Its really quiet on the weightloss threads at the moment. I've joined a couple of threads but there doesn't seem to be much action on them so I thought I'd start one of my own and see if anyone else is in the same situation.

I'm determined to lose a stone by Xmas and am going to achieve that by basically cutting down on the crap, reducing my evening meal portion, doing some exercise and eating nothing at all after my dinner (I've lost a stone recently but have stayed the same for a good few weeks now)

I will be your buddy.......
i would like to lose a bit more then a stone but it would be a start
this week i have eaten like an angel..
I have been having a bowl of cereal in the evenings.. before i was having crips, choc toast etc!!!!

Excellent. Nice to meet you grin

I actually need to lose at least 2 1/2 stones but I chose 1 stone by Xmas as my next goal.

Toast in the evening is really lovely and comforting but just piles so many pounds on.

I usually eat lots of cake and chocolate in the eve but have cut it out totally. I now exercise instead. I've just got back from the gym and I'm feeling very virtuous grin

Are you following any particular plan?
How much are you looking to lose?

Hello!!

If i lose a stone by Christmas i will fit into my last xmas dress. I cannot afford to buy an outfit for my night out so must must must lose it!!!

I lost almost 4st for my wdding in 2007 and have put on around 1st to 1.5st.

Can I join in?

I'm not sure how much I have to lose, but probably a good couple of stone. I know I've put on even more weight recently as my trusty trousers are tight.

Am planning to go for power walks, do some wii fit, eat lots of veg soup (have just bought a slow cooker) and cut down on wine and attempt to give up chocolate.

Chocolate is my bigest problem.

Shall we have a weigh in day?
How about tomorrow?
We don't have to disclose the weight if we don't want to but can just use it as a marker for how many lbs we lose each week.

If you don't want to weigh yourself, I find that losing a stone for me roughly equates to dropping a dress size (unless you are much taller or shorter than average) so you could make dropping a dress size by Christmas your goal.

I weighed in at 11st exactly.

I've been for a long walk this morning and have managed to eat well.

I used to be so fit.I'd go to the gym in my lunch hr or after work 4-5 times a week, now I feel like I don't have any time. Its really because I don't priotise it. I am definitely making more of an effort now.

Hello, Could I join in please

I do not have any scales at home but weighed myself on Monday on one of those new weighing thingys that Boots have got. Scary!!

It tells you your weight, BMI and bodyfat %.
That was a shocker!!

My starting weight was 11 st 7lbs.

I would love to lose a stone by Christmas to fit into my Karen Millan dress to wear to 2 Christmas parties.

I have done OK this week but my downfall like most of you is the evenings when the children have gone to bed.

Large dinner at around 8pm, wine and chocolate. Can't eat earlier as DH is not normally home until 6.30pm.

Need to do more excercise too. Have got a Wii fit just need to gwet on and use it.

I also want to start swimming again as I love that.

Good luck everyone x

its not easy though.

MaggsS - You just need to go cold turkey and cut out the evening junk and definitely ditch the alcohol. Could you limit yourself to a glass on Fri and/or Sat?

I have lost a stone just by doing that (I don't drink at all)

Have a Smaller dinner and fill your plate with veg.

Hermyke - whats the juicemaster regime? (I don't have a juicer. Is it worth getting one?)

Thanks Tyme.

I have been quite good all week, just one glass of red wine last night.

I have drunk loads of water and hot water with lemon instead of tea/coffee.Only problem is I can't stop weeing!

I am certainly eating more fruit and veg which is an improvement.

Going to find the weekend hard though.

Have been reading the thread on juicing... sounds interesting but don't have a juicer.

Well to be honest my pre-baby weight was well over 1 stone less than now, but just losing a stone will help me feel great in time for xmas and for buying some new winte clothes.

Have a juicer, never used it blush

Its hard to give up the evening snacks especially if you reduce your dinner portion.
I get hungry sometimes and nibble on grapes.

