Baby looks like her daddy (lighthearted rant)

Everyone keeps telling me how much DD looks like her daddy. I grew her for goodness sake, surely there must be something of me in there?!?

Do your DCs look like one of you or do you have a real mix? And what about non-physical things, do they take after the partner they resemble in terms of things like laughter, habits etc, or are they totally unique and you wonder where they got THAT from?!

My DS was so like my DH as a baby, that I was able to fool my DMum with picture of my DH at the same age. As he has got older, I can see more of me in him physically, but in terms of behaviour, character etc he is my DH Grin
MY DD is very like me in terms of character etc. Looking back to old photos of her, I can see me in her, but couldn't at the time. She is very like her DS, but I can't really see DH in her which is strange.
Also as they get older, they become more and more their own person, and I think you stop looking for the influences.

It's quite normal for babies to resemble their dads in their first year. Yours may well change as she grows up.

Thinking about mine, and all aspects considered, it's a mix, although he has quite a lot from me.

My ds is 9 and the only thing of his that is visibly 'me' are his finger and toe nails. Otherwise he is the spit of his dad.

Non physically, he does have more of my features

Both my DC look like my (gorgeous) DH. My DS is exactly like his Dad in personality but my DD is exactly like me in personality.

It's interesting though both children have my ears and his feet!

They both also have natural talents that neither my DH and I have, clearly the genes combined happily there!

Everyone always says that, its to reassure him that you're not been putting it about Grin

I find it fascinating to see how friends' children turn out! It seems to me that most first borns look like their dad and seconds like their mum - purely anecdotal based on my friends and family though!!

As a baby, DD looked hugely like DP, though with hindsight it might just have been the shared jet black hair which did it.

At nearly 4 she's turned into a mini-me now. Apart from DP's mouth and chin, but that's not something you'll notice unless you're prone to staring at both of them in great detail.

The mini-me thing is occasionally annoying, tbh. Sometimes we end up dressed the same - I'll put her in skinny jeans and a stripey top because I like how it looks, then realise I too am wearing skinny jeans and a stripey top. But worse is that she has inherited my face shape and my hair type, so we both suit the same haircut. I am currently growing mine out into an unflattering mess in an effort not to have exactly the same haircut as my small child...

I've read that babies do look more like dads per actual scientific assessment; it's an evolutionary thing to assure the sires of their parentage and encourage them to stick around & care for the child.

My DS (10 mo) looks exactly like DH. I have been told that his eyelashes look like mine! Grin. I thought when they were scraping the barrel like that I can definitely conclude that DS is a mini DH.

leaLeander, yes, I've read the same. Fascinating.

I've also read that LeaLeander.

Mine were both as babies the spit of their dad as a baby.

Now though our son is obviously like both of us & I would say daughter favours me slightly.

Although it's hard to see as she is tall & blond & I am short with dark hair!

PFB is spit image of his dad. DD is mini me, she's nearly 7 now so has all my mannerisms too. Spookily so sometimes.

LeaLeander has got it.
It is very common for young babies to look like their fathers. All to do with evolution and paternal bonding.

As they grow, they develop their own personalities and quirks. Ds is quite a mixture of both DH and I. But he is strangely quite like DH's maternal grandpa, who he never met.

DD is much more like me, in looks and personality. I suspect we may clash quite a bit during the teenage years.

DS is the spit of me (poor bugger) always has been. Photos of me at the same age are identical except for the dodgy pudding bowl-esk bob. MiL is adamant he's like DH but I think she's just fooling herself.

DS (7) looks nothing like me and aside from having his dad's colouring, he looks nothing like him either. He is the spitting image of DP's sister (who looks nothing like DP). Which is just rude. People mistake her for his mum all the time.

My MIL takes great delight in telling anyone and everyone that my DS looks like his dad, her son. If he does anything wonderful like walking early, that's because his dad did, but his sensitive skin is obviously down to me.

DS (3 months) is pure DH, doesn't look anything like me. He looks a bit like one of my nephews but not much

Both DS1 & 2 looked just like DH until about 3. They've got my blue eyes and personality.

My dd looks like her dad and its more obvious now she's older as they both have long curly hair and the same eye colour.

When my daughter was a baby, people who knew her dad said she looked like him and people who knew me said she looked like me. I think she looked like my mum.
Recently, Daughter's boyfriend saw some pictures of me as a toddler and thought it was her.

Personality wise, she has always reminded me A LOT of my sister. My sister and I are nothing alike, and they've probably spent no more than a month in each other's company in 20 years due to geography, so that's unexpected. She also has quite a few of her dad's mannerisms, probably mine as well but I don't recognize them as easily.

Yip my Ds is spitting image of dh. It used to bug me that ALL the family on both sides commented on it as if it was lucky as I'm some sort of ugly troll type woman!!

I am currently pregnant and looking forward to seeing what this little one is like.

Both my kids look like DP. And has his personality. And his behaviour traits. And do exactly the same things he used to do. They like cars because he did. They sleep the same way he did. Talk in their sleep like he did. Eat like he did. Have illnesses like he did. And if not like him, then just like their uncle/aunt/great grandad etc.

Funny, as I'm sure I remember growing them Hmm bitter, me? Never!
