bouncers - how early?

hi all, this is my first ever message.
on re-reading i thought it may be a bit long so ive put the question at the start and the reason after incase you get bored.

so here is my main question... i have seen bouncers by fisher price that dont require door frames - jumperoo and hop n pop.

does anyone know how old(ish) babies can go in these as the product description only mentions head control and max weight? (my 12 wk has good head control but cannot sit up unaided yet).also are they any good? (checked product reviews and couldnt find any)

also does anyone elses baby not like sling/carriers?

ds (coming up for 12 wks- 1st baby) is (according to my mum who had 2 kids)is quite active. he has had strong neck contol from very early and for weeks now has been standing and stamping with balance support under his armpits from us. his favourite position is upright and is most easily settled when upset like this. i think he likes to see whats going on all the time. problem is he often wont shut up unless we are verticle too (standing swaying or walking about). since he weighs a stone now it is both really sore on my back and tiring and inconvenient to keep walking about and when hes 'standing' up and stamping on my lap, my arms arent strong enough to go for very long. i really want to get stuff done. he is not stressful in himself - its just the ominous pile of jobs mounting up that i cant tackle thats getting to me. i have tried him in a sling/carrier thing (made by TOMY) that someone gave us, but as yet he just cries in it - think maybe his legs being apart rather than together as when i carry him, may be upsetting. will persevere unless anyone has any tips.

thanks for reading this far if u r still awake lol! x

get a wrap sling or something like the tricotti

baby slings where the baby hangs by its crotch like the tomy and baby bjorn are not very good for babys spine. for this reason baby bouncers are also not recommended.

well, welcome to MN!

No clue on bouncer things as I've never had one - I'd read this which put me off a bit.

The Tomy carriers are much harder on your back (and less good for the baby) than some other slings - something like the Wilkinet or a Hug-a-bub keeps the baby's weight closer to you and more supported on your hips and means the baby doesn't dangle in mid-air quite so much.
There are loads of sling threads around - have a look in Products - but a good place to start is The Babywearer .

i think everything in moderation

I've used a door bouncer with my 2 older childern - they went in it at about 5/6 months - can't remember guidelines but it's when they can support their head properly. It's not like you leave your baby in there for hours at a time - I used to set a timer for 10 min or so, and place a large mirror opposite which amused them

dd3 is 4 months and not really ready for one but I won't have anay probs using it when she is, I think you have to use your common sense too
