ok, I'll join as you asked so nicely!

It's weigh-in day for me tomorrow so tonight is the night for denial and flagellation. So far I have lost 12.5 lbs, hoping for stone award tomorrow. I have another stone to go then I am back into a healthy weight range. I know SW works, I have done it after each of my 3 dcs but I am a bit bored now, cant stand much more bloody quorn. Ho hum, it works, nothing else does for me.

I joined a week ago - lost 1.5 lbs in first week which is a bit poor really. Must try harder. Four years since I last went (after ds was born), needless to say I weigh more now than I did then. think I would like to lose 3 stone but will probably get fed up before then.

bunny3 - I don't do quorn! What do you use quorn for? I use HE2 worth of meat instead, much better to that forfeit me thinks.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By SWlurker on Thu 17-Jul-08 08:27:01
Hello!! Godo to see new faces!

I DO do quorn, but also beans/pulses/lentils etc - could you substitute those for a change?

I had a slip up last night so today is a fresh thread, fresh start etc. I am not going to classes for a while (V tight money situ) so have promised myself a decent set of scales next time I'm paid grin Until then just trying to be reasonably well on track. hmm

Hello I would like to join - like sw am not going to classes , am ordering the books off e- bay so am a bit ignorant about some basic rules.
bunny3 good to hear it works better than other diets for you. Quorn mince is like sponge yuk! I can eat the sausages with brown sauce though. Have not got loads to lose but really don't feel like me anymore iykwim . I think it will be slow . good luck all grin

hello all!

Biting the bullet and joined slimming world last wed. First weigh in yesterday and lost 3.5 lbs! Yeah!! Wish it was 3.5 stone!
Plotting it on the sw websitew and I like it because it shows when (date) I'll be at my target!
Red day today and can't decide between chicken curry (free) or srambled eggs/bacon/mushrooms for lunch?
Also have 2 kids to cook for (2 and 9 months) so quite difficult to make sure they eat too!

Good luck everyone!

Well I'm back at class been going for four weeks now weigh in on a Tuesday lost 6.5lb first week, 3lb second week and maintained last two weeks! gonna kick my but into touch this week and be really good as I know Saturday will be a bad day drink wise as its my mums 50th birthday party at bowling and laser questing so looking forward to that and saving plenty of flexi sins for the vodka! but still hoping for a loss on weigh in night.

Yesterday was an ok day slimming-wise - I am doing it budget style at the moment as am V skint - finding out that things like sainsburys basics pasta & sauce equivilant is only 2 syns, so in my opinion worth substituting if strapped for cash (75p vs 23p) grin

I would be really grateful if someone could answer the following;

1- re. 28g cheese is it supposed to be half fat?
2- What quantity of meat is a HE on a red day? How about tinned salmon?
3- Do you need to have 2 of A and 2 of B a day?
4- I usually like to eat wholemeal bread but full size , how would I manage two a day , would that be HE and a syn ?

Thanks for your patience if you can be bothered please include a list of the most common HE grin

colette - cheese can be normal cheddar. on a red day, meat is free so you can eat as much as you want including tinned salmon, you could have 10 tins if you wanted as well as a couple of chickens!!

You don't need 2 a but you do need 2 b's. yes if your bread is over your b allowance you need to syn it

Hi all.
I'm here to confess - I've been completely off the plan this week.

It's end of term so school has been full of goodies.

I also had some sad news (www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1373&threadid=568290#11607722)

and did resort to comfort eating blush

We're out at a BBQ tomorrow but after that I really have to get back onto the plan.

Give me a good talking to please!!!

Yes,hectich, that's exactly what I'm planning on doing.
I'm doing it on my own because I can't get to a class so I'm really relying on you guys to help me stay on the straight and narrow.

I always lose very slowly but I know the plan works when I stick to it.
If I can lose a few pounds between now and my holiday in August I'll be happy.

There's a lot of new names on here since I was last on the SW thread. Has anyone seen Sparlker around? She's joined this thread as many times as I have blush

Oh Christie sorry to hear that sad

What do you think it wil take to get us all back on track? Maybe we use this thread as an online diary? Or open another thread as a pur diary thread and have this as hints and tips?

