I've been on it a year, lost 10 stones and have 2 to go...

Hi ilove,

Well done on losing 10 stone - that's awesome. I'd like to lose about 6 stone and have discovered there's no Lighter Life class near me so am going to start Cambridge Diet on Saturday. Cannot wait.

Tell you what, I'll support you for the final two stone you're losing if you look out for me too?

Hx

cool ilove - I'll record my weight here and actually, I am starting tomorrow (Fri Oct 17) - and you can keep tally on the two stone you're losing (you don't have to put your weight, btw; I am only doing it as seeing it out there, in black and white, may actually make it all a bit real, and make sure I actually do it!

Hi ilove,

Hope you've had a good week with Lighter Life - I started Cambridge Diet yesterday and my starting weight was 15 stone 6 pounds. I never thought I'd ever write that down.

How did you feel when you lost the initial ten stone? Yu must have noticed such a huge difference in your life?

Hope you're okay and hope the final two stone gets going soon...

Started Saturday and after a few horrid headache days, have now lost 8 pounds and feeling great! Do not want to cheat. Loving the shakes and loving getting on the scales each morning, knowing I am heading towards health and a better future. Sounds melodramatic but it's true!

I'm on top of the world today. Dipped under 15 stone - so started at 15 stone 6 pounds on Saturday morning...

and am now 14 stone 12 pounds!

How about you guys?

One week gone and I've lost 9.5 lbs!

Woo hoo - just got back from a ay at the hospital with my son (who has cancer and having his final chemo this weekend) and I've given in a little. BUT not chocolate like I would normally do. But I'm having some chicken and a little cheese...so not bad, but not great. Back on it tomorrow.

Finding it easy to drink the required 3 litres of water though so that's a good thing.

How's everyone else getting on?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummy on Sat 25-Oct-08 20:07:45
I started on Monday and am down 8lb already!! I was told hat you no longer had to drink a certain amount of water - just enough to keep you hydrated and tea and coffee was included. When I did this last year you had to drink 4 litres aday over and above tea and coffee. Felt like I was never offthe loo!! grin

LMM- what was your start weight? that is a great loss for a week

I am toying with cambridge diet just for a few months..

i have lost a few stone with dieting but it is so slow...

So how much are they suggesting you drink and how much have you been drinking,

Cambridge diet they say 2 litres of water a day
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummy on Sun 26-Oct-08 17:49:57
Sealion - am too embarrassed to say blush but put it this way I have about 9 stone to lose!!

Lighterlife are now saying that you just need to drink enough to keep you hydrated bt I've been finding I've been having about 2 and a half litres in addition to tea and coffee.

How did you get on last night LittleMonkeysMummy (love your name!!)?

I found LL's packets not as 'sweet' tasting as Cambridge and no difference between havinhg 3 or 4 once you get past the first few days with the headaches and hunger feelings.

Shouldn't have had the chicken on Saturday night as it made my weight go up by 2 lbs and then now it's back to me having lost 9.5 lbs over the past 10 days. Which is still good but now definitely will not 'cheat' and have food, especially the amount of chicken I had was probably too much.

ilove - how is your final 2 stone going?

And cheekysealion, there's lots of us here so we can help support you via MN once you decide to go for it. Half term amy be good as the children will keep you busy and so won't be thinking about food? Only the first few days are hard, but once you're through them you're fine. Imagine, in the next week or two you could start losing weight, and alot of it!

Well done LittleMonkeysMummy - that is awesome. Bet you're looking forward to this week and losing some more. You've already lost nearly 11% of the weight you wanted to lose. Awesome!

Stupidly that chicken I had on Saturday has meant I have still lost 9.5 lbs in 10 days, but hey, I'm not complaining. Really wanted food today for some reason. Not emotional eating but very hungry despite 3 soups / shakes and 4 litres of water!!!

Anyway, best of luck this week and let's keep going.

Yey, I was weighed officially last night and had lost 12.5 pounds not the 9.5 lbs I had thought. Now this morning I've lost another 1.5 lbs so that a stone in 13 days. Happy? Me? Yeap!

