I'm sorry for your loss Well.

I did my dads and I'm so, so glad I did.

I practised it many, many times beforehand so that I knew where the trigger points were. When I wrote it I tried to make sure that every bit where I was struggling was followed by a light-hearted story or a joke. That gave me breathing space.

I had someone standing by to step in and read it for me if I couldn't get through it.

I did a lot of pausing whilst I choked down the tears. At those points I concentrated on breathing.

I didn't just use prompt cards, I wrote out the whole thing so that if someone had to step in they would still say what i wanted them to.

You'll be fine. Even though it will be hard you'll get through and you'll be glad you did.

So sorry for your loss

My 2 sisters and I all read at our mum's funeral. They both cried, I didn't. It didn't detract from what was being said. I'm not sure how I didn't, I think I detached from the situation and just spoke as I would addressing any larger group of people. As with Myrna I also wrote it all out though, so it was there if I couldn't do it.
