I have seen so many threads about Jillian Michaels 30 days shred and have looked on youtube and read up a bit about it, but I dont really understand the idea behind it. Obviously it is a short intense blast of excercise, everyday, to get very fast results. But is the idea that you keep on doing it past 30 days? And is that sustainable? I would imagine that you would get very bored of it after a while and also having to commit to excercise evey single day (even if it is only 20 minutes a day) might get a bit tiresome as well?
I never see anyone saying that they have been doing the shred for months, it is always people who are on day 3, or people who say that they did it a few months ago and are now starting back up again.
Or is it just supposed to be used for 30 days to sort of get you started, and then you continue onto a more moderate form of excercise as a more long term thing, as after doing the shred for a month you are stronger/fitter? So is it supposed to be more of a kickstart than a long term thing?
It is the same for Insanity, surely you can not keep up that sort of intense level of excercise every day (especially as that is longer isnt it?).
Well for me I am using it as an introduction back into exercise ... its only short sessions but already getting quick results after a couple of weeks (and I'm not doing it every day), I'm feeling stronger and more toned and it is motivating me to carry on with some form of exercise. I would not envisage doing it every day long term, but I wouldn't want to do the same thing every day anyway - I want to be fit enough to do lots of different types of exercise. And exercising every day isn't a chore but is fun once you are fit.
I started 30 day Shred last March I didn't do it to lose weight, I did it because i was stuck in a rut, feeling generally ergh and wanted to feel better about myself.
I am still exercising most nights, although I now have weekends off. I have done 30 Day Shred, Ripped in 30, No More Trouble Zones, 6W6P and Extreme Shred and Shed in the last year.
I agree it does get boring to do the same ones and i change about every month or depending on how long I want a workout to be. The most fun is buying a new workout DVD and trying to keep up with the new moves for the first few times
6W6P is my favourite, NMTZ is good too although really long. exercise helps with my IBS and does make me feel better in myself. I lost a stone last year, I haven't dieted and my weight has now leveled off and stayed the same for several months.
It's hard to get motivated sometimes but I think the 30DS has enough levels and exercises to keep you going for quite a while after 30 days!
There's acutally 3 different levels, so its not the same routine for 30 days I use it over winter as I'm normally a runner, but I don't like the cold so much <wimp>. I usually do it every weekday and have weekends off.
JM has other DVDS, you wont be surprised to know so you can move onto them
I started with 30 day Shred, then upped my weights and started it again, then moved onto Ripped, again upped my weights and now I do the last level of Shred followed by the last level of Ripped back to back. I found Shred first worked as an achievable way of getting back into shape and then found that I prefered sticking to different Jillian DVDs in different combinations. I don't find it boring at all and I have really improved my fitness and am more toned. There is a thread on here somewhere with lots of JM regulars...couldn't find it now to link it though.
