Had no luck with posting this in chat! Must be a skinny bunch in there. Seriously need to shed some weight. After lots of failed attempts over the past few years I'm determined to stick to a long-term plan, reducing calorie intake by a small amount and doing more exercise.

My plan is this - I'm reducing my calorie intake to 1600 per day (to maintain weight I should have 2100) and aim to do a 20 min brisk walk 3 times a week, plus 20-30 mins aerobic exercise 3 times a week (fitness video or Wii fit or swimming).

If anyone is interested in joining in, with maybe a weekly weigh-in then I'd be very glad of the company and support!

Bought some body fat measuring scales yesterday and my body fat percentage is almost 39% which I don't think is good somehow.

Hi, surprise, I'd be happy to join in if you'll have me.

I've got a bit of weight to lose, mostly on my flobbly belly which hasn't recovered from two kids with close age gap; and I would really love to get fitter.

I need to reduce the quantity of food I eat; it's all home-cooked and reasonably healthy, but I give myself too much. And I snack waaay too much. I've never specifically calorie counted before, and don't know how to go about it for home-cooked food (so no labels to read). Any tips?

For exercise, dh and I have been trying to get 3 runs in a week. I'm not a natural runner, but we've been going for 7 weeks now and it's going ok. I usually run for about 1/2 hour, but it's difficult as I can only go when dh is home to look after the kids, but his hours are very unpredictable, so it's not always possible. I've been twice so far this week, and need to try and get again today (though I have a blister on the sole of my foot, so will have to see how that feels). What exercise video(s) are you going to follow? I would be interested if you had any recommendations. Also, am interested in how you find the wii-fit. We have a wii, and I use the sports game. Is the wii-fit a lot better? Anything I can do at home is a bonus, from the childcare pov.

A bit of mutual support would be great!

OK - me too.

Posted about a month ago and then had big blood pressure scare and was banned from driving/ exercise, so i couldn't start. all sorted now (ish), so i can exercise etc.

i am now the proud owner of 2 Davina dvds (still wrapped) which someone on here recommended, and a new set of body fat scales (unwrapped and reading 36%) and my bmi is almost 27. i'm not vast, but i do need to lose about a stone and a half to be back to normal bmi...
...and fit into my clothes.

similar to 2Happy - all home-cooked but quantity is an issue - and never counted cals before - would just reducing portion sizes and eliminating snacks (with a glass of water instead?) not be exact enough?

i would love to start running again - used to run a lot - but all pre-kids... think i need to get my confidence up a bit before i venture into trainers outdoors...

Oooo, Me too please!

I also posted a while ago desperate to do something about my weight but had alot happening so was put on the back burner so im ready now again and raring to go!

I have bought two excercise DVDs and have ordered a Wii and the Wii fit which should be here in a week.

I am about 3 stone overweight and the reason is i eat way to much and don't get off my backside enough! There, i said it!

I have DD 2.6 and DS 1 and since DS has been born i tend to stay in the house more as such a rigmarol sp? going out, but now he's older i really need a kick to get myself motivated again!

Really unsure what a 'normal' sized portion looks like these days so calorie counting ane weighing really has to be the way forward fo me i think.

Love the idea of weekly weigh in and would really appeciate the support and advice

I'd love to join too pls.

Been wanting to do it for a while but noone to do it with and i'm no use at sticking to things if I dont have someone to go along with.

I'd prefer to weigh myself on a 2 or 3 weekly basis if ok?

I'm aiming for 3stone for starters.

Guilty of snacking so i'll put a stop to that or maybe 1 treat per day instead of all the usual junk.

Did it years ago wheras I would be really really good all week then treat myself to a curry or something else one day at the weekend. Also joined an aerobics class once a wk and swimming too. Lost 2 and a half stone in 3 months.

