYOU

I read a MFP thread on 5th August this year, shortly after a dreadful "when are you due" convo, and the same day I saw a pic of myself on facebook and cried blush

The next day I weighed myself for the first time in six years and joined MFP. The best thing I ever did.

Now I weigh 10 stone 6 (a loss of 2 stone 4lb) and have only 6 pounds to go until goal weight.

It would never have happened if I had not stumbled across that thread on MN so it really has changed my life!

So, really, thankyou and best of luck to all of us on this journey.

MonsterBookOfTyFawkes Tue 06-Nov-12 20:24:32

Well done FirstPost smile You must feel great!

jchocchip Tue 06-Nov-12 21:47:10

Hurray for firstpost

Yet another person told me I was looking good yesterday evening! Can't believe it really as the scales are refusing to budge but I do know that I look loads better at 18.5 than 21.5 ... I think I could do with booking a holiday, cos I know that would kick start the diet again, but no money at the moment. think I'm going to apply for a new job...

Groovee Wed 07-Nov-12 09:41:45

Well done First Post xx

That's great firstpost, you should have joined the thread earlier though wink

firstpost Wed 07-Nov-12 14:40:29

Thanks all smile Have just read back my post and worried it sounded "boasty" when I was aiming for grateful!

I was a lurker on MN for around 5 years before I started posting some sort of record perhaps? Aim to post at least once a dau now and would like to join in! Still have 6 lbs to go and the closer I get to goal the harder it seems to shift. It doesnt help that I have snickers celebrations chocoalates taunting me in the cupboard.

I have been following all your progress <stalker> so well done!

Not at all!!!!! Welcome to the thread grin

cookieowner Wed 07-Nov-12 14:57:58

Havent been on here for a week or so but have now lost 17lbs so pretty happy, and have been away for the weekend so didnt log but tried not to be to unhealthy and hope next weeks weigh in isnt a gain!
Hope everyone else is doing ok still
i am aiming to hit the 2 stone lost by christmas so really want to shift another 11lbs by then

ThePinkNinja Thu 08-Nov-12 22:28:50

Am on the 2lbs a week thread, but using cal counting and myfitnesspal smile So, please can I join you all as well? smile

RGPargy Fri 09-Nov-12 10:03:12

Hi guys. Bookmarking!!

jchocchip Fri 09-Nov-12 22:58:51

hi everyone, just when I thought I would get back to logging, I have broken my android, so I can only log on a pc sad Will have to be good tomorrow, today wasn't too bad ...

MonsterBookOfTyFawkes Sun 11-Nov-12 19:26:32

I went for a bra fitting at Debenhams yesterday. My first ever bra fitting .
I have always been comfortable in a 34C since I was 16 years old.
My bra had been getting loose and falling off my shoulders.
I am now a 32D!
I am very happy grin

Yay well done MonsterBookOfTyFawkes! I've gone from a 36G to 32DD, quite depressing really sad

Been for a run today and foot didn't stop me, did 25 mins. Legs bloody hurt though!!!

MrsBucketxx Wed 14-Nov-12 09:06:09

been on mgp for 2 months and lost 11 pounds so far. so im marking my place.

im the same username as here if you want to add me

This thread is very quiet at the moment, hope everyone is doing well and enjoying some lovely winter soups!!

I am still maintaining although I've seen some bad habits sneaking back in, took a few days of making sure I wasn't eating to much to get back to where I was. I'm back to running now and was surprised to be able to do 25mins on Sunday and then went to running group Monday and did some interval training which was great. Foot really hurt when I had stopped for recovery and then restarted sad

How is everyone feeling about the run up to Christmas, what are your philosophies on it? Last year I started cutting down in November so was being good over Christmas, I carried on loosing just by not pigging out but having some bits. Not sure how strong my resolve will be this year! Luckily we are going to my mums for Christmas day so other than bits we are bought as pressie I won't have lots of cakes/sweets/mince pies in the house.

And welcome MrsBucketxx!!

Well done mrsBucketxx.

I lost 27lb since the end of June. My main issue is trying to do more exercise. At the moment I'm mainly trying to keep doing 10,000 steps a day as I have twisted/pulled the ligaments in one of my knees. So when I try anything more then walking my leg is burning and I can't put any weight on it.

I'm going to start sewing again in the evenings so i'm not picking.

Cinnamongreyhound.

I think me and DH are just going to try and take it easy over christmas and not log as neither of us want to think that we can't have things we fancy. But we tend to go mad anyway.

jchocchip Fri 16-Nov-12 20:59:10

marking place. I've bought a new phone and I'm going to start logging from there as soon as it arrives. hopefully tomorrow. parkrun day smile Last year I logged over Christmas at DMils and managed to lose !!! smile

Ellellie Sat 17-Nov-12 19:11:37

<slinks back onto thread>

I should hang my head in shame. I'm back because I tried to buy an autumn jacket today and could not find any that fit :-( I've only got myself to blame really for dropping the ball <wail>

How is every one doing?

cece Sat 17-Nov-12 19:21:10

Hello, I didn't know this thread was here. I have been using MFP for a few months now and so far have lost nearly 2 stone.

waves to jchochip and cinnamongreyhound.

Hi cece! Well done, don't know how I didn't mention this thread! Welcome anyway smile

Groovee Sun 18-Nov-12 10:00:17

After a few iffy weeks I have lost 2lbs and am feeling it. 23lb loss in 120 days. Dh has lost 27lb so only 1lb to his 2st. Not sure If I will manage 5lb before Christmas. But can try. Will have the day off for dh's birthday then mine.

RGPargy Mon 19-Nov-12 22:59:10

Just bookmarking. Been terrible re food and am now too poorly to exercise due to a tight horrible chesty cough and a virus or something. sad

I was meant to be borrowing DPs fitbit this week to see how much I burn, but I've just checked my bra where it was clipped, and it's no longer there. Fuck fuck fuck.

Having a bad time with the weight loss ATM too. Made cakes for school and ended up having a bit of a baking spree. I can't seem to control myself around cake.

That's not good MackerelOfFact sad hope he's not too cross!!

Aarrrgghhh when will everyone stop comment on me being too skinny? I haven't lost weight since the end of July and still I get comments about losing more weight and that I need to stop. Would have thought people I see regularly would be used to me by now. Only the very exciting plus side I went boot shopping with my mum Sunday and bought knee high boots for the first time ever in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But they're from my Dad for my birthday so I won't get them until a week Friday sad

The fitbit didn't turn up (it must've fallen off when I was running for the train) so I ordered DP a replacement, only to later see they'd been in the Amazon Black Friday sale earlier in the day for £40 instead of £80!

Oh well. Lesson learnt. Apparently he was only lending it to me to see if I'd want one for Xmas, but that answered that question!

Cinnamon that's quite annoying - I guess people remember you at your previous size so it's constantly a suprise when they see you slim. I'm sure they don't mean anything nasty by it, but if they do it's just jealousy I expect.

