Right, Monday is the day for me.
I've written a meal plan and am going to make up my shopping list.
I think i might even spend sunday cooking up my soups and stews for the freezer to make the week less hectic.
I work full time so am going to have to be organised on this one.

Who wants to join me?

nevergoogledragonbutter Sat 14-Nov-09 11:15:35

Is nobody doing the south beach diet?

Leslaki Sat 14-Nov-09 11:28:29

never heard of it, sorry! But good luck!

badietbuddy Sat 14-Nov-09 18:48:54

Not south beach db but I have had incredible success with the idiot proof diet which has a lot of the same principles I believe. You know me better as a small sheep wink and I am vastly reduced thanks to this diet

nevergoogledragonbutter Sat 14-Nov-09 22:08:43

shock
cat me.

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 15-Nov-09 21:15:11

Ok, I'm all set.
My fridge is full of low carb, high protein food. I've cooked up a bean and lentil and ham casserole for tomorrow's dinner plus a few for the freezer.
Eggs for breakfast it is!

Squidmission Sun 15-Nov-09 21:44:55

I'm doing the Zoe Harcombe diet which is a low carb diet. I don't know much about the south beach diet but I can't imagine its that different. I'm going to look it up in a bit more detail.
I'm on another thread too but its gone a bit quiet over there so I'll be more than happy to post here too if you'd like the company.

Tomorrow I've got yoghurt and berries for breakfast, roasted veg and salad for lunch and chicken stirfry for dinnner.

Good luck smile

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 15-Nov-09 21:58:09

Sounds similar, only i won't be having any fruit for the first two weeks.

Stir fry sounds like a good option.

Squidmission Sun 15-Nov-09 22:21:54

I've just been having alook at the south beach diet and it does sound very similar to what I'm doing though I think there are a few more restriction.
Have you done this diet before?

I'm off to bed in a bit. My top tips for succeeding at dieting is good sleep and lots of water smile

nevergoogledragonbutter Sun 15-Nov-09 22:26:43

I haven't done this diet before. A colleague of mine did it and lost loads of weight, although admits to cheating a bit.

Yes, sleep and water. good idea.

nevergoogledragonbutter Mon 16-Nov-09 21:39:19

Day 1. I feel a bit shaky tbh. Dinner was lovely though.
This better be working. <weak smile>

badietbuddy Mon 16-Nov-09 22:33:18

Keep the faith db grin fwiw, I found the first two days the hardest. After that something clicked and I didn't even have to think about it anymore. Make sure you drink plenty of water (which takes a lot of getting used to itself) and you will be rewarded within a fortnight with not only many many pounds gone but lovely skin too

nevergoogledragonbutter Mon 16-Nov-09 22:39:38

i'm going to have to go to bed. if i stay up any longer i'll have to fight my crisps and chocolate craving.

had lots of water today.

Squidmission Wed 18-Nov-09 10:22:52

How are you getting on?
I have been ill for the last couple of days so haven't been sticking to the diet (you need carbs when you're ill!)

This morning I've had yoghurt and fruit for breakfast. I have some chicken and spinach curry for lunch and haven't decided on dinner yet but will probably be salmon and veg.

I'm feeling really bloated today. I hate that feeling. Low carb diets get rid of bloatedness really quickly so I'm sticking to it smile

nevergoogledragonbutter Wed 18-Nov-09 17:57:36

day 2 and i did really well and felt fine until about 9pm last night. then i vomitted lots and wished i hadn't had that mackerel and spring greens with lots of garlic envy

that's not envy, that's boak.

day 3 gave into some fruit this morning and had yoghurt and apple for breakfast.

have felt nauseous all day and can't figure out if it's something i ate, or something i didn't eat, or the swine flu and seasonal flue jabs i had yesterday, or some other bug.

actually eating less due to the nausea but not sure that's a good thing as if it's low sugar that's making me nauseous then i should eat more. hmm

i don't know what to do.

