dd (2.1) says no to everything even when she means yes.

I know:
it's partly a product of hearing me/daddy/cm saying no to her.
she might find it more difficult to say the word yes.
she's starting to be a little person and this is possibly a way of her asserting herself (or trying to)

but:
I find it a bit depressing.

I am trying to say yes lots more than usual and am encouraging her to say yes but it's not working so far.

Any tips?

Sadly I think you maybe right about it being down to her asserting herself. Its really very common for children at that age to say no to everything - my 2 certainly went through a phase of it. Sounds like you are doing all the right things so just keep at it( and try to keep smiling)

Wow really, i thought it was just my Ds. He is 2 next week and he cannot say Yes, even when he wants to.

Very ocasionally he will look at me for ages and then very very slowly try to nod his head, but he cannort say the word yes at all, and everything you ask him is met with NO NO NO No.

He just doesen't seem to be able to say Yes.

feel better already.

i think i've been secretly beating myself up that it's all down to the way I talk to her so it is very reassuring to know that it's not just me.

we did go through a couple of weeks when she said yes occasionally (when prompted), but as she's becoming more assertive, that's gone out of the window.

so I'll just be patient and keep going!

My dd went thru this stage a few months ago, but i promise, its just a phase.

Now she answers yes to everything (even when she doesn't mean it!)

Do you want milk or water? Yes.

And you can ask her a question that you know the answer is no, but she will still say yes.

Like did you go to Barbados today? Yes

They're just practising bless them!
