Confused, sometimes it takes a long time for the hcg levels (the ones that turn a pregnancy test positive) to go down after a miscarriage. How many weeks are/were you? If it is very early then it is possible that they wouldn't pick up a heartbeat anyway, but I wouldn't have thought they would have told you you had lost the baby unless they were sure.

how awful for you to be in this situation

about 7 weeks, they picked up a hb at 6 weeks though

So, what is supposed to be happening next? Did they sya you should wait to miscarry naturally, having an ERPC, or having another scan?? Or did they think you'd already had a complete m/c when they scanned you? (sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to see what follow-up you are having, if any).

Confused, you need to be seen again by someone. I would suggest EPU but have no experience of this - you may need to go through your GP to get an appointment (?) - someone else can advise you on this.

But - sorry to be blunt - you are either still pregnant, or have a missed miscarriage, and either way you need support/advice and/or help at this point.

I think if you call your EPU they will be able to tell you if you can go direct to them or if you need to go through your GP.

A missed miscarriage is when there is no longer a heartbeat but you have not passed all the products - sorry to be so blunt!

I've c&p'd this from the bupa website: "Missed miscarriage describes a pregnancy that stopped growing some weeks ago, but there was no bleeding at that time. This type of miscarriage usually causes a small amount of dark-brown blood loss and the sudden end of normal pregnancy symptoms but there may be no symptoms at all, coming to light only at a routine scan. It is sometimes called a blighted ovum.
Treatment options

If a miscarriage is complete then you don't need any further treatment. For a missed miscarriage or when there is significant bleeding, treatment with medicines or surgery may be recommended to remove the remaining pregnancy tissue. Some women may prefer to let nature take its course, which is called expectant management."

ito epu opening hours, they vary (as someone who's spent too much time in a couple of them) - but might well say on the hospital website?

Confused from the other point of view, there was a thread not too long ago from someone who had gone for an early scan (I think it was around 6 weeks) and was told there was no heartbeat. They then had a scan done privately and everything was fine - it was purely that the private scan used better equipment than NHS

I'm not trying to get your hopes up but I think that you def need to arrange another scan.

Did they give you anymore info? did thay tell you what was or wasn't there or just that they couldn't find a heartbeat? I'd be really p'd off that they just told you that and sent you home with no more info.

Yes, I agree with the others - I think you need another scan to be sure.

Ok this is the one I was originally thinking of. She was told there was no foetus - not just a heartbeat, but shows even moreso how the scans can differ.