I made a lovely pasta bake last night - cooked pasta, passatta, mixed herbs, sweetcorn and rehydrated soya (tesco wholefoods dried soya is free so I have just discovered, and cheaper than quorn mince) - with low fat cheese on top. It was lovely, so good that I ate it all in one evening blush ... amazingly it was 4 HE of cheese, so I was ok as hadn't had any HEbs that day either!

Contemplating my dinner. I might try making meatballs out of that mince stuff hmm

Gawd, I've been really crap. I maintained this week (weigh-in thursdays)and have fallen completely off the wagon. Ds is having lots of problems at school and I had a difficult meeting with his teacher and SENCO. Since then I have comfort eaten BIG time - cakes, chocolate, biscuits, puddings plus vast amounts of alcohol last night. Now I have three days to try and undo all the bad stuff. Looks like more quorn for me then!

Furball, you asked about quorn... well, I dont eat much meat so am used to meat subs and quite like them. Quorn mince is fab for chillli, bolognaise, cottage pie type of things. Quorn chicken style pieces are horrible, the beef style ones even worse imo. Sausages and burgers are ok (microwaved burgers are minging though, they go all rubbery.)
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By SWlurker on Mon 21-Jul-08 14:19:10
Ah y'see I prefer the chicken bits to the mince - I love the taste of quorn though, so I know I'm in the minority for starters! hmm

Have yanked my SW head back on and am back on track. Had puny amounth of cereal and milk for brekkie, a tin of spaghetti for a snack (don't ask I'm weird) and smash and baked beans for lunch, followed by weetabix and milk for a sweet tooth this afternoon.

Still got that sweet tooth though, so might treat myself to an options with a cheeky square of dark chocolate smile

Hi all just reading all your posts and catching up. It was my mums 50th birthday on Saturday and we went bowling and laser questing it was great, the food was very un-slimming world Burger and chips and somehow I managed to drink around eight pints of cider (from what we can remember! Oh I have been so ill even today!!!!! plus I had a Mcdonalds yesterday (great for hangovers honest) so if I maintain this week I'll be more than happy altho I'm making up with exercising loads and eating superfree food but only tomws weigh in will tell. hello can I join please?

been doing sw on and off for some years now. had a ds in august last year and have managed to lose the baby weight...however I have a tendancy to be great and lose weight then I either stay the same for a month or so (not so bad) or put loads back on (bad). Admittedly I don't think I have fallen off but rather been ran over by the wagon instead. Keep getting my books out and plan and then after 1 meal I begin to scoff and ruin the whole day, you'll be surprised at how many bags of crisps and slices of toast I can eat in 15 mins.

Must start cooking though thats my down fall, along with eating when not hungry.

Look forward to sharing some menus

I am still looking to buy the slimming world books at a reasonable price (not the e-bay £25 angry) or get to a class. I have found some info on the internet and just started anyway. I have lost about 2lb in a week which is fine.
However I am a bit stuck on healthy extras .
Would anyone tell me how much wholemeal bread is on the healthy extra b list please ?
I have had 28g of branflakes today from the healthy extras b and hope that I should be able to include some bread as well .

Thanks all

Hi all, being OKish at the mo although had 15 syns yesterday. I am on a night out this Friday but hoping to just have vodka and diet coke and eating before I go out so I'm in control. That is the plan, hopefully I will just do it!

Collette, you can have 57g wholemeal roll or two slices wholemeal bread but from a small 400g loaf not a normal 800g load i.e. nimble.

I think I have an old SW book in the back of my kitchen cupboard, would you be interested in that? Bearing in mind it isn't completely up to date??

hi eveyyone - put on a pound so not too damage done at the weekend.

