What else can she do?

I have a dear friend who suffered with depression for years. During that time she put on a lot of weight.

About four years ago she took a decision to get her house in order, saw the doctor and the depression is much better (but still comes and goes) She has also lost 4 stones in weight. Exercise has played a huge part in her rehabilitation and she currently runs about 20 miles a week, does a spin class, two weights classes and 3 core conditioning classes each week. She also cycles to and from work most days.

She's completely changed her diet, from frankly awful to really quite good, lots of freshly cooked food with fruit and veg. No crisps, biscuits or chocolate allowed in the house.

But, she's still a definite apple shape with a large wobbly belly (her words) and about another stone to lose to be a healthy weight.

I'm so proud of her and what she's achieved, but I'm at a loss as to what to suggest. The weight loss stalled about 12 months ago and if anything a few pounds have started to creep back on.

It may be a an idea to eat a bit more and do less exercise, just for a short while often when losing weight the body plateaus out and needs a kick start. Also as we get older it does become harder to lose those excess pounds. Failing that speak to the doctor/dietician

Thanks Sarah, someone else said that, but where's the logic/science in it?

No idea, just heard it a few times myself. Some i keep telling my DD to do as she is in the same situation, stuck at the same weight for ages. Sometimes if you are not eating enough your body goes into starvation and stores fat...i think lol

My mum changed from an apple size 14 to a slim, flat-tummy 8 with yoga and Pilates as they lengthen the muscles rather than bulking them.

I know she's not eating crisps etc but what is her portion control like? That's my issue when trying to lose weight - veg should be the only unlimited thing on her plate. Also does she drink fizzy drinks (even diet ones)? They can prevent weight loss.
