I was doing slimming world until last night. I was doing it since June and haven't lost a single pound since Aug.

I think it's time for change. I am starting WW on Tuesday. Any body else up for joining me.

how much do you have to lose shortandsweet?

there are lots of us on the lulu has lost her 3 stone thread doing ww. We all had 3 stone plus to lose to begin with but some of us have less now

ww is easy i think. You must be really pissed off to be doing sw for that long without losing anything. I would have lost my resolve ong ago with it

I was on a thread where someone linked to a thread that said how many points you can have a day
Mine came to 19 points (am ft6 and 10st9)
but I have no idea what to do next blush
the thought of eating different food to the rest of the family puts me off too...

you can eat the same as the whole family on ww

if you join they give you a starter pack which you can follow, you are not tied into anything. I do find meetings and a weekly weigh in helpful though for me to stay on track

I've done ww before and lost loads with it, but then had a baby and put it all back on again!

I need to lose some weight (about 2 stone) and although I won't be going to meetings I'll certainly do it along with you

I am starting Atkins on Monday. We can compare notes if you like and see how we get along. I am doing this to get the kick start I need to shift the baby weight then after a few months may revert back to WW. SW has never worked for me.
WW is really easy to do when you have a family as you can eat the same as everyone else. Good luck!! smile

Thanks everyone. Well I have about 4 stone to lose. I only lost 1.5st at SW and have put 4lb of that back on because my hearts not in it anymore.

I know WW have an extra option now, it's call core and you don't have to count points. Has anyone done this and did they find it any good?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By FioFio on Thu 28-Feb-08 12:54:18
I just do the points plan, havent tried the core plan sorry. I am not organised enough to do the core plan, plus my brain is too small and full to think properly...

and well done on losing 1.5s thats really good

Hey Jodyray how's the diet going?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By collision on Mon 03-Mar-08 13:13:51
I am doing WW and have lost 7lbs in 3 weeks which I am really pleased about.

i do points and not core as you eat as much as you like (til you are full) and I am never full so it didnt work for me!!

You eat the same as everyone else but add lots of veg and drink lots of water and you will be fine.

It is so easy!

Just work out what it is you like to eat.

Example....DH is doing this WW with me. He would rather count 2pts and have olive oil on his salad. I would rather have plain salad and a pack of Skips in the evening which is 2pts too.

I also find that I need to have my head around it and its not really about food but how you are feeling.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By mammya on Mon 03-Mar-08 13:24:08
Hi I'll join you, I started WW last week and have already lost 2lbs! grin Mind you I have about 5 stone to lose so I'm not there yet sad

I've got the handbook and the points calculator from when I did WW and actually joined before. This time I'm just doing it by myself, i.e. haven't joined again and not going to meetings, so having a bit of support here will be great.

I'm doing full choice (points) at the moment, but may switch to no count later on. It's good to start with counting the points as you get a better idea of portion sizes. Otherwise, like Collision says, there is a risk of just eating and eating.

No count is really easy though, there is a list of foods that you can eat freely, and you get a 21 points weekly allowance that you can use on foods not in the list of free foods, for instance if you want to add oil to your salad or have a glass of wine.

Anyway good luck to you all!

My weigh in day is on Monday so I'll check in here next Monday, but will definitely pop in before that! smile

hiya! i have been doing ww since jan and have lost 1 stone. i still have another stone to lose. i have been doing the core plan and find it really easy! main problem is you have to cook something properly most nights cant have ready meals like you can on the points plan. you are allowed so much stuff though its really easy.

Hi, I was on the thread with posieflump last week <waves hello> I bought the points books off someone on here and started last Thursday. I'm really quite impressed with the points system and I've really thought about the food i'm eating and the quantity. I'm not going to weigh ins but will weigh myself at home. My weigh in day is Thursday. Do we post how much we've lost or not each weigh in day? or something else?

Hi can I join you? Can't actually get to a ww meeting as they are all in the evenings round here and dh can't get back in time.

Have done it lots of times before but lose about 10lbs then slip back into my old ways.

Am trying to look at it from a health point of view so to get to a BMI of 25 I need to lose just over 2 stone but would ideally like to lose 3 stone to be back to the weight I was when I got married (nearly 20 years ago!)

I am trying to stick to 18 points a day for the first week (just can't do this no count thing- prefer to count points) but then move to about 21.
Have a dog so lots of brisk walk and also like swimming.

Spent a while yesterday looking at my ww cookbooks and have made a list for the supermarket.

Going to weigh in on Tuesdays.