Have discovered a really yummy salad dressing. It's Sainsbury's God for You sweet red pepper dressing. It's only about 1/2 syn for 3 tablespoons (you wouldn't have that much anyway) and it is lovely - really livens up a salad or plain rice if you're adding things to it to make a salad or something. I would reccommed it! smile

Hi everyone. Lost 1.5 lb which is good but I have lost 3lb in the time it's taken Holly to lose 13! well done you. Had a stand in consultant this week as usual one is on hols, she was great and really enthused everyone. She thinks it is important to include speed foods at every meal (aim for 8-10 speed foods a day!) and try not to eat excessive amounts of fruit between meals even though it's free. For example I have been feeling very virtuous having jacket potato with cottage cheese at lunch but jacket potato with baked beans is better and jacket potato with baked beans and side salad is even better than that! I have rushed straight from class to asda to stock up on speed food and will be subjecting hubby to it all this week. Am treating myself to glass of wine tonight though smile

Oh Heavy thats useful to know, I have just started (well just got back from my 1st week weigh in) and absolutely gutted only lost 1.5.

I was hoping for a good 1st week, especially as I tried really hard and stuck totally to plan, was so proud of myself until I stood on the scales!

Now I feel really down. Wish your motivational woman had been at our meeting, not keen on the consultant at mine tbh sad

sad angry sad

I am so fed up. Just got on the scales. My worst fears true- I weight the heaviest I have ever been! I have been halfheartedly trying to follow SW for months and not so long ago stopped going to class because my heart wasn't in it. I felt confident and happy even though I knew I was over weight. Its back to earth with a crash- I have a date tomorrow with a bloke I really like and I can't wear my loveliest top, so have settled for a "safe" cover up baggy one instead. sad

I am going to "last out the week" on the food I have got (SW friendly, apart from the bar of chocolate which will be BINNED!!) and on Friday when I get paid have a SERIOUSLY slimming speed food shop. I can see a lot of salad based meals coming my way!!

Thanks Heavy. (I hope you change your name to something lighter soon, it won't be appropriate when you weigh less! grin)

Am in a more positive frame of mind today because I've decided to do something about it. Lots of speed foods and not spending my syns on silly things. I am also going to cut chocolate out. I know SW is all about not cutting things out completely, but I'm not sensible and can't stick to a small amount of chocolate, and find that if I cut it out then after a couple of days I don't crave it any more. wink

heavy thats good feedback from your consultant I think I may take some of that advice on board.

glitterkitty 1.5 loss is good I seem to lose around that first week then the next weeks become better, stick with it you will see the results. aim for 1-2 lb a week anything more is a bonus (although I know we all want more I especially do)

SW come on you can do it. Spruce yourself up tonight and enjoy yourself hope the date goes well smile I agree though I am like you with choc, more so with crisps/savoury if I have one it leads to more but if I cut it out I cope better.

I know of someone who ate lots of fruit and got asked to cut down and the result was a weight loss, they were eating too much sugar from the fruit doesn't matter if they are natural or otherwise.

well today so far so good, porridge for brek and boli pasta sauce for lunch with 2 babybel. the best I have done for a long time even refused some choc! shock

weigh in tomorrow so will see what damage done and fresh week tomorrow.

I am a lurker on the SW threads. I may have contributed a few months ago but did the diet half heartedly for a short period of time. As a result....no weight loss. Anyway, to cut a long story short I need to give myself a good kick up the backside and knuckle down and do. I have about 5 stone to lose...yikes! Hope the rest of you are doing ok. tried those Quorn cheesy bakes last night they are like a fish cake type thing using quorn and 7 syns for 1 I checked after I ate but hey ho and they just tasted of onion really so wouldn't be buying those again too bland and well tasteless.

Hey everyone

Welcome to newcommers - we need you!!

I have had a week of 14 syn days so a bit hmm about it but at least I'm back in control. Next week I am going to get serious about keeping weekday syns down so I can enjoy them at the weekends, and eating loads of speed foods.

Bought some salad - amazed myself by being full after a plate of lettuce, tomato, cucumer and cottage cheese, so felt a bit saintly after that! grin really fancied quiche with the rest of the salad but resisted and had it with cottage cheese again, so even if I did have 14 syns yesterday I consider I was VERY good!

SW 14 syns a day is great means you didn't go over the 15 smile Salads are the way to go when I make an effort with them I enjoy them. great to hear you back on track. Do you measure your HE's? maybe try measuring them if you don't already might help. (although I can't talk) Just a thought too, were you having a red or green meal I was told once each meal must be either green or red, so either meats/fish or pasta equivilents added to your salads rather than them be from the free foods.

