Bereavement

Finding the right words for a card- advice please

My friends have just had to make the awful decision to terminate their pregnancy due to health issues with the baby.

I've got them a card but I'm struggling with what to write. Sorry for your loss sounds as though I'm minimising what they're going through IYSWIM and I don't want to inadvertently upset them.

I know sending a card won't ease their pain but I want them to know that I'm thinking of them. I just don't know what to write.

my friend passed away today. I know it's not the same, but finding the right words is hard.

I would have thought that a very short handwritten note, not a bereavement card to let them know you are thinking of their loss and letting them know you will be there if there is anything they need would be appropriate. sometimes trying to fill that void just isn't appropriate but letting someone know you love and care for them is.

not acknowledging it would be far worse.

so sad for your friends, it's a truly tough decision one I expect they would. it have taken lightly.

Sympathies to you both in your respective situations Sad

I would keep it brief, sometimes you don't need to say much.

'I am thinking of you (both) and sending all my/our love.'
would be my sentiment. You can easily follow it up with a short phone call after a few days have passed.

Above all saying something, anything, rather than nothing, is what counts.