Any news on how others are doing?

That's fab Sanders! I must admit I've found this week hard going. I was 30 on Wed and all m pressies seems to revolve around food or drink. Am sitting here with 5 boxes of choccies staring at me. Help!! sad
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hsanders on Sun 02-Nov-08 23:19:01
shock Not sure what I'd have done with 5 boxes of chocolates before I flciked that switch in my mind which said 'I am going to be slim and healthybefore my next birthday (April)'. I certainly would not have still had 5 boxes in front of me 5 days after my birthday!!! So well done for that!

Happy Birthday LittleMonkeysMummy but beware the chocolate grin - just because it's there, does NOT mean you have to eat it.

I read somewhere that for every time you 'cheat' or go 'off diet' you're putting back your weight loss by another week. So even if you have a few chocolates, you're wasting another week.

Why not keep them somewhere where you cannot reach them or give one or two boxes to a friend for Christmas? Sounds silly I know, but you can do this but not if you dive into any of the chocolates. Perhaps also let people know before Christmas that whilst you'd love a gift, please, please, please can it NOT be chocolate as you're trying to shed some weight!! If people care enough, they'll listen to you. Having said that, I know for sure that my MIL will never listen to me and always buys me Toblerone like it's going out of fashion, just because I once said it was nice! I'd rather have Borders book vouchers or an iTunes voucher so I can buy some music to exercise to...but she seems to never hear me!

Do keep me posted and apologies if I've come across as nagging you, but you can do this. Save the chocolates for when you've lost your weight. It will still be there when the pounds have come off.

There will always be chocolate!!!!!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummyIsASparkler on Mon 03-Nov-08 11:01:02
Thanks Sanders. Have already wrapped some up to 'recycle' as Christmas pressies - they are now at my mum and dad's house. Gave a box to my friend who has just had a baby and even sent one to my brother in Norway!!!

I had to get rid of them because if I know there is chocolate in the house it will get eaten - also DH is home and Thursday and I know the sadistic sod would have sat and eaten them in front of me grin

I'll have the last laught when I'm thin(ner) and healthy and he a fat basket - hee hee grin

grin grin grin
I am so pleased for you LittleMonkeysMummy who is now a Sparkler!!

If you're anything like me, you'd have wanted to sneak downstairs in the night and eaten a whole box of chocolates only to deny all knowledge and blaim the chocolate monkeys that only come out at night when I'm on a diet!

Well done - there's plenty of time for chocolate once you've got to the weight you want!

I just had notification through the post that my application to run the Bath Half Marathon in March has been successful....urgh! But then it is for a good cause as I'll be raising cash for Clic Sargent who are an awesome charity who have helped our family and my DS so much since he was diagnosed with cancer in May this year.

So now what do I do - not sure if I can train and do CD - perhaps I can do an Add a Meal type week here and there to keep things going in the right direction?

Any answers?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummyIsASparkler on Mon 03-Nov-08 20:53:29
Oh good for you - a half marathon!! You're braver than me bt it is all in an excellent cause!! I'm not sure how CD would work along with training. It's worth asking though. How is your DS?

Had the weigh in tonight so down 5lbs. Am quite impressed as that's jst over a stone in a fortnight (that was my target for a month!!)

How are you getting on?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hsanders on Mon 03-Nov-08 21:03:13
That is brilliant. Just over a stone in two weeks. Brilliant. Especially as it ws yr birthday.

I weigh again officially on Weds so really looking forward to it. Funny that, because I never used to look forward to weighing in night with Weight Watchers or Slimming World.

Just managed to get some nice jeans on one size smaller than the ones I was wearing 2 weeks ago.

My DS is okay although will need another blood transfusion this week. He has a very rare cancer which gives him a 50% chance of reaching his 9th birthday. It's been terrible as 4 days before he was diagnosed, I had bowel surgery which also ended up in a hysterectomy. So our DS is our only child and will only ever be our only child. Terrible. Right, must stop now as getting upset.

