Milk - my 13 month old no longer wants it!

She used to drink about 18oz milk a day, 9oz mid morning and 9oz at bedtime. She would happily cuddle up with me whilst I fed her. Now, I have no chance of a cuddle! In the morning I just give her a sippy cup with milk in to drink herself throughout the morning, and at night, will try a bottle but after about 10 seconds, she grabs it out of my hand and throws it on the floor. I'm lucky if she has about 5oz a day. She does have rice pudding, cheese and yogurts, and also milk on her cereal but I'm concerned that she isn't drinking enough. Is anybody else having the same problem?

DSs gave up milk at around the same age - mainly because I started giving it to them in cups rather than bottles, so they lost the 'comfort' part of it. I checked with my HV at the time, and she reassured me that they were getting plenty of milk by other means (as you said, yogurts, milk in cereal, cheese etc) and it was fine. So try not to worry too much, my DCs never drink plain milk even now, they just don't like it but they're strong and healthy

I wouldn't worry too much, if she's having plenty of yoghurt, cheese, etc.

If you are worried, maybe you could give her an extra yoghurt, eg after breakfast or give her milk to drink with her meals?

Or, maybe just drop the milk for a few days and then try and introduce it and see if she's more keen then

from 1 year they only need the equivalent of about 350mls (approx 12oz) of milk so the drink of milk in the morning plus dairy foods and milk with cereals, in foods, etc should make that amount.

Why not try giving a sippy of milk at night too? - thats what I do with my ds - he gets his sippy of milk while I do dd's bedtime story and he wanders about her room drinking it and then finishes it off in his room while getting into his grobag.