Just read the title again.
not starting until tomorrow - does that mean we need to weigh/ check in on a monday?
(and does that mean i can eat loads tonight with no falling off wagon involved...?)
can do that exercise regime - and have worked out that if i walk the dogs in my trainers, i might be tempted to jog once i get in the woods where no-one can see! fat lab might lose weight too!
thinking 3 days walking, 2 days davina (!) and 1 swimming a week (not nec in that order)
too tight to get a wii fit.
no snacking.
will weigh pasta/ rice/ couscous etc but not count cals unless that doesn't seem to be working after a couple of weeks...
see ya tomorrow!
(off to 'clear out' the chocolate)

So is Davina good, then? Should I order me a copy??
Are we going to do a start-off weigh-in tomorrow <<wonders if it is possible to weigh self and post result with eyes shut so that I don't have to face up to the reality...>> Have so far only ever weighed myself in kg since kids as i don't understand what it means, so it seems less worrying!!

I would love to join too please.

Just back from a weeks holiday and feeling really bloated and unhealthy. Having support from others would really help.

I have been a member at the gym for 2 years now - go at least 3 times a week but am bigger than I have ever been so need to get my eating under control. Need about a stone maybe stone and a half off.

I have promised trainer at gym I will see him for a new programme after school holidays and I have decided to make diet changes now.

Ok <<deep breath>> here goes:

This morning I weigh 10st 3.5
And I measured my waist as I hope I will be putting muscle on by exercising so the weight may not shift hugely (though I would very much like to be considerably nearer 9 stone than 10!!!); it's also the bit of me I hate the most ATM. It was 36.5 inches.

Have been looking on old MN threads and figure Davina exercise DVDs seem to get the thumbs up, so may order one off amazon.

From today I will not be sneaking into the potty-training-chocolate-bribery stash. I will instead do as Romy7 suggests and have <<sigh>> a glass of water instead.

Incidently, where's surprise, she started the thread, I hope she comes back to find all the people she's motivated smile

I'm here too smile. I have started a little book that i'm going to use as a diary - food, exercise type of thing. I find actually writing things down really helps.

I have never actually calorie counted; does anyone know of any good sites with calororie lists?

I think my poor eating tends to be around unrefined carbs - white bread in excess and not enough protein (i'm veggie).

Have a look at this website also (I've been surfing sites for the last half hour...!) It will calculate your body size (including the dreaded hips/waist measurement), your calorie intake, advise you on how you can alter your intake.... Mind you, I put in what i ate yesterday and it told me I should be eating more fat shock (that's only because they don't have the option of putting in yorkshire puddings wink)

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Romy7 on Mon 18-Aug-08 09:55:12
right.

10 stone 8 1/2
body fat 33.6%

can't find a tape measure, which i'm seeing as a Good Thing, but will post waist size when it surfaces amongst the rubble. the fact that i can fit into dh's trousers round the waist and he wears a 36 waist i am seeing as a Bad Thing. i'm 5 ft 2. i would like to fit into my trousers round the waist, which are a size 12. this is my first goal!

my target weight I think is 9 stone 7, and i'll review when i get there, as it wasn't scientifically worked out - anyone who can tell me what i should be from a scientific point of view, please feel free!

<see? i said 'when'!!!>

today i am walking the dogs and will attempt to unwrap davina and see if she's as good as everyone says. do you think '30 minute workout'? or 'power of three'? shock

i will also avoid the m&s choc and orange rolls tub in the cupboard and focus on the glass of water. they gave me toothache last week anyway.

if no weight loss in the next two weeks, i calorie count. eek.

good luck all!

(and where is surprise? do you think she's coming back for a weigh in?)

Am going to throw my hat in too. Need to lose about 2 stone.

I have everything in place (fitness dvd/strider machine thing) but it's my diet that is a shambles.

Just been on the food focus site which looks really good and recommends how many calories you need to get to your goal weight.

Have tried other diets before (with a bit of success) but never done calorie counting so will give it a whirl.

Weighed myself this morning and I am ......
12st 4lbs. Would like to get down to 10st.

Do I get a prize for being the fattest one to weight in?!!?

Can't belive how many of us there are - checked this message yesterday and no takers! Glad so many people are up for it. Weighed in at 12 10 this morning, and have set myself a goal of 1 - 1.5 lbs per week. I think because I always set myself high goals I give up too easily, so that's why I want to take it slowly. Haven't done much exercise today unfortunately as had to visit friends.