I know this sounds weird but I start feeling pleased if I start feeling hungry as I know that my body will have to burn fat overnight instead of storing it grin

Weekends are always hard but just keep remembering your goal.
Can you hang your gorgeous KM dress in your bedroom so you keep seeing it? Or keep trying it on every few days.

Well done Maggs, keep it up.

I'm feeling pleased with myself, we went out last night and I did have two glasses of wine, but stopped at that (and could have had an awful lot more). However we did have a good old dance, so I'm hoping I danced off a lot of calories.

This morning I did 30 mins on the wii fit and was pleased to see that although I haven't lost any weight since last time I stepped foot on it (about 6 weeks ago) I haven't put any on. I was convinced that I'd gained about another 4 lbs. Can't remember what the weight was though so I'll have a look tomorrow.

I dug out my Paul McKenna make you thin cd and put it on my i-pod and feel really positive having listened to it, so am hoping to find the time to do that every day too.

Tonight will be hard though, we have a familiy tradition of watching x-factor and ploughing our way through a box of chocs. DH and I usually have a glass of wine or two. Fingers crossed.

So Catmandu you also have a Wii fit that has been gathering dust like mine blush

What sort of excercise do you do on it?

I love the hula hoop, step and jogging (only a short distance though) Must admit I avoid the muscle workouts but also got quite addicted to the balance games.

You have convinced me to get on it for 30 mins this afternoon as soon as kids have watched there DVD.

Also agreee that Saturday nights are hell for dieters. we love the X Factor and normally have a bottle of wine and a take away. DH has mentioned chinese but I am trying hard to talk him out of it. my find it hard to resist the wine though. hmm

When we got the wii fit (just as it was released) I went on it every day and lost loads of weight, partly the exercise and partly eating well. Then we went on a cruise during half term (thank you MIL) and all went wrong.

I like the boxing the best and step, but I wish it would get harder the hardest level isn't quite tough enough for me. I do the jogging and free step sometimes, but they are very boring. Balance games are very addictive! Am hoping to get back into doing it everyday.

Hello Illegal, Zaksmummy & Solo good to see you, lets all hope we'll be talking near to christmas about our new outfits to match our new figures.

It sounds like everyone has started off brilliantly. Lets keep the momentum going smile

I've stuck to no junk in the evening so far AND my 1/2hr exercise a day vow.

I went out for a 45min walk on Sat and did Davina dvd yesterday. I'll either do a dvd, walk or stepper today depending how the day pans out.

I did drink everynight but I have cut that right down.I think I only had 3 small glasses last week.
I always eat breakfast now. Normally special K and skimmed milk and some fruit.
If I want to snack I have fruit or a yoghurt or a bag of rivitas or the new limbos.
Lunch is normally beans or scrambled egg on toast or sometimes soup and a roll. I have changed to brown bread and cut right back on it. I don't even put any spread on the toast now.
I use sweetners in coffee or tea with skimmed milk.
Tea time is tricky as DH gets home at around 6pm and I normally put our 3 DC's to bed before we have our dinner. i used to pick on there leftovers but now it goes straight in the bin.
I try to keep a box of carrot sticks, celery, baby toms etc in thr fridge just incase I get tempted to eat something I shouldn't and lastly I try and drink warm water with lemon. At least 6 mugs a day. You do get quite a taste for it.
If I do want choccy I have had a 2 fingered Kit-Kat which is only 107 cals.
I hope that helps and I don't sound too smug but I am so pleased with myself today i am determined to go on. grin

I was reading an article the other day about healthy eating/dieting and one of the points was that

Its your choice to follow a healthy eating plan. Its your choice if you fail or succeed.

It made me realise that I was in control of this diet rather than the diet controlling me IFYKWIM. Don't know if it helps anyone else.

I've eaten well today. No more food tonight.

Don't worry, aGal, you can lose that by Xmas! Enjoy you're night away.

I have gone totally off soups. I just can't eat them anymore and I don't know why. I've normally really enjoyed them and haven't been having too many off them to put me off.

They've always been good for helping me in losing weight.

Will have to find other quick low cal lunches.

