Hi everyone

My son has been diagnosed dyspraxic - he is 8 and has poor concentration and just seems to have tremendous difficulty getting the hang of things - we have to explain simple things over and over and yet he's bright and quick to grasp complicated concepts. The best definition of dyspraxia I've heard is difficulty knowing what to do and how to do it. My son manages not too badly but the concentration and poor organisational skills are a real problem - he's constantly bored because he can't organise himself to have a really good, satisfying play - he gets addicted to computer and play station games so we have to limit them - but then he doesn't know what to do with himself!

Books:

Developmental Dyspraxia by Madeleine Portwood

Useful walkthrough of the basics and lots of ideas.

Worth checking out your local Dyslexia Association as well as there are so many links with Dyspraxia.

Would be interested in people's views about the similarity between all these special needs - ADHD, Aspergers, Dyslexia, Dypraxia - all seem to be different sides of the same coin - and I think the diagnosis you get can depend largely on who you take them to!

i have a 5yr boy. two years ago his nursery said he might have a problem and advised me to see my doctor- still waiting for a dyagnosis! we've seen psychologists have gave me a horrible report that scared the life out of me! psychatrists who think he may have aspergers and the school special needs team who think he may have dyspraxia, any helpful websites would be appreciated!
