4.5 month old addicted to gripe water

Has anyone else got this problem? I was advised in the early days to dip my ds's dummy in gripe water to help her take it when she was getting "hysterical". Since then I've stuck to this, only using it when she's really crying uncontrollably. However, in the last few day she has now been rejected the dummy completely if it doesn't have gripe water. I have tested this a few times to make sure it isn't something else bothering her, but as soon as she gets the gripe water she calms down! Any advice on how to stop this? Tried going cold turket today but she just screamed for half an hour!

your post made me smile!

I was absolutely OBSESSED with gripe water when I was little - totally addicted to the point where sometimes I would go and swig it from the bottle when my mum was busy with my baby sister.

(she was and is a fab mum by the way and not in the habit of leaving medicine lying around!)

Can't remember what broke my habit - think she must have just stopped buying it or maybe got wise and hid it from me.

Sorry that doesnt help at all, but the memory has made my day!