TwoJackRussellsandababy Wed 21-Nov-12 07:38:34

Can I join in? I'm singularly failing to lose the baby weight and need to really track what I'm eating, having some friends to help me would be fab! My username is twojacks, please add me if you want to, thanks!

Hi TwoJackRussellsandababy, welcome!!

Some of you may have seen my post today on mfp but I'll repeat it here too. I've decided to have a week of not logging and see how I go. I've maintained for 4 months now and think its time to brave going it alone. Although I chickened out of not logging today as I took ds2 out and we shared a McDonalds! I'll still keep posting here though and hope not need to go back to logging due to massive weight gain wink

pinkladyslipper Fri 23-Nov-12 11:22:52

Hi, i am inspired by you all to post here. I used MFP when I ha DC1 but as I was pregnant about a week later so just using it again after getting fed up of Slimming World. I was just 12stone the week I had DC2 almost 6 months ago and I am 9 st 8 (ish!). Want to be 9st. Finding the last half stone tough. I am mrsfreckles on MFP.

jchocchip Fri 23-Nov-12 19:14:57

Hi everyone. have new phone now and its great. Works with barcodes really quickly unlike my old one so.that is quite a novelty. Gps is not very accurate sad but it does have lots of settings so it may improve. Will see how it tracks parkrun tomorrow. Hope I can keep up with the logging.

I think I've lost my logging on mfp sad. It's been really hard not to log so I've been trying to forget and don't think I opened the app yesterday, oh well! Our scales have broken so as well as not logging I am also not able to weigh myself so a bit panicked now. Hope everyone else is doing well, this thread is very quiet at the moment.

As an aside and just to say because I don't feel I've complained to enough people, I'm really pissed off with getting wet!!!! Stop sodding raining!!!! Feel better now grin

Cinnamon I am still here, just quietly ploding on smile
I am also fed up of the rain and how dark it is all day, very hard to get motivated! grin

That's good MonsterBookOfTysons! The weather really gets you down after a while.

I posted this on the maintaining thread I started but can I ask you guys too? Wanted to ask about clothes, my bodyshape has totally changed and I know some clothes I used to wear don't suit me know and vice versa. My dad had bought me knee high boots for my birthday (which I've never been able to fit into before!) and I'm thinking of buying a wooly dress and leggings from h&m less than £40 for both so not breaking te bank. BUT it's such a total change to what I normally wear I don't know if its a good idea. I already dislike the attention my weight loss causes I feel as if changing my dress style will draw more attention and make it seem a bit like I'm showing off. Am I being ridiculous?

Cinnamon I want that style outfit too! But worry as the last time I wore anything stylish my sil looked me up and down but that was before the weight loss.
You will look great and hopefully get used to the attention or used to ignoring it.
grin

Movingforward123 Fri 30-Nov-12 22:36:29

Hi everyone can I join? smile

I have a few questions about my fitness pal smile

My mum treated me while we were out MonsterBookOfTysons and I wore it out tonight smile

Welcome Movingforward123, what are your questions?

Movingforward123 Fri 30-Nov-12 23:02:18

Thanks smile

Well I work in retail once a week for 8hours, normally I'm not on my feet all day, I'm wondering if I can add calories for standing all day?

I've entered standing in mfp, and it came up with standing fishing on a river bank and gave a lot of extra calories. Obviously I wouldn't use all the extra calories but maybe an extra 200-300? What do you think?

What do you have your activity level set at? I would probably tend not to add it but then I have my activity set at lightly active so think that something like that would come into it. I can't imagine standing on a river bank fishing would really burn loads of calories, you have to be careful with some activities as they are clearly overestimated! Also depends what you're doing on a normal day. Mon- Fri I do 2 or 3 school runs pushing a double buggy with 3 children on it so about 1-1 1/2hrs walking plus chasing kids around whereas on a weekend I don't do half as much but I don't adjust for those days.

hairtwiddler Sun 02-Dec-12 20:41:24

Can I join? New to myfitness pal and no friends yet! Anyone who wants to add me please do. I'm gotootsiego on there...
I'm using the app currently to try to eat less/keep track of my eating. By doing this so far I've kept under calorie goal.
Probably at least two stone to loose. Some motivation would be great.

RGPargy Mon 03-Dec-12 06:10:11

Hi everyone! Lost you all! Oopsie!! smile

HermioneHatesHoovering Mon 03-Dec-12 07:03:21

Hiya,
I'm 11 weeks in and 10.2kg down, yay! Had lots of social events this last week so trying to be careful and now on the run up to Christmas it'll be hard but doing my best.

Groovee Mon 03-Dec-12 07:07:37

Struggling. I just don't seem to be able to move on from where I am. It's the 5lb before Christmas struggle :-(

RGPargy Mon 03-Dec-12 10:18:03

I've been struggling for the past year!! I think my lowest was 16st 1lb and that was for about a week. The scales have not moved in the right direction ever since!!

Sorry to hear that you are struggling groovee and RGPargy. Perhaps it's time to enjoy Christmas and start again in the new year? I have come to a nice equilibrium now where I can have some treats and then have a good day the next day and it all seems to be working itself out so I don't feel deprived and in turn don't feel the need to binge. Perhaps you need to change something, calories up/down, daily habits or have a juggle with what you are eating?

RGPargy Mon 03-Dec-12 23:42:30

Yes you are right cinnamon. I will have to try and analyse my triggers for going off the rails.....

MonsterBookOfTinsel Tue 04-Dec-12 20:48:29

I have put myself on to Maintain!
Just for the Christmas period as I will only be over everyday which will make me depressed.
I want Baileys and nice food!
I plan on going back to 1260 cals after the Baileys has gone grin

What is it giving you to maintain? Do you really need to go back to 1260, I thought you were happy where you were? I aim for 1600-1800 most days but I'm pretty active, still running 2-3 times a week too. This weather really doesn't encourage exercise, well not outside exercise anyway! Went to running club monday and my hands almost froze off sad

Ooooh just seen the festive smileys smile

MonsterBookOfTinsel Tue 04-Dec-12 21:55:34

Cinnamon I am happy where I am, I guess I assume I will put weight on as I haven't maintained before. If I don't put weight on I will carry on maintaining.
I think it said 1760 which is brilliant.
Nearly a year of 1200-1400 and I can finally eat! grin
I walk 80 mins to 120 mins at least a day <school runs, but fast as I am always late> wink
Cycle once a week but only 20 mins as I am travelling to and from Rainbow's and it's freezing! grin
I want to cycle more, it's dh's bike, I may take it out tomorrow and get my own for my birthday.

Bertrude Wed 05-Dec-12 05:22:29

Hola

Just thought I'd add myself to this thread so I can discuss the sheer hell wonder that is MFP

I joined in June '11 and managed to lose 13kg by October. Then I ate and stopped exercising and I put 7kg back on.