I can second Weight Loss Resources - I did really well when I signed up with them before. However, I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment and as I bought the calorie and fat bible I can do all the working out for myself. (give me something to do in the evening other than eat grin).

My worst time is in the evenings. Sometimes I can go all day without even noticing I'm dieting but sitting down in front of the telly is always fatal. Planning an early night with my new book and a cup of Ovaltine Light (all within my calorie limit!)

Good luck to everyone with this. Even losing a pound is better than gaining one. Someone once said to me "nothing tastes as good as slim feels", so I always try to think of that to help spur myself on. That and the horrible fat photo of me on the fridge door........

So are we doing the weigh in on a Monday?

If everyone's happy with weighing in on Mondays? needstodiet, don't worry - no one has said how tall they are, so it's all relative. I'm actually only 2 ft tall grin.

Have to say, I'm finding it okay so far, as I'm not cutting down much on calories. That food focus site is excellent too, and it's free, so may well use that. I find it helps to focus me if I have to log my food intake each day.

Just think, this time next week, we will all be a bit lighter!

Mondays are fine with me. I've always been a weigh every day when i'm dieting kind of girl (and avoid the scales when I am carrying extra weight) but I think the once a week will be better long term.

Had a good day yesterday, both food and exercise wise. I think my body is used to over eating and it will take a while to get used to eating just what I need. I use food (and coffee) as rewards and as stress relief which is not a healthy attitude; my youngest is disabled and it is since his birth and diagnosis that my weight has crept up.

Will have to start thinking about healthy meals to keep this long term - I'm vegetarian and can over rely on cheese.

Sorry no idea on cals on homemade soup. For my salad I just typed in all the ingredients to get the total.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By MuthaHubbard on Tue 19-Aug-08 12:57:26
Well have started using the food focus site, which is fab as it's free and works everything out for you.

I actually need some decent scales - any recommendations? Don't want to spend a fortune though.

I used to weigh 14st 4lb and lost two stone over 6 - 8 months but since this time last year I've been stuck in a rut (read can't really be arsed).

I do find it hard when I'm off work and in the evenings not to eat crap. I also love bread and am really trying to cut down on that.

Did 30 mins on my strider y'day as well as a 10 min fast walk to try to get to the pictures on time. Have done 20 mins on strider today and going for a stroll around the park soon to feed the ducks.

Good luck everyone!!!

joined food focus.

have decided not to tick the 'lose 2lbs a week' option as it reduced my intake to less than 1000. and i am not playing that game!!

seems quite straightforward to use though - although it did take me about 20 minutes to work out my veg soup hmm

it also very kindly informed me that at my height, to be mid-range healthy bmi, i should be 9 stone exactly. shock

i don't think i've been 9 stone in 20 years. i'm not sure if i should stick with just getting into the healthy range, rather than aiming for the optimum?

it did say i could do it by the end of november though grin we wish you a merry christmas!

Mutha - you are very right I am an emotional eater and its something I would like to re-learn (if that is possible). RL friends wouldn't believe it (I go from a small 12 to a large 12 verging 14 max) and being tall helps. I am seen as strong, calm and controlled and often get "I don't know how you cope" type comments.

Romy when my ds went into yr1 (reception was a nightmare) I joined a gym and it has been a wonderful escape and essential "me time". However I have got comfortable in my programme and am no longer really pushing myself so I am seeing a trainer after the holidays. My son is wonderful but demanding and a true trash monster - you would think I would lose weight by chasing after him and trying to keep on top of the mess! LOL

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Romy7 on Tue 19-Aug-08 20:58:11
hi mabs! <waves> how old is ds? i think whatever you want to post for weigh-in - i put my body fat and also my bmi down somewhere, but only because i want to refer back to them at some point - depends if you want to focus on inches or pounds, maybe? i'm hoping to post 'losses' by weight, but whatever suits you? if you're looking to tone rather than shed, maybe inches? (eek!)

i've got 3 brand new pairs of jeans that have been looking at me and mocking every time i open the wardrobe (i can't even get them over my butt, but i ordered a damn 12 and refuse to send them back), so i'm thinking in inches but measuring by the scales, if that makes sense...

