Welcome ladies of the Due August 2008 thread. Today is your day to begin REDEFINING your Post-Baby Body.

Please take a moment to STATE your SHORT TERM goal(s) and to STATE your LONG TERM goal(s) for overall health. This may include a weight you would like to reach, a fitness level you would like to attain, or size you would like to fit into.

I ask that you post at least twice a week. First to state what you plan to do during the week to reach your above goal(s). Then an end of the week post to let us know how you faired. BE HONEST! This is a SUPPORT THREAD so if you didn't find time to run a mile, admit it. Maybe someone else did the same and needs a running partner...thus a MEET-UP a might solve the problem. If you went above and beyond your expectations for the week, tell us and be an inspiration.

Now let's get started.smile

TwilightSurfer, here. I am 37 and have lost all my baby weight but would like to rehab my body post emCS. I have two more weeks until I have medical release to do anything.

Until then I plan to walk 20minutes a day and do breathing exercises to help tummy muscles regain strength.

I'm here, hot on your tail as always grin

OK - So here they are:

Short term: Reduce (although not completely cut out) the crap in my diet. Swim twice a week (40-50 lengths) and go to a pilates class once a week to lose the first stone and tone up

Long term: Lose at least 1 more stone and try to get to size 14. Get back to playing netball

I will start the day after my 8 week check in the first week of Oct

The 7th of October is my POST-CSection FULL EXAM. I have told by my doc that I will be allowed to proceed with any exercise program following that exam.

I have signed up for a Mommy & Me Yoga class that will be every Wednesday beginning 08Oct.

I am interested in a Tai Chi class that takes place on Tuesdays or Thursdays or Saturdays...will have to see what fits my schedule.

I have been sort of asked to be another mom's running partner while our girls are in preschool but getting to the point of running may take me until January. In the mean time I'll stick to gradually building up my walking times EACH AND EVERY DAY.

I wish I could run.
I try on the treadmill but can only manage a few minutes at a time.
I seem to get stitch but not tired or out of breath. So have to slow down.
Prefer fast walk tbh.
Would love to go swimming or back to pilates, but no one to watch dc really.
Or should I say, dont really like puttng on people.

hi i went to fitness classes at first.
hen bought my own pole, then a dvd off ebay and tought myself.

It was very hard at first, they make it look soooo easy, i couldnt even pull my weight off ground at first. but after few weeks can climb/shimmy to top of polegrin
learnt lots of differnt spins/twirls
the instructer also teaches pilates so all pole work involves your core and correct posture.
best thing is its so much fun you dont realize your working out.

No1 My Gym has a creche for the DC's so i can go swimming - i appreciate this is quite expensive BUT i need to feel better about my body so for me it is definitely worth it IYSWIM. On a cheaper note our local swimming pool has a nursery attached as well and i think you can use as a 'drop in' place - is there nothing similar in your area?

Hoping to be back down to 9 stone, although a little more would be better and would really be pre-preg weight. Scales this morning said 9,8,0, but had said 9,10,4 yesterday so hmm. Suspect I've got about three quarters of a stone to lose.

Right, that's the bit I know. What I don't know is how I know what i'm like. Could say all the usual stuff, but not realistic. Therefore, in real world and hoping this will work:

1. Not tooooo much chocolate post DD bedtime, which is the usual vice
2. Alcohol limited to 1 glass (well bf anyway), but 3 times per week max
3. Brisk walk with pram to town and back (4 mile round trip) at least 3 times/wk

That's for now. Suspect I'll have to:

1. Cut out biscuits/cake. Will try no chocolate/anything sweet shockshockbefore DD bedtime.
2. Will not have cakes when out with friends for coffee.
3. Will go to exercise class at least once/wk.

Haven't had ok to exercise yet, but fear it will come on Thursday. Think I will only resort to the second set of plans on 1st November if/when the first have proved useless.

When expressing properly will leave with dh when he is off.

Oh and have serious toning issues. Don't feel the urge to start on the sit-ups again yet, but don't mind that so much, so will prob. get going on those once I feel that my stomach is, largely, in one piece beneath the blubber. My sis is a personal trainer and taught me how to find out if my stomach muscles have come back together yet. Nowhere near at present, so I at least have an excuse for hauling the flab for the timebeing. Do kind of hope I can do something about it soon. Partic. as bf means that I'm confronted with it more than I would be otherwise/would like to be.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By TwilightSurfer on Tue 23-Sep-08 22:52:38
"one piece beneath the blubber"...according to Julie Tupler RN, perfect abs is all about correcting your diastasis and doing tummy strengthening exercises correctly. She has a video and a book, Loose Your Mummy Tummy.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By TwilightSurfer on Tue 23-Sep-08 22:55:06
Tupler gives a plan for fixing the diastasis (where the muscles are seperated) then proceeds with instruction on flattening & firming.

Correcting the diastasis is basically a lot of breathing exercises...very easy.

I'm in.

Short term:
Lose one stone (ie 14 pounds) minimum and tone up
How:
Plan meals properly and shop properly
Much salad and protein little carb
Eat a lot at meals so not shaky with desperation for chocolate
Swim when allowed length & frequency tbc
Pram walk avec chien every day, resulting in walking 10 miles a week.
Run as soon as allowed?
Postnatal yoga (can't start for another 6 weeks)

Long term:
Lose two stone
How tbc - maybe not poss till post bf?