I started back up again last week as the dress I've bought for NYE fits but would be better no Bridget pants required if I lose a little bit. I decided I wanted to lose 4kg by Christmas (yeah right!) and to my shock, I have lost 2.5kg since last Tuesday.

I'm now set to 1240 per day but am trying to exercise properly every day. I have the P90X discs and whilst I know I cannot commit to that the tortoise has taken over the bedroom where my pull up bar is kept I am trying to do some of the cardio discs. We have a 5km running track out the back of our apartment block so I'm trying to use that 3-4 times per week, and weekends I go kayaking. Sundays I play netball.

Must. Keep. Going.

Sounds very active Bertrude!!! Perhaps your calories are a little low for being that active or are you eating some of your exercise calories too? Well done on your weightloss.

aPirateInaPearTree Thu 06-Dec-12 20:17:15

thought i'd pop back, havent been on here in ages.

I started mfp at the end of Jan, very determined, for the first time in my life to so something as my weight has crept up and up over the yrs.

I lost 2two stone this yr doing it, and stopped going on there in august. I now have a better idea of what i should be eating, and decided to trust myself in august. i think since august i have lost 5lbs of that 2 stone, so even tho i am not being perfect, it is still very slowly coming off iyswim.
It's just i read some people saying about coming off it, and i just wanted to say that if you really think and try hard you don't have to be a slave to it over xmas. I know what i am not supposed to have, and am pleased i seem to have reached a sort of place where i can trust my self. Something i have never done before.

I am not slim, but happier. i was 11st 12 and am now 9st 10. just wanted to say, i was hoping it would work, and it did. it was very slow, some weeks i lost nothing. sometimes it took 4 weeks to lose a bloody pound. it was hard work, but i know it can work. I have a very slow metabolism and no i don't really exercise either, i am a lazy bloody cow.

x

jchocchip Thu 06-Dec-12 20:33:41

Checking in. was going to go for a swim but couldn't face walking to the pool in the rain <wuss emoticon> have been logging again but forgot today. Will try and remember everything...

Well done aPirateinaPearTree! 9st10 sounds pretty slim to me! Feel free to stick around!

I wussed out on my run on Thursday because of rain and cold jchocchip!

jchocchip Sun 09-Dec-12 16:02:18

glad its not just me ;) Did parkrun yesterday, but that doesn't involve going out in the dark smile

Movingforward123 Sun 09-Dec-12 17:52:51

Hey everyone, good news I have lost 6 possibly 7lbs already and tomorrow will be 2 weeks in smilesmile

Wow if I could loose the same again in the next 2 weeks I would be over the moon. But I'm sure it will slow down, it always does.

But for the first time in two years I feel like its very possible to reach my goal weight and I'm not dreading it atall! confused very unusual for me.

So if I keep loosing 2lbs I will be 9.10 for Xmas which I will be happy with.

Well done Movingforward123! I lost 5lb my first week, then 3 and then 1-2 from then onwards. It's a great start and being 9st 10 by Christmas sounds like you don't have a huge way to travel smile

Groovee Mon 10-Dec-12 08:04:02

I lost 2lb this week after maintaining for a few weeks. 25lb loss. Very happy with that. Hubby's birthday tomorrow and mine next week but trying to stay on the wagon during christmas as I've done it before.

If anyone wants to add me on MFP I'm Grooveecar x

aPirateInaPearTree Mon 10-Dec-12 11:08:32

thankyou cinnamon. have had visitors over and have put on 2lbs this week, by basically not sticking to enough good things, like the veg/salad. or enough protein (am veggie). It's quite tricky to eat out as a veggie and not be faced with cheese.

back on the more mindful eating as of today.

Hello everyone. Really impressed by anyone who has managed to get outside an do exercise in this Arctic weather! And anyone who has managed to lose anything too, as it seems completely evolutionarily counter-productive to be trying to lose our winter stores. (At least that's what I'm telling myself! blush)

I haven't lost anything in absolutely ages. I've been pretty bad for several weeks (lots of cake, takeaways and wine have featured) and feel like a house but I have been fluctuating back and forth over the same couple of pounds. For the time being and over Christmas I'll be happy to maintain my current weight, and then I'll hit it hard in January to get rid of the last stone or so.

I also passed my driving test (on the 8th attempt!) the other week so I've been driving places that I would've walked to previously, just to get more confident on the road. Which isn't helping!

wheredidiputchristmas Tue 11-Dec-12 11:16:30

Congratulation on passing your driving test Mackerel.

I've sort of stopped MFP for now moved to maintenance for Dec. Although I'm still trying not to eat more then 1200 cal a day. As I have so many things to do/going out I'm not going to stress about dieting.

RGPargy Wed 12-Dec-12 07:30:19

Bookmarking ladies!! Sorry I haven't been on lately. Am currently busy with baking projects which is not good for the non existent diet i seem to be on at the moment! [Fhmm]

Thanks wheredidiputchristmas!

Really craving a brie and cranberry sandwich, so just checked out the calories for the one they do in Pret - here. Fabulous news, I'll have 10! grin

grin MackerelOfFact!!!

Wow thread is quiet at the moment, hope that's a good sign and just means no one needs any support!

I ran almost 6 miles with my running group Saturday, very proud of myself grin

MonsterBookOfTinsel Wed 19-Dec-12 21:29:25

I am maintaining nicely, although I am wearing so many layers atm I look big.
hmm
But today I bought Baileys, it is one of the reasons I put so much weight on last Christmas so must be restrictive grin
How are you doing Cinnamon smile

Other than a crappy cold that's getting on my nerves I'm good. Running going well, cold all the time (putting it down to lack of insulation!) and staying very close to 9st 4 so happy. Looking forward to a few days off I'm knackered!

MonsterBookOfTinsel Wed 19-Dec-12 21:43:09

Sounds good! I am cold more often too, I am sitting wearing a jumper which I never used to do grin
Hope your cold buggars off!
I am at 9st 12lb which is ok, I have stayed the same smile

Hi, I've just restarted MFP! I'd used it to keep track of weight during pregnancy to avoid putting excessive amounts on, but now I'm eating worse than ever. My name is the same please feel free to add me. smile

wheredidiputchristmas Fri 21-Dec-12 10:33:35

I'm/DH and me are having a break for a couple of weeks over Christmas/New Year. But will be back next year.

Hope you all have a good christmas and New year.

jchocchip Sat 22-Dec-12 07:35:57

Happy Christmas everyone! Last year I was really good logging at Christmas and lost weight due to. A combination of swimming and walking to earn the extra calories.
I must really take myself in hand now, don't want to put any more weight back on. Will weigh today and try to maintain over the next week.

jchocchip Sat 22-Dec-12 08:21:46

Woot lost 5 lbs in 10 days! Even being over target most days, I know my target is too low, but it makes me think about stopping for the day when I sail past it blush

Welcome Weekipper!

