10.5 mth old wont be left alone

Over the last week or so my 10.5 month old has decided he hates being left alone. I cant go into another room for even a minute without him breaking his heart. He was always quite happy playing in his pen or cot by himself before. It means that he is back to napping in his pram or bouncy chair by me as he refuses to settle in his cot by himslf. I have tried leaving him for a min then going back reassurring him etc but he is inconsolable by that stage. Any ideas or advice?

Sounds like separation anxiety. It's a very hard phase but basically, they know you have gone but haven't got the concept of "object permanance" yet, i.e. that you will come back. It is short lived but your choices are to let him cry or just ensure you are not out of his sight - hard work either way! The good news is that it doesn't last too long.