But the good thing which has come out if it is I am now taking control of my life and making every single minute count whereas we just kind of bumbled along before. Now I am going to 9 stone instead of nearly 16, I am going to step up and be an active part in this thing called life!

I've been writing a blog if you want to read and see some pics (before and after) of our lovely, brave DS.

It's at http://leosteam.blogspot.com

Have a fab week.

Oh Sanders, have just read your blog - what a lovely wee lad! I love the self portrait photo! I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. Just goes to show that every moment is precious as you never know what is roundthe corner (I work with severly disabled children so am always amazed by every little thing that Zoe does)

How about I sponser you in your half marathon? Let me know how I'd go about it!!

Keep Smiling and have some hgs xxxxx

Ooooh you are lovely! So generous in offering to sponsor me in my bid to run 13 miles and raise cash for Clic Sargent.

I am going to sort out a proper fundraising website so it's all visible and you can make payment securely online, and even opt for GiftAid which means the tax man gives an additional 20% of your donation to the charity also. Early stages as I have only just got the pack!!!!

How's the diet going? Desperately wanting food today for some reason but probably totally linked to emotional state as DS needs blood transfusion tomorrow morning.

Am going for a run tomorrow night. Urgh! Excited but scared too.

Going to do a fab week on CD this next week and try to lose anothe stone by Nov 20th, which then gives me just over one month to lose another stone for Christmas so 3 stone for Dec 25th - and then 4 months until my birthday and hope to be 9 stone or less.

How about you? Do you have targets too?

hi girls (i think!!!)

I have jumped on board since monday so today is day 3.....

start weight was 15.7... i will weigh myself this morning to see what i have lost to keep me motivated..

My main reasons for doing this diet is confidence, as i dont have any...

I am also planning to go on a date on 13th december, which is also helping to keep me focused... In an ideal world i would like to lose 3 stone by christmas but not sure how unrealistic that is..

there was someone on minimins that had lost 3 stone in 5 weeks!!!! OMG

I have been having a shake before work. loads of water at work. soup in the afternoon and hot shake in the evening..

I hear day 3 is meant to be the hardest???? hope not!!

have a great day all

Hi everyone

Sealion - good luck. I find that on LL I can't take the soups (ugh!!) I have the milkshake and down them as quickly as possible grin

Sanders - I hope everything goes well with the transfusion. And the run (you're a braver woman than me!!) I think I'll start with a walk (if it ever stops flipping raining sad)

Losing a stone was my goal for the first month (and did it in a fortnight!!) I'd like to try and aim for another stone by the end of the month. Ideally I'd like to get to about 10 stone or so (well at least a size 12/14)

Here's to a good week!!

Hi cheekysealion (love your name!) and yes, I can vouch that I am a girl...have a feeling that littlemonkeysmummyisasparkler (LMMIAS) is also a girl!!

So how is day 3 working out for you? Any headaches and food cravings? Tired? Well, look tomorrow is better, and then so is the day after that, and then so is the day after that, and it isn't purely because the weight is coming off. It's because you'll just start feeling like you've a bit more energy, and a little smug that although the first 3 days are hard, you're through them!!

Keep going and you've got every reason to hit your target.

LMMIAS - no run tonight as it was a long day at the hospital, made even longer because I stayed up to watch Obama become pres-elect!!

Diet still on and loving it, although feeling very emotional today, and craving comfort food> So my food addiction is definitely complerelt related to how I feel, not what I need. What about you guys?

Love H

I feel fine...

The only problem i have is waking up early like now!!!

I feel like a walking zombie at work although 3 people have commented at work how glowing i look.- i def dont feel it though..

You are right everyday does get easier as you get into a rountine... i have a shake before work , soup when i get in from work at 3.30, and a hot shake in the evening once my children are in bedsmile...

I also have big food issues which is why i like this diet as i compleatly takes food out of the plan, and the losses spur me on..
I will need a way to control my eating once i am at target...

I am not sure what my target weight is, I can remeber being 12 stone which made me a size 14, which would be fab, i am realistic and know i will never be a size 10. which i am fine about... what is you target girls??