Enjoy your break wheredidiputitchristmas and hope you manage to be as good as you want to over Christmas jchocchip and well done on your weightloss smile

And I ran 8 miles today which bagged me 940 extra calories, may join MonsterBookOfTinsel in a baileys this evening grin

Level3at6months Fri 28-Dec-12 09:36:12

Hi all. I've toyed very briefly with MFP before but now's the time to begin properly. I'm very fed up as this has been my fattest, laziest December ever and I know it's just not me so I have to stop it right now. If anyone would add me to give me a kick up the very wide backside it would be much appreciated. Same user name as here. Thanks!

Level3at6months Fri 28-Dec-12 09:37:30

Oooh, no no no! Not same name as here at all, silly me blush littlecityblue it is!

MegBusset Sat 29-Dec-12 15:37:51

Hello <waves at Cinnamon and Jchocchip from C25k thread> smile

I have been logging since August, lost 11lb (9st 8lb to 8st 11lb) and started running 3x week. Stopped logging mid-Dec so I could enjoy Xmas meals without stressing, have gone up to 9st 1lb so am back on the wagon, on 1420 cals til I get back down to 8st 11 or 12 where I'm comfortable.

Welcome Level3at6months!! I will add you but I'm not very active on mfp, I'm maintaining so just pop in now and again and log my running. I was 14st 13 and lost 5st 9lb so if I can do it you can too grin

Hi MegBusset, don't reckon it'll take you long smile. Sounds like you had a good Christmas though!

Elainey1609 Sat 29-Dec-12 16:14:17

Hi ya everyone
so last year i lost quite abit of weight using my fitness pal, untill i fell off the band wagon due to normal stress and family life.....im sure everyone has the same thing.
But this year i graduate from university ( want to look great in a new dress and my graduation robes), i will have to look for jobs meaning having to attend interviews.
i want to feel confident.....and to do that need to feel and look my best, happy with myself both on the inside and out.

i loved the support i got from you guys in the beginning you were a huge help.
so from 1st of January the diet starts (no point strating before then got loads of xmas chocolate snacks and ice cream left lol and not even at home lol)

So hope everyone will be joining with me would love any tips

add me on mfp...my username is Elainey1609

Good luck to everyone we will achieve our goals this year with each other to help

MonsterBookOfTinsel Sat 29-Dec-12 17:47:26

So after the alcohol, chocolate and fizzy pop, I am starting logging properly again tomorrow.
Am coming off maintaining till I am feeling a bit detoxed, the higher cal intake is just excuse for more chocolate, need to be strict till the chocolate has run out!
Newbies feel free to add me, I have been logging for a whole year now!
Same name as on here smile

BoraBora Sat 29-Dec-12 20:24:14

Hi guys, can I join you?

My DD is now two months old and have decided to tackle my pregnancy weight. I'd lost half a stone pre Christmas but have put it all back on plus a few pounds in apparently less than 10 days. Feel absolutely awful.

Want to lose 2.5 stone in total. Need support!

BoraBora Sat 29-Dec-12 20:26:15

Oh and please add me - I don't know how to do it! My name's Sastra over there smile

BoraBora Sat 29-Dec-12 20:30:26

Oh, and I'm also a runner. Had hyperemerisis during pregnancy so had to stop, but getting back into it now. God I've missed it. Am hating how hard it is and how heavy I feel hmmhmmhmm

Hi Elainey1609 I remember you smile

Welcome BoraBora! I can't work out how to add people I don't know in rl but if anyone else knows please shout. You could join our C25K thread there are some beginners but also those of us who started in January and are building on 5K.

Elainey1609 Sat 29-Dec-12 20:48:28

cinnamongreyhound click on community then the sub heading of find member and you can write in the username ...hope that helps, thats how i add anyway

Level3at6months Sat 29-Dec-12 21:52:42

Well it's only been two days but I'm loving MFP. Really hope I can keep using it. It's motivated me to get back to the gym and start running again - on the treadmill, which I hate, but once I'm back to running 10 mins without dying, I'll get out there again. I was horrified how tough it was to run for 1 minute when I used to be able to just about keep going for an hour, but I know it'll come back if I keep it up.

jchocchip Sat 29-Dec-12 22:49:29

I did well over Christmas, trouble is my db has sent an enormous box of chocolates and we need to get them eaten before new year, don't we???

Hi to new peeps - I'm same name as on here, still have loads to lose so add me if you like. I lost a few stone between December and March, slowed down a lot once back at work, put some back on in September and now losing again.

BoraBora Sun 30-Dec-12 10:18:48

So I'm trying to decide whether to start tomorrow (as Monday is the starts date of the site) or Tuesday, the first. What do you reckon?

MegBusset Sun 30-Dec-12 10:48:10

Well I have woken up with the stomach bug the kids have had over Xmas so reckon I'm getting a head start sad

wheredidiputchristmas Sun 30-Dec-12 11:36:37

Bora me and DH are starting again on the 2nd, as we still have a few treats left to eat and I'm doing roast shoulder of Lamb on the first and today we having Beef and Mushroom suet Pudding for dinner.

wheredidiputchristmas Sun 30-Dec-12 11:37:26

Sorry you not well MegBusset, we had it before christmas.

It depends on your willpower and what's left in your house BoraBora? If you have stuff to finish up and you'd rather eat it all than have a little each day or just have it laying around then wait. I had nothing in the house when I started but got stuff for Christmas (6 weeks after start) and I managed to have one or two bits a day and still be under each day.

Wishing you well soon MegBusset!

jchocchip Mon 31-Dec-12 19:04:45

oops over already and not yet had tea... Won't go mad but will have some extra and stay up till midnight, Happy New Year everyone wine smile

Happy New Year all smile I am new, have baby weight to lose dating back to my 2.9 year old!

I started MFP today for the second time and would love some company on there... Same user name.

I am determined to stick it out this time, low carbing for a couple of weeks to kick start weight loss & promote ongoing motivation! Then hopefully will have broken my sugar habit and be able to maintain a long term healthy diet. It used to be so easy! I need to get back into the head space of treats being occasional rather than a daily occurance!

BoraBora Tue 01-Jan-13 14:13:40

Hi Dharma, I've just added you smilehow much do you have to loose? I'm losing baby weight too.

lunar1 Tue 01-Jan-13 14:57:58

Can you add me too im Lunar1980

Currently 246lbs, i have set my goal to reach 199lbs for now. I think i will get the tape measure out when i have got the boys to bed tonight. might even get DH to take a headless pic on my phone for extra motivation!

Will be great to have some company.

Thanks BoraBora

I didn't actually know when I posted this morning blush but have since weighed myself for the first time in over a year and found out it's just over 2.5 stone. Eurgh. Can't believe I've been ostriching for so long! But equally, here I am now, determined to kick ass... Preferably my own!

BoraBora Tue 01-Jan-13 16:18:50

Sounds like we're in a similar position Dharma.

