This thread continues from the "Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!" thread, started by the amazing RatherBeOnThePiste, who has reached goal weight.
Come & join in, no matter what version of low carb you're doing. We have a lovely, supportive group here.
Awwwww....
Marking my place, because I still need to be here!
<--- slim gin obv. Cheers!
and old thread for reference is here
Hello. I've been waiting for you guys to start a new thread because the old one was just so big and intimidating. I'm low carbing as a way to cut out most of the calories from a meal without losing any of the nice stuff so I'm not aiming for ketosis which means I can have the odd carby thing if I deem it to be worth it. The last couple of weeks I've been eating just protein during the day and having a low carb dinner. I've lost 8 pounds in those two weeks after already losing 20 in the previous 7 weeks which I think is a bit too much so I'm going to go back to eating veg with lunch and eating some berries for a few weeks and go back to just protein during the day when I plateau.
Hi all, and hello QueenStromba.
Hopefully by the time this thread finishes I will be considerably thinner.
And you will be Kinky, but stay on the thread - tis the key to success!!

You don't get rid of me by starting a new thread that easily!!!!
Sat eating a mixed veg, garlic and herb omelette while DD's have pizza and garlic bread.Trying to join in and show willing in the lead up to getting my nose stuck into Dr Atkins.
Thanks Pistey - hopefully I may have something to report next Friday.....
Quick question if anyone can help so I know before I read up.
Are beans and pulses allowed?
Vegetable soup?
Thanks in advance!
no beans & pulses I'm afraid
You can make a vegetable soup out of allowed veg, using Xanthan Gum to thicken.
New thread, so I'll post the allowed food link again:
Atkins_Allowed_Foods
Evening Kinky, Stromba & any lurkers, come & let us know how you're getting on.
would love to join you. I am on Dukan and I could really do with some support to keep going ready for xmas!!
start weigh 12 st 7
weight now 11 st 3
Goal - 10 st 8
I have had a booze free November and am thinking I can introduce gin and slimline in about 12 days and counting!!!!
Thanks for the link kotinka. That's brilliant!
Hi,*Wentworth*.Have wondered what Dukan entails....
I've been lurking on the other thread but never posted.
Started low-carbing at the beginning of the school term (Sept 5th I think!) and I've so far lost 16lbs (Started at 14st 2 now 12st 13 so is that 16 or 17lbs??). I've had weeks where the weight has stalled and the loss has been much slower this time. I did it for the first time around 7 years ago and lost nearly 4 stone in around 6 months but 2 babies later and all but half a stone had gone back on.
I'm getting a bit bored with the food now and it is a pain having to cook at least 2 and sometimes 3 (fussy 5 year old) meals every day. I was really craving a glass of Ribena this evening too - but luckily we didn't have any!
I'd love to join too. I'm hoping it will help keep me going when I feel like giving up. Wentworth, I've just started Dukan.
start weight 12 st 9
weight now 12 st 2
goal is 10 st 9
Seems like forever to goal!
Welcome, newbies!
Brilliant loss, mejon.
If you're craving Ribena, I can recommend Sainsbury's No Added Sugar Cranberry juice, or Cranberry and Raspberry juice. I can't remember how many carbs, but it's pretty low.
Will see if I can find a link, hang on ...
here you are
I know it's not completely carb-free, but it should hit the spot, so to speak! And it's also very nice with vodka
I have stopped myself feeling hungry by reading some of the old thread and starting to compile a shopping list.
Was it decided swede was OK or not?
Also on my list:
celeriac
curry powder
EGGS
turnip
unsweetened soya milk
decaf
fish
meat
Can't be too strict yet and shopping won't be till 2nd part of next week so will have to do my best on what I have.I have devoured a tin of tuna tonight and feel guilty as it was the last tin and DD loves it!
I've decided my goal loss will be set at 30lbs.
Hello to everyone!
Countess, I had swede chips & went out of ketosis, but only for a few hours. I think they're ok in small amounts, the roasting seemed to sweeten them up.
On my shopping list I always have:
Green & blacks cocoa powder
Lindt 90% chocolate
Meridian Almond Butter
Tinned Coconut Milk
Brie
Celery
Tinned Salmon
and coffee - what would I do without coffee?!
Morning all
Prize giving for DD last night, and took her out for dinner first to celebrate, so I am out of ketosis for sure, Back on the straight and narrow though now.
I thought Custy had a prob with swede?
I'm not sure but celeriac chips are proper nice, I do them with madras powder and chilli. I think I may have to make them today!
Please note that doesn't say Custy had a problem with A Swede........
<arf>

bloody hell, you were up early for a saturday!
Postman got me up but I forgive him, I now have vitamins! No more cramp.
At my mum's for the weekend. Please hold my virtual hand. This is the house where there isn't just a tin of biscuits, or a tin of chocolate, there is a cupboard of chocolate and biscuits. Follow that with my nephew's first birthday party tomorrow complete with party food.
<deep breaths>
Thanks for the cranberry juice drink tip BIWI. I'll have a look next time I'm near a Sainsburys. Unfortunately I live miles from the nearest one - we've only got a Morrisons here but I'll see what they've got too.
I've been having boiled and mashed swede recently and have got quite a tase for it. I think it's pretty low in carbs if it is boiled. I was having a couple of pieces roasted on a Sunday instead of roast potatoes but they were quite sweet (though lovely!) and along with the roast celeriac chunks I just couldn't manage it all so the swede went by the wayside.
Good luck with trying to resist all those chocolatey-biscuity-cakey temptations Kinky!
The carb counter on the low carb forum www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/ gives swede as 2.3g of carbs per 100g.
It is low, but I guess as it is a fairly dense veg you could end up eating a fair amount of carbs in a portion.
No change for me today - which I am pleased about as I did treat myself to some wine last night.
Yesterday:
B - 2 boiled eggs
L - the insides of various sandwiches! I didn't have time in between interviews to go home or go and buy something, so I had the ham from 3, the beef from 3, a bit of cheese, some celery, peppers and cucumber from the crudites dish, with a bit of hummous on the celery
D - Friday night is usually take-away night, which can present a bit of a problem, but I had chicken tikka, a spoonful of chicken naga (as I have no idea how carby that is), spinach bhaji and mushroom bhaji.
I was very late home from work so was able to avoid going out with DH's boozy friends. Although I evidently missed out on a good evening, it also meant I didn't put temptation in my path as I doubt I'd have been able to resist it.
I'm pleased that yesterday didn't affect my weight loss. And to be honest, I wasn't expecting to be able to sustain the rate of loss I have enjoyed this week.
Not sure what we're doing/eating this weekend, but I aim to continue CPP2 (weekend version*) until Monday.
*may include alcohol
Hi, trying to low carb and wondering how you know if you are in or out of ketosis? Thanks