Hope everyone is being good. Just think of the end results. We will all be gorgeous!! grin

I am a size 12 - 14 at the moment and 2 stone overwieght! (I'm a little person at 5'2"!)

I've been having baked potato with beans for lunch at work and today I have had a quorn thing, a couple of tblsp of veg rice, a banana and an avocado. I am very full.

I want to do some exercise this even but feel grotty with period pains.

Its sunny here too. Maybe we should go for a nice long walk.

I'm 5'3" and a 14. I would ideally like to lose 2 1/2 stone to get to 10 stone.

I had a small sandwich for lunch with a bag of rivitas. Also a 10 cal jelly and I must admit I am full too!

I am drinking loads of hot water with lemon instead of tea or coffee. Apart from always tripping to the loo it seems to keep me feeling fuller for longer.

I need to get excercising. I will walk to pick DD2 up from school later so that's something and hopefully I can sneak in a session on the Wii fit but I have builders here so that may be tricky until they have gone blush

Sorry about the period pains That will be a testing time for me as I just crave chocolate.

Keep up the good work!

I'll make it up with a small early dinner and fruit.

I am also drinking lots of hot lemon water. Are you drinking it first thing too? Its meant to be very cleansing.

Drinking it all day long! Not as nice as a glass of wine but I'm used to it now.

No kids here to wind me up. DS and DD1 are at school.DD2 running a muck at grandparents as I have builders here.

Don't worry about the biscuits, just forget about them and move onwards and upwards

Lucky you Maggs - having some no kids time! I would just get on that couch and watch True Movies! Sad I know but lovely for those period days!

No, I'm not worried about the biscuits. I am really determined to lose this stone.
I'm in the mind set where if I have something bad, then I just cut back on something else and do some exercise.
4 biscuits isn't too bad.

Off to try to do some more tidying!

Hi allnew, congratulations on the birth of your baby, how old is he/she, had twins 12 months again, and in the same boat, still baby weight to lose, i should be about 6 stone, running after these two !!

Thanks kristatwin - ds is 3.5 months (I put on almost half of my pre-pg body weight blush shock)

I am bf and expected weight to fall off but it seems really slow!

I can imagine you must run around a lot with 1 year old twins!

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning and I'm still the same weight! Grrr. I've been so good too!
Is it to do with TOTM? please say it is!

Not giving up - just going to get tougher! Yeah!

I might try a week of juicing. I've had a lurk on their thread and they're getting some amazing results. I might try 3 days actually - a week seems too long.

Hi all, can i join?

My starting weight when I got my Wii Fit was 11,4-ish and my ideal is 8,7! (or 63ish kg and ideal is 54, what i call my wedding weight!).
I tend to weigh myself upstairs in the morning some days and downstairs on the Wii in the evening most days but the Wii keeps a record so i go with that as my official weight really.

Last night i was 10,6 grin and my BMI was in Ideal grin grin the first time since having ds2 in Jan.
I would love to get to 9,7 by Christmas (then allow myself Christmas off, and then lose the rest by my birthday in Feb).

Am cutting down on snacks, drinking (though i don't drink much anyway with bf & being a lightweight!). Not really doing exercise, not got time nor inclination for a gym, though i try and use the Wii in the evenings but it has dropped off recently.

So will add myself if that's ok?

Onestonetogo: starting weight 10st 7lb
Tyme: starting weight 11st
JKS: starting weight 10st 6lb

Yes Tyme I would say it was because of your TOTM.
Keep going and I am sure once things are back to normal you will see some results.

Thought about juicing too but need a juicer. Will look on ebay for one and a copy of the book too x
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Tyme on Thu 23-Oct-08 12:41:12
I have a juicer so I think I'm going to give it a go from tomorrow. Just done an online shop and bought loads of fruit.

Did you find one on ebay?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By MaggsS on Thu 23-Oct-08 13:06:29
Had a look and there is one that looks OK and near to me. Also looked for a Jason Vale book and there are quite a few.

What sort of juicer have you got? Any tips?

I'd love to give it a go. Let me know how you get on.

Can I join in please???