Hi all, I am SW'ler....and am so upset right now....yesterday I went to weigh in and I was extrememly good the whole week, because, well, my goal was to loose 3 1/2 pounds and to get to my first stone....well, when I went onto the scales I had put 2 Ibs on...I mean, come on....tis not fair....! I don't get bothered if I put on and I know it's my own doing....but I written down every morsel that went into my mouth, and I used extreme self discipline, too...because, I had to bake several cakes in that week and I never licked the spoon once etc....!
The only thing I did different this past week, was having a fair few mix2match days....maybe that just doesn't work for me....I don't know....I really don't....sigh!
To rub it in, there were lots of women yesterday that did get their first stone award, etc....that really didn't help at all....! Obviously I am pleased for them...but could I not at least have lost a little?

Oh, and I tried out a recipe from that 100 saucy secrets book, the barbecue sauce...and it is really tasty....what with it being barbecue season, I thought I let ya know...it's synfree, which is a bonus....

3andnomore - did your consultant look over your food diary, and are you 100% sure you did M2M properly, i.e. superfree foods in between meals etc? Keep on track this week and maybe next week you'll have a big loss that makes up for it, I used to find that often my weight gain/loss corresponded to how good or bad I'd been the previous week - maybe I'm just a bit slow wink is is start week?

Thank you firststar, I always think going up to 15 every day isn't very good but I do need to remember that it is allowed! At least I feel in control again. Interesting point about green or red foods with it, in the "olden days" i.e. 4 years ago we were always told to keep the whole day free on both if we were going out for dinner if we didn't know what the menu was so that we could decide red or green at the meal. hmm

swlurker...no she didn't go through my food diary...because we had a taster session we didn't really get into each individual...and also, I don't have a food diary as such, I just write it all down in my personal food diary, iykwim...just to keep on track...
I definately only snacked on superfree foods, though, i.e. fruit and free yoghurts...well, or I snack on Hifi Bar and use an healthy extra....!
My problem is, that we will be going to the Indian on Saturday and I am planning on indulging....we go out so very rarely, so, if we do, I want to enjoy myself proper, iykwim...hohum...!
I must say, normally I loose weight quite easily, when putting my mind to it, not as easily as I can put it on though, sigh....and this time it's all very slow progress, which isn't helpful at all...albeit might mean that I am hopefully more able to stay at goalweight, once I reach my target...

3andnomore, Saturday is fine, you know your options but just in case I'll run through them with you...
1) Save syns up until then. Check syn values of what you want, plan in advance, and stick to it
2) Go flexible - plan and work out syns as per point 1, but have them on top of your normal allowance so you're not deprived for the rest of the week. Result is unlikely to be a gain because you stayed in control all the time, and at the end of the day it is only one meal.
3) Say stuff it and forget yourself for the night, but get back on track the next day. Probably not something your consultant will say to you but I know its an option many of us would take!! grin

Does it involve alcohol? My top tip would be make sure you've got stuff for the morning after that is both SW friendly and that you're going to fancy!! wink

lost a pound this week smile
I tink it is more dofficult over the holidays because of all the picnics etc. Am doing a picninc today for DSs and making yet another rice salad for myself but I'm trying to be good so that when I go on holiday, I'm not going to worry about it all too much.

Well done Tommy!

I have the same prob re. summer holidays hence why I've had 3 bad days. We've been going out and taking the kids places to eat and trying to find something SW friendly is almost imposs!!

I'm on hols on 27 Sept so a while to go yet but I cannot afford to put any on so I'll keep plodding on!

bunny at least there is no gain, good luck for this week

sticktoit good luck getting back on that wagon. I haven't been good either I have eaten a large bar of choc over the past two days and eaten pizza and chips not the sw variety so not looking good for me either I will try and be good today.

tommy well done on your weight loss and very good on you with your picnics and rice salad smile we had a sort of picnic on sunday but dh got the bits together and guess what no consideration for me just crisps and snacks so you see I had no choice hmm

sticktoit - there are some advantages in having children who are so fussy with their food that we can't go anywhere to eat out - we always have to take picnic

Hello

Had 2 bad days - one where I gave up because I had been good all week so had a blow out on sunday (long car journey, I always found that difficult, so boring driving by yourself, but that's no excuse as I managed to stick to it on the way there.)

