Feel free to remind me of this next time I talk about punishments being counter productive and letting them regulate their own food intake

Oh lord is that really true about it being insulting to Irish people? I thought it was an urban myth tbh

no offence meant at all but as you can see I am not exactly paragon of clear thinking atm

he cried, there was some "loud talking" (ie shouting )

can't remember what crap i might have spouted in heat of moment but v similar to above suggestions, yes

oh something about "you can cook your own dinners in future if blah blah blah blah"

ach, it was probably only vegetables and quinoa anyway, who can honestly blame him?

You're Human. Not a never endingly patient, creative, jolly love machine.

If the worst he ever remembers is that you once threw his dinner in the bin and told him off for messing about, you're doing well.

oh no I am frequently dreadful colditz and I agree about 'if that is the worst'

it is such a cliche of disciplinarian parenting though, I thought at least I could find new and original ways in which to get pointlessly cross

OP posts:

Magrat · 17/12/2007 18:40

why do you think you screwed up?

your 4 year old is more than old enough to appreciate that food takes effort and that his actions have consequences

Report
Magrat · 17/12/2007 18:41

if you're serious I think you need to give yourself a break .. you'll bust a blood vessel you will

Report
FrannyandZooey · 17/12/2007 18:43

LOL of course I am serious

throwing someone's dinner in the bin is a shite way to behave, actions shouldn't have completely random, aggressive, punitive consequences

because you made an effort and nobody gave a shit. That's why you got cross, that's why millions of parents get cross at mealtimes.

QWhen I worked in a nursing home I once found the burly ex army chef in TEARS in the staff room because all the residents did was whine about 'tough meat' (meaning they forgot to put their dentures in) and undercooked veg (not decimated yellow mush) and lumpy gravy with green bits (home made gravy, not Bisto). And he was being paid! And he didn't even love them! So it's not surprising - it is soul destroyng.

dicking around refusing to eat food that has been bought for you and prepared for you is a shite way to behave too though surely?

Franny, you are marvellous

Only you could turn an "oh arse, I've fucked up" thread into another opportunity to wave a flag for Alfie Kohn

Seriously, he'll be fine - he knows you're a human being, and he knows you adore him. Even you have to lose patience sometimes (especially when pg and tired!). I have been a miserable mean old fishwife today, if that helps.

((((jingly smooch))))