Squidmission Wed 18-Nov-09 20:21:41

Oh no. Poor you! That sounds awful. It could be any of those things.
Can you stomach soup? or dry toast? I would suggest to stick to lots of fluids and soup for a day or so and then get back to the diet when you feel a bit better. Hope you do soon smile

I did my Davina dvd today too grin

nevergoogledragonbutter Wed 18-Nov-09 21:26:17

Here's what i've eaten today:
1 yoghurt and an apple for breakfast
savoury mince and peas for lunch
yoghurt snack
attempted stew for dinner but felt sick
herbal tea and water

it's not enough i know, but food is making me feel sick right now.

Squidmission Thu 19-Nov-09 10:15:00

How are you feeling today?
I've decided to allow mysel carbs for breakfast and then none for the rest of the day otherwise I find it dificult to exercise.
So this morning, I had toast, fruit and yoghurt.
I've got soup for lunch and salmon for dinner.

I'm just going off for a long brisk walk now.

nevergoogledragonbutter Thu 19-Nov-09 17:38:12

Ha me too.
Woke up feeling shaky and had to have some porridge. Couldn't see how i could find the energy to go to work otherwise.

Porridge for breakfast
Carrots and humous for snack
Pea soup for lunch (not nice)
Cheese triangle for snack
Some carb free dinner involving sausages, tbc grin

I feel much much better today and didn't really feel hungry. Have walked past several boxes of chocolates too. Stupid hospitals.

I've loaned my davina to my sister so might ask for it back now the weather is too crap to cycle.

Squidmission Fri 20-Nov-09 10:00:23

Good to hear you're feeling better smile
Keep resisting all those chocs!
Once you get used to it, you won't even notice them. I work in an office where people bring in cakes, chocs and biscuits for any reason whatsoever (We had a big tin of Roses this week 'because they were on special offer' hmm). I never have any of them anymore and its really easy to say 'No thanks' now.
At home is different matter though....

I've had my usual fruit, yoghurt and 1 toast for breakfast, more soup for lunch and chicken and veg for dinner. I'm trying not to snack but if I get really hungry, I have some plain yoghurt.

I'm going to do Davina dvd when ds2 goes down for a nap. I've decided to do it every other day and go for a long walk every other day. I'd definitely get that dvd back, if I were you. The people on the Davina thread in this section were getting some really good results. I was really inspired grin

I'm feeling really good with all this healthy eating and exercise. It makes me wonder why end up going back to bad habits and feeling lethargic and rubbish hmm

nevergoogledragonbutter Fri 20-Nov-09 17:20:23

Well done squid you sound like you're doing really well.

I've had another good day sticking to my now adapted diet. I have to have porridge for breakfast but other than that i'm carb free the rest of the day.

Scales haven't moved for a couple of days though hmm

nevergoogledragonbutter Sat 21-Nov-09 10:36:57

Still hanging in there.
Went for a 10 mile bike ride this morning too. Finally a break in the weather. (i'm near the flooding).
Damn scales not shifting though. Grrrr.

Squidmission Sat 21-Nov-09 10:50:03

You sound like you're doing well too smile
The scales will show a loss - just keep at it. Make sure you're not having too much fat in your diet though as you aren't doing totally carb free. Cut down on butter and cheese etc if you're having them.

I lost 5lbs in 5 days doing that ie porridge for breakfast and then low carb for the rest of the day. I've run out of porridge which is why I've not been having it but intend to get some this weekend.

Today I'm having
toast, cereal bar (it was a disgusting rice krispies one. 37g of sugar per 100g! Yuck. Not doing that again)
Omelette for lunch
Indian take away for dinner. I'll have tandoori chicken, salad and raita.

Keep going grin

nevergoogledragonbutter Sat 21-Nov-09 11:16:29

Ooh, is that a low carb indian order then? is tandoori chicken without sauce. i thought i was going to have to swear off any take away for a long time. that sounds nice.

Squidmission Sat 21-Nov-09 11:50:37

Yes, it is without the sauce. You can have any of the tandoori dishes I think. Seekh kebabs, chicken tikka etc. I think you can also have any other dishes (not potato or lentils) too. Just no rice or breads. I sometimes have chicken curry (tell them not to use much oil) and raita and salad.
I'm not doing strictly Atkins or anything, just low carbs. It still works smile

I make the raita myself - grated cucumber and natural live yoghurt.