Have added you Lunar smile

Have you started today? How's it going? Going okay for me, but I would rather like some cake!

lunar1 Tue 01-Jan-13 18:10:24

It's going ok, it's just all the leftover Christmas stuff that's the problem! Have put most the chocs in a bag for dh to take to work tomorrowgrin

Day One down, many more to go!

An alternative way for people to add via user name is to go to the add via email page, once there the app gives you the option of using email address or user name. It's worked for me, anyway!

Thanks to those who have added me or responded to my request,I think the cheerleaders are going to make a huge difference!

claretandamberforever Tue 01-Jan-13 20:34:50

Count me back in!

I really want to learn to eat healthily. I'm sick of fad diets and meal replacement diets (and it's only day 1!) so as of tomorrow I want to eat normal and lose weight. I accept it's probably going to happen really s-l-o-w-l-y and I'm one of those people who wants instant gratification. I'm on a budget so can't really eat much fresh food or it'd cost me a fortune - any tips?

momoland Tue 01-Jan-13 22:41:37

Hey all have used mfp before but not seriously. Determined to loose at least 21Ibs. Would it be cool to add some mfp buddies for support. Feel free to add me and give me tips and a row if I'm being bad lol. User name is monzaponza smile

renaldo Wed 02-Jan-13 08:14:17

Please cn I join? I'm carriemacer on MFP and I'm trying to lose 10kgs by Easter

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Wed 02-Jan-13 08:23:14

Hiya, can I join please? I had DD2 towards the end of September and have 2 stone to lose, hopefully most of it before I return to work in June. I've started the C25K programme and MFP as of yesterday, would be lovely to have some support/arse kicking smile

My username is Trolleybird.

wheredidiputchristmas Wed 02-Jan-13 08:35:45

Right I'm back.

I've just put back on 2lbs. Haven't weighed myself for about 3 weeks, although it's also the time of the month so it may just be that.

I'm power1969 on mfp.

lunar1 Wed 02-Jan-13 09:56:12

Well managed a good healthy breakfast, I wonder how I'm going to add 2 hrs of soft play hell with a ds1&2 to my exercise diary today, it must count for something!

Lunar1980

RGPargy Wed 02-Jan-13 09:57:44

Morning everyone!! Blimey, lots of newbies here - hello and welcome. Feel free to add me on mfp - usually log in every day (except when I am too hungover and then forget to log in and loses 365 day count blush). Same user name as here. grin

Melissakitkat Wed 02-Jan-13 10:13:15

Hello, can I join please. Have been doing ivf for the past 2 years (unsuccessfully) and each time have put on half a stone so need to lose 3 stone at least :0( so am starting with mfp and hoping to start running next week once daughter is back at school. 2013 is going to be my time for claiming my old body back!!!! :0) have also ordered that shred DVD - so am trying everything as tried sw and ww last year but weight seemed to sit at the 13stone mark. Would be great to meet some more people on mfp - very excited by how it seems to work xxx

Hello all and happy new year! I finally dared to step on the scales this morning and the Christmas damage is half a stone. blush

Great to see so many new names. I'm back on the wagon as of today and have another 2 stone to lose, I think. Thankfully my body is crying out for healthy things after the assault of chocolate, cheese, crisps, biscuits and alcohol over the past few weeks so it shouldn't be too bad.

I'd like to have the last bit off my May, which will hopefully mean 5 stone lost in a year. smile

Helloooo! Been back on MFP for 5 days now after a few months away (realized it was taking over a little bit!) and filled with a new determination. Two very good friends are getting married in March, and I'd like to be a size 14/top end of size 12 by then.

BoraBora Wed 02-Jan-13 11:44:47

Ello everyone!

Pleae do all add me - don't ever seem to have time to fire up the laptop with my 9 week old!

OneTwoOrThree Wed 02-Jan-13 13:13:41

<sneaks back in to mark place>

Fell off the wagon in Sept with only about 9lb to lose. Back on it yesterday and now have 1st9lb to lose.

I've got the same name on MFP if anyone wants to add me.

jchocchip Wed 02-Jan-13 20:01:31

Hello everyone. I'm logging at the mo, but going to cut out all the rubbish and eat healthy ie no chocolate from next week...

<Sneaks back in after a four month absence sabbatical and realises no-one remembers her...>

'Tis me, petd on mfp.
Am starting again on the 7th, when I am back at work. Needed some time out, was resenting logging, had other stuff going on, it became too hard. But will be back with a vengeance next week.

Hope you are all well and had a good Christmas and New Year smile

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Wed 02-Jan-13 20:28:08

Just accidentally posted on the wrong thread blush

Was wondering if there's a way MFP can take into account if you are bf as I've stuck to my calorie allowance today but feeling really quite dizzy and sick, then it occurred to me I should probably not be ignoring that I'm ebf my 3 month old but I don't know how to adjust it, anyone else know?

I've been very good today and actually enjoyed my food too which surprised me. Swapped the coke for water too which is probably half my problem!

Thanks to everyone who has added me, I'll try and get round to adding everyone else soon too smile

Welcome to all the new ladies and welcome back to all the returning ladies, I remember you all! For those that don't know I've been on mfp for getting on for a year. I lost 5st 10 from nov-July and am now maintaining. Took the plunge to stop logging in November and so far doing well have gained 3lb over Christmas but that will be off once I get back to school runs. Feel free to add me I try to pop in and support where I can, mfp really works smile

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Wed 02-Jan-13 21:08:13

Wow cinnamon that's a fantastic weight loss, really inspiring!

BoraBora Wed 02-Jan-13 21:13:17

Hey Heffa, I'm EBF too smile how old's your DC?

If you search for breastfeeding it comes up and you can log it. It adds an extra 500 cals to your diary. Yay!

BoraBora Wed 02-Jan-13 21:13:58

Just seen that you said 3m earlier. I've got a 9 week old DD.

OneTwoOrThree Wed 02-Jan-13 21:36:03

Aaahhh, petd / locknumbernine - I think our absences sabbaticals must have been at the same time! As far as I'm concerned you've never been away!

It's the end of day 2 for me, and after some earlier musings about trying something radical (ie lo carb etc) to kick start the diet, I got to lunchtime and realised that I don't want to do something that extreme. So I'm sticking with calorie counting only.

It's going to be harder this time for me, as when I was last here I was exclusively breastfeeding, so ate an extra 500 cals a day and still had good losses. My baby is now 9 months and I'm down to two breastfeeds a day (first thing and last thing) although he often isn't that interested in his bedtime feed strange baby. MFP says that feeing a 9-12month old or an older baby earns 200 calories a day - hopefully that's true! A weird part of me thought about expressing and dumping milk just to earn extra calories, but that's clearly insane

So, I'm back. I've 1st 9lb to lose (having somehow ahem gained a stone during my sabbatical. The baby will be 1 at the start of April and I'd love to have lost it all at least 1st by then. <kicks self up ass>

I bf both of mine OneTwoOrThree and gained weight with every feed they dropped! I loved ebf, I ate sooooo much chocolate and didn't gain any weight. Having lost weight in both pregnancies I thought it was great. 200 sounds quite a lot for 2 feeds but you'll have to see how you get on smile

lunar1 Wed 02-Jan-13 22:04:27

Managed to keep under my calories today, not got much done in the way of exercise though! Its nice having people to share this with. Every time I have thought of eating something I thought about how much it would add to my calories.

