I wanted to write a small poem in a card for my cousin following the sad, sad death of her baby son. Does anyone one have any suggestions. Many thanks.

In all honesty I don't think a poem would mean as much as your words, the cards I have that mean the most are the ones from people who just simply say how sorry they are or shared a memory of my son or from when I was pregnant with my daughter.

I usually write a poem on birthdays or angelversaries for friends who have lost children.

there is a great thread on a memorial site here with lots and lots of poems on it, there are religious and non religious ones so if you do want a poem you should be able to find one that is suitable on there.

Time spent with you
Was so very precious
Even if only for a very short time
I hold a special memory
Close inside this heart of mine
To me you were very special
Much more than words can say
I still love you now little angel
And I'll remember you every day.

This Is a longer poem, but I received it when my baby boy died in September, and I also sent it to my cousin who's baby boy died at Christmas.

A mother has a baby This we know is true. But, God, can you be a mother when your baby is not with you?

Yes, you can He replied, With confidence in His voice. I give many women babies When they leave is not their choice.

Some I send for a lifetime, And others just for a day. And some I send to feel your womb, But there's no need to stay.

I just don't understand this God, I want my baby here. He took a breath and cleared His throat And then I saw a tear.

I wish I could show you What your child is doing today. If you could see your child smile With other children and say:

"We go to earth to learn our lessons Of love and life and fear. My mommy loved me oh so much I got to come straight here.

I feel so lucky to have a mom Who has so much love for me. I learned my lessons very quickly, My mommy set me free.

I miss my mommy Oh so much, But I visit every day. When she goes to sleep On her pillow is where I lay.

I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek And I whisper in her ear. Mommy don't be sad today, I'm your baby and I'm here."

So, you see my dear sweet one, Your children are not blue. Your babies are here in MY home, They'll be at Heaven's gate waiting for you.

So now you see what makes a mother, It's the feeling in your heart. It's the love you had so much of, Right from the very start.

Though some on earth may not realize, Until their time is done. They'll be up here with Me one day, And they'll know you were the best one!

I like this one as it says although your baby is no longer with you, you are always going to be his mum x

i think I'd be totally honest and write in the card that you have no idea what to say at this horrible sad time but that you are thinking of her a lot. say you know how loved he was and how lucky to have her as his mum and finish off by saying that if she wants/needs anything she only has to ask.