People also tell me i look lighter than what i am IYSWIM, think i must have heavy bones!! or maybe that is just an excuse, what i mean is my ideal weight i am told is 10 stone, but to be honest i wont be that i will be so happy with a size 14 i cant see myself being a size 10 ever!!! so my aim atm is 12 stone...

hope you are all doing great smile
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummyIsASparkler on Sat 08-Nov-08 19:20:39
Sealion - lol at the heavy bones comment!! I think I must have the same. I'm currently a size 24 although another girl in my class is about six inches taller than me, weighs the same and is a 28. Hmmm hmm not sure about that one. Heavy bones or else the label fairy has been at my clothes again grin

H - how are you holding up this week? Was reading your blog and laughing at your DS changing the lyrics - he has quite a sense of humour!! I know what you mean about comfort eating - that is seriously my problem!! Are you managing to do any running? Am sooooo impressed!! You've inspired me and I've set myself a target that when I get down to my goal weight Dh and I are going to do something similar to fundraise for charity. When do you think I should mention it to him? Knowing him, on the ay would probably be the best!! grin

Hope your week is going well

LMMIAS and cheekysealion - need your help ladies - totally fallen off the wagon. Having a weekend from hell and craving eveything going including red wine....and I hate drinking!

So what I've done is give in to the cravings (urgh!) but am getting back on the bike tomorrow. Problem is my son has not eaten for about 11 weeks (due to illness, but has been relying on milk daily), and so in an effort to emotionally feel like I was helping, I work up thinking the only way he'd eat is if I sat down with him and had the same as him. And lo and behold, it's worked!!! Great for him, not good at all for me, although he had my chips at lunch, I had roast chicken and salad, and then tonight, I've shared a pizza and a bottle of red wine.

Right back on it tomorrow - I need to lose another 2 stone for Christmas and I am not going to do it feeling sorry for myself and being all emotional. Perhaps next time I feel like that, I'll go for another run and not come back home until the urge has gone....

Wll let you know how that works out!!!

How are you guys doing?

H - it's only one day!! I did this the first time I did LL an I didn't lose weight that week (stayed the same) and only a couple of pounds the following week. And you're doing the right thing getting back on the wagon today. At least you're not sayign "well I've mjessed up today so the whole week might as well go out the window" grin (as I think I have done on EVERY other diet I've done!!)

Given all that you've been throughthe odd slip up is understandable (none of us are perfect after all - as much as we would like to be!!)

lol at going for the run next time - just don't run past the chip shop grin

Good luck today x
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hsanders on Sun 09-Nov-08 09:59:28
Good idea about not running past a chip shop!!!

Right back on it today - started well (had a litre of water before a bar fr breakfast). It does seem that if I drink loads of water first thing, it works well that day.

Got a bl**dy hangover though and only had 2 glasses of red wine - and I am not a drinker. Did help me sleep though!!!

Thanks for your support LMMIAS. I appreciate it very much.

How are you getting on? Determined to have a good week?

Trying sooooo this week - made harder by my DH coming home and sitting with takeaways and making bacon rolls (can smell it now!!) Am getting past it by taking Zoe out for walks (just as well there are no chip shops beside us) grin and keeping busy - don't think the house has even looked so clean (well as clean as it can with 2 cats and my DD) She's into emptying every cupboard and box she can find (takes after her Daddy)

Good luck witht the rest of the week!!

Right I am back on it - the switch has flicked in my head and I've woken up already feeling slimmer - insaid that, the sugar and alcohol headache I had all day yesterday lasted until 4am???!!! Serves me right and I will NOT be breaking the diet again. Did speak with my counsellor too who suggested that if I feel like that again to have an Add a Meal week or day, with 150g chicken breast and some green veg. So will do that for sure next time, if I need it. Breaking the diet like I did made me all irritable and felt rubbish, so it simply was not worth it, and also it may have some bearing on how much I do / don't lose this week??

Urgh..

Anyway, it's behind me now and this week I am training three times despite the rain so that will help focus me for sure.

