tap water.

I have been giving them cooled boiled water and bottled water. They are 1 and 2, and we live in an extremely hard water area. Will tap water upset their stomachs?

I don't see why not. You could always get one of those filter jugs if you're worried about the hard water.

Even though I always gave ds filtered water. I didn't know you are not supposed to, too much carbon. But then on the other hand the tap water tates funny I wouldn't drink it and wouldn't really want ds to have it.

Bottled water has too high a mineral content! Can't win really.....unless of course you put them both straight onto Fruit Shoots

I started giving dd tap water at 6 months. She wouldn't take cooled boiled water at all but as soon as I stopped boiling it she couldn't get enough. We're in the east of Scotland tho' & have soft water here.

Ditto GreebosWhiskers. My dd wouldn't touch boiled water. We live in a soft water area, and she guzzles that all day.

Ok, enough boasting about your lovely soft water

Not allbottled water is too high in minerals. The sodium content is the worst offender and I checked cannot remember where now but I was told if bottled water had a sodium content of less than 20mg per litre (it says on the label) then it was fine.
Most of the known brands have loads less than that but there are a few that are shckingly high.

I can't see the amounts that your children would drink would be excessively high , and their tummies would be fine

I'd give tap water, it's perfectly safe (and cheaper/safer than mineral water). Mineral water is a massive con, if you'd told people 20 years ago we'd be spending millions of pounds on drinking water when it comes out of the tap for free they'd have thought you were barking...

Does tap water in the UK contain flouride? In Aus they are talking about making flouride compulsory in all bottled water as so many kids are being given it and so missing out on the flouride in the tap water and it is causing a huge rise in dental probs.

Depends where you live Sweety...it doesn't here in the Cheshire. My dentist recommended getting the children onto adult toothpaste at 2...and opting for the flouride milk at nursery.
Powder...dd has had tap water since she was 1 and has never had a problem with her tummy

Totally agree about bottled water - not only is it a con it is also really bad for the environment. We are in a very hard water area and DD & I drink it all of the time with no problems. DD prefers water to fruitjuice in fact.

Of course they can have tap water!

On a pedantry tip: mineral water isn't a great idea for kids, but I think bottled spring water is supposed to be OK.

We live in a hard water area and the tap water smells of bleach, but if you put it in the fridge and let it stand for a bit, it's fine.

Look, I know tap water is fine but as mine have not been having it i was asking whether giving it to them now would upset their stomachs because the water is extremely hard in this area.

It wasnt an invitation for conflict