Do you all count your exercise points and then allow yourself more to eat?

i dont. i do go to the gym twice a week and aqua aerobics, but i think that if you do eat the extra points then its not worth all the effort. i would rather have a quicker weight loss, personally.

yesterday i had poached eggs on toast of breakfast. for 5 points.
fills me up like a proper meal

11 pounds in 5 weeks is brilliant!! All the research says that if you lose more quickly than that it won't stay off.

I found it helpful to think pregnancy - one trimester equals a stone (and a half maybe). That's pretty good going.

I lost 2 stone 3 pounds last year but have maintained ever since - would love to lose one more stone but have lost all motivation.

Love food too much blush

Lizandlulu tiger bread is a batch type loaf that you get in the bakery area of the supermarket, its called tiger bread because it has tiger like markings on it. But I filled myself up on it and only had a bowl of cherrios for dinner last night.

Lizandlulu do you realise you have lost 22 packs of butter in only 5wks, thats fantastic. Think of each pound as 2 pack of butter and you soon realise how much fat is coming off you.

11 lbs in 5 weeks! Well done lizandlulu.grin

My friend who is a gymn instructor has always said that although a lb of fat and a lb of muscle wiegh the same- muscle takes up less room so even if you haven't lost much in one week your insides are still likely to be healthier and leaner.

Agree about the cross trainer- should have it as an exhibit in the torture chamber!

I like the butter analogy. I think of bags of sugar. 1 bag of sugar for every 2 pounds then imagine carrying a bag round all the time with however many bags of sugar in weight you have lost. 11lbs would be like carrying round 5 and a half bags of sugar.

Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By ShortandSweet on Wed 05-Mar-08 09:35:10
Diet soft drinks. They taste sweet and take the craving away. I would probably drink 1 500ml bottle a day. But I also recommend lots of water.

Curly wurlys are only 2.5 points and WW do cheesy puffs (from the supermarket) for a point so you could have your naughty things if you wanted to.

Jaffa cakes are good as long as you don't eat the whole packet grin

How old is your child? I weighed my 18 month old the other day and she is 2 stone - OMG - I used to carry that around all the time. I carry her for ten minutes and I'm shattered!

I am now eating pretty much what I want, just slightly less and more careful about fat. When you've done WW for a while you get to know the real high points stuff - cheese, sausages, crisps, cake etc. I can manage sweet cravings with WW cake bars or a square of dark chocolate.

My downfall is wine (My friend told me that it only used to be one point hmm. The wine is high points and then after two glasses my resolve weakens and the cheese looks too tempting ....

I have spent the whole day feeling starving and have already gone over my points. eggs and toast for breakfast and starving by 10.30. Banana and yog then starving again by 12. crackers, low fat cheese, slim a soup , yog and tomatoes for lunch and starving at 2.30. Tea at 6 (sweet and sour chicken) and another yog and now I'm starving again. Have had 21 points which is what I am allowed. Where am I going wrong- I will never last at this rate no way I will ever be able to survive on 18 points when I get down another 1.5 stone.

smartie - I know this isn't right but I don't have breakfast, if I do I eat and eat and eat. I get over the hunger by drinking water constantly. If I got really hungry i'd either do something to keep me occupied or have a hot chocolate or a can of diet pepsi but I wouldn't have that til after 10.30. I generally have lunch between 12.30-1.00 and a yoghurt or crispbread or can of diet pepsi at around 3.30, then tea at 5.30-6.00 ish. I have found that if I drink alcohol in the evening I want to munch, if not i'll have cup of hot milk around 8.30 just to keep me going till bed.

Smartie, try filling yourself with vegetables, most vegetables are worth 0 points. For instance for lunch I have a massive salad with lettuce, carrots, peppers, spring onion, cucumbers, steamed cold brocoli and any other suitable vegetables, I add a yogurt and vinegar dressing, and some protein in the shape of pulses (chick peas or red kidney beans usually) or cottage cheese, a table spoon or so of seeds and lots of herbs. Then in the evening fill half your plate with steamed vegetables. Try it, it works for me! Although I have to confess I have been naughty today and had a go at the biscuit tin. My excuse is that it's my time of the month and, considering how much rubbish I would normally eat in the circumstances, I haven't been too bad!

my ww leader says we should bulk our meals out with veg,m salad and eat loads of friut, which i do try to do, but with me working 3 days a week, it takes some planning to always have a variaty of fruit in the house.

i have just been in the gym for an hour, then aqua aerobics for 45 mins. my legs are killing me and i will sleep well tonight!

came back and had cup of milky coffee and 2 rice cakes with nutella on. better than a choc bar i suppose.

Well done short and sweet. Its the best feeling. Its such an incentive to continue on. Woohoo smile

Smartie - I too agree with the others about the salad and veg. I've cut out potatoes and just eating loads of veg with my meal. Its very filling.