I have only ever tried to lose weight alone before, I'm hoping this will motivate me to last more than a weeksmile

Hello OneTwoorThree I think we were also always a day or so behind each other on the day-counter thingimijig werent' we?
Well done on starting already. I am still on holiday until the 7th (work in a primary school) and there is still a lot of chocolate to scoff so I am still having a few indulgent days (there is some Baileys left which needs finishing wink )

Will be back in earnest on Monday! Strangely looking forward to it smile

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Thu 03-Jan-13 03:23:58

Brilliant, thanks bora I've added it on, suddenly my chocolate scoffing yesterday doesn't look so bad after all!

BoraBora Thu 03-Jan-13 11:38:48

Haha! It does make you hungry doesn't it huffa, just a shame it's not hungry for vegetables!

addictedismoving Thu 03-Jan-13 12:23:15

hi sorry, occasional lurker, but had a quick question, I've started jillian michels 6 week 6 pack, but cant find it on the excercise section to add it in, is it there? or should I forget adding it and carry on anyway?

sorry as you were ladies

Oh BoraBora have just clicked - as well as having the same amount of weight to lose, we also both had hyperemesis!

Have never met another fellow sufferer, have never heard of it until I was hospitalised! Thought I was just a wuss with a bad tummy bug blush Was too early for me even to POAS.

lunar1 Thu 03-Jan-13 13:06:53

Another hyperemisis sufferer here, with ds1 I has lost 35 lbs by 20 weeks! All kept back on pretty quickly though.

I have just done one of the Davina workouts from her free app, had to add it as general aerobics though as they don't seem to be on there.

focuson Thu 03-Jan-13 14:06:17

Hi can I join in - just rejoined mfp (user name monro3) not a great deal to loose. 3 years ago lost 3 stone on food focus - 1 stone crept back on so now want to get back to under BMi of 25 - start weight 9 stone 12 - want to get to 8 stone 12 and going on hols 11th feb so want to get rid of 8lb in next month. Went to gym this morning and class tonight am on a mission!! Oh ps am very short at 5foot 1.

focuson Thu 03-Jan-13 14:10:57

Oh and welcome friend requests user name monro3 thank you!

BoraBora Thu 03-Jan-13 19:44:49

It's the pits isn't it? I had it all the way up to and including labour hmmhmmhmm

It's so fair I put weight on! The only way I can explain it is like having a shitty hangover, the only thing that made the nausea better - and I mean for a few minutes - was junk food. Would throw veg up straight away. God, it was awful. I feel sad thinking about that nine months. I had a weird, physical flash back of the sickness the other day. Dark, dark times.

Weekipper Thu 03-Jan-13 20:18:22

So positive point: I've logged everything I've eaten for 6 days.
Negative point: I can't seem to stop after dinner and the Christmas choc calls.

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Thu 03-Jan-13 21:12:09

A good day food wise today, although I still feel a bit like I'm cheating with all those extra bf calories. I've logged today's meals and there's still quite a lot left so I'm looking forward to a mince pie later on as a treat smile Probably blow my remaining allowance on it though...

addicted sorry I don't know about that particular one, is there a similar option you can enter instead?

Post it as a question on mfp too addictedismoving. I would suggest just looking for the closest alternative.

Welcome focuson!

I would suggest eating them all and then not buying anything weekipper, I started by having nothing in the house and then slowly reintroduced. I replaced chocolate with low calorie hot chocolate, fills you up and helps with need for sweet.

javotte Fri 04-Jan-13 13:19:38

Long-time lurker here. weekipper, brushing my teeth as soon as possible after dinner solves the problem for me, because I am too lazy to brush them a second time.
I am fatjavotte on MFP.

lunar1 Fri 04-Jan-13 16:58:56

Kipper, my bad times in the day are about 3pm and 10pm, I have started trying to keep myself busy at those times. It will be better next week when I have the school run to keep me busy.

I agree lunar I tend to want to snack between 3pm and 10pm as well. I find I have a bovril drink when dc have their tea. And after mind and DH dinner I try to do some cross stitching as I can't eat and sew at the same time.

10pm!! I'm going to bed at that time! Mine's about an hour earlier and in the afternoon when the kids are napping so 2-3. Hot drinks are good but tea often makes me want chocolate/cake/biscuits too.

BoraBora Fri 04-Jan-13 18:41:23

Can you perhaps have dinner later in the evening and plan in a snack at 3pm?

sparkleshine Fri 04-Jan-13 20:53:12

Hiya ladies smile
(Very) long time no see. Not been on here at all for weeks now. I've really not had any motivation to lose weight and been so lax in my diet and the food I eat its unbelievable.

So anyway I'm owning up and I weighed myself on New Year's Day. I've put 15lbs on!!! Yep a whole stone since I stopped counting properly and stopped logging my food down. It's been about 2 months now. So it really goes to show that I'm one of those people that just can't ever relax again for a period of time. Luckily my clothes still fit but I could tell weight had gone on.
I'm so gutted and disappointed in myself. After losing 80+lbs in a year and 4 dress sizes its a big blow. I've not been to the gym either in all this time.

So a new year and going to get back on track. Got to lose that 15lbs + the other stone I had to go.

Hope everyone's Christmas and new year went well. Good luck on your weight losses this year smile

Welcome back sparkleshine, just commented on your mfp post. You'll do great again like you did before. Sorry you're disappointed but think of how many years your were overweight and how long you've not been. My mum found photos from when I was 10 we were looking at last weekend and I was so sad, how did she let me get so big?!? I have control over what my kids eat and never let them overeat, what I do as an adult is up to me but I will not let them be fat kids to be picked on. I hope that now I am eating the right way I can teach them the right way to be for their whole lives. Sorry that turned a bit preachy but I just wanted to say I know what it's like to change what you've always known, I know I'm not going back but some days it's a struggle!

focuson Sat 05-Jan-13 09:59:01

Thank you for the welcome! Day 3 for me - sparkle shine when you get back into zone it will all drop of (wow at 80lb year). My dp is v tall and skinny and both ds taken after dad - the prob with this and ds1 has type1 diabetes is meal times quite carb heavy as ds1 very sporty and needs carb and cal heavy meals to maintain weight and not loose. I have been cooking stew and chilli batches so boys can add loads of rice and I just have it ith little rice and loads salad. Need motivation big time as trying to loose around a stone to get back to a BMi of around 23-24 where I look my best and can wear my lovely new clothes. Having hovered around BMi of 30 for near on 7 years the past 2.5 years have been so liberating and I am determined to not go back! Thank you again

Hi all

I've been using MFP since Wednesday but am concerned I've set it wrong.
I input my current weight, and what I want to weigh etc as it asks to.

