Some questions about potty training!

DS is 2.7, first day of training (third attempt) and HV not answering phone so can anyone else help with my questions?

How soon should the accidents get less? (First day today, one accident so far, sure we have plenty more to come!) We are staying in today but we are both going stir crazy already - how soon can we start going out and about?

Ok, obviously a boring post compared the the others..... Grin For anyone reading this who is marginally interested, 2 accidents on the first day but all the ones he has done on the potty are because I've put him there - he hasn't said he needs to go at all, it's basically wee on command with him! Does this sound like it's going ok?

Yes. Extend the period between potty times gradually. I think it's important to persevere. Giving up sends the wrong message.
Lots of reward for wees on potty.

Sounds like it's going well. How often are you putting him on the toilet?

You don't need to stay indoors all day either! You can start with going for a little walk and build up to longer trips out as you feel more confident. Later on in the week you could take him somewhere you know had a toilet so he can practise using different toilets.

Don't do what I did and over think it all to the point where you work yourself up into a panic. He will get there. It will all be fine Smile.

I'm putting him on every 30 minutes or so..... Is that too often? We have left the house to do the school run twice and he was fine - he went before we left so no accidents (out of the house for 35 minutes for each school run). He also managed a no.2 on the potty but he wouldn't let me celebrate too much as I had to be quiet unless I woke his plastic penguins who were sleeping.....

How are you getting on with it?

It sounds like he's made a good start Smile.

2 wee accidents yesterday and 2 today, but plenty of wee and a no.2 both days on the potty, so doing ok I think. He still doesn't ask to go - maybe 4 times at the most? He just goes when I plonk him on it! He also asked for a nappy today but when I said no nappies in the day he just said 'ok' and didn't seem bothered. I just think he would rather wee as he goes in his nappy and not make the effort....

That's great! It will probably take him a little while to link the feeling of needing to go with actually using the toilet.

Sounds like it's all going well! Don't worry about him not asking to go, that sometimes doesn't come for a while.

No he still won't ask to go (unless it's bedtime.......Hmm) but what has got better is his ability to hold it until we put him on the potty - when we first started he was sometimes going 15 minutes after the last one. Now he will hold for at least an hour, which is much less stressful for us!

When we potty trained DSS we got all his nappies, split the pile in half and said this pile is daytime nappies and this pile is night time nappies. We got him to throw the pile of daytime nappies in the bin (then got them out again when he wasnt looking, who wants to waste nappies!) Then made a big deal of him being a big boy now and big boys wee in the potty (though we got a baby urinal, they're incredible!!) And had a sticker chart for wees in the potty. When he got 5 stickers for 5 wees he got a prize. He used the toilet like 14 times the first day and got prizes but he got the hint and only had a few accidents. This was our third attempt!
