can i come and join in your family meals....sounds gorgeous

My DD is 6.5 months and I've been giving her bits of what we've been eating for a few weeks now. she's getting better at picking things up and feeding herself now as well.

I think the key is watch the salt content, but other than that let then have what you eat.

Aitch's Blog FYI

As I understand it, it's really important to give them what you're eating, even if it's a milder pureed version, as that's what they'll be eating for the next twenty or so years!

mmm, lucky baby! i reckon clafoutis is an ideal weaning food...and don't bother to puree it. at 6 months i think you don't need to introduce one thing a day - they should be able to eat most things.

you're right about honey - no honey until 1 year because of the risk of infant botulism (although according to my mum - a beekeeper- there is only one recorded case in the last 50 years)

and limit salt as much as you can but other seasonings are fine

oooh, if Gordon is there, defo count me in {salivates and drools at the thought of Gordon, never mind the food )

Pine nuts are a seed rather than a nut, but people who are allergic to more than one type of nut can rarely be allergic to pine nuts. If there are allergies in the family, maybe it's best to avoid them?

LOL your DS will be a real foodie at this rate

I've given my DD garlic, herbs and some pork ragout that had chipolte chillies in (albeit a very tiny amount) to no ill effect.

One of the women on my PN thread used to keep bees commercially and she said the same thing; infant botulism is very very rare indeed; which is lucky as my 5 yo DS let DD lick his honey laden finger when she was 4.5 mo!

you just need to be v careful with salt and stockcubes and yeah, honey not recommended before a year or anything peanut-y.
My ds had garlic and herbs from 6mo but do think curry and mustard might have been a bit of a shock to his system..?! but maybe not.
my ds has been eating the same meals as us nearly all the time since he was one and it is sooooo much easier - before that i just batch cooked and froze stuff for him so if we were eating something he couldn't have then he had his own meal ready.

My dd began eating the same food as us at around 9 months. Of course, I modified our meals a little - reduce salt, reduce spice, avoid steaks, for example.

I liked Annabel Karmel's book as it gave you ideas for meals for each age stage - I didn't follow the meal plans but just selecte some recipe and meal or snack ideas that sounded nice.
