1st words- when?

I've tried looking on the net, and found conflicting ages given.

When did your little ones say their 1st word? DS seems close to me, but i'm sure he's too young (6mths 3 wks)

DD2 said, 'buh bye' at 11 months.

She's 13 months now, and has 'buy bye', Mamma and Dada.

DD1, however, just babbled for a long time past that.

Hmmm, according to my nanny ds first said hello at around 9 months.

I think the first word he consistently used and knew what it meant was ma-mma (while running after me around the house) when he was 1.

I have seen a 1-year-old (at her birthday party) who used 5 words very appropriately.

6 months is definitelly very young though.

my first dd was 16 months before she said anything. My second dd was just nine months when she started saying two sords: bye(ans waving) ans mama when she wanted to be picked up.

My DS said dada on Xmas eve! But he's only 5 months so was only copying us doesn't actually know what it means yet, pleased his dad though

My dd could say mama, dada and hiya by 9 months. By 13 months she could sing 'balamory, balamory' she has always been very clear with her words and people used to comment on it. Ds however is now 13 months and he can say Hiya, dada, more and muma and that's about it. They are all different and develop at different times. Ds is very much still a baby at 13 months only taking a few steps and saying a few words whereas dd was was walking and talking and very much a toddler by then.

nothing til 13 mths then he said his name, as clear as a bell. OK it was 2 gutteral noises but he new what he'd said and what it ment

well he's making a definate 'Mmmmm' noise, so i started saying 'Mam' relentlessly, to which he laughed and started blowing raspberries and wandering off. (he's walking about holding furniture already )

DS favourite word is uh oh. He can say bubble and mumma - which seems to mean everything and he is 15 months. He said dadda fist though at about 10 month sbut hasn't said it since.....

My dp apparently didn't utter a word until he was two when all of a sudden he said a huge sentence with big words in it and his mum was in shock. True to form he is still a man of few words but is very intelligent.

DD said her first meaningful words at 6 months, whilst on holiday with family. She got very clear at calling for "maman" and "dadad" when there were lots around, whilst putting her arms up and pointing towards the correct person. I think she felt the need on the holiday. She then gradually added more and more words. Apparantly both me and my sister were early talkers, and my mum was - so thing it must run in the family (well for the girls anyway).

DetentionGrrl - DD was like that with the walking around holding hands and on furniture too. She finally walked on her own entirely at 10 months. Beware though - katz's DD2 walked at 8 months!

DS is 14 months - he says mama, dadda, andy (the dogs name is Candy), shoe, juice, clock (well "cock" but he points to the clock!), key, teddy & bick (for brick).

But he babbles away to himself or to us and "la la la" a lot

My DD talked early - walked late. Never crawled just shuffled around! She was too busy learning words. At 11 months she pointed at a pillow and said 'flower' at the pattern. So I know by then we had started to move towards difficult words.
2 word sentances at 12 months and singing nursery rhymes by herself at 16 months. But as I said wouldn't walk until 16 months and still doesn't really like walking!
She's just 3 now and her favourite word is 'particularly' - however, she doesn't really know what it means so it just appears at random in the middle of a sentance!!

Enjoy listening to them - her speech has given me some of the best laugh ever!

If my grandmother is to be believed, I said 'arbre' (spoke French first) at nine months

dd1 said Dadadada at about nine months, but looking back I think it was babble. DH would probably disagree She did say 'cat' by 12 months, and a very few other words.

She had a lot of words by 16 months, including all her colours, and is an unstoppable chatterbox these days at 3...

My 9mnth dd is just starting to say hello/dada and ds's name. I just know that she is going to be as articulate and chatty as DS (almost 3) who never shuts up. I'm never gonna get a word in edgewise when she really starts. My HV keeps saying "shes very vocal isn't she"
This morning DS told me he was sportacus, I was stephanie and DH was robbie rotten. We had to sing the songs! Oh joy

someone on here's lo said there first word at 6 months. possibly twiglett but i could be wrong on that - its just the name that springs to mind.

ds spoke late

now uses a lot of long words correctly and has very good vocabulary

but more importatly is delight to talk to

ds is 10 months and I think he says no and hello.

DDs didn't speak for ages and when she did went straight for full sentences (her first words were "I'm not sharing")

DD1 spoke very early saying mama dada hiya ta at 6-7 months, 8 months doing animal noises and by 9 months was walking and saying bigger words e.g. picture grandpa. I have very clear memories as we were on holiday at the time. So Elibean your grandma not be exaggerating after all.
There are no rules and they are all different if you think he is speaking with meaning he probably is.

Any age is possible, they all develop so differently, dd said mama at 4.5 months (ive witnesses! ), a week or two later she started saying "da da" and "nana", she was calling "alva" (her aunts name) by 6 months shes now just gone 15 months and says "cat", "shadow",
"oh wow mama!" "boccle"(bottle) "wow wow"(dog), "mama's car", "all gone", "ho ho ho santa" "uh oh", "oh no", "bye bye" "hiya" "hello" (EXTREMELY clearly:"I am going to get you.. tickle tickle" and my personal favorite "i love you"

Oh and if she falls: "oh jaysus mama!"
