Thumb-sucking

How to stop a 4-yr-old sucking his thumb? 8-yr-old DD has only just stopped sucking her thumb at night after being told by dentist it was damaging her teeth! (She apparently has something called an 'open bite' which will need correcting when she's about 11 - I feel awful about it). Am now really worried same will happen to DS - he only sucks his when he is tired and at bedtime, but objects when I suggest he stop. Any tips/advice, please?

my DD is 4 in June & constantly sucks her thumb

I did start a thread recently and I think the general view was to just let her be.

Am hoping that in Sept when she starts school, peer pressure will stop her at least sucking during the day.

woops, looked for a similar thread but didn't find yours - will look again. My ds starts school Sept too and you're right that will hopefully be a turning point.

School didn't stop DS1 (now 9 and I still find him with his thumb in occasionally) and he's now 12 months into £4000 worth of dental treatment to correct the damage to teeth and jaws.