Other bad day was yesterday, 22 syns but that doesn't mean disaster - am calling it 15 and carrying 7 to today, so will just be careful about what I have syns-wise today. I want a bottle of wine at the weekend so have to save 35 syns throughout the week too!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By SWlurker on Tue 29-Jul-08 09:58:21
Tommy - don't get bored with rice salads, will you - if you're like me If I get bored I'll give up and grab crisps etc - do you do any red days? Could you have rolled up slices of ham and extra light laughing cow cheese triangles (6 for 1 HEa)? The kids might like them too?

Or if green then what about pasta salad, or cold pasta bake from the night before (if you're organised!!), loads of fruit, cous cous with salad bits in....? Does that give you any more ideas? smile
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Tommy on Tue 29-Jul-08 13:20:26
thanks swlurker. I only do green as we are veggie. I just need to vary what I put in them really. Today I had tuna (as health ex B) and tomatoes and cucumber with vegetable byriani. Yesterday I had quorn ham. Last week I did a nice couscous one with all the salady bits and half a can of chickpeas and some half fat feta cheese - that was really nice
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By bunny3 on Tue 29-Jul-08 15:12:11
More picnic ideas welcome please! I usually end up with cold quorn sausages (ok with some colmans mustard to dip), hard boiled eggs, laughing cows, quorn scoth eggs (1 syn each and really nice), spanish omlette if I can be ar$ed.

Feeling bloaty today so have had some water retention tablets. Desperate for a loss on Thursday.

well I've not gone to class tonight very naughty I know! but on my scales I have put on 4lb so you can imagine how far off plan I've been this week eating anything and everything just lost the plot completely. As of tomw I'm back on plan I can't put all the hard work to waste and I'm back at work next week and would love my uniform to fit better. I'm going to step up the exercise (as in start doing it!) and stick to plan 100% and try to make a little loss next week x

Hello
Went to class last night and have lost 3.5 lbs! Was slimmer of the week smile
I did drink a ridiculous amount of vodka at the weekend but I have been really good with my speed foods.
Have been using the slimming world website to chart my progress: magic graph shows I can get to my target before christmas - am determined to keep the line going down not up.
Dinner of the week (green day) was shepherds pie made with quorn mince (S), peppers (S)and mushrooms (S) topped with carrot (S) and swede (S) mash served with peas (SS) and broad beans (SS). You could eat the shepherds pie on either day though and just serve it with something different.
There is a big feature on picnics in the slimming world magazine this month.
New password is cress x

Hello

I'm still here too, not much movement on this thread at the moment, is there?

Heavy, you have inspired me for a dinner for next week! grin My last night's dinner was rather scrumy and very easy. I sliced a load of potatoes and onions, and layered in a deep dish, spraying each layer with fry light and herbs/seasoning, and chucked the whole thing in the oven on a low ish heat for 1 - 1 1/2 hours. last 10 minutes cooking time I added HEa cheese and and tiny sliver of butter, and it was gorgeous, even if I do say so myself!!!

I'm posting just to keep myself in check really. I'm having a few days off.......

I've been feeling quite low recently and had a pregnancy scare thing this week and my head just isn't in it. I start with all good intensions, well you know how it is.

Anyway back on plan Sunday latest. Can't risk putting any of the weight back on!

I tried the butternut squash and lentil curry, found it on the website. It is pretty good did not have any spinach but added peppers and courgettes to bulk it out a bit. Freezes well and you can have it with jacket potatoe as well. I am losing weight very slowly.
Sticktoit can understand why your mind was not on dieting ! Hope you're o.k

I fell off wagon yesterday when unexpectedly ended up in pizza hut for lunch (and it was a bloody buffet, disaster!). Then wine last night and I am going out this evening too so undoubtedly more wine and food. I must must must get back to SW before it all goes completely pear-shaped.

Sticktoit, good luck. I have every sympathy!

