shufflebum Mon 03-Jan-11 22:20:50

chimchar Mon 03-Jan-11 22:21:01

I'm so so sorry about your baby boy.

The immediate song that I think of is tears in heaven by Eric Clapton.

There are lots of ladies here who have been where you are and will hold your hand through the dark days. X

SixtyFootDoll Mon 03-Jan-11 22:21:06

So sorry, think the snowman music is lovely, in fact when I was watching it at Xmas made me fill up as it struck me then it would be such moving song to be played at a funeral.

crystalglasses Mon 03-Jan-11 22:22:20

Eric Clapton's 'Tears in heaven' is a lovely song. He composed it for his young son who died in a tragic accident. Have a listen on utube.

oh - just noticed nigglewiggle has also suggested it

BikeRunSki Mon 03-Jan-11 22:23:17

I am so very sorry for your loss.

A couple of years ago, I went to the funeral of my friend's baby who was 2 days old when he died. The music included a song that had been a big hit that summer which had been on the radio a lot when his mum and dad had been painting his nursery. Are there any songs that remind you of your pregnancy with him?

shufflebum Mon 03-Jan-11 22:24:43

Lullabye (Goodnight my angel) Billy Joel
Beautiful Boy - John Lennon

and would second Tears in Heaven, such an emotional song.

Marjoriew Mon 03-Jan-11 22:27:10

Do not stand at my graveside and weep by Katherine Jenkins - a lovely song.
So sorry for your loss, OP.

knottyhair Mon 03-Jan-11 22:27:42

So so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy. I can't imagine what you must be going through but I know I've seen other people mention the bereaved parents thread on here, and they could be a real support to you if you wanted to go on there. They may also have some ideas for songs to add the ones already given here. My best friends' baby girl died shortly after birth 5 years ago, and they had Damien Rice "Blower's Daughter" but obviously you might not like this given that you gave birth to a little boy. Thinking of you tonight.

NonnoMum Mon 03-Jan-11 22:29:06

Thinking of you.
Hope you give your beautiful boy a beautiful funeral.

CuddlyNotFat Mon 03-Jan-11 22:29:58

Maybe something that you're not likely to hear too often or when you're out & about. I went to my brother's best friend's funeral and they played a couple of songs that have since caught me out of the blue in a shop or at someone's house and it's quite hard to not get upset.

Just a thought. Do take care of yourself. x

BikeRunSki Mon 03-Jan-11 22:30:16

John Lennon - Beautiful Boy

Sorry to hear about your baby. How about some lullabies, sorry if spelling is incorrect for that.

Casseopeia Mon 03-Jan-11 23:00:30

Nina Simone, Who Knows Where The Time Goes:

"Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it's time for them to go?
...
Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving
Ah, but then you know it's time for them to go
But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving
I do not count the time
For who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?

And I am not alone while my love is near me
I know it will be so until it's time to go
So come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again I have no fear of time
For who knows how my love grows?
And who knows where the time goes"

My deepest sympathies.

I once heard someone say that if you are from the North of England then "brass band music is like stroking your soul". I am from London but adopted the north more than half my life ago and can only agree.

How about " That'll do (A Strong and Steady Hear)" by Peter Gabriel and the Black Dyke Band. I could not find the vocal version when I looked to download it, but the instrumental (brass) is gorgeous, and I think you might some meaning in the lyrics.

It is very personal to you. I can appreciate a little of what you are going through as a very good friend of mine had to organise her 2 day old son's funeral.

AxisofEvil Tue 04-Jan-11 20:54:40

I'm so sorry. I would suggest

To where you are - Josh Grogan

Sean Lullaby - Eric Whiteacre

Elgar Cello Concerto

lottiejenkins Wed 05-Jan-11 08:25:13

I don't know if anyone has already said this, but be careful of choosing any songs that you will hear a lot, for obvious reasons. The last thing you want is for the song to become really popular again and make you cry in every shop, also reserving a less well-known song will make remembering more special (if that makes sense?)

We had a funeral at the crematorium and a memorial / thanksgiving (for DTD2 who lived) in a church. The music we chose was:

Pleasure and pain, Ben Harper
Hymns: Amazing Grace, Give me joy in my heart, Colours of Day.

I hope it goes well, my thoughts are with you. xxx

lulalullabye Sat 08-Jan-11 15:48:22

There is a song by the Dixie Chicks which is perfect I think. They are a country group but the song is beautiful. It is about a little boy so perfect. It is called Godspeed (Sweet Dreams). Have a look at the lyrics and most important have a listen.

lulalullabye Sat 08-Jan-11 15:49:54

Just realised that Godspeed has been said already smile.

Haribojoe Sun 09-Jan-11 18:49:20

So sorry for your loss.

Wonderful world - Louis Armstrong

Baby Mine - Bette Middler

goingmadinthecountry Tue 11-Jan-11 22:39:14

So sorry for your loss.

My DTD died 15 years ago now aged 23 hours. She stayed alive in the womb despite a heart problem and that means we have our (usually) gorgeous dd2. We had the slow movement from Bach Double violin concerto at her funeral, also the Remember Me poem. Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle always gets to me. Also Helen Reddy - If I ever had to say goodbye to you.

With best wishes.

Sazisi Tue 11-Jan-11 22:51:21

I'm so sorry.

By Your Side by Sade might be a good choice.

Best wishes xx

I'm so sorry for the loss of your Baby.
I'm really choked here, but there are a couple of songs that came to me that you may like.

Never Grow Old

This is a lovely version, but the wording isn't so clear...

Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring

This is the same song, but you can read the words here and get a better idea.

I wish you and your family peace.

Thinking of you x

chipmonkey Fri 06-Jan-12 12:20:31

sleeppeacefully I don't have any other suggestions other than the lovely music already suggested here but wanted you to know you are not alone. Please join us on this thread if you want to talk to other bereaved Mums.

I am so sorry to hear about your baby boy. It seems so impossible, doesn't it? My Mia died in October, and I still find it difficult to comprehend.

We didn't have religious songs at the celebration of her life, but instead chose very gentle versions of modern music we liked :-

Angel - by Jack Johnston
Sweet Child O Mine - Taken by Trees, not the original metal version(!)
Just the Way You are - Mina Karllson (lovely version of the Bruno Mars song)

I am sure you will choose something perfect to demonstrate your love for him.

Do join us on the bereaved mothers thread if you think it might help. I find the ladies there a huge support. I just wish none of us needed to be there at all.

2old2beamum Fri 06-Jan-12 22:27:02

Agre with bikerunski We had Beautiful Boy at our precious son's funeral. It reduced the mourners in floods tears but we knew it was right. My thoughts are with you and love.

I'm so sorry to hear about your precious boy. Please can I echo Chip and Miasmummy - do come over to the bereaved mothers thread when you feel ready. They have been an incredible support since I lost my dd shortly after she was born in August xx

For my dd's funeral we had Baby Mine but the version from Dumbo rather than Bette Midler. We also had some reflection music called 'Into Dust' by Mazzy Star. It's a beautiful reflective piece.

Wishing you strength and sending you love xx

SO many lovely, songs for your lovely boy, my heart goes out to you.

chickydoo Fri 06-Jan-12 22:53:09

No suggestions but lots of love. Bless you, and may you keep strong at the celebration of your baby. He will be forever young.

So sorry xxx
My darling beautiful daughter , Georgie, was stillborn at 41 weeks on 10/10/10. At her cremation we had " somewhere over the rainbow" by Eva Cassidy & "Somewhere" from Les Mis. Both still make me incredibly sad , particularly when I m caught off guard & hear them randomly.
Take care xxxxx
