Toddler walking weirdly :-/

DS is 16 months and has been walking properly since 11 months. The last few weeks he's been either walking on his tiptoes or walking with bent legs, which looks like he's about to collapse! I'm finding it a bit disconcerting Confused I have googled and one of the top results is that walking on tiptoes is a sign of autism. IMO he doesn't show any other signs of autism except that he is a bit delayed with speech. He only has 1 word but has a lot of signs and is very communicative otherwise.

Anyway, just wondering what could be up and what you'd do, seems overkill to get in touch with a pro!

I don't have much of a clue about anything toddlers, but my 21 month old is recently quite fond of walking on tiptoes too. I just sort of assumed she was doing it because it was new and interesting to her. She doesn't do it all the time; mostly when she's trying to prance about. If she really wants to move she walks normally.

Maybe just wait and see? He might snap out of it.

Possibly worth mentioning to the HV/GP. My DD does this too but I'm not sure whether it's because there's something wrong or if it's because she's a toddler and walking on tiptoes is fun. We've got a podiatrist appointment so they can have a look (referred by the GP).

OK thanks both of you! I think I'll just wait and see what happens.

Mine did it in the winter when the floor started to get cold :)
