Phew, sports day has been postponed until monday afternoon because of the rain.my ds aged 5 hates them.last year was his first one at school when he was in nursery class, he became so upset he wouldnt even take part and had to be brought over to sit with us by the teacher.no ammount of encouragement seemed to help I think its the crowds of parents that scare him as normally he enjoys sports.sports day the year before at playschool wasnt much better for him either, poor thing.I try not to make a big deal about it,after all its not the end of the world, but its sad to see hes the only child there whos not having a good time.does any one elses have a child who doest want to take part?

I think it's pretty common for children in nursery adn reception (and beyond I guess!) not to want to be under the spotlight. Ds2 doesn't like it. He's got no issue with the actual running but I bet he won't want to run in the race on sports day cos everyone will be watching. Similarly, he hates the games part at parties - he just hates focus of attention - he's quite shy.

Ds1 would never take part in concerts either - once he got to reception he got better but before that he would run off the stage!