I am tring to lose a stone to a stone and a half before christmas - AND THEN NOT PUT IT BACK ON AGAIN EVER!!!

I have cheated slightly in that my weight loss was kick started at the weekend by a tummy bug. I was 11st 6lb on Saturday (pre bug) then went to 11st 3lb and have managed to lose another 2lb this week by not having as many snacks and cutting down on portion sizes (eating the same amount as DH each night is not good for the waistline!).

Hello Ladies - I've been quiet on this thread because I've been feeling very low this week. I haven't done any exercise and did crack into a bar of Galaxy one day, but considering I'd normally comfort eat I have been fairly restrained.

I'm so glad I came on this thread as I'd have probably given up by now, but this time I've read how well you're all doing and feel reinvigorated.

I'm waiting for a visitor at the moment, but after that I'll drag out the wii fit and get going.

Maggs your 5lb's and the way you're doing it is what's keeping me going at the moment.

Oh bless you CatMandu. I am sorry you have been feeling low,I hope things are better now.

I have been doing housework all morning ( and jumping on here! )

Going to have a bit of lunch soon and may well get 30 mins on the Wii fit before the school run. Not sure what DD2 will think of mummy leaping around the room!! blush

Keep going and remember we are all here for support.

Hi
I want to lose 10lbs but a stone would be even better. I need to lose it by 13/12/08 and for it still to remain lost christmas day.

I weighed myself on wednesday morning and I was 9st 7lb.

Have stopped the evening eating habits ( of chocolate, toast and butter and biscuitss) for two nights now so here is hoping.

Not sure what exercise I can fit in but will try my best to do some walking.

Good luck everyone.

justkeepswimming well done for losing the weight you have so far. A number of years ago I lost a similar amount to your target (went from 11 stone to 8.5), and just did it slowly and steadily, so you target should be doable!

Nice to see lots of new people! Hello all.

Maggs - I have a Jack Lalanne (sp?) one. It was a present and not been used much but I think its quite good.

Everyone seems to be doing really wellsmile

Well done to all of you who have resisted the evening snacks. It is hard, especially if you've had a stressful day as you feel like you deserve a treat. Just remind yourselves that you deserve to be slimmer and happier even more grin

Keep going and no snacking, girls. We can do it!

allnew - have to confess to cheating slightly too as i had a d&v bug that started things off for me (with you Willmouse!)
And i suspect that lots of the weight loss is hormonal rather than actual effort on my part - coming off minipill and having first af since ds2.
af again for me so feeling low on energy and high on snacking-needs grin

trying my best to resist....

Well, I have lost 3lb this week and it will be interesting to see how much of it I put back on over the weekend.

We always have a treat on a Saturday night (on the basis that we never go out) and this week it is a beef wellington from Aldi (oh dear...) and my Gran is treating us to Sunday lunch which is bound to involve a pudding.

I think I will have to eat virtually no calories for the rest of Saturday and Sunday to compensate for two meals.

And I haven't even mentioned wine yet grin

Right I need your help girls.

I am going out Saturday night to the best curry house around. This has been booked for ages and we are going with friends.
I have offered to drive so I will not be tempted to drink.

Can you suggest the best dishes to choose and what can I drink other than diet coke or water?

I am so determined to stick to my healthy eating so could really do with some help here.

Thanks grin

Maggs - tandoori chicken is low (ish) calorie as it is basically marinated and not in a sauce - I really like it too. It usually comes with a salad - which is handy.

Maggs, anything in a tomato based sauce will be lower in calories than any in a cream, coconut milk or yoghurt base. I love indian food,as you can tell by my name!! ejnoy yourself

Oh and rice... plain boiled rather than veg rice or chicken rice etc. I always drink sparkling water with a slice of lemon, find it much better than still water.

Hi everyone!

2lbs off! I am chuffed as I thought yesterday that I hadn't lost anything!

I've been good today and have been for a long walk too.

Maggs - go for something like chicken tikka, plain rice and a side of veg or dahl. You'll be stuffed and won't ruin your diet smile. Oh and ask them to not use too much oil in your side. I always ask and they don't seem to mind.

