I'm worried about my little girl, she is a bright little thing of 19 months, she seems to be up to speed on all of her development but her speech. She was a late walker (about 16 months) and never crawled, preferring to bum shuffled (like both her parents! - mum walking at 9 months dad at 18). She started to say words at about a year then stopped at about 15 months, she says about 10 words now but im sure that only i would understand, apart from mumma and dadda yeah and no. I have read that the shuffling and late talking could mean she is dyspraxic. I can't bear to look up the condition in case i frighten myself. She also is pretty much ambidextrous as well. She visited a peadiatrician in January who said she was doing ok and the talking would come but there is still the recommendation for speech therapy. My husband thinks im being paranoid and looking for problems but i just want to do whats best for her and know how to help her the best i can, any thoughts?

Hi there - my ds is 17 months and only says hello - I'm not worried at all. He walked at 10 months so I thought early walker, early talker - but not to be. I think most children are ambidextrous to a point but they have a preferred hand to use.

I thin kyou are worrying far too much - please don't look it up on the 'net as you always get worse case scenario OR should I say you only take in worse case scenario.

HV is sometimes a swearword on here but if you have a good one have you chatted thi through with her?

Are you saying she has had a recommendation for speech therapy already?

I would say that she is doing fine (albeit having no experience of dyspraxia and it symptoms)

after having a VERY chatty DD i was worried about him - unduly it turns out

thanks, i guess you are right, well i know My HV tends to make me worry more, shes very good but over sympathetic like she imagines i have the weight of the world on my shoulder. SALT is coming next week so hopefully will realise im just panicing (again)> I have a friend who didnt utter a word until he was four, and he has just written his phd.
