I think a bucket, a spade and a watering can will be quite enough.

Ball definatly. we live by the sea side and I have a bag with ball, buckets, spades, tiny kite, plastic cars (99p from ASDA) and stacking cups withi holes in (from M&S).

For a holiday I would just take the ball and cups, as they would be multifunctional.

I have one you can have, we got ours from blooming marvelous. My two have outgrown it, but we used it all the time in the garden, park and beech. I am pale and they are paler

I would also take a mini paddling pool - DS2 had a great time sat in the shade by our recliners playing with toys in a sand free environment. we took stacking cups as well!

Make me an offer - I tried to CAT you, but you need to turn it on.

I love the sea, was born by it, but lived in the home counties for the last 11 years, came home to be near to it and family once we had the children. It is bliss, even on windswept cold winter days

A stick.
ball.
bucket.

spade for parent to fill bucket with.
sandmolds are probadly a bit beyond a 1 yr old. windmill... depends on weather the kid likes them better than a plain stick.

Probably will just eat the sand at that age if my 2 are anything to go by.

We also live at the beach, so have beach toys coming out our ears!
Anything that might float in the water is also a winner (toy cars etc often float, so dual purpose). Remember to put sunscreen on before you hit the beach, to keep sand out of it! Also get a long-sleeved swimsuit- so you don't have to put sunscreen all over a wriggly one year old.