In asnwer to cheekysealion's question about targets, here you go;

Started at 15 st 10 lbs
Am now 14 st 8 lbs

and am going to get to;

12 st 8 lbs for Christmas Day

followed by;

8 st 8 ls (or 9 st if I feel hapy there).

I am only 5 ft 4 inches and have a slim build...usually. When I met my husband 11 years ago, I swam daily, wore size 10 clothes and was very healthy most of the time. I also weighed under 8 stone and did not look skinny. I won't be there again, but cannot buying size 20 clothes and I cannot keepling on food help my emotions.Food is only fuel and right now, my preference for fuel is Cambridge Diet sachets.

I can feel it..going to have an awesome week.

How about you, ladies?

H - Am so glad that you are feeling better today. LL doesn't do add a meal it's just shakes, soups and bars (might be a bit better of I liked more flavours!!)

I was a size 18 when DH and I met 7 years ago (where has the time gone!) but during the time we have been together that's the mllest I've been!

Prior to that I was size 10 at my skinniest and I can honestly say that I was thoroughly miserable at that size (didn't hep that my mother thought I was anorexic!!). Doesn't help that I have my mothers height (5'3) and my dad's build (let's just say not petite!!)lucky DB got dad's height 6'4 and mums slim build.

I've always felt happiest at about a size 14 so that's my target. To be honest I just want to be able to chase around after Zoe without feeling absolutely knackered!

Have a good week and I'll let you know how the weigh in goes tonight!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hsanders on Mon 10-Nov-08 21:18:43
Funny isn't it that actually is it our weight we want to be a certain figure, or is it the clothes we want to buy and that they need to be a certain figure? I suspect that both of us will get to a certain weight / clothes size and just 'know' that we're happy there. Thing is for me I know that even at 9 stone, I will still be a 12 on top (boobs, and large ones at that, run in the genes...urgh!)

Hope your weigh-in went well..would love to know how you're getting on.

And also totally agree about running around after children - totally do not want to be knackered all the time!

Was own another 2lbs last night. So that makes 18 in 3 weeks - am very chuffed about that!

I'm a bit like you - big boobs (thought they were meant to get smaller when you stopped BF NOT BIGGER!!!) Doesn't run in the genes (mum is and always has been a b cup - I'm now a JJ - eek!!)

Hope things are going well. x

18 lbs in 3 weeks awesome - well done. Hope you're feelig very proud of yourself.

Have you noticed a difference with your clothes and are they fitting better?

I bought a nice winter coat in ebay (Evans size 18) and had soooo many compliments yesterday from nurses at the hospital. I didn't want to buy a brand new coat so spent a fraction of the price buying this one. I am not going to buy any new jeans (which is what I live in) until I'm down to 13 st 7 lb so just over another stone, but am thinking this will not be long...

So back on it this week after my blip at the weekend. Do not ever want to feel like I did Sunday with all the guilt, headaches and tummy problems. So no more breaking it for me!!

Hope you have a good day.

And PS. I think with this diet, boobs do get smaller but on 'normal' diets like WW and Slimming World, it doesn't help change your body shape like these types of diets. So who knows, you may need some new bras soon?!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummyIsASparkler on Wed 12-Nov-08 09:02:57
Am seriously hoping that I need to get new bras. Unfortunately the only ones made in my size are definately not feminine or sexy (think Granny's ancient old undies hmm ) I was always an F/G cup before I got pregnant and since then they seem to have taken on a life of their own sad.

That's fab about your coat. eBay is wonderful in that way. Was very pleased as I managed to get into a pair of 22 jeans that have been sitting in my wardrobe for AGES. Ok, so they wouldn't fasten but it was the first time I've managed to get them up past my knees grin Seriously, I do notice a difference in my clothes (have gone down a dress size and eerything feels looser).

Anyway, it's a beautiful day here so am away to hang out about 20 loads of washing and am dragging DH out of his bed for a long hike!!