I have just bought myself a bread maker. A loaf is in the process of cooking. I will let you know whats it's like. I read in another thread that a woman bought a bread maker and the weight soon started shifting. So I am hoping this happens to me grin

my dh has bought some cider vinegar today. someone at work told him it burns fat or someting like that. you have to have 1cap full to 3 caps of water and drink it hmm
think i will wait and see if it works before having any myself!

Lizandlulu I have heard that too. Haven't tried it because I keep forgetting to buy it. Let me know how he gets on.

Well my bread came out perfect and is so yummy I have had 3 slices for dinner. I will not be buy shop bread again. I highly recommend a bread maker.

Woohoo I lost another 2 lbs this week! grin I didn't think I would have lost anything as I have had quite a few extras on top of my points allowance...

How are you all doing?

Shortandsweet, I don't get how getting a breadmaker would help you lose weight if you love bread? Surely having lots of yummy freshly baked bread would tempt you into eating far more of it than is reasonable? Or am I missing something?

I wouldn't eat more than any other bread, but maybe it helps because there is less crap in it. Who knows, I am willing to try anything once.

i have just booked 4 days in ibiza with my mate who is a size 10, so it is a bit more of an incentive to stick with it. i would like to wear a bikini and not look like a whale. its not till june, i am hoping to loose 2 more stone by then. but would still be 14 stone. not sure how i would lookhmm

Hi guys - can I join in? I started at a class last weds - it is local to work so is at lunchtime but is only an express weigh-in class - so you have a quick 1 to 1 chat with leader, get weighed then pay! Not much for the weekly fee - so will need the support from here!

I have been doing SW since June last year and only lost 1st 4lbs - i dont think it suited me - I only stuck with it as the consultant was a mum from school - she doesnt do the class now, and i returned towork from Mat leave - tried another class but it didnt suit me - plus DS is now walking so sitting around in a room for a hour is not his idea of fun!

At least this way I can keep an eye on my weight - aiming to lose 4lb a month - need to lose another 2 stone realistically.

hiya andyrobo237, i did slimming world too and lost about 2 stone which was fine, but found it really hard to eat out, or eat ready meals as everything came with rice/pototoes/chips. not good if you are having a green day!

i do think weight watchers is the way to go. sensible eating is what i need.

not what i want, but i want to be 12 stonegrin

I have signed up to the monthly pass so I can use the pc to track my points - I keep a note during the day and then put them in on the evening, and plan the next days food. I bought two melons today and have cut one of them up and put it in a tub in the fridge - there was 2 points in the whole thing, so I can keep nibbling at it all day - hopefully to keep me of the choc - I have a very sweet tooth - which is my problem as I can use half of my days points on two choc bars! I need to source low point bars so I can have a treat a day!

i have said earlier, boots shapers choc bars are low in points. not as good as the real thing, but still nice.
the strawberry one has 1 and half points, and mints one. most of them i think are 1 and half.

well done smartie. 4lb is great.

Can anyone help me? My mum and dad (who are both quite overweight) would like to have a go at WW but they haven't got the books.

Does anyone have any spare old books they no longer use, basically the shopping guide really. I'd obviously buy them plus P&P. TIA

Yes lizandlulu we are going to Florida. Only doing one week in the parks though then the second week on the gulf coast. I know what you mean about the long flight. We took our dds to Euro disney when they were little on the train and they loved it.(dd2 was only 22 months but lots to do)

Not sure what my baggage allowance is- will find out and let you know!!

Well done for losing nearly a stone that is such an achievement!

Hard when there is chocolate singing to you from nearby!
I had some chocolate left from some prizes I bought for my pupils which kept grinning at me every time I opened my desk drawer today. Managed to resist though.

Well done lizandlulu, I hope you're going to have a little celebration tomorrow. I think its important to have a day treating yourself (within reason). I had chips and pizza after my weigh in. It kept all cravings at bay for another week. Mind you i'm weighing myself in the morning so we'll see whether it did any harm grin I hope not.

hello
how many points in a magnum lolly?

I am on the plateau stage and I really shouldn't be doing things like eating choc ices

TIA

Sorry suzy I have no idea but I wouldn't think it would be to far off 5 points.

Well done lizandlulu, I have my first weight in today so hopefully I will be pleased. Going to take the weight I was at SW 2 weeks ago and compare it to today and see how much I have lost.

well done shortandsweet, thats greatsmile

i think there is 5 points on a magnum. you are better off with a solero which are about 2 i thinkhmm

the skinny cow lollys are good. the choc ones are 1 point each and taste quite nice.
