dd (5) says God touched her in the night...

...absolutely adamant that it wasn't myself or dh giving her a kiss before we went to bed. it was God. dh took her to the book shop today to choose a new book. she came back with a bible.

all very sweet. but a bit weird too! there's not a religious bone between the other 3 members of the household.

what kind of school does she go to?

good question - but - for the moment - not a church school. she'll have to go to church school for juniors though.

on the one hand I expect she's got it off our nanny - she goes to church but she's hardly evangelical. but on the other hand, and in a rather weird way, I think it's always been in her. a neighbour gave her a picture of Mary and Jesus when she was born - which was languishing about the house somewhere or other - and when she found it aged about 3 she started keeping it by her bed.

I find it really quite fascinating.

I was a bit that way myself, the only person in my family with an interest in religion. As an adult, I am a Christian and do go to a prayer group, but I'm not so fanatical I've ever had a problem with getting on with the rest of the family; dh is not a Christian either, and it's not a bone of contention.

I think my family tended to downplay it; they didn't show they thought it creepy, but didn't make a big deal of it either. They allowed me to go to church on my own once I was old enough, and stopped my brothers from teasing me; on the other hand, they wouldn't let my beliefs run anybody else's life (they made me do chores on a Sunday ). I think they got the balance about right.

Dd2 (8) is like this. Last year she told me and my mum that god speaks to her and tells her who is going to heaven and hell

She has always been interested in religion, and likes to read bible stories.

I have no idea where she gets it from as non of our family are in the slightest religious.

cory - I think your parents were absolutely right - and it's how myself and dh will be. but it does make me stop and think a bit - how does someone so young "get" something as big as religion? maybe it's not big when you're that age. maybe it just all makes an awful lot of sense.

I think thats it Hatwoman. It all makes sense in their minds. They dont have the worries and questions us adults do. I thinks its lovely that your little girl is so sure about something in her life... and it's something she can call her own. Im not religious either, but i still think it's nice for her.