General aims: look like old self by Christmas, look stunningly drop dead sexy by brother's wedding in France in May! Problem: hips are wider now than pre-preg, but not with flesh, with the actual hip structure hmm. I swear I am not making this up as an excuse for myself, my actual bones have changed. Is problematic jeans-wise.

Will start after 6 week checkup (even though am 7 weeks now have to wait for consultant to come back from holiday as he is consultant and therefore always on holiday)

Sorry my plan is probably a bit ill-defined. Am crazed for sleep and am getting up early. Will review and refine.

Love this thread. Could be the making of me grin

OK.

Currently 11 stone. And feel like I have a flabby belly.

Short term goal:
Would like to be 10 1/2 stone. Less flabby belly.

Aim for the week:
More salad and fruit. Less junk food between meals. No crisps.

Long term goal:
Would like to be fitter, but we'll concentrate on losing weight for now.

Can anyone give me any advice about sit-ups - as this may be an aim for a coming week.

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By SazzlesA on Wed 24-Sep-08 09:48:30
I'm exactly the same VG. 1 stone doable, 2 stone hard, 3 stone dream grin. I was 3 stone lighter when i got married but that was SOOOOOO hard and involved personal trainers and exercise 5x per week and fruit and salad diet. I'm not happy doing that hence my additional 1+ stone loss long term goal

Hooray, thanks TS you are an inspiration as ever!!

Currently 10 stone and 4lb and have the most horrendous 'muffin top' belly action going on, so:

Short-term:
1. Lose 14lb
2. Eat regularly and healthily but not cutting out treats altogether (otherwise I'll just crave them more!)
3. Do wii-fit every day or walk for 30 mins every day
4. As soon as ds2's colic has gone - get back to hockey training and playing (I'm hoping this will be in the next fortnight).

Long-term:
Maintenance grin

I'm in I don't weigh myself so my goals will be necessarily vague - basically I just want to get fit and toned. Am currently around a size 12 (5'3" height) and will be happy to stay a toned size 12 OR go back down to a size 10.

How I plan to achieve it:

swimming once a week
lots of walking (I can't drive yet so this is a must anyway!)
running once a week when my fitness levels are back up a bit
power pramming with a friend grin

I've got a place in a 10k run next June, which I'll be doing to raise money for my brother's charity, so that gives me something to work towards. Really looking forward to getting started, roll on my 6 week check (in 3 weeks' time)!

Ok day. blush list of food today includes only a mini pain au chocolat, a mini kit kat and, so far, 3 rolos (rest of packet in imminent danger however). Did go for a 90 min walk with DD2 in the sling, without a cake/coffee pitstop midway round, so chuffed with that.

Anticipate that tomorrow will be bad as coil being fitted in the morning. Therefore DH at home to look after DDs and I intend to exploit the opportunity to take a back seat and make him feel grateful for me taking the contraceptive burden again. Looking forward to a day of sofa lounging accompanied by copious chocs. (Am blanking out the actual coil fitting bit).

Found my pedometer out today and blew off the dust.
Only managed 7,858 steps, is it something like 10,000 a day for fitness and over 12,000 for weightloss.
Sure I got that from somewhere.
Got lot more to get in today then.
Mind you I didnt put it on whil 2.00pm.

well I have managed to saty away from the crisp cupboard for the last 2 and a half days.
Believe me when I say that is good for me.
I have been snacking on raw carrot still, the crunch seems to do it.
however I had a full nan bread yesterday and I am about to have the other one for tea today, as I am currently cooking dahl for the first time ever, never cooked lentils before. hope it turns out ok.

dhal is a great healthy tea - tasty, full of protein, low fat and cheap. let us know how it turns out, i've got a brilliant failsafe dhal recipe but am always interested in new variations.

here we go

Boil the lentils till you can crush a grain without any hard stuff. Fry some onion, when translucent add some garlic and ginger, stir for a sec, then add a chopped tomato. The add a teaspoon of paprika, and half a teaspoon each of cumin, chilli powder, tumeric, coriander and garam masala. Once the spices are fried off a little, stir it into the dhal. Add green chilli, salt and vinegar to taste. Serve with chapatis, or whatever bread you've got lying around.

it's really good!

great will get some more spices.
Tbh what I just had was very very bland but I liked the texture.
By the way it was like mush, is it supposed to be or should they still look round.

it's meant to be pretty mushy...i always use red lentils because i'm too lazy to soak the other kind, and they always turn to mush.

Yep Lara was 10 days old when I went shock Terrible I know but I absolutely loathe no longer being pregnant but not fitting into clothes. I don't 'ping' back into shape like some do so I have to work really hard to get back to pre-pregnancy weight, plus we have a wedding to go to 1st November that I wanted to b able to buy a lovely new outfit for so that's my target

Not a brilliant day today - v. lovely, but terrible for me banoffee pie at lunchtime and now tucking into a glass of vino. However, so far, nothing else bad and also managed a 45 min walk with DD2 in sling. Given the day I've had though, it wasn't brisk.

Will do better tomorrow.... On the other hand is the start of the weekend and dieting and weekends just don't go together.... I'm useless at this sad.

Got up early to start Wii fitting... couldn't figure out which channel it is on (wasn't working the way it normally connects) and DH at work, so no fitting for me this morning blush sad.

But walked for 2 miles yesterday evening with the boys on their bikes by the sea (I love this lovely September weather) so feeling marginally better.

Oh - on the Wii subject, it also tells you your Wii fit age... think mine was about 46 blush blush blush. I kept shouting at the TV - 'I've just had a baby!' with DH saying, 'yes but it can't hear you...' SO WHAT?!grin.
