Yes. She'll crawl when she's ready but probably after she's sitting up on her own a while - she needs to be able to hold her entire back up to crawl.

My ds is 10 and a half months and not crawling yet!! He shuffles backwards a lot though but can't get onto his knees yet to go forwards. I don't mind, it means I can still leave in in a room to go to the loo without worrying

She might never crawl - DS1 cruised furniture from 11 months (but had to be 'stood up' or he coldn't get up on his own) and walked at 17 1/2 months - but NEVER crawled.

Hmm. Don't think there's much you can do to get her to 'move'. It's not s/thing that can really be taught or forced. Some babies 'commando crawl' - make swimming motions towards objects - before the properly crawl. Our dd did that. She didn't rock, she just crawled. But she was 12 months when she did that.

i want her to get moving but i love the way she is dependant on me..... but i think her being so dependant is gonna be harder if im pg - dunno - maybe im wrong!

jessica - even one's she's moving she'll still be very dependent on you - so don't think it'll be easier!

DD only briefly crawled, from 8.5 months until she walked 6 weeks later. She just wasted interested in crawling at all, prefering to be on her feet.

ds sat at 6 months, crawled at 9 and walked at 12.....

dont wish it away - you will regret wanting her to crawl

Dd never crawled. She also always hated being on her tummy. She sat up really well at 6 months, was standing and cruising by 8 months, walking holding our hands at 9 months and walking solo at 11 months.

If she is going to crawl, it will probably start with her leaning forward from sitting to reach things. Then they go through a stage when they are in the crawling position but just rock back and forth going nowhere. Then they try to push and end up going backwards (can be very frustrating!) Then crawling forwards starts. Once it starts, lock up your valuables as nothing will be safe, especially if she has also learnt to pull herself to standing!

FWIW ds1 was sitting by 6 months and crawling by about 8 and a half and walking by 11 months. All my other children were a bit slower than that. The youngest was crawling by about 11 months.

Gawd.....ds is one and shows no interest in crawling, hates being on his tum. SHuffles a little....will pull himself to standing occasionally. Will not roll. will not even attempt to walk aided (just lifts his feet off the ground).

He is very laid back tho

just hopeing he learns to move to the toy he wants himself before no 2 arrives in 6 months!!

DD is 12.5 months and doesn't crawl ... she has been a speedy bumshuffler tho' since she was 10 months.
If I remember correctly DS' crawling progress started with being able to get from on his tummy to his hands and knees, then rocking, then moving backwards, then moving forwards .... then actually crawling ... this process took a couple of months, he was crawling at 10 months.
He never rolled though, until he could crawl.
DD can roll, but she hates being on her tummy so she avoids doing it. I don't believe she will crawl as she has her hands free as a bumshuffler ....
Jessica'smummy .... I think if I was pregnant I would be happier with a 'stationary' baby as then I didn't have to knacker myself out running after her!!!!

Agree with ghosty's last comment. It is only when your dd can walk pretty comfidently that you will get a break from having to carry her everywhere (and even then, you will still be running after her!)

dd crawled the night before her 1st birthday. Quite happily bum shuffled up until then.

Enjoy the lack of mobility while you can...

Ds crawled at 6 months and I haven't a minute's peace since.

It would be nice to rest a bit if you are pg not be forever jumping up & down after her!

She will do it soon anyway so just sit down with a cuppa before you have someone trying to forever grab it off you

Could be anything up to a year (or more), so just chill and enjoy her staying in the same place for more than 2 seconds. Later the better if you are pg as chasing a crawling baby around and relocating them is very tiring, which you probably don't want in the first trimester.

My son (now nearly 15 months) started to walk, holding my finger, around 12 months - then walked unaided at 13 months and then crawled at 14 months! Sometimes you just can't predict a child's development!

My ds didn't crawl until he learned to walk! And according to my Mum I never crawled either.

My dd is 7mths too and she looks SOOOOO close to crawling, so she might. But then again she might just get up on her feet and walk at 9mths. Kids are so wonderfully individual.

I think 7 months is quite young to crawl. The first baby to crawl in my local playgroup was 7 months. My own baby crawled at 9 and a half months: most of my friends babies crawled between 8-10 months. Mind you, these were all first babies. I think sometimes second and third children pick up these skills earlier. I was talking to a guy today who said his third son, age 8 months, already walks! Sounds nightmarish if you ask me - an eight month old on two legs with no common sense and no language would be pretty hard to supervise.

Hi, new to website.
My little girls 11 1/2 months. Im feeling a little concerned about her development as she isnt crawling yet. She gets on to all fours then rocks back and fourth but thats it. She doesnt bum shuffle either, she gets herself about by rolling everywhere. I tend to look at other babys her age and they seems so much further on than her. This then makes me worry that im doing something wrong.

cocacola I bet your dd has far better language and puzzle solving skills than my dd who has been cruising since 6mths. Sometimes they just focus on one thing and for mine it has been moving, for others it is the other half of the development.
I'm sure you aren't doing anything wrong.
