Hunger pangs are your body saying : Time to burn fat

So for all those who have done well losing weight this autumn,
enjoy the seasonal meals, but if you are not hungry, don't graze
and the more active you can be when a teeny bit peckish
the more fab you will look in your party dresses.

have nearly convinced myself

Nah a pang means i need another tin of chocs

ave nearly convinced myself

id rather graze on junk tbh grin

No, it's saying time to eat. If you ignore the feeling of hunger, your body will go into starvation mode and actually retain the fat.

Or am I missing the joke?

DingDongKethryverilyonHigh Fri 21-Dec-12 16:59:42

if you are, i am too Tee!

"starvation mode" is a myth put about by the food industry.
Medically it does not actually kick in until you have gone without food for several days, several times in quick succession.

Not a joke.
SO many people moan about having put on too much weight over Christmas, because they are listening to the adverts, not their bodies.

If I'm hungry, I eat something. I'm uncomfortable with the idea that you shouldn't, tbh. It doesn't have to be an entire gateau, but if your body needs food, feed it.

^ ^ this im not saying I stuff myself to bursting but if i feel a pang of hunger i will have something, I lived with a mother who never ate much and would make fat comments about people she would see on tv or behind their backs, she still doesn't eat well and is like a splinter she says she forgets to eat hmm

Jingleallthejay Fri 21-Dec-12 17:18:53

oh and im not over weight i just eat when im hungry and if i want crisps i will have them <shrug>

TalkinPeace2 Fri 21-Dec-12 17:19:58

A pang of hunger will pass.
Unless you have no fat on you at all your body can call on other reserves for an hour or three till the next planned meal.
Jingle agreed, there are people who are too thin and clearly do not eat enough, but not many of them compared to the numbers who "wonder" how they put on weight over Christmas.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune Fri 21-Dec-12 17:20:29

Listening to adverts, not their bodies?

Nope, they are listening to their bodies and their bodies say "hey look, food, that'll be tasty and full of useful calories" because your body is stupid and doesn't know that there are plenty more calories where those came from.

SantyClaws Fri 21-Dec-12 17:20:42

not eating when you are hungry and skipping meals is the fast track to a stomach ulcer

^ so said by doctor who fixed DH burst stomach ulcer after months of skipping breakfast and lunch before he had me to look after him

My hunger pangs are my bodies way of telling me I should order Dominios tonight...,

Dh at work dd in bed shortly it would be rude not too.

grin

TeeElfOnTeeShelf Fri 21-Dec-12 17:21:43

No, it's not. Talk to a nutritionist some time.

If you don't answer your body's signals, and hunger is a signal, then you will get ill. You won't lose weight. You might even gain it as your body will grab onto any calorie you give it to make up for ignoring it's signals.

Just as pain should never be ignored, neither should hungry.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune Fri 21-Dec-12 17:21:50

"You don't have to eat all the Quality Street just because they are there" is a perfectly reasonable thing to say, unfortunately you seem to have gone about it badly.

mmmm pizza

MirandaWest Fri 21-Dec-12 17:29:44

I am sitting next to a tin of quality street.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune Fri 21-Dec-12 17:30:00

What you are feeling when you look at that tin of Quality Street is probably not hunger pangs

That would be a more reasonable statement

openerofjars Fri 21-Dec-12 17:32:05

Who died and made you Gillian McKeith?

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune Fri 21-Dec-12 17:33:18

I guess Gillian McKeith would ave to die in order for the slot to open up...

openerofjars Fri 21-Dec-12 17:35:33

Well yes, of course, but it sounded better in my head...

Fuck it, cake time.

MrsHoarder Fri 21-Dec-12 17:37:21

Chocolate cravings should possibly be ignored, hunger pangs when not being exposed to food via advertising shouldn't be.

Jingleallthejay Fri 21-Dec-12 17:37:40

did gillian Mckeith die grin

Tbh people who obsess about diets and food really get on my wick I know somebody who regularly goes on some sort of soup diet she is my height and weight, <shrug> food is to be enjoyed it is not torture , I am sick and tired of trying to get my mother to eat something she is frail and has stick legs and aching joints she is 61 but of course she is frail and un healthy , I grew up with diet bread in the house and bloody laxatives and slim fast although we were fed and fed well watching your mother fuss over food and diet is soul destroying,

sorry that ended up a rant

TeeElfOnTeeShelf Fri 21-Dec-12 17:40:36

I think we have close to the same mother Jay. I finally snapped at her when she started going on and on about how much my son was eating. My very tall, thin as a string bean son.

Hours after he'd had lunch (we'd gone to KFC as a treat) she turned to my step father and said 'You will not believe what this child ate at lunch!'

At which point I snapped 'Will you stop? I will not let you do to him what you did to me!'

Her mouth literally closed with a snap.

Jingleallthejay Fri 21-Dec-12 17:44:06

tee good for you there is no need for people to not eat and go on about what others do, my sister gets it from my mum she still lives at home and she says are you going to eat ALL that, we took mum for lunch yesterday and she did eat and says she enjoyed it , she had eaten the night before she lives off fags and coffee, she always puts on weight when she goes on holiday and comes back looking great but soon loses it again sad
