Using pyjama pants as a nappy

Please help. My (almost) 3 year old is potty trainined during day, no problems. At night she uses pyjama pants (pull ups too small) however she uses it as a nappy and is up all night fussing or wanting to get in my bed. She has not slept through since being potty trained and her sleep is really unsettled and wakes for day at 4:45am. I can't function as she is up all night. When I ask her if she needs a wee in night she shouts no and says she doesn't need one or cries. Is this normal?

I'm not sure what you mean - that she is wetting herself?
In that case I would assume she is not ready to be dry overnight yet (this is related to the production of a hormone and can't be trained) and put her back in nappies.
Good luck!

I'd say she's just not ready to be dry at night yet. I have 4.5 year old twins, one is dry at night and the other is nowhere near.

The problem with the pj pants is they're not really suitable for more than an accident. So if your dd isn't dry at night, she will feel the wetness if she urinates in them which will possibly be the cause of her constant waking.

I'd also be concerned that at not even 3, she's outgrown the sizing for nappies and pull-ups. I've found some are more generous than others but even so, my average sized 4.5 year old can comfortably wear a size 6 Tesco pull-up.

It does take quiet a bit longer to be dry at night for a lot of kids.
Maybe cut any drinks right before bed and have her go to sit on the potty/toilet before sleep.
If she's up at night try to get her to sit on potty again for a wee. She could be holding it in but tired at the same time.
If it's not happening. Then just put her back in nappies for the night. Start again when she's a little older.
Good luck.

Yeah I'm not at all bothered about her being dry at night yet as there's loads of time, but she doesn't want/ask to go for a wee during night but then she can't sleep, I think because her pyjama pant is wet and it's keeping her up. Not sure how to get round this. I would rather her shout me saying she needs a wee rather than being up and crying or waking dead early. When I try to make her go for a wee in night she says she doesn't need one (prob cos she done it in her pyjama pant) she is really tall for her age and I just found that pull ups were just a tad snug so pyjama pants seemed to work better.

I'd try her in the pull ups again, or even in a nappy, they will be more absorbent than the pj pants and so she won't feel wet.

Her being tall shouldn't make the pull ups too tight? My nearly 4 year old is tall and 75th centile weight and is still in size 5+ nappies at night so would be surprised if a nearly 3 year old couldn't wear size 6?

Pampers baby dry nappies and Asda little angels do a 6+ so I'd give them a go. As they're nappies you'd be able to sort the fit a bit better too because of the tapes, plus they should be much more absorbent than the pj pants. They really aren't designed to hold a bladder full of wee.

Yeah I think the prob was I put her in pyjama pants age 3-5 thinking they were same as pull up but more comfy and stretchy for her, but yeah they are not absorbent. She was in 6+ nappies before potty training so I wanted to find equivalent size.

Huggies do night-time pull-ups age 4-7. They are very comfy and hugely absorbent. DC3 (age 5) is still in them. DC1 and DC2 were night-trained at the age of 3, but DC3 clearly needs a lot longer. The pull-up is always sodden in the morning.

All 3 of them were terrible night-wakers at the age of 3, but I don't think it was anything to do with pull-ups, since the first two weren't in them. You might be rationalising and the night-waking is not anything to do with the pull-up.

Good point.... maybe it's nothing to do with wee situation. Maybe I just have a toddler who doesn't sleep (cries) x

Caroline - don't worry, DC3 started sleeping through about 3 months after starting school ...