right, i unwrapped davina this evening, ladies, and headed straight into 'the power of 3'. if i can't see that thing working over a month them i'm giving up and going back to chocolate and crisps. it was fun, in a sort of masochistic way, and easy enough (i am eternally gratefully to the lovely Jackie for getting me to just walk along with her on the er... testing bits) - and nothing too technical. i'm a bit 'left arm never knows what right leg is doing', but i coped with the co-ordination mostly... my favourite part was that Davina was also finding it difficult, too, which always makes me feel slightly better about huffing and grimacing. it was slightly complicated by the fact that the dogs had no idea what was going on, and kept getting under my feet in a 'which way is she going to swing her leg next' manner. they soon shifted.

i have a feeling i may not be able to get out of bed in the morning though. blush

sending 'exercise' vibes... although, i have to say, there's something about putting exercise kit on and standing in front of a mirror that is... motivational...

come on girls, keep it up!!

Romy - I also didn't tick the 2lbs a week part on food focus, but ticked 1.5lbs. IF I stick to it, it says I should acheive by goals by Jan. Ideally I'd like to lose at least a stone by October as we are considering going away for half term somewhere warm.

Ladies - Finding time for yourself with disabled dc's must be hard!

School is the best invention, how else would we get time to do all our exercise dvds and plan our diets!! In a way I can't wait for mine to go back as I always seem more organised when they are there.

Feeding the ducks turned into a 90 min stroll with the kids! I even took them to McD's (sshhh), my son had a salad, daughter had happy meal and I had ........ a chicken wrap mini thing and a diet coke!

Disturbingly it seems that I am about 1,000 calories down today so might go and have a coffee and a mini roll!

----keep those weight loss thoughts----

Romy - so glad you liked the video. I ordered it yesterday. Am a bit nervous but think it will be good. And DP is very encouraging. He might even join me. We're getting married next year so we both want to tone up (well, I want to lose copious amounts of weight. He wants to tone up!)

bling, i'm told there is an 'off' button for the chit chat, if you don't want to listen to Davina wittering once you get used to it. it didn't bother me last night, but i can see that the same comments might grate after a week or two...
well, i managed to get out of bed - bit wobbly and i can feeeeel my muscles, but no pain, hurrah. (that'll be tomorrow grin)

almost went for the choc last night as mil rang me late to say dh grandad had been found v unwell on his hall floor after a fall - they aren't sure how long he'd been there but at least a couple of days. he's 90 sad, so healing vibes for Grandad please.... no bones broken, but until they can get him hydrated etc they aren't really sure what happened. the fire brigade had to break in... i had to try and get hold of dh who's away with work, so time zone stuff. bit tired today, and poss not just from davina lol!

BlingLovin 1 meal out isn't so bad and will balance over the week; well thats what i'm telling myself as it is our wedding anniversary Thursday and we are going out to eat. grin What month are you getting married? Do you have a reasonable time to try and meet your goal?

Mutha I also seem to be down on calories both actual (meal cals) and especially net after exercise. Have to be honest jumped into foodfocus without really reading all the info but I assume that I should be aiming to have a net calorie after exercise figure equal to the 1330 cals site says I should aim to lose weight?

Friend and her ASD son over today so will be busy but not in a standard exercise type of way, then going to see mama mia with some girlfriends tonight so I guess I had better go burn some calories through housework now so at least I have done something!

Lots of good vibes for dh grandad, Romy.

We're getting married in Feb. To be honest, I don't necessarily expect to make my overall goal by then. For the wedding, I just want to go down to an easy size 14, maybe 12 on bottom - so basically lose 10kg (I'm not sure what that is in stones, sorry), but food focus seems to think I can lose the full amount just in time... we'll see.

On Food Focus, three things I've noticed already are that 1) when you're having to type every single thing in, it definitely makes you think twice before you have that extra portion or whatever so that helps immediately 2) you have to be scrupulous about putting in all the "extras" eg sugar in tea, butter on your sandwich etc and 3) I REALLY need to get a scale as I'm kind of estimating amounts at this point! grin

And I think the calorie thing is that you have to have xx number of calories and if you exercise, you can eat more, because the exercise offsets that? so in my case, I'm supposed to have 1600 a day, but if I burn off 100 then I can eat 1700 and still lose the weight?