It then tells me I need to eat no more that 1,200 calories per day.

It then says if I do this I should "gain" rather than lose weight. But I've not asked it to tell me how to gain!

Any suggestions?

cece Sat 05-Jan-13 17:21:19

Can I join in? I am friends with cinnamon on mfp and a couple of others but had a really bad two weeks. I have put on 5 lbs and can really feel it. I was about half way through my weight loss and have about another 2 stone (or so) to go. I am aiming for a healthy range bmi.

My mfp name is ytrewq10

FellowshipOfFineFellows mfp seems to have a minimum of 1200 calories I would guess without any other info that your bmi is quite low and that even with 1200 calories you would be gaining weight? What is your weekly loss set to? And your activity level? Even when I was getting to the end of losing at 9 1/2st at 5'5" I was on lightly active and losing 1/2lb a week and I could have 1500.

Hi cece, that 5lb will be off before you know it!

Thanks cinnamon I had put my weight in wrong!
All done now.
I'm 14 stone and want to be 9.
Have pledged to do 30 minutes exercise 5 times a week. Seem to be doing OK so far.

BoraBora Sat 05-Jan-13 21:50:40

BF ladies...are you set to lose 1lb or 2?

MegBusset Sat 05-Jan-13 22:05:36

I've just reset to lose 1lb a week (1200), had been on 1/2lb (1420) but nothing's shifted this week so will try to give things a kickstart for a week or two.

I'm not BFing though and only have 3-4lbs to lose.

foreverondiet Sat 05-Jan-13 22:59:14

Hi all! I am back blush as gained just over half stone in latter part of last year. Doing mfp with low(ish) carb unprocessed food.

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Sat 05-Jan-13 23:31:20

I'm on 1lb a week as although a lot to lose I've got til June to do it and hoping that's reasonable.

Have been very lax with my diary this weekend, must improve next week.

Hope everyone's doing well smile

lunar1 Sun 06-Jan-13 09:22:19

6 days in and I have lost 5lbs, probably mostly water but I'm happy. My calorie limit is quite high at 2000 but I have so much to lose and am quite active as I walk 6 miles a day for the school run.

I did think about reducing the calories but I need to make sure I can stick to it. I'm sure in a few weeks I will have got used to eating less and at that point I will probably reduce the calories, I have been under by a few hundred every day though.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Today will be a test for
My, shopped yesterday so we have loads of food in, including large amounts of reduced Christmas goodies that dh picked up confused

Groovee Sun 06-Jan-13 10:21:22

Hi everyone,

I've had a dodgy 3 weeks but I have a new starting weight from today and am sorted with being back on plan. I have 24 weeks until we go to Florida. Shopping done, fruit all prepped and daily food planning done.

I've taken my measurements for today and will go from there.

Hope you are all well. Welcome to anyone who is new. I am Grooveecar on MFP if anyone would like to add me.

magicalrealistmum Sun 06-Jan-13 10:34:57

Hi all
a belated happy new year!
I am an mfp user (DizziD) and occasional poster on this thread- I am most inspired and motivated by all your losses and tips when I get chance to logon. Feel free to add me on mfp.

I have lost about 11lb with mfp and have the same amount to go. I have gained 5 lb in last couple of months, so would like to get this off first. I aim to log daily and reduce sugar/carbs. I am of an age when all excess calories seem to go straight to fat.......... After a certain age I think you just need to eat less to stay the same weight!

My aim is to introduce one more exercise (swim/gym/class) and to watch my evening calorie intake. I am back at work tomorrow and I cycle there and back (5 miles a day). I will spend the next few weeks trying to find an optimum time to fit in a couple of swims. At the moment I am favouring weekend mornings. How do others fit in exercise when working full time with family?

well done on your loss lunar

I go to running club once a week which is 6.30-7.30 Mon or Weds and that day dh does dinner and I get in just to put boys to bed. One other evening I run after they've gone to bed and then one run at the weekend, which over the last few weeks has been 8.30am Saturday magicalrealistmum.

Confitdecanard Sun 06-Jan-13 10:59:25

Hi all, I am completely new to this but going to give it a go. I am just over 13 and a half stone and would like to be ten. Haven't really got to grips with mfp yet but thought if I posted on here one or two people might join me for the ride. My username is the same as on here.

It told me off yesterday for not eating enough calories. I had 3 meals in the day as normal but have cut out biscuits and crisps, swapping for sultanas to snack on instead.

I also found out my actual weight yesterday, dp said our bathroom scales were buggered but I thought he was trying to make me feel better! Weighed myself on a proper scales and instead of weighing 14 stone I weight just over 12. Given me even more momentum to lose 3 stone now.

MegBusset Sun 06-Jan-13 16:17:30

Wow two stones instant loss, that's great grin

BoraBora Sun 06-Jan-13 16:32:41

Am going to start a Pilates with babies class tomorrow. Weirdly anxious and nervous! What's that all about??

That's the quickest I'll ever lose two stone. Unless I win the Lottery and have lipo.

mrsnec Sun 06-Jan-13 19:30:08

Hi All, am new to this thread and new to MFP can I join you? Put in all todays food and activity and I have about 500 cals left? Might have an extra snack but it says my weight loss will slow down if I don't consume their calculation. This has probably been discussed before but what's the general opinion on this? I'm mrsnecincy on mfp.

MrsN I would snack if you're hungry, not snack if you're not! I don't think there's a rule or anything though, if you've eaten enough to be full then fab.

My question for the more knowledgeable - I have lost 2.2 kg which I have tracked on the chart tab, but my profile is still showing as no loss! Anyone know why? All my settings are to share with friends, and I don't understand! <wails>

It's all about wounded pride... I've lost weight dagnabbit, I want to see that in writing!! wink

mrsnec Sun 06-Jan-13 20:14:05

Thanks it's just a bit confusing as it altered my target and I know a lot of the well known diets bang on about eating more to achieve goal. Was a bit peckish had something small but I'm leaving it at that. I'll get used to it. Don't know anything about the technical side but that would annoy me too and well done!

jchocchip Sun 06-Jan-13 20:37:22

Marking place. Must clear out all the chocolate and start eating cleaner... Maybe I'll even dust off the shred ooer confused

What is your starting weight DharmaBumpkin? Is it different to your current weight? Did you click accept after you put your new weight in? Other than that I don't know what could be wrong.

mrsnec the theory is that you should not go under 1200 calories or you will put your body into starvation mode but other things say that starvation mode kicks in much lower, thinking about the 5:2 diets. I don't think it hurts now and again but on a diet lower than that it is very difficult to be eating enough to get all the protein, vitamins and minerals you need every day.