Hope you're having a good day
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hsanders on Wed 12-Nov-08 16:11:59
Long hike sounds good and you're right, it has been a just gorgeous day - not that I've been out yet!!

As for bras, I actually think they should officially be called 'ladies scaffolding' as I don't think I have ever worn what could be classed as a pretty bra that did not use more material than your average size 8 vest top!! Not that I am jealous of small-boobed ladies amongst us...not much anyway!!

I've managed to sooooo get back on the horse as it were and going really well. Finding it easy again and even have a friend over for dinner tonight and we've not seen him since before Leo was diagnosed. Usually it would be a night of lots of drink, food, chocolate etc etc etc - but they can do that! 'll cook and have a CD soup with them, but food is the devil's work for me !!!!!!!!!

Hope you're having a fab week

Hello
Im new to CD and am now on my 2nd day. I am finding it really hard and had to use all my will power to not have a mouthful of bolognase from the kids dinner....

Cant wait for the hunger pangs to disapear - bliss that would be.

I dont find the packs bad at all and so far have not been disappointed on taste (although I am not very keen on the Tetra Packs.

Hope you are all having a good CD week! grin

Welcome Mummypingu (love your name!!)

I am not sure about how soon afterwards you can start especially if you do what is called Sole Source on Cambridge Diet, and the 100 Days Programme on Lighter Life which means you cut out all Food, and drink litres of water and the food replacement sachets, bars etc.

I am seeing my CD Counsellor this evening and so will ask and come bac to you, although the other ladies may know...?

Ladies?

Hope you're all having a fab day!

PS. On Cambridge Diet, you can do what is called an Add A Meal which means you have two sachets (shakes or soups) or a bar, and then a normla meal such as chicken, broccoli and some other veg (but lovely small NORMAL portion sizes?? Whatever that is, eh??)

Plus with Lighter Life, you have to be signed off to be safe to do it with your GP - so if they felt it was unsafe for you to do it, then they wouldn't let you.

thanks for your reply hsanders

the person i know is doing the 100 days diet and it really is amazing the difference in her..she has been carrying this extra weight for 8 years and she has tried lots of other methods and this one has really done it for her...she is going to look amazing at christmas time, and she looks younger as well, not sure about the gp bit..my gp is right up his own backside so i may cringe having to see him..or i may be able to visit the practice nurse? i would prefer to cut out all food and then theres no temptation!

Mummpingu - I'm back on LL having had my daughter 9 months ago. My counsellor told me that you can't be breastfeeding and it must be at least 3 months since you had your baby. The fact that you need your doctor to sign the consent form will keep you along the right track.

Curlylox - LL consists of 4 food packs a day (soups, shakes and a bar) It costs £66 a week and you initially need consent from your doctor before joining and then check up for Blood Pressure every 4 weeks. You attend a class every week which consists of a weigh in and the group discussions/work. It's all based around changing your attitude towards food.

I did it last year and lost 4 1/2 stone in 3 months before I had to stop as I fell pregnant. I've since rejoined 3 weeks ago and have lost 18lbs already!

So we were basically drinking together MMIAS last night!!!

Mummypingu and Curlylox;

So you've got the costs for LL which is structured and you get weighed weekly (in private) and in the class I did years ago, they never discussed how much weight people had lost eack week, unless of course you want to share (unlike Slimming World and Weight Watchers where their weekly 'X has lost 3 lbs, let's all clap' which can be horrid for those weeks you hate life and your weight and so eat and drink more?!)

For Cambridge, it's £36 per week and there's no class but your CD Counsellor has had extensive coaching and continuous training. I currently find this approach better as I can discuss my issues with her personally. I am currently not in an emotional place to sit and share why I was comfort eating or had put on so much weight, in front of a group of people who don't know how it feels to have a 3 year old with cancer etc.

Personally I also find the CD sachets and bars actually taste nice - I found the LL products less tasty but it's personal choice.

Either way, these costs are nothing if you compare it to your weekly shop and all those incidentals things we buy, all the extras which perhaps noone knows about!! Plus how much do you want to lose the weight? Before you know it, the weight is coming off and you've more energy and food goes out of your head (most of the time).