Wow this is getting busy!

First of all - Romy - sending positive healing vibesy things to DH's grandad, how awful, hope all is well this morning.

I've just put my first lot of stuff into food focus but confess I just jumped straight in too. I'll read it properly tonight. I've decided to just go for 1lb a week as I know from experience that trying to lose 2lb is just too difficult for me and becomes counterproductive (ie, I get stressed and depressed and then pig out). So, slow, steady, continous, maintable weightloss is the order of the day. We'll get there - June next year for me.

Food wise I think I'm doing ok but I've really fallen behind on my water drinking so need to kick start that again. Exercise is just walking at the moment, but I walk quickly down the hill and then power back up (accompanied by suitable tunes on my ipod of course). I think I need to do something else though. Can't afford the gym or a wii. Maybe I'll invest in a Davina DVD too? We do have an eyetoy thing for the playstation and a dancing game. Maybe I'll dust that off and have a go..grin

It's my wedding anniversary this weekend too tibni. Fortunately (?) we're absolutely skint so can't afford a meal out. We might run to a take away though but we're planning some long walks this weekend so hopefully I can balance things out a bit.

Hope it all goes well for everyone today!

Just a quick question - food focus doesn't seem to actually give me a run down of how much I'm drinking (water)? Is that just me or does everyone find that?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Romy7 on Wed 20-Aug-08 10:15:41
oh bling, what a great goal to have in your head! (are you getting hitched on valentine's day?) fitting a frock is going to be a last minute thing then? grin are you going the whole hog with a big white number or something a little 'less is more'?

thanks for vibes, ladies - i'm off to food focus now to fill in... i'm estimating too, but i'm not toooo worried. i want to see how many cals i burned with davina...

Romy - get well soon to your dh's grandad, hope he's ok
tibni - have you seen on foodfocus that in the exercise bit you can put in "childcare" and it counts that as calories burnt?! grin
Hoping my davina DVD is going to arrive today. It is pouring with rain; dh and I were going to go for a walk in the hills, but there's no chance in weather like this, we'd be up to our necks in bog!

BTW, and please say if you think this is a rubbish idea, but there's a lot of people on the thread now - should we do a wee roll call like:
Name --- Starting weight/waist size/whatever
--- target wieght/waist size/activity level/wedding date wink

Week after valentines day - my mother was keen for 14th but never mind everything else, flowers etc would have doubled in price! shock

Wedding dress is currently a bit of a crisis - we're getting married in SA and there's a dress maker there who claims she can do the dress in two weeks, at a fraction of cost etc etc etc. Which has lots of benefits not least of which is time to lose weight and not having to take the whole dress all the way home. But the idea of leaving it to last minute scares me silly!

Am going for heavily corseted - fat or not, I need the help! - with a medium size skirt hanging from the side. I want it very light as it will be HOT HOT HOT, which is another benefit of getting it made at home as they'll be able to adapt the material.

It's this website. Under Classic Collection, dress number 11022. That's the basic dress. But I'd like more chiffon if possible.

Gorgeous dress bling - love the back detail. Think I'm going to ask DH about renewing our vows once I've lost all my weight - just so I can wear a lovely dress!

I got married in a horrible shapeless of the rack effort, felt too fat for a nice dress sad

good idea about rollcall 2happy.

I love the bling (geddit grin) on the front! My bridesmaids are all laughing - they're all the elegant, simple types! But I say if you can't wear crystal all over your body on your wedding day, when can you!?

Medog, I'm sorry you felt fat. One of the reasons I like this one is that it makes me feel about two sizes smaller right up front. The corset is a marvellous invention. Why did we stop wearing them!? hahaha.

oh, i love that dress - it's beautiful! the lace-up should be fairly last minute friendly, too!
mine was straight up and down, with a pleated cummerbund and a lot of buttons on the back hmm - no bling in sight (and i was thin...) but i do like a bit of swish and sparkle these days (it was over ten years ago lol). not brave enough to go strapless though - despite the weight wobbling around everywhere else, i'm way too chicken chested for that to be anywhere near attractive blush - i always think you need a good rack to carry it off to perfection!
it will be fabulous!

