Is this normal???

My ds1 is 11 in May and has started getting really moody, has the attitude of a 15 yr old and is generally becoming a bt of a pain, although we do have days where he goes back to being the lovely son im used to. A friend said it sounds like puberty setting in, as her son had been the same.

What is worrying me though is the size of his chest. He isnt a chubby lad and is very active but for the past 6 months or so he has seemed to be growing breasts. At first I put it down to his age and the fact he had put on a bit of weight around the tummy. Now though im not so sure, he has lost the tummy but his breasts still seem to be growing. It has got to the point where they notice through his tops and he is even bigger than his 'girl' friend. Is this a normal development and down to puberty setting in or is it something else.

I dont want to make an issue of it with him and therefore dont want to drag him to the dr;s if it entirely normal but then again i dont want to leave it if it could be anything else. At the moment he jokes about them but im sure its just an act.

Any advice or experiences greatly appreciated

I think I would try to get a 'second opinion' without actually going to the drs just yet. Is there a school nurse who could have a discrete look under the guise of a general health check? Or do you have any friends who are nurses you could discuss it with?
If that isn't possible, then I think a trip to the doctors would set your mind at rest - and your ds who may be secretly concerned.