H - was reading our blog. So glad to hear that DS has settled well into his school (love the new photos too grin)

Have been VERY VERY good today - been for 2 great long hikes with Zoe today (hopefully she'll sleep tonight!)

Not looking forward to next week, it's going to be tough. Have a funeral on Monday and then we are going to stay with friends in Skye for the rest of the week (and she's a fab cook and baker) I've told her not to bother with grub for me but I know what she's like hmm. May just have to go and hike up the Cuillens wink

Hi! I feel a bit of a fraud coming on here as my starting weight is some peoples goal...

I'm about ten and a half stone, and am 5'3. I've done WW and SW before, and both times got down to 9st1, but even then it didn't sit quite right on me, possibly because of my height and very petite frame (and oddly big boobs!) and I still didn't look at all thin, and floundered around a size 10. I want an 8st something weight!!!

A friend of mine has lost four stone on lighterlife recently, and this has been quite inspiring. Her counsellor is starting a new group for people with less to lose (BMI of 25+ and at least a stone to lose) so a friend and I are thinking of joining.

Does anyone know anything about these new smaller-loss groups?

Also can you tell me abouit the meals please Are they horrid? Do you get to pick?

My friend had tried Cambridge but lasted two days on it, why is it so much cheaper? What are the main differences?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By LittleMonkeysMummyIsASparkler on Sat 15-Nov-08 10:08:17
Hi Lunavix.

I haven't heard anything about those LL groups (probably because that wouldn't be me grin) I imagine that you would still have to go through all the doctors checks - would be concerned if you didn't.

There's about 4 different flavours of soups, same of shakes and bars. You pick which ones you like. I only really like the shakes and bars (not a soup fan at the best of times).

I haven't done Cambridge but with LL you attend weekly group meetings which I find invaluable. These look at your attitude towards food and uses cognitive therapy to try and alter these. (hmm - I like it too much and have zero idea of portion control grin)

Let me know how you gt one.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hsanders on Sun 16-Nov-08 21:02:10
Hi Lunavix,

Not heard of the LL groups for less than 25 BMI etc BUT do know that there are VLCD (very low calorie diets) which can be made into LCD, so you add a meal of normal food to make it slightly larger calorie count each day. In addition there are some which are about doing the 'diet' during the week and then let your hair down at the weekends.

However, the main ethos behind the LL and Cambridge diets is that it's not just about the sachets or bars. It's about re-addressing the balance of why we eat when we eat, waht we eat and how we eat.

And you're right about weight etc - it's not how mcuh you weigh, it's how you feel. My target is between 8'7 and 9 stone BUT if I get to 10 stone (which I've not been for years), and feel great and happy with my body image, then I'll maintain my weight there. I too, am short (5'4") and small boned but massive boobs which I hate!!! So who knows what I will get to in terms of weight but I am open to see what happens.

I am not just losing weight though. I am re-training my brain to completely detach my emotions from the food. Food is only fuel. I do not need it to comfort me. I not need food to make me feel better, as it never does!

Gosh - not sure I've helped or answered your questions Lunavix. Perhaps do a Google on VCLD as LL and Cambridge have competitors such as W8 Matters etc.

LLMIAS - hope you have a lovely holiday this week and hope you have a good LL week too. Keep going.

Any updates from others on the same journey?

Woo hoo!! Another 3 lbs - that's a stone and a half in 4 weeks!!

Lunivax - spoke to my LL counsellor tonight and she says that there is a new programme called Lighter Life Lite which is being launched next week. It is for those with a BMI of 25-29. I think that is maybe what your friend is talking about.

Hope everyone's week is going well. Am off to sunny (ahem hmm) Skye for a few days.

Remember you can add salt (but not loads) and pepper and some herbs if you find some of the flavours a but yuck. Make a note of the ones you really like and definitely tell your counsellor which ones you hate, as you do NOT want to thinking each day about what you're not looking forward to.