Don't have diet drinks - aspartame is baaad smile

Have a lovely time!

Well done on the loss Willmouse. Thats brilliant.

Remember girls - 1 stone to lose and about 8.5 weeks left to do it in. smile

Hi, I posted my weight at the start of this thread and was good for two days and then it all went wrong - my mum is ill and I can't visit because I can't afford petrol sad so have been comforting myself with choccy biscuits blush. The plus side is I've done all the school pick ups by walking which is just over 3 miles a day. After reading the thread am feeling more motivated - thanks everyone.
Enjoy the weekend.

Well done for the walking ( bet your children were pleased hmm

Put the choccy biscuits behind you and look forward.

Keep smiling smile

Hope your mum is better Whyme. Don't beat yourself up about it - you obviously needed something to comfort you.
Glad you feel more motivated. Keep posting and we'll keep you on the straight and narrow grin. Well done on the walking.

I've started incorporating juices into my diet. I haven't been replacing every meal. I've been having juices throughout the day and then a small dinner - a bit like doing a slimfast week I guess, but with fresh natural juice instead. So far so good smile. Hopefully I can keep it up for the week.

Hope you all have a good weekend and stick to healthy eating.

1 stone girls! Keep going. Think of those Xmas get togethers and that lovely outfit you want to get into grin

Hi all,

Went into town today so decided to step on the scales. Only 1lb lost since Monday but at least it is a lose not a gain. That's 6lb in total so I am well pleased grin

Went in the Oxfam bookshop while I was there and managed to pick up a copy of Jason Vale's 7lb in 7 days book. It looks new!
Will get reading and I am going to research juicers and hopefully start next week. smile

Maggs- I would be delighted to maintain a 6lb weight loss. I lose 5lb or so in a few days then put it back on within the next few days.

Hopefully this time will be different as not classing this as a diet but rather a new healthy way of life. No eating in the evening!!

Saying that, have just had 3 glasses of red wine, packet of smarties and maltesers. Am just going to have one bad night a week and this is it.

Weigh in on weds morning so am really hoping.

Whyme2 - hope your mum feels better soon.

Tyme - good luck with the juicing.

Mascara- keep trying. a stone is doable.

Thanks colie.

I am really pleased with my new healthy eating and weight loss and I will stick to it.

Went out with friends for a curry last night and was really good.

I drove so only drank fizzy water much to the amusement of my friends ( they said the bill had halfed due to my alcohol ban!) blush

I did have half a popodom and a small bit of naan but stuck to tandoori salmon with salad, plain rice and a coffee.

I was so pleased with myself and had a good evening. grin

Up with dd2 at 5.20am (new time) so looks like it could be a long day!!

Maggs- great willpower. Lol at your bill. At least you are doing your bit in making savings with the credit crunch being what it is grin.

Had a few maltesers yesterday, well cause they were staring at me in the box every time I opened the fridge door.

Also, eat my dinner later than usual, 8pm rather than about 6pm. On the plus side, didn't have potatoes or chips with my steak, just salad. Am very proud of myself.

How has everyone else got on over the weekend?

All sounding good & positive on here smile

I am still slowly losing, yippee!
Being good, Dh bought me 2 biscuits with my cup of tea yesterday and i only ate one, made him put the second one back! unheard of, not sure he really believed me grin
was below 66kg (65.8) this morning, will have to get on the Wii later, haven't done it for a few days.

Am still allowing myself some chocolate - but normally only 2 or 3 squares at a time, Dh can't cope with that either, lol!

Should we post starting & current weights again?

JKS starting 10st 6lbs current approx 10,5 tbc later!

Well done everyone else too - its all looking good and positive grin

Dh has told me that I look like I've lost loads of weight and that my face seems to have slimmed down. Yippee! I'm getting some results. I've been able to wear a top today that was tight 2 weeks ago!

I think I'm going to carry on with this juice during the day and small dinner routine for the rest of the week.

Keep going girls! 1 stone to lose! We can do it! grin
