Appendectomy in pregnancy, Autism spectrum

I had this op at five months pregnant, wondering if this had an affect on my daughters brain development in the womb. She is 4.5 and has just started school and is being assessed for ASD.

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, or had the operation and have not had any adverse effects. I had heard it is the most common op during pregnancy.

This is my first post which I feel nervous about, and I do not know much about ASD so please forgive any mistakes, thank you

Hello and welcome. I have no idea if the op could have affected your little one's brain development, thankfully I have never had the op. However I have 2 sons with ASD, both were born via planned C-sections after healthy pregnancies (I had already had 2 C-sections). I have no idea what 'caused' their autism and made them the special little boys they are today. For a long time I blamed myself - did I not talk to them enough, socialize them properly, do too much for them, etc, etc, but then I realised they were born with autism. Best wishes xx

Hi there, my mum had appendectomy when 4 months pregnant with my brother but he does not have ASD, hope that helps. Good luck with the school.

I've never heard of such a link. But wouldn't you have died without the operation?

I undersrand you're looking for a explanation but very often there is no explanation for things which happen to us.