I am back on it tomorrow and my husband is going to do it with me for one week so he can sympathise with me in the future (all those...'can't be that difficult' comments, will soon be a thing of the past).

Good luck lunavix. Forst two days may make you a bit headache-y but I'll be there with you as will my DH - who will no doubt find it much harder than us. After all, men find the common cold far more difficult than we do!!!!

So how are all the LL and CD ladies feeling today?

And how's the headaches and food cravings going?

How about the weight loss? Are you like me and always get on the scales every day for the first 2 weeks? If so, how's it going?

My DH has lost 3.5 lbs overnight so he's rather chuffed with himself (but did feel rubbish yesterday) and I've also lost 3 lbs so am really pleased too. I hope to lose a stone in the next 2 weeks so I'll be 14 stone for the first time in ages. I started at 15 st 1lb yesterday and was 14 st 12 lbs today. If I do it until end of April, then I will defo lose the weight for good this time. Perhaps I'll be 13 st by Christmas - woo hoo!!

Hello,
new on cambridge and just found this site which is a big relief, have been feeling a bit isolated! Good to feel I'm not alone on this , some days you just need a bit of support and my friends don't really know what I am doing... have said I'm on strict diet and left it at that. How did other people tell their friends, or am I the only one to feel a little weird about telling others? (hmm)

Hi Katycake

I must admit I was quite blunt and first time round told my friends and family what I was doing and most of them were fine with it. Have decided this time not to tell MIL who just gives me lectures about how I'm losing weight to quickly, must be bad for you, blah, blah, blah.... As LL needs doctors checks I just told people I was doing it through and on the advice of my doc and they were fine with it. Does feel a bit weird though especially on a night out!! hmm

Sponge - your DS id soooo cute ( must admit the broody gene is kicking in lately better not tell DH grin)

LittleMonkeysMummy, thank you, he is a bit of a cutie isn't he?! smile

Have to say I am also desperate for another one/two/three hence the diet! I need IVF to conceive and my consultant has advised me that it would be much better for me and chances of pg if my BMI was 25 or under.

katy, very difficult knowing what to say to friends - first time around I got so many negative reactions but tbh at lot of it is just jealousy!

This time I'm not being totally abstinent every day so haven't told everyone I'm doing it!

Hi all,

I've restarted LL today, not the classes, just using the foodpacks that I didn't use last time. I plan to use them for the next 4 weeks. I lost 3 stone last year on it (but did need to lose more) and have put 2 of them back on.
We are going on holiday in the new year so I would like to be able to get into my holiday clothes.
So as I said I started it today and I've had 2 chocolate shakes so far, in fact most of my packs seem to be chocolate shakes, I don't much like any of the others. Amazing how quickly thoughts of food creep into your head isn't it? Have been out for a walk with DD in the buggy (exercise and diversion therapy grin)and now I'm filling myself up on water and peppermint tea.

I'm not going to broadcast being on this diet this time, I can't be doing with the negative reactions either. Hopefully this time next week I will be at least 7lbs lighter.

Hi everyone,

Right now there's a few of us here I feel ready to combat those demons eating away at me, telling me to eat, eat, eat!

So been on it one week (again) but fell apart this weekend, but now will start properly with CD and running for the Half Bath Marathon in March. Will update weight and all the stones I am losing ASAP!

LLMIAXS - thanks for your message - and DS doing sort of okay. Docs still not confirmed relapse or not at this point but DS doing okay-ish. Looks like his sight in his right eye is definitely going now which is much quicker than antipicated a it was thought that if he would go blind in that one eye as a result of the radiotherapy, then it would take years. But hey ho! He's alive and kicking, and so we'll relish every day with him......but one of the keys things is I get slimmer, healthier and fitter in order to enjoy each day with his.

Good luck every one and glad there's a few of us now, grouped together, and all pulling in the same direction.

Let's have a fabulous week ladies.

I've lost 6 pounds since restarting on Monday so down to 14.12 now (but have had a dodgy tummy for some reason so feeling quite peaky!) and certainly need to keep going if I am going to be under 9 stone for my next birthday at the end of April.