Ooh, I forgot to mention I'll be putting sleaves on. Just to cover my shoulders - little inverted V's. I have a [coughing modestly emoticon] large chest which will never go down wink but don't like to over expose. So little sleaves will break up the massive expanse of chest while still, hopefully, ensuring DP remembers what he loves about me winkwink.

On food issues, I need help - I thought Olive Oil wasn't so bad? But the tablespoon of olive oil in the dressing of my lunch is the single biggest calorie contributor. Do I need to cut it out entirely? sad

Hi Ladies,

Please may I join you all.

I started to type a thread about my weight problems on Saturday but got disturbed by the dc before I finished....

I currently weigh 10st 3 and am 5ft 2. I have a BMI of 26.2 and need to get to 9st 4 for a healthy BMI

I have slowly been putting wieght on over the last 4 years - every summer I weigh more than I did the previous year...To put it into perspective I weighed less the week after the birth of DD2 ( now 7) blush

Mt eating habits are dire...I miss meals and snack on junk.

I so so need the motivation and help of you all. I am 41 and do not want to get fatter and fatter as time goes on.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Romy7 on Wed 20-Aug-08 14:11:48
hi sonnet - yeah, we've all just started so you're in at the beginning!
i'm definitely the heaviest i've ever been, and at 5'2 that's no fun.
have you got a plan? i'm trying not to calorie count for the fist couple of weeks, but generally cut down, stop snacking, and exercise more, but there are lots of calorie counters and most seem to have food focus, which is free and seems quite straightforward. a few are risking the davina exercise dvds too...
it's my bmi that is motivating me the most tbh, although the jeans i can't get up are a whole other story.
monday seems to be the weigh-in day... so you've got nearly a week!

Hi, me me me me!! Can I play?

I started at the beginning of the week after seeing the FoodFocus thingy.

God, it is bloody addictive! And I ticked 2 pounds (BIG MISTAKE)

Anyway, I'm not measuring or weighing myself...

I have a skirt. It's a plain black skirt that I used to wear BC. I can kinda get into it but I look like a sack of spuds.

So I'm not going to try it on for a couple of weeks and see how I go.

Good luck wink

Hello sonnet and bumdiddly. That dress is beautiful, bling. I haven't tried on my wedding dress since I got married, hmmmm, maybe I should and that would provide extra motivation!!

Well Davina arrived today, so did the power of 3 thingy. I like how she pretends to be finding it really hard, to make you feel better, but I wish she'd stop saying "oh I love this tune!" every 5 seconds!! And I notice that she didn't have to put up with two toddlers thinking the whole thing was hilarious and clambering all over her hmm

I have put in all my calories for today as I know what I'm having for dinner and I'm about 200 over blush

But I have been under for the last 2 days so I'm not going to fuss.

It's my wedding anniversary this weekend too!!

We're going out for dinner hmm Fish and salad a go go I think!

My weakness is wine...

It doesn't help that there is a wine box in the fridge that calls to me of an evening.

"Driiiiiiink me, I'll make you feel warm and ffuuuuuuuuuzzzzzyyyyy"

I'm also partial to a sherry or two. You may as well drink lard smile

I just can't physically drink one glass. I have to have two...maybe I should get bigger glasses...

I WISH my boobs were the first to go! <<ducks>> Under the boobs is the first - always have to land up buying new bras with the cup size getting bigger and bigger all the time. I try to be philisophical about it but it's hard.

I can't give up wine. So am trying to compromise - only drink it every second day. Today's an off day. Can already feel the "but it's been a long day" whining going on in my head.

Are you all feeling hungry for your meals? I think I used to snack so much I never really got that hungry - or appreciated the taste of food.

Think I may need to up the cals a bit though; think I might be under eating and if I do this I will be more likely to binge on rubbish. I am well down on my target 1330 cals. Will have a snack before dinner.

