His family live at the other end of the country. His mother died from cancer last week. He is staying on with his dad to look after him and deal with all the arrangments.

In the meantime I feel a bit helpless. I am at home with the kids. He phones rarely, hasn't spoken to the kids in days and I'm wondering when he plans to return home. Obviously I can't hurry him. I'm just not sure what to say and how to help. I've suggested he bring his dad to stay with us, but he's just not registering anything...

Sorry for your DH and your family.

I suppose what he needs at the moment is stability at home, knowing he's got nothing to worry about with your and your DC. And that you're on the end of the phone if he wants to talk.

I'd follow his lead, and try not to take his detachment personally - easier said than done. Smile

Nice you've invited his Dad.