Have fun BoraBora, I did baby yoga with my first and loved it. Didn't really make any friends from it but ds1 and I had great fun. Couldn't do it with ds2 as I only had 3 weeks off so bought a dvd and we did it at home smile

mrsnec Mon 07-Jan-13 05:55:11

Thanks cinnamon. I read the 5:2 thread and it was the science behind that that confused me. When I had my extra snack it took me between 1200 and my 1600 goal so I'll aim for something like that. Thanks for your help everyone.

Starting weight 3 kg more than my current weight, entered all losses & clicked accept, and my graph is showing the right weights, so I don't know what happened!

Stupidly, it updated today after I entered a weight loss, saying that I lost 0.6kg today and have lost 0.4kg to date! Yeah that makes sense!

Still am happy that it's updating now smile

lunar1 Mon 07-Jan-13 09:15:19

First full week for me, looking forward to getting into a proper routine when ds1 is back at school on Wednesday.

Going out for lunch today so having a very light breakfast! Hope everyone is doing ok. If anyone wants to add me it's Lunar1980

mutley1 Mon 07-Jan-13 17:51:03

Hi all just joined mfp today my username is bradleybananas can anyone tell me how I add other people?

lunar1 Mon 07-Jan-13 18:23:52

Of you go to the friends tab, then add friend. Type the username into the email address bit

sparkleshine Mon 07-Jan-13 22:05:48

Hiya ladies and all newcomers. Welcome to MFP.

Well today day 1 back on the diet. So far so good. My SIL has re-started back on it as well following the birth of my niece 12 wks ago. She lost 4 stone at the same time as me before she got pregnant and has 2 stone to lose. It really helped having someone to do it with, which is prob why I went off the rails.
Also decided to scrap the gym and go walking/running instead. Much cheaper. I just have no confidence to go out in public with my flabby bits jiggling and feel like people are watching me. How do you get past that?
Also gonna take my son for swimming lessons so that's a little more excersise too.

I wouldn't go below 1200 cals a day. I'm trying to stick to 1300-1400 and that seems to help me. But then it depends on how hungry you are. As the days go by you will get to know how much you and your body can tolerate without feeling hungry. To suddenly go from normal eating to 1200 a day is a huge drop. Healthy snacks help to build the cals without feeling full. Dried fruit is great to pick at.

Day one done. I had forgotten how hard I this is.... Really struggled and got very hungry after dinner.

I hope I get back into the swing of it again soon.

Groovee Tue 08-Jan-13 08:49:20

Morning all

Finding eating hard as I am on antibiotics which need me to eat for each tablet which is 4 times a day. Finding it hard to have the right amount of food to stop me feeling bleurgh.

But not as hungry as I once was.

But how do you add people via their username? Mine is only letting me add emails or facebook.

mrsnec Tue 08-Jan-13 09:36:47

Hi, I've been on steroids for the past 2 weeks and have had the same problem. Taking them with milk and not water was the answer for me. Well done for staying on track. It's even harder when you're on medication or not at your best health wise I think.

I was hungry for most of the day for about 3 weeks when I first starting cutting my portions and snacks but from then your stomach and body is used to it. I now can't eat as much which helps me maintain weight, ayne better for those bothered by being hungry to reduce calories more slowly.

Go to email and when you get there it gives the option of username as well as email Groovee smile

WiseKneeHair Tue 08-Jan-13 14:04:35

May I join?

I've had the MFP app for a couple of years, but never added any friends or really used it.
I need to lose about 2.5 stone and have lost 2.5 lbs in the last week, so a start I guess grin
I'm also shredding and on a support thread on here for that, but think I need some eating support too.
My username on MFP is HappyKite. I don't have any friends at the moment sad, so if anyone would like to friend me, I would be delighted.
i'm going to go through this thread and copy all the names, so expect requests! hopes someone accepts my requests

Wise I haven't found how to add anyone, but feel free to add a fellow billy-no-mates! I'm TheLazyGirl on there grin

WiseKneeHair Tue 08-Jan-13 14:55:17

I've got 3 friends already grin
Thank you. don't know how to use the site yet, but I'll learn.
FOFF, I've sent a friends request.
I've been clicking on the find friends, then e-mail button, then at the top one of the options is "Find Members", if you click on that, one of the options is putting in the username you are looking for. I do think it's not particularly user friendly though.

OneTwoOrThree Tue 08-Jan-13 15:15:23

Nice to see it getting busy on here
- old faces, and new ones (feel free to add me on MFP - same name as here).

I've now done a full week and lost 4.5lbs so am delighted. Tough week ahead with two nights out (dinner and drinks). I don't get out much so want to have something nice and enjoy myself. I'm thinking about trying to 'save up' some calories from earlier days (like you can on WW) to offset the damage, as well as being semi-sensible when I'm out. Wish me luck!

I'm finding exercise difficult to fit in - not easy with two young kids and dark nights. I've been thinking about getting a fitbit, but not sure if they're any good. I think / hope it would encourage me to be more active with the kids (which would be good for then too!). Has anyone got one? Would you recommend it? Are they any good for 'proper' exercise (ie running) or are they more for 'general activity' (ie walking instead of taking car etc).

Groovee Tue 08-Jan-13 16:46:56

Thanks found it now x

damppatchnot Tue 08-Jan-13 21:56:37

I have been trying to lose the weight gained by having three kids in four years last one at aged 40 five years ago but as tall and naturally slim build
I have never been motivated.

I'm a choc/ fizzy drink addict and my father is terminally ill with bowel cancer

As I suffer with severe constipation I have really started to think about my health and found MFP which is changing my life. I currently weigh 12 stone and am 5 9. I liked to get to 10 stone but what has been remarkable has been seeing how unhealthy my eating was and just days into the plan
I'm already feeling changes ( especially bowel ones shock) and feel better for it

My calories are 1200 and I'm finding it easy so far!

DoubleMum Tue 08-Jan-13 22:12:18

Hi, may I join? I'm on the other thread on Chat too, and on MFP I have the same user name. Just started today and lots to lose.

damppatchnot Tue 08-Jan-13 22:16:36

Just sent you link double mum!

damppatchnot Tue 08-Jan-13 22:19:29

The only trouble I find with MFP is that after 3 meals a day and plenty water if I still have calories left I eat a bar of choc!

I suppose that's cheating grin

WiseKneeHair Tue 08-Jan-13 22:24:27

Well, day 1 of properly using MFP over. Thank you, you nest of vipers, for friending me.
I'm amazed at how little some of you eat! I managed to stay under my calories, but only after exercising grin

It's not cheating damppatchnot that's why I love calorie counting if you're sticking to your calorie limit it doesn't matter how you make them up. As long as your realistic about portion sizes of your 3 meals

damppatchnot Tue 08-Jan-13 22:48:55

Oooo great! Yes I had bran and banana breakie, grilled chicken salad for lunch, bag grapes and loads water and not that hungry at tea so dry fried too lean pieces bacon with a tomato and had on dry toast

Feel v full now and still under 1200 (well just 1 grin)</