Hello Me23 - having a date in mind really helps as you can't keep putting it off. Wornoutwaitress - I think I would have a kit kat instead then . Is the fruit cooked ? Doesn't sound like it is . You can look foods up on the website.
I am thinking of doing a mix'n'match and would be grateful for advice . I have had a green lunch- baked potatoes , cheese and beans.
If I have youngs salmon in watercress sauce ( free on original) does that mean I can't have any sort of carbs with it without it being a sin? I would rather spend the sins on wine especially since dcs are diving me mad since dh away. wink

i think you could have some as a healthy extra. no the ripe and juicy fruits are just frozen fruits. not sure what makes them have syns as usually frozen fruit is still free.

btw just thought i'd share this with you all.

Thanks nappyaddict I thought because I had already had some potatoes (though free on a green lunch ) that would count as a healthy extra . I should be really good today as I wasn't yesterday - wine then small bag of crisps then more wine then toast and jam the a few of the kids chocolates shock

you can have 2 HEb as potatoes so it depends how many you had for lunch i guess.

Oh dear I've been on plan weekdays and off plan weekends - need to pull it together!! I just have too much synful food in the house! Have decided that if I can't control my cheese consumption (I can't!) then I just won't be allowed it, so am not buying in any more cheese and am having milk as my HEAs - just cutting something out alltogether works well for me with chocolate, otherwise I crave it more and more, so hopefully this will work for me, and if I don't have it in the house, I can't eat it..! hmm Not going to say no to the odd portion of it if I go out for a meal though wink

in fact, I am going to put away all my little synful things like ketchup, mayo etc - I want my syns for a bottle of wine at the weekend, and at the moment its going on silly things. hmm
Hope everyone else is on track!

Just had an omelette with beef in this chilli sauce thing.

2 garlic cloves minced
1 fresh red chilli or 4 dried red chilli's
5 teaspoons sweetener
Juice & pulp of 1/4 lime
4 tablespoons of fish sauce
5 tablespoons of water

Pound garlic, chilli's & sugar in a mortar and pestle.
Stir in the lime juice & pulp, then the fish sauce and water; mix and combine the ingredients well.

Well, I lost 3lb in my first week back on the plan smile. SW really does work! Best friend is also slimming but with Rosemary Conley as she likes the exercise class. Wish I could get to a class but no chance with dhs work hours. Friend wants to know if children can do SW as her 8 yr old ds is very overweight-could one of you ask your class leader?

Hi all

I think you have to be 11 to join the childrens version of slimming world theres a hole section on the sw website.
Well still haven't got my head into gear food wise, but I have joined a new gym it has a circuit of resistance machines and exercise stops that you use for 30 seconds each and do the circuit 3 times equaling 30 minutes of exercise I'm planning on going every day after work to make the most of it whilst the kids are on half term they measure and weigh you every month at the gym to monitor your progress I'll let u know how I get on. I'll still be going to class with my mum and friends sw will keep an eye on my eating the gym will get me to exercise (hopefully)!!

I'm not doing SW at the moment, instead I am doing 2 weeks of slimfast due to my holiday coming up. I don't know if its working yet, today is day 4 and I am sticking to it, just.

After the holiday I can get back to SW and actually cook some healthy meals which is proving to be my downfall.

Hi everyone - I maintained this week which is pretty amazing since have eaten a lot of non SW stuff (fish and chips from the shop don't really figure much on SW do they? blush) I really want to lose a couple more pounds before my holiday if I can as I know I won't stick to the plan then.

KateF - why doesn't your friend just start the plan with her DD anyway? It's a very healthy way of eating and cutting out biscuits, cakes etc is a good place to start for anyone

Hi, I'm new to this, after being persuaded to try by my Aunt who has done SW for years. I am doing it by myself, as can't really justify the money on a class at the moment, so could do with some support.

I have struggled with my weight for years, and have about 8 stone to lose, but I'm more determind this time. First weigh day is tomorrow, so we shall see. I can't believe how much I can eat on SW. In the past I have counted calories, and always felt hungry. I have found this week very easy.

I have spent 2 days reading though all the messages since January, and have picked up some really good tips, thanks
