Bad Drs Advice?

When I went to A&E with bleeding the night before my miscarriage, the dr told me that the signs were good because my pregnancy test still showed positive. I asked if a test showed +ve even if baby had died and she said that could happen but for v. short time.
6 days post m/c, I still show +ve on pregnancy test... from all the info I've read on MN this can last for 6+ weeks... was the dr talking b**cks?

poor you, yes a preg test can remain positive for several weeks after a miscarriage... an a&e doc told me this when they suspected I was ectopic. hope you're okay.xx

IMO, yes. I showed positive for good while after all other pg symptoms had stopped. Had m/c at 12 weeks by dates but 10 weeks by baby size. At 12 weeks (when I started bleeding) I did a pg test and it showed very positive.
Basically, I think my body was still trying to maintain a pregnancy for a while before it worked out the baby had died and so kept producing the hormones. I had a scan 2 weeks after my m/c and there was still a signicant blood flow in my uterus - so needed a d&c in the end anyway (despite having a full on natural m/c). A blood test showed I was still producing pg hormones.

Yes, she was talking crap. Sorry. Some women do find that their levels drop very quickly but AFAIK a couple of weeks is more normal unless the pregnancy was at a very early stage.