The wedding dress is gorgeous. We have been married 15yrs so I had the traditional big hooped job! I was so skinny at the time - my size 10 had to be taken in and i'm 5ft 8.

Hey ladies, glad you are all getting in to the swing of things!!

Wine isn't such a big deal for me, I can take it or leave it really, more of a social thing really.

I think you can 'use' the extra calories from exercise if needed, ie if you are off out for a meal, but I am trying not to use them at the in the belief (right or wrong?) it might help kick start my weight loss?

Also need to get back in the habit of drinking more water. I can usually do about a litre but any more than that I struggle with. I also find that helps to make me feel less hungry too.

Seems like we all know what we need to do, but it's actually getting into the routine of doing it properly thats the tough bit!!

Bling - congrats on the impending nuptuals! I had a gorgeous but huge dress when I got married (so know what you mean medogs) and (if) I ever do it again, I would be determined to look a lot better than I did.

Welcome sonnet and bumdiddly - there seem to be a few of us that are 5' 2" sonnet! And any exercise is a bonus bumdiddly, even just a ten minute quick walk.

Romy - hope dh's grandad is doing well.

Went for a half hour walk with the kids, well dd (6) went on her bike so me and ds (13) kept having a race to catch her up, so there was the odd burst of running (me with one hand holding my pants up and the other holding my norks down). What a sight!

Kids off to their dads later so may well wonder into town (2k walk) and get some healthy stuff in from asda.

Keep up the good work girlies!

Hi Just got back online

Thanks for the welcome

Not had much sucess in the weightloss department before but have never followed a diet - just eat healthily etc - maybe that is my problem??

For the ,oment I am trying to
1. Eat proper meals
2. no snacking!!
3. No wine
4. Drink more water
5. Exercise....

So far today:

Breakfast: slice of malt loaf, melon
Lunch: Small Jacket potato and a small portion of homemade curry ( canteen at work), followed by an apple
Snack: 2 slices of malt loaf blush
Supper: Roast chick, roast pots and veg - although will not have pots

Tis hard...Mum and Dad are here looking after DC whilst I am at work hence roast chicken tonight

It is exercise I find diff to do - when to fit in. I work 3 days per week and am too knackered in the evening.....
BUT I NEED to do it for my health

I saw some photos of me from holiday and I was shock ed.....

Would any of you guys recommend following a programe? - just going to look at food focus

Sonnet - I'm doing the same 5 point thing you're doing...

I'm going to have a peppermint tea now...luckily dh has nearly finished the wine box but I can still hear the sherry cooing at me grin
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By medogsarebarking on Wed 20-Aug-08 19:56:58
Sonnet - the advantage to using a site to help with weight loss for me was learning about food in general - where your calories and fat etc come from, and about portion sizes. For example - I was amazed at how little 40g of cereal actually is! I had been having huge bowls of the stuff and thus using loads of calories. Of course it was museli so I though I was being mega healthy. I've learnt to fill my bowl up with extra fruit instead.

I also learnt that I'm a carboholic, and that I needed to balance my eating so that I was getting plenty of protein too - something I still find quite difficult.

Just done my food focus for the day - I've got about 400 cals left despite the ginger cake (does this mean I can have another piece? wink)

I think its because I've got a bigger calorie allowance than I'm used to - now I must resist the urge to use my extra cals, because I'd only be doing it for the sake of it and I'm really not hungry.

Peppermint tea a brill idea - I've got some camomile and honey so I'll have some of that (and no ginger cake, honest).

Welcome Sal smile

Thanks medogsarebarking.

Ok, here goes: I'm 68kg (10.7 stone), would feel really, really happy on 58 (9.1 according to the weight converter site). So that's just over one and a half stone to go shock Would be so good to be able to wear all those perfectly tagged trousers bought in a moment of madness optimism.

Difficult morning with a groggy post-jabs and teething baby, I comfort ate / one-handedly-grabbed 3 sausage rolls from the fridge for lunch... Tried making up for it by making wholemeal pitas for us with grilled spicy chicken and salad filling for dinner. Will try harder tomorrow, and I know I should really, really drink more water (which shouldn't be difficult, since I'm not drinking any blush).
